I followed these instructions and was easily able to change my Mac Pro battery. Since Apple no longer services my 2011 model I had to do it myself. THANK YOU SO MUCH for clear and concise instructions!!!
How is the battery going? I need a new one too
Same!!! 😁👍
Best instructions ever!!!! I never ever touch anything that has to do with technology or screws, etc. And I replaced the battery in less than 10 minutes. Great work with the video! Thank you so much!
Where did you buy the battery?
@@NM-ok7zz yes please i would love to know where you bought the battery
OWC. Same people that put out this fine video!
I also follow the instructions it's working. Thanks for helping to replace the battery. upload more videos like this.
Very helpful video thanks. I was worried I'd 'short circuit' my old 2011 Mac ... but the process worked well. Your re-calibration tips were excellent.
Best one who's helping and talking about replacing battery ☺️, thank you so much
Incredibly simple with the instructions in this video! Thank you!
Great video, easy to understand and clear instructions! Thanks!
Thanks for the instructions, very simple and well done, kudos!
Great video. I never really learned about calibrating the battery power but today I learned something new. Thanks for providing this!
Thankyou so much for the instructions! My boyfriend did it for me and now it’s all good now ! I’m glad I didn’t go into the Apple store and I watched this video first !
Thanks for your demo video, easy to understand and clear instructions! Thanks!
Great tutorial! Battery change was a piece of cake!
Thanks for the help,.. all working fine .. now the hard drive... !
Thank you so much for this very helpful video!
I guess you should also perform a SMC reset when you replace the battery
Awesome tutorial! Really easy to understand,Thanks!
We are happy to hear. Thank you for your feedback Aniuska :)
Brilliant thanks ever so much.
thank you! good tutorial I replaced it!
It worked! I have a 2009 Mac Pro still works great. I saved so much money.
Do u backup your data in your macbook before you replace the battery?
@@filipusdave2901 no I didn’t. And once I changed the battery 🔋 it turned on and everything was just like was before. Al my Dara, pictures and everything. It is very quick.
@@danielazambrano8791 owhh okay thanks for the info👍🏻
Hi Daniela! I'm glad to hear that OWC helped you save money!
THANK YOU!
thanks alot!
Thank you!
Thank you so much
Hi, thanks for great vid. what about the cycle? Must i have to reset them or does it the MacBook itself?
Very good video. No nonsense brief instruction and very well demonstrated including most pitfalls that may happen.
My only query is that there was a tab on the original battery with a ! in a triangle which I think is a sign of pitfall. The demostrator did point it out but it wasn't there on the replacement. Any problem with that?
thank you
YES!! I DID IT!!
Thanks for the easy to follow along video. I am now on the last step and excited to use my laptop normally again :)
** I had a really bad isssue with the track pad bulging out/not working and now it's fixed.**
Glad to hear it worked well for you!
How did you fix the trackpad not clicking? Mine also isn't clicking after replacing the battery.
@@intensecutn Once I replaced the battery the trackpad started working and was clicking again.
@@ReconstructedMari Ohh right. I've had the opposite. Mine was working fine until I put the new battery in. Now it won't click.
@@intensecutn Aw man..did you check that all the screws were in tightly? maybe you put a wrong size screw in the wrong hole? lol (sorry, I am probably not helping at all.)
When I did this I didn’t change the power saver options before draining the battery. Will that harm what my battery is now capable of?
Thank you very much! Noticed the battery was swollen of my MBP all of a sudden! Very weird!
We are sorry to hear that your battery was swollen all of a sudden in your MacBook Pro. We are glad that we are able to provide the install video for you to fix you machine!
Thanks in 2022 🔥😸💕
Hello thank you I also exchanged my battery without problem in two of Apple Mac Pro late 2011 but have problem now with the battery light indicator. It is no longer working in both the computers. Is there some step how to get this light working again? I am using quite often. Thank you very much
Thank you so much, need to change the battery in 2023 haha
You're welcome…anything we can do to help.
I'm going to do this soon. Should I discharge the battery completely or stop it at 1-2%? Does this make any difference?
After replacing the battery my mac started right up. Iplugged it in to get full charge plus a few hours and now it wont start. It tries but shuts down before finishing. I tried to open in safe mode and that wont work either. Any ides?
What kind of screw drivers do u need again?
The previous battery replacement person left the plastic wrapping on the battery. Could that have had negative effects to the batteries life??
Thanks.
is there a difference between 13 and the 15 in model for the batter?
What's considered normal usage? Web browsing? No Photoshop or music programs correct?

i just changed my battery and tried charing it normally, it takes around 2-3 hours to charge from 0%-100%
Thanks for the usefull guide!
May i ask What size is the triangle screwdriver? I need to buy one.. is it the same as the iphone 7 (0,6mm) ?thanks
Yea, theres not much info on this on this vid - it looks like what you need is a Y0 tripoint, which is 2mm
what about the 74Wh battery? Does it also fit the macbook pro 13" 2011? Or is 74Wh too much?
Thanks for the very clear instructions. Do you happen to know whether the battery management calibration works similarly on Ubuntu or should I reinstall some macOS for the calibration?
We can confirm that running out battery management calibration instructions would work with both Mac OSX and Linux Ubuntu!
How many cycles will this battery go through?
Anyone have a batter suggestion?
Thanks for the video. when I disconnect battery my computer will boot up. does this mean I have a bad battery?
Uhm
Great video very simple to follow
I'm after some help - I followed this tutorial completely, and it went fine UNTIL the battery calibration. After letting my macbook pro 2011 new battery drain completely, the computer now no longer recognises any battery in the machine. I have tried a bunch of trouble shooting (SMC, plugging in old battery etc). Any suggestions? My charger also has a dim green light now.
power down take out battery then unplug charger. hold down power for 5 sec. then plug power cord back in. wait for green light then connect battery. this might help. good luck.
Easy and clear intructions to follow. But now my MacBook pro shuts itself down without warning around 15% charge remaining. Any thoughts?
The first thing I would recommend doing would be resetting the System Management Controller. Detailed instructions on performing a SMC reset can be found on Apple's website here: support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
After resetting the SMC, I would also want to perform a NVRAM or PRAM reset. This can be done with the following instructions:
PRAM Reset:
1) Start the machine while holding down the Option-Apple-P-R keys
2) Wait until you hear the 3rd startup chime, then let go of the keys and let the machine boot up.
Lastly, we would want to go through a proper conditioning cycle, to help the battery reach its maximum lifespan. This process will help calibrate the battery and extend the full charge life. You can find this process with detailed instructions on our Battery Conditioning Guide: eshop.macsales.com/Tech/manuals/newertech/batteries/batteryconditioning_r1w.pdf
Thanks I got a new battery a few months ago and it stopped working. Disconnected it and connected it again and it started working again!
do you backup your data before you replace the battery?
Nope
how do I determine which model I have and what battery is appropriate? Thanks!
Same question..pls help us to answer.
Just got this battery and completed the calibration process. How many hours should I be getting from a full charge, post calibration? With a full charge I get about 2:45-3 hours, is that normal?
Also depend what battery you purchased
Hi, nice video. My new battery was working until I let the battery power down on its own, then it won't turn on anymore. The green light is on, but it's smaller and not shiny as it was. Any solutions? :(
Try doing PRAM and SMC resets, followed by doing a Battery Conditioning afterwards, as sometimes these steps have been able and known to help.
Question: Would it matter than after my Battery Replacement and Calibration i replaced the HDD and OS?
Or is the Battery Calibration stored in a BIOS?
I’d also like to know the answer for this.
What will happened If we don’t do calibration to the new battery installed?
the battery life span will suck.
Nicee!! What's the exact screwdrivers needed for this?
Will this video work for batteries bought from somewhere else?
Nikishah Maknojia yes :)
My MacBook Pro mid 2012 just died when having the service recommended. If I buy a new battery, will the MacBook work fine??
Most likely. I just started seeing a girl who had a macbook pro that she thought was completely dead. I first tested it with my charger, and it turned on and worked fine but didn't charge the battery. So that told me 2 things. Her charger was fucked, and her battery was fucked. I just replaced her battery, and now it charges with my charger. Now she just needs a new charger.
Does yours turn on at all? Have you tried charging it with another charger?
Should I get a static guard and how difficult is this I’ve hear you can fry your logic board
The level of difficulty is straightforward for the installation process. It is recommend to work on a soft, static free area.
I switched out the old battery with a new one and it’s not charging. I tried resetting the system controller. Do I need to reset the memory
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you are having issues with your battery no charging.
The first thing I would recommend doing would be resetting the System Management Controller. Resetting the System Management Controller (or SMC) in a Mac can be a useful way to troubleshoot various kinds of problems that arise, typically related to power issues or issues that coincide with new hardware being installed in the computer.
If these steps fail to work in getting your battery performing up to specs, please let us know and we can look into this issue further for you.
Thanks!
Why was this updated? What were the issues with the last video?
He needs the views
A very detailed instructions and it's so thoughtful of you to include the calibration guide! :) Thank you! I can't wait to follow your instructions and replace my battery
After installing the new battery, my computer won't turn on. I've plugged it in, and still nothing. Will it take a while to get charged before I can do anything, or is there a problem? Thanks.
Your power coray be junk.. I'm learning this myself
I bought a new Batery and it says i should only discharge it to 2% and that a full discharge could harm the batery.
ARyee replacement A1322 batery. I bought it from Amazon. I already replaced my old one and the batery seems to be doing fine. (I did just discharge to 2%)
After replacing a new battery, it still doesn't turn on. Can I charge it or not? What could be the possible reason?
We are sorry to hear this! There could be a few reasons the machine is still not powering on. Please email support@owc.com and we will be happy to troubleshoot this with you.
Hi. How should i know if my macbook pro 13 inch early 2011 model battery is replaceable? Thank you! :)
Nice video by the way! :)
I’m pretty sure all MacBook models are capable of having a battery replaced (although I’m not sure about newer ones). It’s just a matter of finding the right battery. :) hope this helped
Well this video is made for early/late 2011 macbook pro's. So the answer is in this video.
For those in the UK checkout www.megamac.com/collections/batteries-for-macbook-pro
Super detailed awesome video. But I say jokingly, calibrating the battery feels like I’m in church as a kid. Do you know the part where you have to stand up sit down stand up sit down stand up sit down sit down, and you really have no fucking clue why... just because someone told you too. LOL. Anyways thank you for the help.
I was able to successfully replace my battery and my Macbook was working successfully last night! As instructed I let the system power down on its own in order to calibrate the power management system, and now the battery will not accept a charge from my charging cable. The cable works on my wife's Mackbook just fine, as I'm able to use it as a direct comparison. Why wont my Macbook accept the charge?
I have the same problem. Do you have a solution Gary?
LMAO the first step is hilarious
I need to install an SSD to a MBP in addition to a new battery. Can I do the power management stuff you demonstrate in part III after the system is set up? I really don't want to have to open up the case twice.
I followed the instructions and the charger still won’t give me the amber color indicating it’s charging. Any thoughts?
Thank you for reaching out to us about this. We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with your adapter. If you have not already please try a different outlet and make sure the connection is secure from the magsafe to the machine. Please reach out to our customer service team if you continue to experience these issues.
What did you end up doing. I am having the same problem. I replaced the battery no problem. My MacBook Pro came up no issues with 60% on the new battery. I plugged in my charger and charged my Max to 100% and then let it run down until there was no power in the battery. Then I waited 5 more hours and plugged in the MagSafe charger. Nothing, no amber light to indicate the new battery is charging. It looks like I will have to reinstall the old battery and return the new battery for a replacement battery. Thanks for your insight.
@@curtisfish7984 I bought a new laptop. It’s 10 years old and it was time. It wouldn’t turn on at all.
@@CarterNL414 Did you try to reinstall the old battery? Thanks for the super quick response!!!!
@@CarterNL414 Just to confirm it was not the charger and confirm it was the new battery?
Do i have to backup my data first before i replace the battery? someone tell me pls
We do strongly recommend you always have a current backup when you do any type of upgrade or modification to your machines, but it is not needed to be done just for a battery replacement.
@@poweredbyowc okay thanks OWC!
@Filipus Dave always happy to help!
I replaced battery and now my charger does turn green but Mac won’t turn on. Any help?
We would recommend to double check all connections inside, and make sure everything is seated correctly. Then, perform an SMC and PRAM reset:
Detailed instructions on performing a SMC reset can be found on Apple's website here: support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
After resetting the SMC, I would also want to perform a NVRAM or PRAM reset. This can be done with the following instructions:
PRAM Reset:
1) Start the machine while holding down the Option-Command-P-R keys
2) Wait until you hear the 3rd startup chime, then let go of the keys and let the machine boot up.
OWC thank you for the info. Unfortunately the machine doesn’t power on. No reaction from the computer when I hit the power button.
If the connections are all firmly seated but it is still not being seen, I would recommend to contact our Technical Support to have a replacement set up:

Before I take the old battery out, do i need to have the computer shut down?
That is a bIg fat fucking YES.
If you have a MacBook Pro model like this (2011) then replace the hard drive with a Solid State Drive (SSD). It'll transform it. Use Carbon Copy Clone to copy the old drive to the new SSD. You have a new MacBook Pro once you do this. Upgrade the memory to it's maximum 8Gb as well this will allow you to load bigger spreadsheets and graphic files.
Just discovered you can upgrade the memory to 16Gb. Just done that and it flies even better!
Now this is a guy that knows what's up. Putting an SSD in this machine makes it fly.
@@rickkyp4065 8Gb is the maximum 2011 macbook pro's can take...
@@intensecutn Officially yes but in reality you can do 16Gb from OWC. eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_1333MHz_SDRAM or in the UK from: www.megamac.com/collections/memory-ram-for-macbook-pro
The remaining seven screws are indeed all the same size but… Some of them have shoulders while the others do not. Be observant!
Where can I buy a 2011 battery since Apple no longer manufactures them? 😭😭
Amazon
wow look at that its not even glued in
BRIAN A.PALENSCIA* COMPUTER_OWNER
Why do none of these guides tell the size of the screws? So uninformative.
Because they are already in your Mac. You should not need to buy new screws.
Awesome tutorial. Idiot proof.
What size screwdriver? Need to know so I can order before my battery gets here. Btw your instructions are very clear and straightforward! Thank tou
If you have already purchase the battery, no worries about the screwdrivers because with all our batteries we provide you with the 2 screwdrivers you will need.
Thank you !
