  • It's February , which means on our Homestead in southern Missouri I am gearing up for gardening and farmers market season. It also means I am beginning to panic! LOL Spring will be here before you know it and I am in no way, shape or form even close to being ready. I have got to find ways to get things done in my after work hours and on weekends.
In this twelve month series you'll get a front row seat to our raw and real homestead life. You'll see just what it takes to keep our farm running while working our full time jobs.
Welcome to One Year on Our Farm!

After 20 years of successful careers in the Los Angeles area we moved to rural Missouri and are taking steps to become more self-sustaining on our homestead. I break down all the farmy things into small manageable steps so you can start homesteading wherever you are.
We homestead on 2.5 acres in the Missouri Ozarks, and our garden hardiness zone is 6B.
Our weekly videos break down farming and gardening into small manageable steps so you can make the transition towards self sufficiency and food sustainability without being overwhelmed!
I garden in the Missouri Ozarks and am in hardiness zone 6B.

I can't describe how anxious I am to retire and move to Arkansas or Missouri or Tennessee so I can homestead like you guys. Until then your videos are such a source of inspiration! Thank you!

It is so easy for the winter to get away from us and suddenly spring is here and all the things we planned to get done are not done so now we have the winter clean up AND the spring tasks to get done. Ugh!

Delightful video. I love laughing. Finding chicken eggs in the nesting material right above the nesting boxes is funny. You have some chickens trying to tell you they are going to do things their own way. They too, need a little independence. I love how innovative they are. Glad all is well at the Plan Bee.

I also love laughing! I find humor in something every day.
I also have one diva chicken that roosts on the coop door and waits for me to put her to bed every night. I call her Marilyn.

It's amazing all the tasks on the homestead! I definitely start freaking out mid winter of all the things I didn't get done or prepared yet, that's my current mode I'm in. Oofta!!! Looks like you are organized Lorella! Me....not so much!!

Having a heatwave for me today. It's almost 40 F with no wind and clear blue skies. I went out and measured my garden because I think I want to expand it a bit this year. Looking forward to our annual visit in May to the nearby Mennonite community where I get my plant starts. I am going to try to start a few plants of my own because I saved seeds for the first time last fall. I'm excited to see if I can get them to take off and grow. I don't have a really good place in my house to start them so I want to try my south facing windows. It's worth a try. Can't wait to see what you're doing next because I know what you're doing is what I'll be able to do a short time after.

South facing windows should work! I have zero windows on my south wall. That was really poor planning on our part. LOL

You are BUSY! Its amazing how much you can accomplish, just the animal care alone is a lot. Just curious what zone are you in? Great video! Thanks for sharing.

I just found your videos. I think I bought plants from you at the farmers market in Ava. Do you also sell rabbits, California or New Zealand? The lady that I bought plants from was either selling them and I got her card. I'll have to look it up and see if it was you but I'm thinking it was??? That's so cool your in Ava too, I live in Seymour. I follow Living Traditions Homestead as well but glad to find you now.

I don’t think that was me because I didn’t sell rabbits last year, as I don’t have business cards yet. But I would love to meet you at the market this year! I sell the comfrey salve and cayenne salve.

Sorry I was using my mobile app this morning and couldn't add that. I've got it on the end screen and description now! Thanks for the reminder. :)
And to clarify, I used the tools from that video to make my own calendar which will only work for zone 6b with a last frost date of April 15. If you are in my zone I'd be happy to email it to you, though if you give me your email address, but it should be pretty easy to do with the tools I suggest in this video.
