This first episode is absolutely genius. It plays the 2000s superhero-teen-coming-of-age-drama cliche straight but then at the end makes it clear this is *not* the story you thought it was going to be.
Overall, I'd say that Invincible is a solid A tier show, but this first episode is S+. It is the perfect build up to the twist payoff, and it still succeeds at introducing most of the major characters and world building on top of that. It's probably the best first episode of any show I've watched.

Invincible is a mix between gritty 90's and lighthearted 2000's (possibly to make up as escapism for 9/11?). 2000's Spider-man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Iron Man, but also has vibes like 90's Spawn, Blade, Carnage's debut, Onslaught's debut
The Panic during their realization of whats going down is always the fun bit, "is this for real?"

Yes I know Invincible is not Marvel, Invincible is part of Image Comics I should have put a full stop at the at the end of Superman rip-offs.

Just in time for Season 2. This series needs to be more popular. The comic had so many epic moments!

This show already hooked me with the amazing father son story between Nolan and Mark, but when the last 5 minutes happened I was shocked beyond belief!!!
Also this episode has the absolute best description of how superhuman flight works. And I absolutely love the fact that Mark Hamill aka The Joker is the voice of the man who makes superhero suits.😂
Fun fact: in the comic this show is based off of by the same name, Omni-man kills the guardians of the globe within seconds! (And I think on one page,too.) Shows just how powerful his comic book counterpart is.

16:23 voice actor for the clothier is Mark Hamill. How amazing is that. Man pops up in the best places giving his amazing voice to such amazing work. Perfect blend.
The best suggestion I can give you about this serie is that it is just as good if not better on the second watch. You'll notice so many things that you didn't the first time around.
I love that the costume designer is voiced by Mark Hamill (aka Joker).
The fact she never picked up that darkwing is based off batman is hilarious

Invincible started out as a satire of common superhero tropes, when the comic came out in the early 2000s, then it evolved and started doing it's own thing.
Omni Man is obviously based on Superman (same powers besides vision, alien from another world), Darkwing is Batman, War Woman is Wonder Woman, Red Rush is supposed to be the Flash, and so forth. The Guardians of the Globe are supposed to be the Justice League.
It abandons the "superhero parody" quite quickly though, as you probably see. Invincible is absolutely one of the best comic-books of the last 20 years. Also All Might is based on Superman as well, all of these main superhero characters with immense strength, speed, endurance, durability, vision are Superman-clones.
I am SO excited about this series reaction. This is one of my favorite series premieres ever, and it just gets better.

In the comic that twist is handled much slower. The guardians get wiped out early as well, but we don't know it was Omni until later.
My first time watching I didn’t realize there was an after credits scene and I had something to do so I stopped at the credits and was very confused when episode 2 started 😂It was like a murder mystery even though it was pretty obvious it was omniman
It's...complicated.
The show flips a lot of tropes. Starting with the guard at the beginning that you *know* because he's discussing going on vacation he's going to die... doesn't. Then it intorduces you to the world's premiere super team...and promptly kills them all in the after credits.
And...get use to deaths.
Welcome to the terrifying world of super-powered individuals.
Where normal humans are mere mortals against gods.
But not all gods are heroes, many are villains.
Here's hoping Mark can truly become...

Hi Animelon! Thanks for reacting. I personally really dig the art style since it emulates on of my nostalgic shows, Justice a league and Justice League Unlimited. That’s a classic you might enjoy reacting to. Not sure how much traction it would get.

Not creating 1v1 situations is pretty hard when Omni Man is the fastest, beside Red Rush of course but that's why he died first, he should really have stuck to support, the justice league lookalike would probably have won if Red Rush stayed on pure support, saving heroes at the last moment.
I figured the fake justice league would die because they're way too much derivative of the real Justice league so it was pretty obvious they mostly were canon fodder for a twist. That being said, I still appreciated the imagery of the pseudo-Superman slaughtering the Justice league and not just because he had a bad day or is being controlled.

he's supremely powerful. in the comics he defeats the other superheros in seconds not even breaking a sweat. Here they have to liven up the tv show some so they had a drawn out battle. In reality he didn't even blink when he wiped them out.
I love how this whole thing is setup...to then get flipped over entirely at the end ;-;

Invincible is basically a dark and twisted version of the DC Universe and it finally gave us a realistic fight between Batman and Superman RIP Darkwing and the Guardians of the Globe
funny thing, if you look back across the entirety of this episode. There was hardly any blood and definitely no gore the whole time until that end massacre. Then the rest of the show gives plenty, showing 'hey you thought this was light hearted? gotcha!'

Nobody could have helped Red Rush, because in real time Omniman basically just clapped his hands, like trying to clap a fly out of the air, but RR experienced in as if it were a slow crushing pressure.

If red rush had kept fighting defensively I feel like they could have beaten Omni man.
I appreciate so much that Kirkman had the Guardians of the Globe actually give Omniman a fight and damage him considerably, making them seem much more effective then their comic counterparts, cause in the comic they don't even touch him.

MAJOR SPOILERS:
The fact that they do so much damage to him and almost win even after being ambushed amps up their power level and reinforces that they were a genuine threat to the Viltrumites. If Omni-Man didn't kill them here, they would have absolutely made conquering Earth much harder. You just don't get that in the comic. They get taken out so easy, it leaves you wondering why he even went out of his way to kill them. This was a great change that very much improves the story.
