In Home Alone 2, Kevin McCallister's one-night stay in the Grand Plaza suite at the Plaza Hotel in New York City cost $1,100. If you were to stay in a similar room during the holidays in 2023, it would cost around $3,480. Kevin also spent $967.43 on room service at the Plaza Hotel, which would be about $2,062.92 in 2023
I believe what Kevin spent would be voided since the hotel allowed a kid to check-in using his dad's credit card without permission. I have worked as a website customer services rep and these charges are often rejected without acquiring parents' permission.

This is the best reaction to Home Alone 2 I've seen. It is shot so well, and the music and cinematography is waaaaaaaay under-recognized. It has soooo much heart. And is soooooo funny. Loved this, guys! Thank you!!!
After watching the first 2 home alone movies, you soon figure out that the McAllister family is rich as hell. Kevin's father bought plane tickets and a hotel to Paris and back, then to Flordia and NYC, then home, for the entire family. His father's brother owns and is renovating an entire Brownstone in NYC. His uncle Frank is rich too, he's just cheap. He lived in a suite for a week at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
I always took it, there are 3 McAllister brothers: one who owns the NY brownstone and thanks to a bonus at work was able to fly his 2 brothers and their families to Paris. Kevin's dad, paid for the Florida trip. And you're absolutely right: Frank is just a cheapskate! 😂 All of the McAllister's are very well off.
@@lapislazuli5035 Someone on another reaction said that Peter McCallister was a stock/bond trader and "mom" was a fashion designer. That explains their wealth pretty well.
I see a few people mentioning that the director of both Home Alone 1 and Home Alone 2 is Chris Columbus, the director of both Harry Potter 1 and Harry Potter 2. What I don't see is anyone also mentioning the fact that the music for both Home Alones was made by John Williams, who also did the music for Harry Potter. When those two work together, they make magic. They're just so good at working with children and conveying magical storytelling.
Thanks! I thought the same thing when they mentioned Harry Potter. Chris Columbus and John Williams make almost as much magic together as Steven Spielberg and John Williams do.
10:21 for the longest time I thought this was the original version of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and that Mariah Carey covered it on her Christmas album after this. It was literally a month ago that I realized they're actually two different songs entirely after I looked them up. This one is called "All Alone On Christmas". They have a very similar chord progression and vibe and at the end of the verse both songs sing "All I want for Christmas is you". Ever since I was a kid every time I'd hear the Mariah song on the radio and in malls I'd get mad that her version never had the sax solo that riffed the Jingle Bells melody at the end. I do like it much better than "All I Want For Christmas".
I was in New York many years ago, and we took an 8 person stretch limo from the airport to the hotel because it was cheaper than a cab. $50 /hr to book it. That was like 20 years so, so its obviously not the same today, but it was a blast.
Marv getting zapped, Steve Martin and John Candy going between semi's in Trains Planes and Automobiles (also a John Hughes movie!) Both get me into fits of giggling!
Did not expect an old Vine audio to be used as the intro. One of my faves 😂 The late '90s were a time where Rob Schneider just seemed to appear in a bunch of movies that were not Happy Madison productions lol.
Yes that location was used in John wick 1 and 2. It is where perkins was killed as well as where john was told he was excomunicato and started running. It is a well used location you will find in many shows and movies.
Know what a good follow-up to this is? The Good Son. It's about a kid (Elijah Wood) whose mother dies, and goes to live with his cousin (Macaulay Culkin) and Aunt for the winter. He hasn't seen his cousin for years, so it takes them time to form a connection. Honestly, it's very heart-warming and a lovely film.
I think Kevin has better character development between Home Alone 1 and 2 than Harry Potter over the course of 8 movies. I mean, Harry goes through h**l 8 times and he never gets darker, wiser or cleverer?? Instead, it seems like Harry gets more naive and apathetic. Plus, Harry Potter is just a child and NO WIZARD MASTER can defeat him?. That doesnt make sense. In the course of two movies, we see Kevin get smarter and more mature. We see him grow an obsession with Christmas trees... after cutting down his own Christmas tree and seeing the face of his enemy while decorating it. Basically, the Christmas tree becomes Kevins best friend through his trauma. The writing of Kevins character is brilliant
20:50 When I fist saw Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the theaters, I immediately thought of John Williams' score for the Home Alone movies. He definitely used a lot of the same chords.
Which in turn borrows heavily from the Nutcracker, notably the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies during the overnight segments where plot elements fall into place, and the airport rush sequence explicitly quotes the Trepak section of the Russian Dances.

The toy store is meant to be FAO Schwarz, which was across the street from the Plaza hotel on 5th Ave (so Kevin could’ve just walked there). However, the actual facade used in the film was a building in Chicago. The real FAO Schwarz did get used as a location for Big. FAO filed for bankruptcy twice in 2003 before temporarily shuttering the Fifth Avenue location in January 2004. In May 2009, Toys "R" Us Inc. acquired FAO Schwarz, but in 2015, it permanently closed the Fifth Avenue location.
thats where FAO USED to be located ( a few short blocks east of PLAZA) but the producers didnt get permission to use their name, so they used a diff name and as you say a few scnes were filmed elsewhere- like that POOL with Kevin jumpin in as PLAZA has no pool for guests. They did use parts of cent park and the BUSTED UPplace wit all he fun tricks done by Kevin were also filmed elewhere.
I still argue that Kevin got *himself* lost this time. Twice, he's within earshot of hearing the gate number (once when Peter asks the attendant, and once when Buzz asks Peter), and he's so obsessed with the batteries for his Talkboy that he stops in the middle of O'Hare! Some of Kevin getting lost is on Kevin himself.
Kevin is 9, while yes he is obsessed with the batteries to the point he misses the gate number and stops in the middle of a busy airport, at 9 his parents should have been responsible enough to watch him. Kids younger than 10 get lost frequently because they're easily distracted and can get confused easily, it's always on their guardians to make sure they don't wander off. I'm always surprised to see nobody holding hands with him while they run, doing something as simple as that keeps the kid with the family.
This movie was my childhood. It’s the peak of my Christmas films. I love it so much. The comedy but the warmth and the love you feel from this movie is amazing.
Merry Christmas to my favorote YT channel. George & Simone, i hope your Christmas is joyous and safe. Thank you for sharing your wit and charm with all of us. 🎄 Happy New Year as well.
Ok, I lost the time stamp, but holy crap! You picked out Ally Sheedy (of Breakfast Club fame), and I, very familiar with her work, including her amazing role as Yang on Psych, took a close look at her behind the counter at the New York airport, and said, “Nah, that doesn’t look like her. Similar, kinda, I can see why they thought that, but that’s definitely not her teeth/mouth.” Big round of applause.
Florida is not like that at Christmas time. It rains for an hour then clears up as the frontal systems move through its low of 40 today high of 65. Merry Christmas!
There are SO MANY memorable parts of this movie. "Harry, I've reached the top!" , "Wow, what a hole", the bricks to the forehead, and the skeleton scene are amazing. The first movie was great and I flip-flop all the time with which one I prefer, but I think I enjoy this one a bit more most of the time because it feels a little more believable. The bandits have a reason for going after Kevin this time and all I can think about with the first 1 is how absolutely horrible that local police department was and how they'd probably wind up with a lawsuit over how they handled the situation -- that's probably where the McCallisters got all of their money in the first place.
I just have to say how much I love Home Alone 2: Lost in New York! It's not just a repeat of the first movie; it's even better imo, with Kevin navigating the chaos of New York City while trying to avoid the “sticky bandits”. Tim Curry as the concierge is hilarious, and I love how Kevin grows by helping a children's charity instead of just defending his house. The traps he sets are even more inventive and funny
I just wanna point out Kevin in the first movie said to the woman in the supermarket he was 8 years old but in this movie he says to Mr Duncan he is 10 but he says before he gets on the plane "this happened to me last year and almost wrecked my Christmas" did we miss him being left in another movie?
Macaulay Culkin was 10 when he played an 8 year old in the first movie, and 12 when he played Kevin in the second movie. I imagine his character's age was retconned because it would make him more believable. 12 year old Culkin would not be believable as a 9 year old, but could possibly pass for a 10 year old. And I guess they banked on people not remembering he was supposed to be only 8 in the first movie.
@@Twiska He would have been 11 for the filming. They got the next one in the can as quickly as they could, and held it for a Christmas release. Mac turned 12 in August of that year.
While most are overplaying songs like "All I Want For Christmas Is You", "Do They Know It's Christmas", "Wonderful Christmastime", etc... during the holidays, I prefer to play Christmas film scores. For the first two movies of this franchise, John Williams composed songs such as "Somewhere in My Memory", "Star of Bethlehem" (preferably the sequel version), "Christmas Star", & "Merry Christmas Merry Christmas" (plus Alan Menken contributed "My Christmas Tree", the song that Kevin's school choir sings). Alan Silvestri's score for The Polar Express is also fantastic w/ original songs such as "Believe", "When Christmas Comes to Town", & "Spirit of the Season". Then there's James Horner's "Where Are You, Christmas" from the live action Grinch movie, while "It's Christmas (All Over the World)" sung by Sheena Easton from Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) is very underrated.
I love Brenda Fricker as the bird lady. She played Mike Myers mother in "So I Married An Axe Murderer" as well, and she seems like such a kind soul. I also loved your reaction and the puddled eyes from Simone. I could see true emotion in her expressions and it touched my heart too. Thanks for sharing your humor and appreciation with us, it makes it fun to rewatch. Happy Holidays to both of you!
Glad you picked up on the Harry Potter "feel" of the music. John Williams definitely injected the same whimsy into those films as he did with the Home Alone films.
Flying in the 70's & 80's was different. Literally bought books of 10 tickets & if I wanted to go somewhere walked up to a gate tore out & gave them a ticket & got on the plane. Main counter & boarding pass was only needed if I had luggage. & Learned to travel carry-on only. Was in & out of major airports in 15 minutes. & As a child in the 60's flew state to state w/out parent or family member onboard & at a much younger age than Kevin is in these movies. The flight attendants babysat me on the flights. Which was normal for airlines at the time.
Kevin is Bugs Bunny and the Wet Bandits are Daffy Duck and Wile E. Coyote. The ridiculousness of this movie is pure greatness. "The sound of a tool chest falling down the schtairs." Daniel Stern's screams, physical acting and line delivery in these movies is so great.

In Home Alone 2, Kevin McCallister's one-night stay in the Grand Plaza suite at the Plaza Hotel in New York City cost $1,100. If you were to stay in a similar room during the holidays in 2023, it would cost around $3,480.
Kevin also spent $967.43 on room service at the Plaza Hotel, which would be about $2,062.92 in 2023
Any stats for the suite the family stayed in at the end?
@@Hanszegler35346 I'll bet the Hotel Comped ALL that or get sued out the Ass!
In 1992, I stayed at the Plaza for the weekend on a Home Alone 2 package. It was very nice, back then I think the room was around $500 a night.
I believe what Kevin spent would be voided since the hotel allowed a kid to check-in using his dad's credit card without permission. I have worked as a website customer services rep and these charges are often rejected without acquiring parents' permission.
“Wow! What a hole!” Is a common phrase used in my family.
lol
9:47 Yes this is the same actor from the Breakfast Club *and* John Hughes wrote both The Breakfast Club and Home Alone 2.
Was in Alan Alda comedy Betsy's Wedding 1990 , with Joe Pesci, Catherine O'Hara, Burt Young, Madeline Kahn and Molly Ringwald (Betsy)
Alley Sheedy was the “basket case.” All she needed was a 2 minute makeover from Molly Ringwald- who shows up at the end of Not Another Teen Movie, ALSO WORKING AT AN AIRPORT TERMINAL! 😮😮😮
Simone, you are without a doubt one of the kindest, most compassionate, empathetic souls I have ever come across, thank God for people like you, your kindness and cheerfulness are what Christmas is all about 🙂
Nostalgia Critic said it best; "For every one star movie Tim Curry is in, he is the reason for that star."
True, but this is not a one star movie! And even If you don't have nostalgia for this movie, it's still not a one star movie, it's not even that horrible!
This is the best reaction to Home Alone 2 I've seen. It is shot so well, and the music and cinematography is waaaaaaaay under-recognized. It has soooo much heart. And is soooooo funny. Loved this, guys! Thank you!!!
$967 Mr. McAlister can easily afford that, seeing how big the house is, and taking trips to France.
It's not about the number. It's about how the hell did a 10 year old got to spend a thousand dolars in a couple of days.
Just because it's not going to break the bank doesn't mean he shouldn't be pissed off.
@@bad-people6510 Considering how rock stupid the McAlisters are, I won't feel bad. Shit, they outta consider investing in birth control now, imo
All of the McAllister's are very well off.
You ever put the story together, the dude was in the Sopranos so he's all about that life
Yeah, what did Peter McCallister do for a living to afford all that?
@@lapislazuli5035 Someone on another reaction said that Peter McCallister was a stock/bond trader and "mom" was a fashion designer. That explains their wealth pretty well.
@@samwetherhold08 not to mention their house has like 5 bedrooms and a two car garage in the suburbs
I didn't make the connection of the aesthetics of Home Alone 2 being proto-Harry Potter before Simone and George explored it.
Thanks! I thought the same thing when they mentioned Harry Potter. Chris Columbus and John Williams make almost as much magic together as Steven Spielberg and John Williams do.
Simone going full Hank Hill is the best Christmas present ever I tell you what
The touching moment at the end of the film between Pierce Morgan and Kevin gets me every time, truly brings tears to my eyes.
The hotel room scene with the staff and Marv getting zapped never fail to make me almost spit out my drink😅
Marv getting zapped,
Steve Martin and John Candy going between semi's in Trains Planes and Automobiles (also a John Hughes movie!)
Both get me into fits of giggling!
Marv's scream when the birds were attacking them. It was incredible
Did not expect an old Vine audio to be used as the intro. One of my faves 😂
The late '90s were a time where Rob Schneider just seemed to appear in a bunch of movies that were not Happy Madison productions lol.
"Surf Ninjas" is pure CineCringe material.
Very wholesome movie.
@@maisiesummers42 oh yeah!!! it's a really sweet movie 😊
That is a very cruel joke to play on them and y'all are devious as hell.
yeah.... a lovely film
@@josheldridge8546 josh, don't negate the premise. Lol
9:19 That's Macaulay Culkin's little brother. Still acting. You probably know him best as Scott Pilgrim's roommate.
Thank you George and Simone! Merry Christmas and happy holidays! 🎄😆🎉 I enjoy your reactions!
"This has some early Harry Potter feel" Harry Potter 1+2 and Home Alone 1+2 all directed by Chris Columbus :)
The first time I saw the bricks scene as a kid, I almost peed my pants from laughing. Merry Christmas guys!
He knows what he does is good, look at Hedwig's Theme and the similarities with the original Star Wars theme.
@@Jaden_The_Celestial No, she isn't. That was NOT Dame Maggie Smith. (RIP)
But the lady who checks Kevin in is in "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values"
@@kennethcook9406 that was my mistake. She does look like her though.
@@Jaden_The_Celestial "She does look like her though." Ummm, not really. Sorry.
Especially not if you saw "Sister Act" with Whoopi Goldberg (which Maggie Smith played the Mother Superior in) which was released the same year as this.
Really, Dame Maggie Smith didn't age from about 60 until her recent passing at 89.
Daniel Stern did great work in City Slickers, Breaking Away, Rookie of the Year (actor and director), and was even the voice in the classic 1980s show The Wonder Years
That actress's name is Ally Sheedy 9:46
From WarGames! I haven't seen anything else she's been in but I do love WarGames and she was great in that movie!

She also stars in that movie where they eat a triple decker sandwich cut into quarters and secured with a toothpick as the first meal of the day.
Not to mention Oxford Blues / St. Elmo's Fire / Short Circuit / Maid to Order / Fear / Only The Lonely / High Art, to name a handful! 'Just met her and Ringwald in Providence more than a year ago!
The busted up place would be a built set in a studio for the interiors.
Duncan's is based on F.A.O. Schwarz which used to be in Times Square and featured a full sized Ferris wheel inside but is now in Rockefeller Center.
Mr Duncan is Eddie Bracken, who was a famous comedian in the 1940s.
43:19 “It’s too WHOLESOME!!!” 😭😭😭
I still argue that Kevin got *himself* lost this time. Twice, he's within earshot of hearing the gate number (once when Peter asks the attendant, and once when Buzz asks Peter), and he's so obsessed with the batteries for his Talkboy that he stops in the middle of O'Hare! Some of Kevin getting lost is on Kevin himself.
Fully agree
To be fair, he is still just a little kid.
@@ItsLexy omg yes thank you, also HOW did they fly all that way and never once went to check on the kids WHAAATTTT!

This movie was my childhood. It’s the peak of my Christmas films. I love it so much. The comedy but the warmth and the love you feel from this movie is amazing.
Some of the best cartoon violence ever. Daniel Stern is Marv. The man is comedy gold.
Marv’s screams make these movies! Also, I can’t get over the part where he throws bricks at them. Not the cleverest “trap.”
"Here's this turtle dove. Now have fun being homeless."
(Kevin returns with his family to their mansion.)
Merry Christmas to my favorote YT channel. George & Simone, i hope your Christmas is joyous and safe. Thank you for sharing your wit and charm with all of us. 🎄 Happy New Year as well.
The toilet handstand kills me every time. 😂
I WORE this movie out on VHS as a kiddo. I was so jealous of Kevin’s adventures😂 Looking at it as an adult, this is a incredibly well-written sequel!
"The construction company working on this renovation is going to get sued so hard..."😀
Similar, kinda, I can see why they thought that, but that’s definitely not her teeth/mouth.”
Big round of applause.
Florida is not like that at Christmas time. It rains for an hour then clears up as the frontal systems move through its low of 40 today high of 65. Merry Christmas!
Lol, yes it is. It's literally hurricane season. It rained all night here on the other side of the gulf.
20:50 spot on George! This is a Chris Columbus film, he did the first two Harry Potter, and with John Williams music no less! The real dynamic duo
Yea, when he’s lookin at the picture of his family, he is the upside down kid.
Another fun Daniel Stern movie worth watching is Bushwhacked!
Buzz looks like a bigger version of Vern from Stand By Me. I could never take him seriously as a bully 😂
Daniel Stern has The Best Scream in comedies. That "tarantula scream", and "nail in foot" scream and all others.
Another Chris Columbus gem is "Baby's Day Out" which is actually one of my faves.
Chris Columbus didn't do "Baby's Day Out," but it WAS written by John Hughes. Patrick Read Johnson directed it.
Merry Christmas Simone & George, you both take care and have a nice day
I just wanna point out Kevin in the first movie said to the woman in the supermarket he was 8 years old but in this movie he says to Mr Duncan he is 10 but he says before he gets on the plane "this happened to me last year and almost wrecked my Christmas" did we miss him being left in another movie?
Macaulay Culkin was 10 when he played an 8 year old in the first movie, and 12 when he played Kevin in the second movie. I imagine his character's age was retconned because it would make him more believable. 12 year old Culkin would not be believable as a 9 year old, but could possibly pass for a 10 year old. And I guess they banked on people not remembering he was supposed to be only 8 in the first movie.

Hello Simone & George Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Greetings from Hungary. (i liked Gossip Girl too)
While most are overplaying songs like "All I Want For Christmas Is You", "Do They Know It's Christmas", "Wonderful Christmastime", etc... during the holidays, I prefer to play Christmas film scores.
She also won an Oscar for "My Left Foot."
I am subscribed! Why are you yelling at me? Lol 😂❤
Glad you picked up on the Harry Potter "feel" of the music. John Williams definitely injected the same whimsy into those films as he did with the Home Alone films.
I got such a big crush on Simone. She's lovely.
Gotta admit I usually just watch her reaction 😊
She do got nice hair.
Great holiday classic. Actually think it's better than the first! Merry Christmas!
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Most of Daffy's cartoons, he is the Kevin.
You might get to this in trivia, but the toy store is basically FAO Schwarz. It also features in Big at one point.
I’ve seen this movie probably 20 times and I always liked it but this was the best time I’ve ever watched this movie! In a million years, I would never have had on my bingo card for Christmas that I would be tearing up watching Home Alone 2 with George and Simone! But this was FANTASTIC! Love you guys! Merry Christmas
I personally like this movie better than the first.
I love how in the first one all the traps were survivable, but in this one Harry and Marv would definitely die.
Hard to believe, some of the outside scenes, like outside Duncan's Toy Chest, and inside some hotels, were actually filmed in Chicago than in New York.
I mean, they're both huge cities, so not that hard to believe.
Every kid after this movie wanted a Talkboy..and obviously this movie was the perfect promo
