この映像では、ラップとリードまでの理解は難しいかもしれないが、蒸気エンジンの弁装置の動きに関しては、よくわかると思われる。
なお、前進、後進共に、フルギアの状態である。

Great video thanks for sharing. The Combination link is not integrating the 2 movements. It is only supplying the Radius Rod movement. To fix, the upper pivot of the Cintrol Valve needs to be positioned near the upper 5% of the Union link (lowered slightly) so that the 2 input movements can be summed. Currently the lower link is having no effect.

Comments are of course correct in observing that the combination lever here is ridiculous. But the return crank leading the main, which some have queried, is correct, because this model uses a D-valve, which has to have live steam on its outside, keeping its face pressed down. The crank trails the main in most of the locomotives that we have grown familiar with only because they all employ piston valves, which have live steam in between the valve pistons ['inside admission', as opposed to 'outside admission' here]. They don't HAVE to, but usually do because this reduces leakage waste past the valves and through the glands.
Excellent demonstration showing internal movements I’ve always wanted to see how these monsters harness their power and the purpose of all the arms rods linkages valves. As far as the direction Fwd or Rev that’s immaterial the basic movements will appear the same to someone like myself great display!

I noticed that, too. It isn't the usual arrangement where there is to be a subtraction (and partial cancelling) of the main valve action.
The two bars in the centre - yes I can see that - just for decoration. Should be a parallel motion to prevent side thrust on the valve link.
That is great! Just a suggestion, maybe you could blow smoke into the model, that way you could see how the steam works.

Have I got this right?
The high pressure steam would be coming from the red area above the horseshoe shaped valve. As the valve moves to the left, the right hand side tube is opened to the hot steam and it rushes in to move the piston along the cylinder. But simultaneously the left hand side tube is connected to the exhaust pipe (whatever its called) and the coolish steam is forced out the exhaust pipe by the piston.
Then as the valve shifts, the cycle is repeats on the opposite side?

There seems to be something wrong with the set up. The rod from the expansion link isn't supposed to connect directly to the valve is it?

The flying crank should LAG a quarter turn behind the main crank, not lead it. Your engine is thrown in reverse, in other words, the wheel should be spinning counterclockwise for this model to be correct
I noticed that, too.
It looks as if the Johnson bar, the reverser, has been thrown into reverse while the driver's are still in forward motion.

How it's different from steam engine?
Great work building this model, but it seems to me there is something wrong with the way the combination bar is hooked up. It seems to me it would do nothing in this configuration. It needs to have an offset between the radius bar and the valve stem. See this link for more info. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walschaerts_valve_gear
