To each of their own, i think this is way behind in term of styling compared to Korean and European car. Genesis GV80 is way ahead of Lexus and Acura imo. This is like a slightly more beautified Honda. Not on the same league as the other luxury car.
@@luisluu I dont want garbage german cars and that grille on gv80 is a deal breaker. Plus I would never spend that kind of money on a Korean car. Acura has a conservative style with aggressive but not over the top design. And that interior is awesome. And the biggest seller is reliability and resale value. Can't wait to see what the type S will look like.
@@ZeerXX I hope Type S would change my mind. Agreed on the reliability of an Acura. But Korean cars nowadays have about the same reliability. They poked engineers from other brands so I'm not surprised. The GV80 car got so many awards from all over the world that you can't just ignore it. Most recently it's named top SUV in its class by Cars and Driver. I test drove both this and the GV80 and was blown away by the craftsmanship of the GV80. This car was just meh for the money you spend imho.
I think this is the perfect one-car choice. Perfect balance of everything with supermodel looks and great reliability. Just wish I didn't have to wait a few years to afford one.
I appreciate Acura for keeping real buttons in the climate control section, unlike Infiniti and their capacitive panel for climate controls in their upcoming QX60.
Count on Forrest for detailed reviews 👏🏽 ! I’d check out the Type S variant or a loaded GV80 ! There’s nothing luxurious about paying $300 for an oil change at a BMW or MB dealer 🙄!...or the mere mention of reliability issues down the road.

I honestly hope it goes very well for this new MDX, because I really like it might get one.
@@jsfbay1 I'm willing to bet that Acura has done their best to correct the reliability concerns from the last generation, but of course, there are no guarantees. Also, expect the Type-S version to have better performance from the 10-speed auto (on the TLX Type-S, upshifts and downshifts are 40% quicker).
that middle seat removal is a old feature on my 2008 Highlander, thats what every SUV should do. mine can be stored in a storage underneath the DRIVER center arm rest and pull out another cup holder one in exchange.

Congrats to you Forrest on hoping the CarGuru team!! I had to do a double look when I saw the Thumbnail lol! Been following your reviews for a long time, you will be a great addition to their team. Now as far as the MDX... This miles ahead of the previous gen, although it’s sad to see the huge front armrest console go away. I’m sure they had to make room for all of the wiring for the new electrical components in that area. Also I’m not sure why Acura strangely omits certain things from the A-spec trim. I’m seriously trying to think of one competitor that doesn’t offer a 360° camera. Living in Florida I can take or leave the heated steering wheel, but I hope it offers ventilated seats. Otherwise a great vehicle. I don’t think the GLE, Aviator, X5, Q7 or GV80 have anything to worry about here, but this is great option or alternative for those considering a RX350, Grand Cherokee, XC90, Enclave, QX60, or XT6.
I own a 2015 MDX and it’s the best vehicle that I have ever owned. To say that I love it is an understatement. I would, however, jump at this 2021 version. It is flat out sexy.
Wife and I bought a 2022 in March and our first road trip was today 7-12-21. The road noise (tires) and outside wind is very loud very annoying. We both noticed it. I’m gonna think about trading it soon. 2015 Kia Sorento is much quiet
I agree, the V6 is the base motor and it satifies at least 70% of the buyers. Give it 3-5 more years and i'm sure well see a de-tuned version of the 3.0 V6 turbo (found in the Type-S). I have the 3.0 V6 in my Mdx Hybrid and it pulls well so throwing in a small turbo will give it least 300+hp.
@@BrawlFreak786 and 267 lb feet of torque isn't much to brag about in a vehicle that size. It should've got bumped up to 280 or 290. But the type S is gonna be hell on wheels I'm sure!
I just got the 2022 base model it’s great but I completely agree that it’s just missing a couple things like 360 degree view heated steering wheel and heads up display if it had those I would say it’s perfect! My one complaint is also that the charging pad doesn’t always work your phone has to be exactly on the right spot which is alittle hard to get to or else it doesn’t work
If reliability is your main concern when you have to spend close 60 grand. This is the way to go.Previous MDX has transmission problem its the main reason they move up to a 10 speed automatic. One thing though a turbo engine is not as reliable as a normally aspirated one. This is not a sports car. Its an SUV. It's the reason Toyota is debating to put a turbo or not on the upcoming Lexus RX350. Longevity will be the issues. Its a gorgeous SUV. Well done Acura.

I really hope this is the start of a resurgence of great Honda/Acura cars. This engine is great and Acura has really stepped up their game, I am excited for the Type S motors too. I miss the good old days of Honda and Acura cars that were the hottest things in the streets.
I would love to see Lexus do the same. They have been nothing short of disappointing lately with the lazy attempt at a 3-row luxury crossover by just stretching an RX and calling it a day. A $70K SUV and you can’t even get a panoramic sunroof.
@@username87324 Tesla owns a tiny tiny portion of the car market and has no plans to actually dominate it. When EV does become the standard in the next few decades it’s unlikely Tesla will be at the head of it.

LOVE MDX. Have owned 2007 and now the 2017 Advance. Ill be getting another in 2027 lol. First one lasted 225000 miles trouble free. New one doesn't seem much different than current one I drive other than new body style. Beautiful car.
Beautiful, I have an older RL and a very reliable car. This vehicle is nicely done. And due to the competition Acura should already be offering a twin turbo on this engine.

I disagree about the ambient lighting. The TLX ambient lighting only has 1 strip on the doors vs the the 2 strips on the MDX. The TLX also doesn’t have ambient lighting under the glove box for the passenger or anywhere in the rear seats like the MDX does.
I have a choice too make. Lincoln Aviator or MDX 2022 Type S which would you pick? My concern with the aviator is quality. I have a 2017 Pilot with 85k and it has been flawless so I don’t want to walk into car issues with a Ford product. 🤷🏼♂️
Every time I research a mid size SUV I come back to the MDX. Quality & price are the perfect sweet spot. I saw a grey 2022 MDX with the black trim driving behind mine in my mirror and it blew me away. Looks very agressive. The pictures/videos do not do justice.
Good Review. Appreciate your honesty on things and features it is lacking. For something in the $55k - $57k range, heated steating wheel and heads up to display are now expected. Agree on reliability of brand. I think a much more powerful BMW X3 M40i which handles like a taut sport sedan is a WAY better deal for the money. Perhaps not as much space, and no 3rd row, but still a very good sized, capable SUV that sounds AWESOME and blows most things away. Bit of a sleeper, but a LOT of technology, performance, handling and the utility for the money.
Acura.. Just got what consumer looks for.. The dashboard is so clean.. need to how accurate the new redesign of those mouse pads and embedded technology..

So you said you wouldn’t recommend the previous gen. Is that against the current “heavy hitters” you mentioned or against their old counterparts? I’m not sure about your opinions. You don’t like the previous generation MDX but you call the nonfunctional air vent “cool”. How is a fake hole cool?
Very good review! I like the interior of the car. Not sure about that front grill; might look better in another color which is ironic because the previous model looked best in this dark grey color.
I can't drive my 2022 Advance Package unless it's on SNOW mode. All other modes have a floaty and very bouncy ride for me. And I live in Houston where we have no snow lol
This was me too.....until I saw the GV80 in person. Its look is a teeny bit unrefined for me. I can’t quite articulate what I mean. It still looks good, I just don’t think it looks as good as the MDX anymore.
Amazing review!!! IMO - I do not think a person would buy 7 seats CUV/SUV with the expectation to have turbo-ed acceleration in lower end RPM torque area... I know my preference is V6 in the such application of this car.

I know this is comparing apples to oranges, but just looking at storage space and legroom it appears that the Hyundai Santa Fe has virtually the same amount of cargo space and perhaps a touch more legroom. I realize the MDX has a 5 inch longer wheelbase, so I was expecting more room. You've probably looked at the Santa Fe; ignoring quality of the interior and perhaps build quality too, how do they stack up in your opinion? I can afford either one, that's not a problem, but I wouldn't mind saving $15,000 and just getting the Calligraphy version of the Santa Fe if I could live with a four-cylinder turbocharged engine (not a big fan, I would rather own a naturally aspirated six-cylinder any day of the week, so obviously that's a huge factor.) I just looked at a chart of dimensions, and the MDX is 4 inches wider, which would make it so much easier to fit three people in the second row. Another brilliant thing that Acura did on this vehicle was to allow a top trim version to have a second row bench seat! Now I haven't done an extensive study of other luxury brand three row crossovers, but all the mainstream brands with the exception of the Ford Explorer force you into captains chairs to get the top trim goodies. Thanks again.
Great package for the value. Looks great and drives much smaller than my wife’s Rx350. Test driven one today and put a deposit down for a new order. The only down side is the piano black, hate it.

They need to focus on electric. Its the future and Tesla is out here wrecking these car companies. BMW and Mercedes are also losing market share fast.

Just bought the exact model 👍🏼 love it so far. The dealer thinks the front blocked air intakes will be used for the S-Type twin turbo.
Compare to cx 9 mazda what handles better and which one gives you a better sports feel?

About the night lights you get the better one on the advance one too only. So I like the A spec but I would get the advance instead.

base engine is under powered, I am on my second MDX. Reliable, yes. let's see if Type S has good power.

IMO - I do not think a person would buy 7 seats CUV/SUV with the expectation to have turbo-ed acceleration in lower end RPM torque area... I know my preference is V6 in the such application of this car.

Great review, thank you very much! I know this is comparing apples to oranges, but just looking at storage space and legroom it appears that the Hyundai Santa Fe has virtually the same amount of cargo space and perhaps a touch more legroom. I realize the MDX has a 5 inch longer wheelbase, so I was expecting more room. You've probably looked at the Santa Fe; ignoring quality of the interior and perhaps build quality too, how do they stack up in your opinion? I can afford either one, that's not a problem, but I wouldn't mind saving $15,000 and just getting the Calligraphy version of the Santa Fe if I could live with a four-cylinder turbocharged engine (not a big fan, I would rather own a naturally aspirated six-cylinder any day of the week, so obviously that's a huge factor.)
I just looked at a chart of dimensions, and the MDX is 4 inches wider, which would make it so much easier to fit three people in the second row. Another brilliant thing that Acura did on this vehicle was to allow a top trim version to have a second row bench seat! Now I haven't done an extensive study of other luxury brand three row crossovers, but all the mainstream brands with the exception of the Ford Explorer force you into captains chairs to get the top trim goodies. Thanks again.
You can get a heated steering wheel on all trim but it’s only standard on the advanced. It’s a like $500 add on for all the other trims.

Great package for the value. Looks great and drives much smaller than my wife’s Rx350. Test driven one today and put a deposit down for a new order. The only down side is the piano black, hate it.
