Totally agree with you. In my case, I use the S22 Ultra and the Pixel 7 Pro, but the display, speakers, periscope zoom, good feel in hand, software experience (One UI) is all better on Galaxy. But if only with a tight budget, the Pixel 7 Pro shines with good camera performance.
if i didnt already have a 23 ultra i might have gone for the pixel. this is the problem with pixel phones, they are always behind. Been looking for an excuse to switch but they never wow me. Last google phone i had was a nexus 5. updates for 7 years is great but really, how many people keep a phone for 7 years? Thats a lonnnng time in tech
I know my co worker has his Apple 6 or 7 pro . No matter what phone, the battery will never live 7 years. After 1 year it starts to degrade. But on power theme, S23 is faster with snapdragon 8 gen 2.
One more thing is that pixel's face unlock uses AI to improve its security to highest android standards (class 3) and now it is even possible to use pixel 8 and 8 pro's face unlock in banking apps.
Great video. An awesome feature that a lot of people don’t know about, the front facing camera on the pixel 8 pro is more secure, as it can now be used while approving payments and to login on bank apps, etc. awesome feature being they are only using the single camera and machine learning!
The fact there's decent availability of refurbished models helps on the price side of things, and there also seem to be nice contract offers. I'm hoping for a 512GB S23U because that also comes with the RAM bump to 12GB which will likely help with the longevity and hence pay for itself.
Just getting the pixel 8 Pro today. Can you confirm that you noticed that some of the camera features are not available yet? EG. Best face also eraser. These are just two off the camera features that I've noticed that are not there. Have you heard anything?
The S23 Ultra is my daily driver since around 1 month and I absolutely love it. Especially what no other smartphone I know offers - the magic of the SPen. Hovering over words to translate them as just one example of so many others. No way for me to even think about switching to something else. Of course that's just my opinion and absolutely fantastic if others live their Pixel 8 as much as I do with my Ultra 😊.
I guess that I am literally the only one who hates the S23 Ultra. That phone has pissed me off since I took it out of the box. To be fair I prefer Pixel software experience. I mean its bullshit that there are 2 of practically every app. No one wants Samsungs bullshit Samsung Pay vs Google pay, Samsungs Bixby vs Google Assistant, etc etc

At this point phones have reached a point where the differences are so small that it just depends on what ecosystem you prefer. Even if you have the money, it's insane to use a phone less than 8 months and buy a new one when the old phone is basically new. I call that being spoiled!@@redclaw72666
+1 for S23 Ultra, Google's pure vanilla android days are over, One UI caught up google, stop doing thermo-sensor gimmicks and put something that users will actually use.... as always, great review
S23 Ultra is a bit cheaper though. Has been out for almost 8 months now so you can easily get it for ~$900. With 256 GB of base storage rather than 128 GB. Just leaving that out there. You can also disable/delete most of the Samsung stuff so that's not a really big deal. Is a little annoying at first.
I'm a nearly 72 year old trying to be techy, the camera is important to me. I had the 6/7 Pro's, then 15 Pro Max, now 8 Pro. The 8 Pro out does the camera on the 15 Pro Max, but yah know what, my old 4XL had as good a camera in my opinion, it was brilliant. I'll find indoor shots too dark on the 8 Pro and not as good as the 7 Pro were, even though the lenses are bigger and supposedly allow more light in, weird! I like a lot of the features on the 8 Pro, the Android experience is good. I havent had a samsung phone since the galaxy 7 I think it was, i didn't rate it much. I'm just wondering what the 24 ultra will be like now, I like the idea of the S Pen. Cheers for this from Devon UK Happy new year! 👌🏻❤️
pixel cameras are generally regarded as the best you can get in phones, you can't go wrong with either to be fair, just depends how many moths occupy your wallet
I think you can fix the dark indoor shots by shooting in RAW format. You can edit images freely without losing detail, though i would understand why people wouldn't want to do that. It's annoying to constantly edit images.
S23U's display is indeed much bigger - its 6,8+, its wider at 19,3:9 and square. That is a lot more screen area objectively and subjectively it just looks/feels a lot bigger than any other 6,7" standard phone.
This is very true. I found the rectangular shape with the 90º corners, made it feel just TOO big when cased-up. The more rounded corners on the P8P should make it more comfortable both to hold, and when in the pocket.
Would be great if you tested how long these phones are able to last on a hot day with brightness set to maximum. My pixel 7 pro was reducing brightness pretty quickly.
@@themanwithdahelmet I switched to s23 ultra in the end so gotta agree. Pixel died from water damage, even tho he was like brand new, no cracks, scratches etc.. still It absorbed water like a sponge.
If all things are relatively close and it comes down to software experroence then it seems Pixel takes the cake. Unadulterated Android is the best Android and additional smart features like screen call just push it right over that edge.
S23 Ultra hands down, Pixel doesn't even have a chance, all these RUclipsrs are just selling the magic gimmicky camera software tricks on the Pixel, rest is just mid, Tensor G3 is just a Snapdragon 700 version at best, wonder if it can even handle yhe the future software updates lol.

Need help from the community, i am struggling to choose between pixel 8 pro or s23 ultra. I know that s23 has better overall performance while pixel has unique features and design (which i love). But i can get an s23 ultra for 300$ less than 8 pro, while pixel 8 pro does comes with the pixel watch 2. Does the software of pixel still justify the price or should i go for s23 ultra?
@@beyondtheuniverse999 i chose the pixel 8 pro, just for the sake of exploring things, my first high end phone actually, what i can say is if you love playing (heavy) games then s23 ultra would be the best bcs samsung is known for its performance. But if u dont then for the sake of pixel uniqueness pixel 8 pro is better. Oh for things like watching Netflix, the screen is better than iPhones, i can assure that.
Samsung offers the Dual SIM slot, which is still huge for those of us who own a personal and a work SIM card. Also, slightly better battery life, doesn't get dangerously hot as I've heard some of the Pixels do, has the pen thingy to work with, and the Dex system (I have it on my S8 Pro Tablet and find it useful). But... the Pixel 8 certainly looks more comfortable to hold, not so "boring/professional" and the software also looks cooler. Plus those AI perks to video and audio editing that are looking really interesting. Also, the 7-year update range (although 5 years is more than enough for a person to get bored of a phone). Damn. I guess waiting for Samsung S24 before making a decision might be the wisest choice. BTW I have a Huawei P30Pro and still love it, works great after almost 5 years.
With the Pixel 8, if you have a carrier that can take advantage of eSIM, then you can still take advantage of dual SIM as well. And so far the 8 has been doing much better as far as thermals vs the older Pixel 6 and 7.
I've had my Huawei p30pro for nearly 4 years and it hasn't let me down once, still runs like new with no problems whatsoever.. my contract runs out next month and I'm looking at what to get and I just can't decide! I've lost all interest in other phones specs since I've started using my Huawei
I have the Huawei P30 Pro and it is the best phone I've ever had and would still be using it even with it's couple of slight cracks, however the USB slot has given way and the cable constantly falls out and my Android Auto hates it. Torn between the S23U and GP8P but the looks of the Samsung are so slick even with the corners that may be a bit pokey on the hands. Pricewise about the same now, but O2 are offering the Google Watch (I already have an older Samsung watch) Decisions, Decisions!!!
So great. These are the two phones, and the two COLORS, I'm considering. Love your videos. I've had the s23U (tester unit) and the P8P (tester unit) for each only about a week. Now I'm making the decision for one to be my real, official daily driver...
Upgraded from the s23 plus to Pixel 8 pro. The pixel 8 pro is an amazing phone and impressive upgrade features when compared to the s23. Two major disappointments for me however are battery life and charging speed, especially when compared to the galaxy devices

Whats the battery life like on the pixel 8 pro, since my s22+ battery is trash, 4 hours of sot and this thing is dead so i am wondering if the pixel 8 pro is any better
@@briand8928 the S23 Ultra is an annoying piece of shit. Still no Android 14 and I have the US Factory Unlocked version. It should have been first to get it as no carriers to deal with.

The GUI and animations on the pixel are so much cooler than the Samsung. I mean look at those Lock Screen animations (5:55) how the screen fades in and out from the point that you interact with (fingerprint scanner or power button). Also I agree with what you said about Samsung doubling up on every service. It’s one of the things I hate about Samsung phones, that and the uninspired UI design. I still prefer iOS though and I am loving my 15 Pro Max.
I have a pixel 4a5g and the sound volume when trying to listen to music or videos is horrible. Even at full volume if there is other noise around, forget about it. I would like to know how the volume is on the 8 pro
The Pixel 8 Pro uses software enhancements and gimmickry to compensate for it's hardware shortcomings. It does it very very well though. Just not good enough for me to spend my hard earned money on one. I want the more reliable and tested and trusted and hardware advanced S23 Ultra. The Exynos 2300 based chip in the Pixel has poorer benchmark scores obviously, but it is potential long term thermal issues similar to those on earlier Pixels that concerns me. Google need a class leading in house chip to rival Apple and Samsung head on pound for pound and blow for blow because, in isolation, their phone cameras are so good and deserve better overall devices to be utilized on.
Yesterday I ordered my Google Pixel 8 pro in black coming from the S21 Ultra. It looks really great and elegant. I wanted to order the Galaxy S23 Ultra. But when I got the Pixel in my hands I decided right away to choose that. I can't wait till it will be delivered at my home. Thanks for the fantastic review!
@@akas2025 Well at the end I cancelled the P8 Pro and I decided to take the S23 Ultra. That was the best choice I made. The camera hardly can't be better, the battery life is almost 2 days, and charging is quick enough a full charge in 1 hour. And as a bonus the S-pen.
Coming from a guy who has used every pixel and loving the pixel family , I've got to give it to Samsung the s23 ultra is without the greatest phone every created , I'm in love with mine, had it from a pixel 7 pro and the s23 is better on every account,
@kevinsoto8028 the onky thing you can miss is the aesthetic or like 2 AI features. One UI is not bloated and apps can be deleted/disabled. Also, it has more features and is actually faster. Thr smoothness factor that everyone harps on can be controlled down to the last detail in settings and makes for a smoother experience than even iPhone. The bugs or lag is not there and the updates are miles better on samsung.
Questions for ya. Can you take 48mpx shots on the ultrawide ? Can you do 60fps on the ultrawide? I use my phone as a back up GoPro so I want a good upgrade that has a great ultrawide camera.
I used P8P for a few month now, I don't really know why you would say all these nice things about the battery. it plains sucks, the phone gets hot while filming for 10 min plus, then it just witches to 1080P. I love the pictures I take with P8P but that is it. Being in the EU, most of the features are not working.
Why NOT buy a Pixel 8 Pro instead of a S23 Ultra: - Crappy Exynos modified chip (Google Tensor 3) - Still no MHL (video over USB-C) - No desktop mode Looks like the chip will be changed in 2025, TSMC will produce it. If they fix those 3 things, or at the very least the first 2, I will jump to the Pixel.
Helpful review. Better speaker on the s23 ultra. How about wireless audio quality, any difference? (lossless aptx?). Previous pixels came out without initially having the ability to support usb c audio dacs. Do they work with the pixel 8 and s23 ultra?
I am so tempted to switch from S23U to the P8P, I am bored with Samsung as I have enjoyed the 3 ultras 3 years in a row. But the battery of the P8P looks too behind the S23U, no? I was expecting a battery somehow between the s22u exynos and s23u
Is it me or the videos side by side were not on the same FPS? What I mean is that the 23 ultra was running "120 fps" while the 8 pro was running at "60 fps". At least thats what it looks like on the video, there is a slight stutter on the 8 pro

I have the dilemma of this choice, im using a s20 fe 5g, have a watch 4 and buds live so im leaning towards samsung again also the trade in deal is superior, getting an extra 150 towards it which on contract makes the samsung £200 cheaper than the pixel, but you do get a watch which makes things confusing again, also the s24 will be jan/feb time ! Augghhhhhhh
i am getting a 24 month contract. i have a mid range Samsung right now and after a year it slowed down a lot. do google pixels keep up the performance long term?
If I remember well on the S23 ultra you cannot switch lenses while recording at 4k60, which is however possible on the Google Pixel ? Please can someone try?
Hands down the Ultra. Faster SoC (You can side load Geek Bench and see for yourself), much longer battery life, faster charging, faster fingerprint reader, better speakers, stylus. The "7 years of software updates" is a nonfeature promise for the very distant future. Let's see how that works out with the Tensor G3 7 years from now LOL. Like all the prior Pixels, the Pixel 8 is mostly software features behind an older, slower, inefficient SoC.
What if the Samsung had Exynos chips in certain regions with their flagships still. At least the pixel has a cheaper price and the software features sometimes require the Tensor chip to do more machine learning AI features that other phones can't' do or don't do as well. Rumours are that google will be working on having a more custom Tensor chip by the tensor G5 built by TSMC compared to the current Samsung manufacturing process.
I'm stuck on which one to get, before I had my eye on the Google Pixel, but after seeing a bunch of videos, the Samsung Galaxy, seems to be better. As I'm wanting the phone with the better camera, which one would be the better choice for night and day pictures, and videos?
I sold my Google Pixel 7 pro because I couldn't get rid of the search bar and weather widget. No one but me decides what should be on the screen when I open my phone. Google, Apple and other manufacturers please let people decide for themselves how the launcher looks on the overpriced products they buy from you. I don't think I'm the only one who is/was terribly annoyed and frustrated with the search bar on the Google Pixel. Locking the user like that is insane! I will not buy from Google again.
I was wonderint about certain features such as mirroring my ohone to a screen and connecting large harddrives, tbr google pixel seems unable to do so in the few days ive had it
It's definitely the S23U. No phone on the planet can touch it, for the complete package. There are some phones that can do this a bit better, or that, but none of them can do it all like this phone can. More features, better executed and with the best styling. Can't beat it.
The blocking of Geekbench is probably a remnant from the embargo. I got my Pixel 6a on day 2 and Geekbench wasn't available on it for the first few weeks
It's really about neck and neck as far as the pics/video on these two phones now that the Pixel has stepped up their video game. So, for me, it comes down to software experience and with that, Google wins hands down for me. I can't wait to get my P8Pro in today!

cause I can honestly say that I VERY rarely use my phone like that, and even if I did, that slight wobble is insignificant
I wholeheartedly agree, I use all of my phones in a case so it negates that "issue" completely. But yeah they all definitely love to point that out

I use a 512gb Red S23U and i love this phone, i do have the P7P in Hazel. I do love the software on the Pixel, but the S23U is definitely the better all-rounder. Looking forward to the P8P though.
I have the same one mate the phone is near enough perfect for me ..Just wish the red was less salmon pink ..Great phone 😊
Which feels better in the hand, also is cameras better on one than the other?
if i didnt already have a 23 ultra i might have gone for the pixel. this is the problem with pixel phones, they are always behind.
Is that the same for the pixel 8 ?
Great video. An awesome feature that a lot of people don’t know about, the front facing camera on the pixel 8 pro is more secure, as it can now be used while approving payments and to login on bank apps, etc. awesome feature being they are only using the single camera and machine learning!
The samsung line up has ultrasonic fingerprint readers for authentication
Older doesn't mean worse in this case. Would still go for the ultra. Especially, now it's alot cheaper to find.
The fact there's decent availability of refurbished models helps on the price side of things, and there also seem to be nice contract offers. I'm hoping for a 512GB S23U because that also comes with the RAM bump to 12GB which will likely help with the longevity and hence pay for itself.
Not cheap beand new 256GB is $2,000AUD for s23 ultra 😂
Just getting the pixel 8 Pro today. Can you confirm that you noticed that some of the camera features are not available yet? EG. Best face also eraser. These are just two off the camera features that I've noticed that are not there. Have you heard anything?
7 months later, hows the phone for you?

Dude. You're hilarious. I love all your videos. Super witty and amusing. Also great reviews!
If u replace your phone every year or other year, Samsung should be the best choice due to very high trade in value.
its left to be seen how the trade in value for pixel phones are maybe they will hold their value longer since the 8 series gets 7 years of updates
At this point phones have reached a point where the differences are so small that it just depends on what ecosystem you prefer. My phones were HTC then LG and so when they all shut down Google is the most similar to me. Hopefully they stick around 😂 I like a basic android experience plus call screening saves my life 😂
Im with you, I went to pixel 8 pro from s23 ultra, just because cleaner OS and I mostly use google apps. Gpay,Gmail, gmaps. It just made sense in my tiny brain xD

The differences in these two phones is NOT small. It's glaring. The S23U is better in almost every way, and yet it's over eight months old...
S23 ultra is the more powerful device but it also costs somewhat 200 more pounds than the pixel 8 pro.
you get what you pay for..
I want to get pixel 8 pro. Just missing One Hand Operation + is painful. How come only Samsung app have long/short swipe and diagonal gestures?
On top of using dex to emulate, run native games, move files, increase download speeds, and manage basic tasks with Microsoft apps.
+1 for S23 Ultra, Google's pure vanilla android days are over, One UI caught up google, stop doing thermo-sensor gimmicks and put something that users will actually use.... as always, great review
Have you noticed that fingerprint sensor works slower than ultrasonic one in samsung?
The temperature sensor on the pixel is actually such a nice add, since im an electrical engineer.
$900??? Don’t think so. Price still same. Possible sale in Black Friday.
Cheaper? The S23 Ultra is still 1349€ over here...Bit more expensive than the Pixel 8 Pro.
I get my Pixel 8 Pro for less than 700 euro. But that's because i stack some things.
"easily", just over $900 on sale during Prime Day. Where else can you easily get it for $900?
Cheers for this from Devon UK
Happy new year! 👌🏻❤️
pixel cameras are generally regarded as the best you can get in phones, you can't go wrong with either to be fair, just depends how many moths occupy your wallet
@@Red_Snappatoo big only if you have small hands

Would be great if you tested how long these phones are able to last on a hot day with brightness set to maximum. My pixel 7 pro was reducing brightness pretty quickly.
They know samsung is the brightest especially with auto brightness on and can sustain that brightness ever longer time than any phones out there

This special features doesn't work in Europe
So, the pixel uses google photo's app, not an other gallery app?
And how do i remove the clock and temperature in the left corner? I can't remove it?
Nope
The only only way to get rid of that widget and the search bar is to use a launcher

I'm in the position, which one did you get?
My P30 pro started with the main camera going blurry then 2 months back screen went black 😅loved that phone
I prefer One UI specially after the major update
I have the Huawei P30 Pro and it is the best phone I've ever had and would still be using it even with it's couple of slight cracks, however the USB slot has given way and the cable constantly falls out and my Android Auto hates it.
Torn between the S23U and GP8P but the looks of the Samsung are so slick even with the corners that may be a bit pokey on the hands.
Pricewise about the same now, but O2 are offering the Google Watch (I already have an older Samsung watch)
Decisions, Decisions!!!
My s23u drains like 15 to 20 percent for an hour of SoT with nominal use since the recent updates. Anyone else facing the same?
So great. These are the two phones, and the two COLORS, I'm considering. Love your videos. I've had the s23U (tester unit) and the P8P (tester unit) for each only about a week. Now I'm making the decision for one to be my real, official daily driver...

Well done for 1m subscribers! The Pixel aspect ratio too narrow now(20:9)!

How about android experience, do you miss pixel experience?
@kevinsoto8028 the onky thing you can miss is the aesthetic or like 2 AI features. One UI is not bloated and apps can be deleted/disabled. Also, it has more features and is actually faster. Thr smoothness factor that everyone harps on can be controlled down to the last detail in settings and makes for a smoother experience than even iPhone. The bugs or lag is not there and the updates are miles better on samsung.

I used P8P for a few month now, I don't really know why you would say all these nice things about the battery. it plains sucks, the phone gets hot while filming for 10 min plus, then it just witches to 1080P. I love the pictures I take with P8P but that is it. Being in the EU, most of the features are not working.
Why NOT buy a Pixel 8 Pro instead of a S23 Ultra:
- Crappy Exynos modified chip (Google Tensor 3)
- Still no MHL (video over USB-C)
- No desktop mode
Looks like the chip will be changed in 2025, TSMC will produce it. If they fix those 3 things, or at the very least the first 2, I will jump to the Pixel.
And that would come with $200 increase in price
Helpful review. Better speaker on the s23 ultra. How about wireless audio quality, any difference? (lossless aptx?).

I live in Florida and take lots of videos outdoors. My iPhone 14pro max screen is crap, my S23 Ultra is so much brighter. But @ 8:25 …? Wow, pixel!
Is it me or the videos side by side were not on the same FPS? What I mean is that the 23 ultra was running "120 fps" while the 8 pro was running at "60 fps". At least thats what it looks like on the video, there is a slight stutter on the 8 pro
Can you please run a demanding game like GI with the frame counter enabled? So we can see how much smoother the game is on the S23U? Thanks!

Exactly 100%%
What if the Samsung had Exynos chips in certain regions with their flagships still. At least the pixel has a cheaper price and the software features sometimes require the Tensor chip to do more machine learning AI features that other phones can't' do or don't do as well. Rumours are that google will be working on having a more custom Tensor chip by the tensor G5 built by TSMC compared to the current Samsung manufacturing process.

Exactly this. So many reviewers fail to mention the release date of the S23 Ultra - the S24 Ultra may in fact be released in January, that's when the better comparison can be made
Maybe 8 months used to be a long time, but in the phone world each generation isn't really breaking the mould like it used to
