- The plaintiff hired and paid the defendant to do work at a rental house he owns. However, the plaintiff claims the defendant only finished half of the work and threatened to kill him, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant argues that the plaintiff abused him and never gave him a deadline to complete the work, so he denies owing.

Saying he called his boss to “find out where he was” is pretty shady. Dude knew where he was after he tried to return the check and called him the first time. It wasn't about where he was.
It was about jumping the line and getting his job finished. The company shouldn't have been called on a side deal.
Also, lack of boundaries. He didn't want to use the company to do the job, but called the company to check on the worker.
It's too bad he didn't have proof that he dropped off those materials. The plaintiff lied about the defendant threatening his family, materials being purchased, and having someone ready to rent. Materials were clearly purchased for those jobs. That's not hard to prove if you were actually talking with someone who didn't rent because the work was unfinished.
The plaintiff is his own worst enemy.

I'm a bit disturbed that the plaintiff grinned (7:43) when the defendant told the judge that he had called his boss. He looks happy that he got the defendant in trouble.

No one should call or text anyone at a funeral. How inappropriate & tactless & unsympathetic.
You can get bad work with a licensed contractor too. Some of the best work comes from unlicensed. But yes, it’s risky to hire unlicensed.
I think the big issue is that there is no recourse with an unlicensed contractor and things cannot be guaranteed to be up to code. Where there are laws in place for license contractors that they have to follow and you can file the grievance against a license contractor because they don't want to lose their license.
@@davidswick8571 nah . theres alot of shady licensed contractors . just because they have a license is no guarantee of good work or legal recourse . they can change their name and get a new license number if they need to .

The defendant brought him the check back and tried to quit. The defendant wouldn't let him BASICALLY 😆. Then he starts harassing the man at work. Seems like he don't like no until he gets no work done 🤭

What a horrible person to be calling on the day of his funeral... and yes, it does take about 10 days to get back to work, depending on the shock somone is in. He was selfish. Just mean. Adding to yhe fact he kept grinning about all.of this. How disrespectful.
The good thing about hiring a licensed person is that the customer can go to the licensing board with any complaints and typically get a swifter resolution HOWEVER in no way does licensed equate to better work; that's a fallacious deduction...
that may not even work out because some licensed people are using fake numbers and fake names .

The guy I hired said he couldn't make an appointment because his sheep has gotten sick. True story. It's been a year and he still hasn't finished. I stopped waiting for his phone call but decided not to sue. Karma is what it is and he will get his.

The plaintiff clearly harassed the defendant when he kept calling and texting during the funeral. I don't think that he deserves any money back.
The defendant did like a 1/4 of the job, took the money and split. Of course the plaintiff deserves his money back. I'd be calling him too to see what's up and when he was returning to finish the work.

Most these plaintiff people are very abusive trying to get more money than the one they deserve. Just trying to fool the Judge, but she is very smart for them to do so! What a crooks most of them! This plaintiff didn't have any compassion for the defendant troubles with a dead in his family. VERY RUDE CALLING THE BOSS! IT WAS FOR COMPLAIN, AND THE POOR GUY WAS AT THE FUNERAL! What a Jerk!

I know tons of licsenced Roofing contractors that do absolutely horrible work!!! Check references and pictures of the work they do !!!!! Some none liscened contractors are better and do more detailed work!!!!

I'm glad that I don't own rental property. I'm also glad that I don't own any property. Renting is the only way to go.....What I do own is a few paintings. My collection is appraised at $3000 and it makes me very happy. It also looks great on my walls. Invest in art, not future headaches.
Rent are increasing. Average rent pre Covid19 was 800s up, it has now jumped to 1300. and up monthly 😳 . SOME people became homeless, because of outrageous jumps.
@@eg1197 very true.....I only pay $500, which is the going rate in this backwoods mountain retreat town. I paid $600 for another place back in 2016 and that place is now $900. I'm just one person, a retired, so I only need a small place (650 SQ ft - large by urban standards. I also have a half acre backyard. I've lived in 8 different states, including downtown Chicago. I know that my home town is the exception, which is why I live here. I became homeless in 2000, so I totally understand how much that hurts.
@@eg1197 monthly rent is roughly 1% of the home's value. This place is only worth 50K, so that's why it's so cheap. Our current average rent is based on the fact that the cost of real estate went up after COVID. Minimum wage also went up. The economy will always be a tug of war between the haves and have nots. The haves have a huge sense of entitlement and that's not me. I'll be a have not and keep enjoying my stress free lifestyle. Owning property is a headache. I've bought two houses in my lifetime and all that did was turn me into a have. I'm not comfortable with that feeling, that sense of entitlement. When you own something, you possess it. It's a demonic mundane reality and a crappy ego trip.
You mean it looks great on your landlords walls. Real estate only appreciates. It’s a sound investment. In 10 years my condo appreciated $100,000. Maybe renting is the right choice for you if your not sure which end of a hammer to hold 🥴

🤔IThe guys suing for $3680 when it was all said & done he only gave him $1380 and the guy removed the steps and did 1/2 countertop.. Defendant got $400 for his labor the defendant got $980 of the $1380 back so he was trying to get $2700 extra 😂
He was trying to sue for lost rent as well. Since he couldn't prove it, the judge didn't go further into the amounts.
