If you have the opportunity to shoot such beautiful women the result is outstanding anyway 🤩 But if one looks closely to your images it becomes obvious that the the R- version images are not only sharper, but have more contrast with more vivid colors. So the faces pop more out of the background, they have a more pronounced three-dimensional look. Bottom line: I am looking forward to get a used copy of the RF second hand, what will cost me about 1500 Swiss Francs. The EF- version new plus EF-RF- adapter would cost me 1230 Francs, so the difference to an used RF 50/1.2 is negligible for me. Kind regards from Switzerland.
I really hope Canon releases an L-series 50mm f1.4, I think a lot of people are stuck between not wanting to be saddled with the size of the f1.2 but wanting better than what the nifty fifty f1.8 can offer. Ok... I'm not a Canon shooter but I watched this video to the end, mostly because your voice makes you sound like a good person, there was ancillary information that was helpful, and the video was beautiful
Zach, really great coverage of these two serious lenses. And beautiful images…you have a knack. Like how you processed the. . Do we see lifestyle and fashion work in your future?
Thank you so much, Craig! Really means a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed the video- thanks for watching! And, sure I'd love that kind of work in the future - we'll see!
Hey, awesome review! Just one thing… the EOS R has the command dial just like the some Pentax, Nikon and Sony’s. Up top in the back besides the LCD screen so you can use it with your thumb without loosing the grip of the camera contrary to the back dial which you would have to loose your grip to operate it. The EOS R5 incorporates the same layout without the thumb bar and the extra wheel and the AF button in a better place. Cheers! Really enjoy the review!!!
This video introduced me to your channel. I really like your style. It's so slow and calm. The music is perfect. The photos hist complete the whole package. Really like your style. Subscribed!! Good luck mate!
Great video! Thank you! I have been using a Canon R6 with EF lenses, using the adapter. I have found that this combination creates very small file sizes. The file sizes are smaller than what my old Canon 60D produces. Have you run into this?
Yes! I should make a low light R6 video in general. I think in low light we can expect the lenses to perform similarly optically. I know the RF version would be the winner in terms of AF for sure. Thanks so much for watching :)
Well Zach you got me... I usually subscribe to channels that I randomly find videos.. if I see more than once video that makes me smile.. I'm subscribed with notifications.... You win bro. Looking to get an R6 and invest onto great EF glass (until photo pays any bills, then I'll look at RF) btw. That single thumbs down.. was just a sour dude totally envious of you hanging out with gorgeou models. Big high-five from the Dominican Republic! @MonchyPerez
The EF has more of a classic film vibe to it, which is to say I personally prefer its character. The RF can definitely feel a bit over-sharp for some styles. If you're the type of shooter that digs the Fujifilm vibe, the EF is the way to go. For super high-res commercial stuff, the RF would definitely win out. I'd be super interested to see the same lens comparison on your C70, graded to match your photo style and the EF with and without the .71x adapter.
@@TheZachMendez I'm assuming you were using an ND filter. If so, did you use a dark enough setting to have a low f stop? Or was it a higher f stop since you already had motion blur.
Hmm have you tried it the other way around? The EF on the R6 and on the R the RF lense? Could be also the sensor is better cause R6 doesn't have that internal filter (forgot what it's called)
Nice comparison. But what I found even more interesting was an insight in this photoshoot. How you directed the models and getting different shots. Found myself not listening to what you where saying because I was so focused on the visuals - only to got back shortly after to hear what you had to say about the lenses. xD
Thanks for the video Zach, I just picked up an R5 to replace may aging, but wonderful, 645z. The price of the RF lenses is daunting. I see that there's a 135mm F1.4L on the RF roadmap! Time to sell another one of the kids! Brian in San Luis Obispo
I own the EF currently, not the RF, so I'm probably biased but I think I like the slightly fuzzier quality of the EF, although the RF's sharpness looks dope. I also have the Dream Lens which murders both of these in the character department.
Really great question! Yeah, that is definitely an option to get a bit of an edge on the EF images, although in my experience most of the time you don't need much when shooting with the R cameras. I'm generally pleased with the amount of sharpness from the EF lenses. Thanks so much for watching & for the comment! :)
This is such an amazing review in the beginning you mention the price the EF is a already expensive the RF lenses are just crazy in terms of price. Buy love the review and hey let me save up for the rf. One day, one day. Keep up the great videos

This is the video I've been looking for! Trying to decide between the R5 and R6 and I'm stunned by the image quality out of the R6 with the EF! (currently on a 5dmk3). Excited either way I go! Would you say you at all "miss" or want for the additional resolution? (I know it depends on your crop style etc).
Thank you so much for watching! I am so glad you found the video helpful. Honestly I sometimes would like a bit more resolution, yes, but for the vast majority of work I am so pleased with the look of the images that I don't really mind. 20 MP is still a lot of MP, and is more than capable of producing high quality, printable images, especially with a new sensor like the one in the R6. I hope this helps! Thank you! :)
@@TheZachMendez defintely helps! Especially seeing it from a working perspective. I picked up a 50 f1.2 but was a little frustrated by focus so I'm really looking forwards to the new AF
I recently borrowed the 85 1.2 RF from Canon to compare to my EF II version and money aside I do prefer the newer lens for my work but because I shoot mostly w/the 28-70 f2 RF already it's hard to justify and I'll stay with my EF for now. Great work I'm typically not impressed w/these kinds of videos with models on RUclips but this work is actually creative and illustrates the differences between the lenses nicely
Hey there! Thanks so much for watching & for the comment. I am really curious about both lenses, the RF 28-70 and RF 85. Especially the 85. I'm curious to know what you think about them in terms of IQ/usability/etc. I'm hoping to rent at some point. Thanks again! :)
@@TheZachMendez I'm mostly an editorial photography and the 28-70 is sublime, I sold my 35 1.4, 50 1.2 and will sell my 24 1.4, I never thought I could love a zoom lens so much but the way it renders the background is so fantastic hard to explain until you've used it a bunch -- the 85 is wonderful and I used it for 2 magazine assignments and a commercial shoot -- I love it just can't justify the price tag
RF glass seems to really unlock R mount cameras' fullest technological potential. I've noticed even my cheap RFS 10-18mm pancake lens, just how nice and sharp it gets when I was in Cuba doing beach shots on my R7 vs, my old beasty Sigma 18-35. Now I know they're not the same lens built for the same purpose, or have the same aperture. But performance wise; the RFS locked on better, faster, and slightly sharper but retained less detail than that old EFS. Now, this got me very curious. I have an old EF 70-200 f2.8L version 1 non-IS and I got some really nice shots with it. How much better would the RF version be?

Fantastic comparison vid! And one that was needed!
Thank, Maxx!! And thanks for the killer footage - looking forward to making more! :)
lovely video
I appreciated the honest review - how about one on the RF 50mm? I have the 35, and 85L - I have a nifty 50 and wonder if that should be my first RF 50L - thank you!!
Stunning photos
Thank you so much! Means a lot :)
This was a great comparison. Was the EF loud when AF’ing? I shoot more with flash and curious when shooting as the sun went down were you exposing for the face or underexposing? Could you give an idea of settings please. If your using histogram? Thanks
Ok... I'm not a Canon shooter but I watched this video to the end, mostly because your voice makes you sound like a good person, there was ancillary information that was helpful, and the video was beautiful
Ah thank you so much and thanks for watching!
amazing photos , great review. I have the RF because i do a lot of Automotive, but i would love the EF also :)
Thanks, Marc!! I recently switched to the RF version because the EF was giving me some issues. Really love them both so much. Thanks for watching!
Really like your vibe.
Thanks for watching :)
Hey Zach can you please make the video on the filters you’re using for photography. Thanks mate.
Yes!! I talk about them in my recent gear video if you are curious. Thanks for watching! :)
Glad you enjoyed it!! Thanks for watching! :)
Wish you drop sample files to check the quality
Great video, thanks.
Really great assesment! How do you think the 1.4 compares to the 1.2?
I haven't spent much time with the 1.4, but I do have a video coming up comparing the RF 1.8 with the EF 1.2 - stay tuned :)
This video introduced me to your channel. I really like your style. It's so slow and calm. The music is perfect. The photos hist complete the whole package. Really like your style. Subscribed!! Good luck mate!
Thank you so much! Really means a lot to hear this! I definitely want to continue making videos like this one. Really appreciate it! :)
This is the video I was looking for, a nice and good comparison between the EF 50 1.2 (which I own) and the new RF.
Great job and amazing images!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for watching :)
Outstanding video
Thank you so much for watching, Ryan! Much appreciated :)
Great video! Thank you! I have been using a Canon R6 with EF lenses, using the adapter. I have found that this combination creates very small file sizes. The file sizes are smaller than what my old Canon 60D produces. Have you run into this?
I haven't! I don't see why the lens would impact file size drastically... Maybe double check your camera settings?
@@TheZachMendez Ooh, I figured it out. It was only happening with an EF-S lens! 😬
@@hannahschmale w t f?
@@gabbielopez2285 Can you elaborate?
@@hannahschmale yea
Great video, I like your real life comparison and your style. Subscribed
Thank you so much! And thanks for the sub! Glad you found the channel! 😊
Great video! Would like to also see low light performance differences.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m glad you found the channel. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch! Happy shooting! 📸
Thanks for watching & for the suggestion! Much appreciated :)
yes combo 50L + 85 mmf1.8 + 135mm f2 + 200 f2.8 (old prime one) all in Ef mount are the same and best film vibe ever.
Great compatison with greater skills. Nice yo know you.
whats the plastic bag on the lense is for?
It is just an effect! The edges of the bag get blown out and create a really hazy/dreamy effect. Learned it from Ben Sasso!
@@TheZachMendez slick!
I just became a "Fan"... Amazing video... Truly..
Ah wow this is so nice. Thanks for watching!
These are so good
Thanks so much, Brian! Really means a lot :)
Amazing photos 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much!
Where was the location of this shoot? I’m a Santa Barbara local as well and so glad I found this channel!
Parma Park! One of my faves here. Glad you found the channel- thanks for watching! 😊
@@TheZachMendez thank you for the response!!!
Love this video. What shutter speed were you using for those walking shots? The mirror shots were awesome too
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed! Usually for movement, I am shooting at 1/20 or 1/15. Thanks so much for watching :)
@@TheZachMendez I pulled the trigger on the RF 50mm bc of this video. Love your work. Love your style. Hopefully it comes soon.
About to buy RF 50 f1.2L much appreciated ❤
Man you will LOVE it! Thanks for watching! :)
Nice comparison. But what I found even more interesting was an insight in this photoshoot. How you directed the models and getting different shots. Found myself not listening to what you where saying because I was so focused on the visuals - only to got back shortly after to hear what you had to say about the lenses. xD
Thanks so much for watching & for the comment! I am so glad you enjoyed the video. I really want to keep making more of these. Thanks again! :)
Learned so much from you Zach. Thanks so much! Love from Pakistan.
Ah thank you! This means so much to me - so glad the videos are helpful. Thank you for watching!
Awesome pro level creativity going on here.
Thank you so much & thanks for watching :)
That's a really good location!
It is one of my favorite places in SB :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video Zach, I just picked up an R5 to replace may aging, but wonderful, 645z. The price of the RF lenses is daunting. I see that there's a 135mm F1.4L on the RF roadmap! Time to sell another one of the kids! Brian in San Luis Obispo
LOL I know... these lenses are no joke. I am slowly getting into them but it's not easy for the wallet! Thanks for watching.
I own the EF currently, not the RF, so I'm probably biased but I think I like the slightly fuzzier quality of the EF, although the RF's sharpness looks dope. I also have the Dream Lens which murders both of these in the character department.
Yeah, both of these lenses are amazing haha. It's hard to choose!! Thanks so much for watching :)
I'm wondering how well the sharpness deficit can be remedied with careful sharpening in post.
Thank you so much for the kind words & for watching! I really appreciate it! :)
great content and fantastic photos! subscribed....but may I ask what’s the song title on the background?😀
Thank you so much for watching & subscribing! Means a lot! :) All my music comes from MusicBed. I used songs from Voyageur, Eric Kinney, & Benajmin Gustafsson. Thanks again! :)
What company did you rent the lenses from and how much?
Hey there! I've just been using lensrentals.com Thanks for watching! :)
Can you company Canon EF 50 1.2 and Canon RF 50 1.8?
Thanks. Fuji shooter contemplating defecting to Canon. I love the look of the EF.
It's so good!! Thanks for watching :)
