      35mm is my favorite because it's the only way for affordable cameras (ie Sony a6000) to achieve a full-frame 50mm focal length as praised in this video.
      I think the majority of Peter's 5 million followers do not use a full frame camera so it'd be great if he could mention about this. Awesome video tho! 👍🏼

    The 50mm is the one lens that unfortunately "never" fits for my motives. 😂
    It's too narrow if you need to get a wide shot in a room or a group of people and it's too wide for a fairly detailed portrait, if you can't move closer than 6 feet / 2 meters.

      On Sony it's 1.5 times crop so 50 / 1.5 = ~35mm
      For Micro Four Thirds you need to calculater accordingly.

    The 50mm 1.2 I feel is the all around best portrait lens if you want to both capture blurred out backdrops of the subject and have the option of including plenty of scenery around the subject in other photos. The 85 1.2 I feel is the best portrait lens if you want only the person in focus with the background blurred out. The 85, being at 60% longer focal length, at f1.2, has a magical look all of it's own. Less diverse than the 50, so yes, couldn't agree more when you mention particular lenses creating very particular looks to photographs. Great video!

    Me personally, not a fan of grain or noise. Like with some Netflix shows *cough cough* I found the noise/grain VERY distracting especially when It’s on a 4K and 4K is supposed to be crystal clear and the image is purposely not clear, it’s triggering for me 🤣

    • @roknboker
      @roknboker 3 года назад

      Sometimes it bothers me - sometimes it doesn't - so I feel yah. What does bother me with some Netflix show is how they've decided to shoot them at like f/ 1.2 or f/1.4 - like with extreme bokeh -

    I am betting 1000$ that RF 35mm f/1.2 is coming by the end of the year.

    • @TerraThink
      @TerraThink 3 года назад

      I'd love a 35mm f1.4 with stabilization and as much magnification as possible.
      (basically RF 35mm f1.8 but lets in more light and is built for a pro (which includes weather-sealing, faster and quieter focusing motors, even sharper glass, etc.)).
      Why not f1.2? Well, f1.4 would be cheaper, smaller, lighter and doesn't sacrifice that much compared with f1.2.
      And none of the f1.2 lenses have image stabilization built-in unfortunately. This is especially important for video!

    Peter! Story time. The day I decided I needed to take photography seriously I did research into what I liked. I stumbled across YOUR old video on the nifty fifty. Realized it could get SO MUCH of what I wanted. Found a 1.4 for the price of a 1.8 and THAT VERY WEEK I got my first paid gig doing bts for a photo studio and ALLLLL I used for like 2 years was almost strictly the 50mm. I'm still working my way to pro, but thanks for putting me on the path. It's been a wild ride.

    Got the 1.8 saved me thousands of dollars. I can get the 1.2 bokeh by either stepping back further or having my subject step closer to me. Easy.

      Hell back in the film days you couldn't afford one either. They were so overpriced compared to an f1.4 it was outlandish. In fact you could have bought a slightly used VW Bug for the price of a Canon 1.2L glass in the 70's
