As a small person, turning in my hoods and decreasing the reach has been a game changer! Not only is it more comfortable, it's also faster as I'm now riding with bend arms on the hoods instead of straight arms on the hoods or bars!
One thing I find that really helps when doing up your shoes when you only have a single boa dial is to put a thumb or finger under the tongue, tighten, remove finger, and then tighten again. This helps with making sure that the shoe tightens lower down first instead of just cranking on it and then feeling like the upper part is way too tight and the lower part is still loose.
the lever adjustment blew my freaking mind and ive been riding for 15 years... i immediately adjusted them, i even have the carbon sensah single lever action levers
I had done the cleat thing on my MTB because it felt more natural as I was used to ride flats, I just did it on my road bike and I've noticed it's way more easy to clip in and it feels pretty good
James' advice is excellent, especially on cleat positioning. In my case, with strong pronation, I used podiatrist recommended insoles but had to go a size up for Shimano shoes to make it work.
Thanks guys, your videos are interesting and helpful as always! I can tell you for a fact that there is no good information on the internet about adjusting the G8 insoles that James often mentions in your videos. I have these insoles bought online but I don't understand how to set them up correctly. How to properly adjust the arch, what should I feel. Why g8 advise moving the arch forward. How to use wedges under the heel. We really need this information! :)
Like always, very practical and free advices from CADE media that are extremely important for comfort on a bike. You guys are the only bicycle channel that I subscribed because unfortunately in cycling there is so much snobbery these days. Everybody recommending only the stuff that they are sponsored from and the stuff that normal mortals can't buy. You guys are the only only one worth watching and following. Please stay like that and don't change!
Flipping hood inwards is a gamechanger, wide drop grip use in occasional sprintsm ore leverage and opens diafram too.. while hood tops put you in aero narrow holding the postion in longer time..
James comes across brilliantly, If I lived closer to his shop I'd definitely book a fitting and or buy a bike from him. I'm a big lump with bowed shins, so like the extra touches of information given that helps us fatties.

I would like to thank James a lot. I tried the cleats trick (take them down, full bottom) and it changed so much my comfort on the bike. I had saddles issues before doing this, now it's way better. I noticed I was using more my glutes muscles. A good thing :) Thank you again.
Good to see my bike fitter did most of this stuff to my bike (suggested flipping the stem. Didn't have to in the end, rotated the bars forward, brought the hoods up a fair amount, pushed my cleats back, rotated my saddle forward a lot) so I have gone to someone who knows what they're talking about.
Always taking James advice! Hoping for a new bike, will definitely be going back to Bicycle to get fitted again by James or any one his team of bike fitters! Riding has been glorious since my fit, so few problems now compared to before!
Great video thanks guys. I'm going to try several of those things. I'd like to have a bike fit but in my part of the world trying to find someone isn't easy. There is a couple of guys but they are booked out for months and a few hours drive away
Commenting partly for the algorithm, partly to as always, thank James. I've been a bit naughty with adjusting my fit over the last 6 months or so. Narrowed my handle bars, but swapped to a longer stem. I did compensate by raising my bars 5mm. May go back to the the shorter stem. When I'm home, I'll check my lever position again.
Flipping the stem while moving it lower to keep the same drop you will end up with exactly the same reach. The two positions of the stem are like two sides of a triangle, they meet at the same poit. The reason that the reach was reduced on this bike is because not enough spacers were removed and the deop was reduces. You would need to remove around 20 mm of spacers on a 110 mm stem in order to keep the same drop.
That is exactly what I was thinking..flipping the stem might even mean more reach since the fork leans back so the lower the stem is on the fork then the further away it is...I reduced reach by flipping the stem but also lifting it higher and using a shorter one...whilst also changing the bars to a modern design with less reach....
Very practical based advice video from James, good close up shots on the how to sections. More toon bike fit Tuesday's in the future please gents ! 👍👏🙏have a great bank holiday weekend guys ! 🍻
Great video, as always, im having trouble at the moment, new saddle, new shoes, and cleats. planning a fit in the next few weeks, but my right knee medial inside is absolutely killing on rides. Are there any tips in the interim?
Every time someone refers to a Speedmaster as ‘speedy’, a little puppy is beheaded. Thank you Jeremy Meares, now I have to replace my living room carpet.
I’m a career mountain bikers, recently switched to a roadie! Made the classic mistake of buying a bike based off the size guide and it was huge, felt like my arms were being pulled out my sockets. New frame later with a much shorter reach and a 20mm shorter stem. My posture is now much better and I’ve a bend in my arms. However I’m getting bad lower back ache on the right side. Is this just new muscles my cave man body needs to think about using? Or more likely a saddle/saddle height issue? I’d say I have a very strong core, developed from mountain biking, but obviously a much different posture. I’m also not one for stretching.. yeah sorry muscles! I’m only a couple of rides into my new bike!
Thanks for the helpful tips. I followed your advice pushing the cleats back which I thought worked well, however I had a bike fit a couple days ago and they moved them quite a bit forward (for "better power transfer"), now my left knee hurts. Should I try pushing through a bit longer or ignore their advice?
James regarding the g8 insoles. How will i know i have them set up right? Is there a test or guide for how to determine optimal placement of the support? Thanks in advance for any help.
Any advice on solving a 2nd metatarsal issue from pressure point underneath. Not sure if it’s because of using mountain bike spds or playing other sports.
Hey James.....what about stance for people who overpronate who already have insoles ( g8 ) .... generally would it be more out or in, thinking in to get the foot and knee etc more inline???
When I experimented with turning my shifters in I found that if I did it more than a tiny bit it turned my hand so the part of my hand that was still on the bar (I have big hands I guess) was resting on the median nerve, causing hand numbness over time.
I do have indeed a question: I usually suffer under the numb testicle syndrome and experimented quite a lot with seating positions, saddles and cycling shorts. I also might have bit of an anterior pelvic tilt, don't know if this amplifies that problem. Is there anything specific I can try, or maybe some stretching to get my place on the saddle different? Thanks a lot! Keep up the good work!
James where do you put the level to get the SLR Boost Superflow saddle level? Since the nose drops and back raises up a little hard to know what level is. Thanks!
Cleat location... I never realized the importance until seeing James speak about it. I don't understand the bio-mechanics, it seems voodoo that 10 mm cleat adjustment, for example, can be the difference between pain and comfort. I had this experience a few months ago.
I've been riding with my cleats set as far forward as they go. I don't have a problem or pain. Would you recommend I move to cleats towards the centre of the shoes?
Should all road cyclists use the big 3-pin cleat... or is the small 2-pin MTB cleat ok? I like the small 2-pin cleat just cuz its easier to walk... but am I giving up performance by not using 3-pin cleats?
James I’ve been waiting with bated breath for your next video. You did not disappoint! Absolutely love your bike fit videos; you sir are a Bike Fit God!❤️🚴🏻♂️
2 knees, 4 knee surgeries. Ditching my speedplay zero lollipops for road spd, slamming the cleat all the way back… feels like 5x the engagement/power transfer with a very significant comfort improvement. WOW. Thank you. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
i tend to walk on the outside edge of my foot, and have noticed that when i cycle i do the same, would the G8 2620 insoles be good for correcting this? thanks
Hey James, got a Q, why did I get a pressure point on my hand/palm, when I tried the ‘rotated in’ handle bar? Particularly, in between my thumb and index finger, the fat-ish muscle? I did ride with straight handlebars and it was OK to begin with, but I fixed something that’s not broken… hmm. Did I answer my own question? Haha.
I tried moving the cleat back a few years past and found that it greatly reduced my sprint power and ability to maintain a high cadence. That said, sprints are my strength and I generally ride at a higher cadence than most. The far back cleat position just doesn't suit my riding style.
Didn’t realise I’d undone my lower BOA by accident on a ride once and almost took my big toenail off! Realised 10 miles in something was off! 🤦🏻♂️ A casein point in dysfunctional absorption!
Can confirm, moving the cleat back and to a wider stance relieved some of my issues.
As a small person, turning in my hoods and decreasing the reach has been a game changer! Not only is it more comfortable, it's also faster as I'm now riding with bend arms on the hoods instead of straight arms on the hoods or bars!

This helps with making sure that the shoe tightens lower down first instead of just cranking on it and then feeling like the upper part is way too tight and the lower part is still loose.
Mine is the other way around. The toes are too tight. How do I tighten so the upper part is tighter?
@@escamunicha4276 do the same, but in the opposite way: put a finger under the front "threads"
James’s advice is good. All the other bike fitters on youtube are awful.

Everything just makes more sense with James :) So glad I went for a bikefit with him.
Two James videos in a week? How blessed are we? 🙏😀

Never thought about the shoes like that, I've been doing the lower up first, so at least I'm doing something right for a change.
Changing the saddle is what did it for me in the end. I got a Fizik Arione now and all my problems are gone.
Hi Francis and James, will there be a tips video on how one can do bike fit adjustments if you wrongfully bought a larger framed bike?

Cinelli? Is cade media expanding to fixed gear ?🥺
Pretty bike..I want one
What model saddle is that for tip 3? I've been trying to find a saddle without a kick at the tail, I am looking for entirely flat if possible.
How to increase things like reach and stack when your bike is (allegedly) a bit too small?
Hey James, got a Q, why did I get a pressure point on my hand/palm, when I tried the ‘rotated in’ handle bar? Particularly, in between my thumb and index finger, the fat-ish muscle? Where exactly do you want your sit bones on the saddle?
Why am i more comfortable to ride in the drops instead on the hoods? Is it only due to shorter reach?

The best one is the one that fits you!
I tried moving the cleat back a few years past and found that it greatly reduced my sprint power and ability to maintain a high cadence. That said, sprints are my strength and I generally ride at a higher cadence than most. The far back cleat position just doesn't suit my riding style.

How do I know if a fitter is any good? If I'm spending $300+ on a fit I would like to ensure that the fitter is knowledgeable.
I'm old so did I hear James correctly, lowering the handlebar height reduces reach?? I think he miss-spoke.
