My mom passed last year and moments like these bring her back to me. She was born and raised in the South. If you wanted her recipes, you had to be there when she made the dish. There weren't exact measurements like in a cookbook. It was all by feel and made with love. Thanks for posting this!
Love the way older People cook they have their own measuring system lol some don't measure at all and make some of the best food you have ever had brings back memories of older loved ones of mine who have passed on great video thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for sharing her recipe, I’ve been looking for a real good biscuits recipe like my mom use to make and I promise you This is the best!
Miss my grandma so much, she raised me and we baked almost everyday. Love seeing this.cherish her with all your heart. Love and many blessings wished for you all ❤
Thank you for sharing this bit of simple love from your family. My grandma was born in 1925, she cooked biscuits like this every single morning nearly until she passed, I miss them dearly, and all the tips and tricks I never wrote down.
Oh Big mama, I made your biscuits yesterday. And they are absolutely wonderful. You remind me so much of my beloved grandmother who raised me. Her biscuits were good, really good. But sweetie. I honestly believe your recipe beats hers. You are a dear lady, and so sweet. I am wishing you many many years of health, joy and family. Love to all.
We called our grandma , big mama too..she made the best homemade everything, living out on the farm in the country..dont get no better....She even made us youngus a baby biscuit...memories.yall all have a blessed day...
Beautiful biscuits. I used to drive a truck and went through Wynonna quite often. A nice, southern town. Hopefully, folks have respect for each other. Folks today, in general, have no idea how thrifty folks had to be back in the 40s 50s, and 60s. Lots of people made their own bread, canned hundreds of cans of veggies...sometimes meat. Applesauce, jellies, and jams. My grandma did 3 meals a day on a woodstove, and canned on the same. My grandfather was a farm hand, so they never had much...5 children. And she hand washed all the clothes from 1930 till 1957. Grandpa got hurt, so he couldn't do the work anymore, so he was trained to re sole shoes. Grandma and my one living aunt said she would wash the clothes till her fingers cracked open...the lye soap burned terribly...she wrapped tape or a cloth around her fingers, crying, and didn't stop till the clothes were hung up to dry. She washed cloths every day for 27 years. She wasn't alone, for sure, but I've used a wringer washer, but never washed but a couple items by hand. Grandma would be 117 now...she died in 1992, and my dad followed her in 1994 at age 57...he was the youngest of the 5. I am blessed I spent quite a bit if time with lots of my family...the stories, the love, and the hard work. I'm sure anybody whose family lived in the country or a farm did the same thing....hard work and sacrifice the newer generation would absolutely fail at.
Thank you❤ This made me stop and thank God for My Grandma Georgia! Your Big Mama had similar kitchen decor as my Grandmother's. That fork and spoon on the wall, that picture of "The Last Supper " brings back memories. She looks beautiful with her curly hair, pearls, and a pretty purple apron. I loved the video. If you are reading this, and your Grandma is still alive, go see her and love on her because her wisdom and presence is priceless.
i love the memories and the skill our grandmas and moms leave us with. As adults we realize how much we cherished the one and took for granted the other. Thank you for sharing this with us, I miss my big hungry family!!
Awww! That video was priceless! I wish my grandmother was still living, to make sweet memories like this. Those biscuits look delicious! Thank you for sharing.
Jocelyn, I just watched your video with Big Mama and her incredible biscuits! I just LOVE it! How wonderful this was!!! God bless your sweet grandmother!
These are Awesome Biscuits! I have shared this video before. I love you sharing videos with your family too. You were BLESSED to have such a good cook to learn from & I Love the fact that she used the can to cut her Biscuits. What a Great generation.
Thank You Big Mama for showing us the Mississippi way of making buttermilk biscuits. Im going make a batch today here in North Carolina. If I was there, love to give you a hug.
My mom told me about when my grandma (her mother-in-law) taught her how to make German dumplings. She never measured anything, but my mom made her measure size she could write it down. My mom has had enough practice now that even though she uses the recipe, she knows by touch when she needs to adjust it for more or less moisture.
Am no youngster but I still miss my Grandmother when we would visit I liked watching her make biscuits they were the best because her generation loved FAMILY and FOOD WAS A WAY TO SHOW LOVE ❤️
My Sweet Mother made biscuits this way. I will try to start back making my biscuits this way. This is similar to a science. One has to know this technic. BISCUITS ARE BEAUTIFUL, BIG MOMMA. I LOVE WATCHING THIS. MY MOMMA COOKED HER BISCUITS ON THE SAME TEMPERATURE. I WISH I HAD ME A BISCUIT, BIG MOMMA! LOVE THE MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND. THE MUSIC MAKES SENSE AND IT TELLS A TRUE STORY OF INNER PAIN, SUFFERING & HARDSHIP....
I just came across your video and her biscuits look so good. It reminds me of how my sister in law taught me how to make them. This was back in the 60's. The only difference of how she made them was, after she added the shorting and milk, she mixed and rolled the dough right in the bowl. Then she pinched off a piece rolled it in her hand, patted it one time and put it in the baking pan. Making biscuits like your grandmother does and sister in law takes some work, but it's well worth it, they are so good. There's nothing better then a homemade biscuit butter & jelly or even some gravy. 😊
I know I’m 9 years late. But I absolutely loved this video. I love to see the seasoned folks do their thang in the kitchen. Best memories of my childhood were in the kitchen while Grammy (dads mom) or Honey (mommies mom) cooked.
I'm from Gibsonville North Carolina. I grew up on a farm. We called my grandma Big Mama too! But she used her hands to make her biscuits but otherwise it's the same. God bless ya'll 🙏
I miss my grandma, she too can make some dam good biscuits, and don't forget the teacake. I'm so glad I found your cooking show. Thank you grandmother.😇😇😇😇😇
This brought back memories of my mother in law making biscuits. She made good biscuits and she made that caramel cake also like you did. I am from Greenwood Mississippi. Thanks for the memories.
Such a precious video. As I watched your grandmother working the dough with her hands, I could only imagine the countless meals (and acts of love) that her beautiful hands have performed for her family and many others all the days of her life. I know her to be a godly woman and I could discern her meekness of spirit. "Her children will rise up and call her blessed ... and her husband will be known at the gate among the elders" (paraphrasing Proverbs 31). Truly her price is ABOVE RUBIES. God bless your lovely grandmother and you too Babycakes. Thanks for honoring such a beautiful lady. ❤️✝️
Y'all are precious! Your aprons are beautiful. Reminds me of making biscuits with my Grandmother on Sunday afternoons after church. Thanks for sharing.
My Aunt Pet (Ophelia) would make her homemade biscuits every morning we would visit her and they were to dye for! i would try to watch her everytime she would make them to learn how she made them. When i would get back home i would try to duplicate how she did it but mine would look like hockey pucks and be tough. Love the grandaughter helping with grandmother
Oh man this is AWESOME! My mamaw lived in Batesville, up the road from Winona, and she made her biscuits just like this, except she always used lard. She made the every single day, rain or shine, whether she was sick or well. We would open them up, slather on some butter and then cover them with Karo corn syrup! Oh man! This really takes me back, thank you!
THANK YOU BIG MOMMA!!!!!!!!!!! I just made a batch and I think I gonna be sick. They taste just like my moms and I can’t wait to let her taste them she is gonna freak. Thanks for this video. God bless all the big mommas out there.
I love it. I'm a 1965 baby and all I could think of is my mom especially when she said , " junk laying around now put it in the sank and wash em😀. I find myself now saying the same to my grands. Thanks for sharing.

Love the production on this video, the humor and love shines through with the biscuits disappearing off the plate haha. That's you in the photo beside her in the chair and I suspect you've probably been by her side the whole time. Your grandma has a unique way of kneading the dough and it seems to come out more uniform than others I have seen ( and trust me I have just watched about fifty biscuit videos lol). It's natural to her after so many years I guess, I'm going to try and get that down when I make biscuits. Also others have said Crisco shortening makes the best biscuits, must be true :) Thanks for the video!
Love love your video, it bring back so many good memories of my Big Mama. My sister and I would visit her every summer and cried when it was time to leave.
Love this video my grand mother made biscuits just like this thanks for sharing.
