  • @daveb5041
    @daveb5041 7 лет назад +10

    I knew the glow plug did more then start the engine. The guy at the hobby store tried to tell me other wise. After you remove the current to the platinum coated filament the filament stays red hot because its catalyzing methanol. Instead of a spark you have a catalyst ignite the fuel when it reaches a certain pressure. Varying the glow plug can change the ignition timing of your engine. Anyway to film that with a high speed zoomed in camera? Or be able to send it to a "youtube'r" that can?

    • @Shadow0fd3ath24
      @Shadow0fd3ath24 5 лет назад

      That's why they call it a "glow plug". That guy is an idiot. How else would it create ignition if the engine wasnt keeping something small hot from combustion.

    • @autogolazzojr7950
      @autogolazzojr7950 5 лет назад +2

      @@Shadow0fd3ath24 He's probably confusing it with a diesel glow plug, which is just used as a starting aid. He's still an idiot in my book, because he's giving out wrong advice to customers.

    • @nitrogas5719
      @nitrogas5719 4 года назад

      Seth N. I don’t see how he is an idiot the platinum in the glow plug reacts with the methanol in the fuel, you can change the ignition timing by going to a hotter or colder plug, with a hotter plug it will burn the fuel earlier and with a cold plug it will burn later. I don’t see how this guy is an idiot too you

  • @imitt12
    @imitt12 7 лет назад

    Okay, in the future, you shouldn't use a grinding wheel for soft materials like plastic, aluminium, wood, etc., because the stone isn't designed for it. You should only use a grinding wheel for metal that sparks when it's ground (steel, iron, tungsten, etc.). A good belt sander removes material just as fast, if not faster.

    What exactly keeps the glow plug on and why do they fail

    • @tensevo

      glow plug initiates the compression ignition (diesel like) combustion process. Not to be confused with spark ignition.
      fail the same reasons any heating element fails. they are small and fragile elements.

    I understand the glow plug ignites when glow stick is applied, but what keeps the glow plug continuously ignited once the engine is running and the stick removed?

      compression ignition, like a diesel engine.
