    If you didn't know, this song is about playing hide&seek/tag with an ogre (oni-san) the backing tack is the growling of the Oni asking the girls if they are ready and their reply is "No, not yet". It's based on japanese lore where the Oni comes around to scare the kids (iirc). The rotating stage I believe is the Boudokan shows. If you saw Rondo of Nightmare with the kami band intro, thats is the same Boudokan show.

    Nice reaction, thanks!
    "Catch me if you can" is definitely on their heavier side musically but it also has some cute vocals and choreo which is a fan favorite. It was my very first BABYMETAL song and it got me hooked from the first moment.
    Enjoy the concert in Denver!! I'm just 5220 miles away from Denver so I have to go somewhere nearer to me... 😁

    Great reaction - and good on you getting your tickets for Denver, you will not regret it🦊 - and I hope someone will come and find you to say hello at least.🤘
    'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni 👹(a sort of Japanese ogre popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... which amuses me probably more than it should).
    The growling vocals (they are on a backing track) are the Oni👹 asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃‍♀🏃‍♀🏃‍♀👹
    The red shoes👠🩰 may be a reference to an old Japanese folk story (possibly an old song) about a child abducted by foreigners - or possibly a child given to an American missionary by her mother to hopefully cure her TB (this is a very sad tale as the mother imagined her daughter cured and living far away in American but she had died before the ship sailed). Or maybe wearing red shoes just makes you easier to find.
    This was a compilation video with clips from 10 different concerts from 2013 through to 2017. At least some of the audio was taken from their concert at Wembley Arena in 2016.
    There is a video from the live performance at Budokan , Black Night 2014 (with the spinning stage) that has subtitles if you want to watch that as well.

    It might be weird of me, but even though I know that I likely will never personally be able to attend a *BABYMETAL* concert before I die. It makes me so happy every time I hear that someone I watch on RUclips is going to one of their shows.🤘🏻😁 Just don't forget to vlog a bit. Just a little bit.

    The Oni represent a couple of things. One is a childhood game, where at a certain festival, the dad will dress up as an oni and come looking for naughty kids. The kids will banish the oni by throwing acorns at him. The other is a childhood story, The Red Ogre who Cried, where the main characters are Aka-oni-san and Ao-oni-san, (red ogre, blue ogre) who are mentioned in the song by name. The red shoes are a recurring theme with Babymetal, seem to be related to the Hans Christian Anderson story The Red Shoes, where a girl puts on a pair of red shoes and can't stop dancing.

    • @autohmae
      @autohmae Год назад

      I guess Red and Blue ogre are actually references to Namahage

    • @Wombatmetal
      @Wombatmetal Год назад

      @@autohmae I think the reference to Namahage is the chanting in the background. In a street festival, men will dress up as onis and knock on doors looking for crybabies and naughty kids.
      Red Ogre and Blue Ogre I think are proper names as they have honorifics. And as they're mentioned together and are best friends in the story, that's my guess

    This is a good compilation video, I think the audio comes from a Wembley, UK, 2016 concert because Ohmura throws in a phrase in his guitar solo from Hubert Parry's hymn "Jerusalem".
    "Catch Me If You Can" is about a Japanese playground game where the tagger is called the "oni-san" and asks if the kids are ready and Yui and Moa answer "no not yet" and their dance mimics running away. Oni are Japanese ogres or trolls that are sometimes used to scare young children into being good. Another interesting cultural reference in the lyrics is to it being dangerous "to go out in red shoes" which I think refers to a Japanese children's poem where a young girl wearing red shoes is taken away from her parents by foreigners. It was written in the early 20th century and probably expresses fear of the outsider and strangers. Part of what I enjoy about BM is discovering the cultural references...I think they have taught a lot of people a lot about Japan.

    ♪Red shoes, you shouldn't wear.
    Because they are dangerous.
    This lyrics are inspired by the famous Japanese nursery rhyme “Akai Kutsu(Red shoes)”(1922!!).
    Here are the first lyrics:
    ♪A little girl who wore red shoes
    She was taken along by a foreign stranger
    BABYMETAL’s lyrics are interspersed with unique Japanese culture and wordplay.

    The whole tag thing sure...but the creepy voice (the track doing the lows) kind of makes me think its some sort of demon hunting the girls down in some anime horror scene...Japan...lets not dismiss . Then when it screams found you and the kids freak out.
    Suzuka is trying to summon the...thing..with clapping.
    From GPT4:
    Yōkai (妖怪): Yōkai are a class of supernatural creatures found in Japanese folklore. They can be demons, spirits, or monsters, and their behavior ranges from malevolent to mischievous to benevolent. Clapping hands may sometimes be used to draw attention to oneself or to ward off a yōkai.
    Shintoism: In Shinto, the indigenous religion of Japan, clapping is a common practice during rituals and ceremonies. Known as "hakushu" (拍手), this action is performed twice, followed by a deep bow. Clapping is believed to cleanse the area of impurities, invite the presence of kami (gods and spirits), and ward off evil spirits.
    Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai (百物語怪談会): In this traditional Japanese game, participants gather in a darkened room and take turns telling ghost stories. After each story, the storyteller lights a candle, and participants clap their hands to dispel the darkness and any spirits that may have been attracted by the tale. The clapping serves as a way to ward off or repel these supernatural beings.
    Obon (お盆): Obon is a Japanese Buddhist festival that honors the spirits of ancestors. During this time, families clean their ancestors' graves and perform various rituals to welcome and appease the spirits. Clapping hands can be a part of the ritual to guide spirits to the family altar or to send them back to the spirit world.
    Or of course they could just be clapping in a fun little hide and seek game with a heavy smoker looking for them.
