The second Kagerou reaction of the day, nice! Love to hear this song. We got some great news and announcements from latest live concerts at BABYMETAL RETURNS The Other One live Makuhari Messe 2023, this year is gonna be awesome for BM fans, look for Flugelhorn, Minami Hideki and Michael M for more detailed info about what happened in those out of this world shows.
Jumping again onto last 3rd BabyMetal album you can clearly see their more mature side, our little girls becoming "super ladies" just make all of us proud. Moa-chan doing some of her new moves here and the swag on the girls.
Kagerou is one of their songs showing that mature side of BabyMetal on 3rd album "Metal Galaxy". Started as a SuMetal solo in 2018 but in 2019 during live at The Forum they showed up with full formation and one _avenger_ taking the place of third spot as a backup dancer, in that case was Riho Sayashi.
Fortunately we got another full original clip from Legend Metal Galaxy 2020, with Momoko Okazaki as the avenger, and with the blaster sound of Western Kami Band and that melting face intro. They are: Clint Tustin, CJ Masciantonio, Chris Kelly (all of them from Galactic Empire band) and Anthony Barone on drums, former Shadow Of Intent member and currently with his own projects. This was a live compilation from both shows i mentioned.

Their costume designer is Megumi Date. She's been working with them since their major debut.
Su and Moa have talked about presenting a more adult version of "Kawaii Metal" as they get older.
They often mentioned 'Elevator Girl', but I think this song is a better example.
They've also said that it took a while to get used to the more agressive Metal sound of their Western Kami Band.
IMO, this is the best pure rocker they've given Su since 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!'.
I've loved this one ever since it was a Su-metal solo song called 'Tattoo' on the 2018 tour.
The choreography is a lot of fun. Both Su's freestyling in the original version, and the living heat wave with Su, Moa + a support dancer that it is now.
Of course most folks were pretty happy to see "The Kamis From the West" with solos.
That was Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone on drums.
This compilation footage had both Momoko Okazaki and Riho Sayashi as supporting dancers.
And of course Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) as the core of BABYMETAL.

Kagerou has such a great groove. I love that song. Yes, you should watch the Babymetal guide. It's a good way to learn the back story of where they all came from and how it all came together. At least as much detail as any of us could possibly know.
Kagerou means "heat haze". On the song's context, it's being "blinded" by jealousy, to the point of asking if she's going crazy.
This was less Metal and more groove, but they still sound great. That's one of the cool things about BABYMETAL, there's so much variety in their music, but the quality is always top notch. And sometimes they even introduce me to new genres to love.

Great reaction. Good idea looking up the lyrics first - for most of their songs the choreo is related or intended to help with interpreting the meaning of the song or a specific lyric etc, so knowing the lyrics will give you a better idea of what to look out for or what they are doing.
As you have been told the Kami Band instrumental intros do not appear on the album versions of songs - they are live performance things only ... not so surprising if you remember the Kami Band do not record the album versions.
In this case this was the Kami Band of thre West, Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone on drums.
You can find at least a couple more Kami Band instrumental intros with live performances from the Budokan, Black Night in 2014 (both safe to use for reactions) with 'Rondo of Nightmare' and 'Catch Me If You Can'.
Also, yes do a reaction to Cryptic Misery's guide - use the longer one (its only 40 minutes or so) as it gives you a lot more detail and info the shorter video has to miss.

I admit not being a huge hard rock fan and I didn't noticed this song at first on the studio album version. But watching and listening the live performance and specially with those tasty solos made this song grow on me. Not to mention that Barone's drums sound incredibly good, the choreo is totally on point and the guitar and bass work is excellent.

Your pronunciation of "Kagerou" is almost perfect. It has 4 syllables like Ka-ge-ro-u [kɑ･gé･ro･ʊ]. This is a compilation from 3 concerts (2 in Japan + 1 in USA). Western Kami Band is great. And Anthony Barone is my favorite drummer now as well as Hideki. A female jazz pianist in Japan, she is a big BM fan, expressed the music by the American musicians as "hefty undulation".
Su is singing about jealousy against someone using a metaphor of heat haze, "Kagerou". The hash emotion is shimmering from her inner blaze, and it seems to me that her emotion will not erupt but turn into magma. It's scary😱 . This is the song featuring BM's heavy, dark and seductive side. The girls have grown up into ladies now without doubt.
BM's forthcoming 4th album will go in this direction with due maturity. 5 new songs played at Makuhari were beyond my imagination.
FYI : BM will officially return to trio with permanent 3rd member on April 1. Who is she? That is a question for every fan. 🤔

The solos are not on the studio albums, and that's one reason of many for why the live versions are almost universally agreed to be wayyy superior (that, and the crowds are absolutely lit at BM shows, which adds so much). That, and less overprocessing of their vocals compared to the studio albums.
The songs are higher quality live. But also everything you said too. It's like a completely different product.
@@Jordan-Ramses the way I see it: Babymetal albums are like listening to a movie soundtrack only without ever having seen the movie, a large part of the experience is missing.
@@autohmae it's not just that. The production quality is pretty low on the studio versions. The Kami Band is a lot better than the studio instruments. The vocals are not well produced either. The songs themselves are excellent imo. This is all imo obviously.
What I'm saying is if you got Suzuka Nakamoto in a studio with the Kami Band and a top music producer it would sound a lot better than most of the songs on their albums. The way they make music live is just superior to whatever it is they do in the studio. I can only assume drunken squirrels are involved.

@@autohmae true. The production is getting better. Some people say it's because the studio versions aren't organic. But you can have great production with synthetic music. I think you should give Onewe a go! They have just released an English album with one original song and English versions of their main songs. They are an idol band, not group, and I think the touch of soft rock they incorporate some times may appeal to you, as well as the lyrics (haven’t listened to the English versions yet, but the Korean ones are beautiful). Definitely not as rad as Babymetal, but I feel like they could be if they let them!
Babymetal always kill it, what a show. Fantastic to listen to and to see! I would attend one of their concerts in a heartbeat.
I am honestly surprised you haven't run across one of these intros before! They sadly don't do them very much anymore, and the two times we have gotten pro-shot footage of them, it's been the western Kami band that you saw here (which certainly isn't _bad_ - as you saw, they're great musicians). In 2017 and before they would do at least one intro like this at every show, usually before the song Catch Me If You Can. They also would do a slightly different instrumental intro before Rondo of Nightmare. If you're interested in seeing either of those, look for the performances at Budokan Black Night - they generally don't get blocked. Cheers!

Oh so this is the first time you saw an instrumental introduction! They used to do it much more in the past!
Other songs with intro are:
- Rondo of Nightmare, live at Budokan (2014) with mischief of the metal gods intro
- Catch me if you Can, live at Budokan (2014) with intro
- Awadama Fever
- Yava
Last 2 are more recent, so it's harder to find a version that doesn't get blocked! But there might be a compilation like this one of Kagerou!
We would love seeing a reaction to the guide, but before that, you should at least do "Babymetal Death" live at Legend 1997, otherwise you will get a major spoiler and ruin any possibile future reaction to that performance!

Nice reaction. While many have felt the overall song is about jealousy. I have often imagined that since this song is after Yui left. That at some point someone asked the question. Is this the end of Babymetal. And their reaction was you're crazy. Heat haze just from asking. They just lost Yui and Mikkio and now you want them to lose the very thing that brought them all together. Crazy is just what I imagined their response would be. Just another interpretation on the lyrics based on what was going on with them at the time. The dance routine is very much part of their new mature kawaii metal performance. This started the new era of Babymetal. Now with their new album due out in March and several songs being released before it comes out. We will be given more of their mature kawaii metal. So far, it's been as cool as this is. Babymetals future looks bright.

If you are going to watch Cryptic Misery's Guide to Babymetal don't shortchange yourselves by doing the short version. The 20ish minute gives you a bunch of facts but doesn't really flesh out the details. The 40-minute version gives you all the facts and provides a lot of context to them. It's a much better version. I figure that if you are going to invest 20 minutes, you may as well settle in for the full experience.
If you wanted to check out another awesome Japanese metal band, would you consider checking out a live performance of Mejibray's song "Kore wa izon to yobu nara"? They had incredible stage presence and the song is really amazing, and in my opinion the song is even better live than in recordings

Well zhere is considerable less dance behind this song. I think in this case they wanted to Show that can still Gatter Sakura Gakuin together . And they wanted to have Su and Moa wslk the "street" for the crawler, thst zhey endet in the metal of the stream, but they use their crawlers only in certain srenas in Japan. And I am not so sure if Su and Moa were really interestet in buying their crawler fro. Kobametal, BBymetal was probably not really cheap.

Suzuka’s vocals here are absolutely stunning in my opinion. Recommend ? Pretty much any Babymetal song is great, some just a little less great than others, based on personal preference.
The original BABYMETAL was a really great group but once Yui left the group, it destroyed it and it’ll never be the same. It should respectfully get rid of the group at this time.
