my musical goal in life is to someday see this production in Japan where they can go all out like this.

Same. I’ve loved all the BabyMetal shows I’ve been to here in the US. Overseas Kitsunes are great but, imo, there’s nothing like going to a BabyMetal show in Japan. One day….

The US shows are great but the ones in Japan look otherworldly.
Been to Japan six times in my life and not sure if I’ll ever make it back at this point, but man, it would be amazing to be able to see them on their home turf.

Dancing in the Dark 2 meters above a rotating stage, a 16yr old Suzuka sings of an Unending Nightmare of being chased by a FacelessTerror and Begging a Boon that it show Her Its Face just once before she dies.
    That's Metal.
    That's Babymetal!!
    Put your Kitusne UP!! Po!

Great reaction. As you saw, the Kami Band intro here is called 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods'. In order of solos - Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums). Its like they were doing a ritual summoning Su-metal from the depths of ... below stage.
There can't be many 16 year olds who could follow that intro and then just take over the whole stage and arena the way Su did as she danced on her tiny platform way up in the air, all lights on her (so seeing the edges of that platform can't have been easy either).
This was only the second time she had ever performed this song live - the first time was the night before.
This is possibly the darkest of their songs lyrically. Your understanding matches mine in that rondo is a musical term denoting a repeated theme - something like that anyway. Same as you, I believe they borrowed the term for the title of this song as Su is caught in a recurring nightmare, being chased through the darkness by something she can't see. Eventually she hides, but it is still coming closer. Knowing there is no escape she asks that if she is to die won't it at least reveal itself to her.

This my favourite performance of the song. Su just smashed it with the vocals and the Kamis got their moment to shine as well. It is hard to believe that this was only the second time the song was performed live! ❤🤘🦊🔥

Rondo Of Nightmare/With Mischief Of Metal Gods Intro @ (Nippon Budokan Black Night):-
This is one of 4 Su-Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) solo songs. The other 3 are:-
    1. "Amore" (Wembley Arena).
    2. "No Rain No Rainbow" (Legend A Baptism XX).
    3. "Akatsuki" (Same Venue, Nippon Budokan Black Night)
Rondo Of Nightmare/With Mischief Of God Intro:-
    Babymetal:-
Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese kawaii metal band, consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" (Vocal and Dance) and Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal" (Scream and Dance), Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" (Scream and Dance) left Babymetal in 2018 due to undisclosed health issues. The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances.
    KamiBand:-
"The KamiBand are the instrumentalists (or backing band) in BABYMETAL - Each member is a "god (Kami) of music" summoned by The Fox God stage by stage. All the Kamis have their own jobs and side-projects in addition to BABYMETAL".
Current Members Who Perform At Nippon Budokan:-
•Takayoshi Ohmura (Guitar, ESP SNAPPER-7/R Gold & Twinkle Pink).
•Leda Cygnus (Guitar, ESP BLUE CUSTOM).
    •Daisuke 'BOH' Bohte (Bass, ATELIER Z BETA 6, Boh'S CUSTOM 6).
•Aoyama Hideki (Drums, YAMAHA Signature Drum Kit).
BABYMETAL is the youngest act to perform at the Budokan and artists need to be invited to perform there.
Live at Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse (stylized as LIVE AT BUDOKAN ~RED NIGHT & BLACK NIGHT APOCALYPSE~) is the third live video release by the Japanese heavy metal band Babymetal. It contains two concerts performed at Nippon Budokan shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album, and was released on January 7, 2015 in a standard edition and a limited-edition box set exclusively for "The One" fanclub members.
    Nippon Budokan:-
Nippon Budokan (日本武道館, Nippon Budōkan), often shortened to simply Budokan, is an indoor arena located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. Originally built for the inaugural Olympic judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics, its name translates as Martial Arts Hall in English. While its primary purpose is to host martial arts contests, the arena has gained additional fame as one of the world's most iconic musical performance venues.
A number of famous rock music acts have played at Budokan. The Beatles were the first rock group to play there in a series of concerts held between June 30 and July 2, 1966. ABBA ended their last tour there. Their final show on March 27, 1980, was the last live concert ABBA performed together. Numerous acts have recorded live albums at Budokan, including Bryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Cheap Trick, Dream Theater, Duran Duran, Kiss, Mr. Big, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Journey and Deep Purple.

    Lyrics Overview:-
"Rondo Of Nightmare (悪夢の輪舞曲; Akumu No Rondo)"
    [Romaji:]
    Kaketa tsuki ga terashi dashita

    [English:]
The waning moon has lit up
the insanity rampant in the shade
    The laughter resounds around
It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam
    I can’t escape from it
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind
A nightmare rondo is being repeated
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight
I can do nothing but run
    through the darkness
In the woods, in the fountain
I hide myself holding my breath
but it’s still coming closer to me
A stagnant voice. An endless night
    Ah…
If I can no longer get out of here
won’t you show me your figure?
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind
A nightmare rondo is being repeated
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight
I can do nothing but fall
    into the darkness
This song Su-Metal brings you to the dark side and tells you a story thru the journey and it enticed you.

My favorite performance of my favorite Su-metal solo song. The staging of this was incredible. 16-year old Su-metal up on the platform waltzing to that heavy metal chorus while the band plays on the slowly rotating stage below gives the image of a music box dancer. And based on the IEM capture Su- comes in with that "scream" without pitch or timing cues. Made my many decades ago 16-year old self fall completely gobsmacked in love with Su-metal. 😲🤯🤩😍

Great reaction! This is one of the songs, along with "Akatsuki", that I heard early on in my BABYMETAL journey that solidified the fact that BABYMETAL was NOT a gimmick, that they were VERY serious about making metal music, and that they were more than just about being kawaii/cute. The structure of this song is just complex and beautiful!!!🤘🦊🤘

    Welcome back to the Foxhole.🦊🤘🔥
Really rare you didn't reacted to this one before guys.
As you can see this is not the usual happy BM song. Always glad to see you're back once again with another suggestion over a song composed by YuppeMetal (aka Yuyoyuppe), you already listened songs from him, he's also behind "Karate", Kagerou, the arrangements of Megitsune and more new songs from latest album like Monochrome and Believing.
"Akumu No Rondo" (or Rondo Of Nightmare) combines not only heaviness with dark waltz and dope time signatures changes but also delicate and fragile elegance that makes you want to grab your inception kit and go to rescue this 16 yo queen from this nightmare.
Temporarily title song was "Kill The Alice" so it is like Alice but instead of Wonderland she's trapped in a nightmare trying to escape and avoid some evil entity.
Rondo is a musical form in which you can hear a repetitive pattern, an example of this could be the song "Blue Rondo a la Turk".
The Kami Band is doing their second magnificent intro of the night with their own set called "Mischiefs Of Metal Gods". They become regular after this special live at Budokan 2014 and leaving baby-bones, from early shows, behind, shout-out to them thou.
You already know some of them from your previous reaction, such Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums, this time Leda Cygnus is the first guitar.
This was the day (night) after the first live premiere of this song and she's dancing and performing like she already did a dozen times before, like a pro. Also she's showing some fierceness here dancing on that high dangerous mini stage with no wire and that's how she keeps winning everyone's heart.
But not everything was perfect here despite their impeccable performance and sound, and the day before the girls face that dangerous challenge on the stage, taking their own revenge after coming back in 2021 to celebrate their 10 years and leaving those ghosts behind, fortunately.
Like i said, YuppeMetal is the one behind this song and he took inspiration from "Protest The Hero - Bloodmeat" song, of course i recommend you to hear that blaster song.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful SuMetal solo and my favorite along with "Akatsuki" (live at Budokan 2014 is another great choice) The other solos are great too and, in case you didn't, those are:
    - No Rain No Rainbow live at Legend S 2017, heavily blocked thou.
    - Amore live at Wembley Arena 2016.
And of course the rest of the girls under "Black Babymetal" are enjoyable too, they're taking a break here while SuMetal is performing to come back later, so don't miss out on their other 4 songs too such:
    - "Onedari Daisakusen" live at Legend 1997, Gans Tomas got that clip safe to react.
    - "Song 4" or "4 No Uta" live at Budokan 2014.
    - "GJ!" live at Wembley Arena 2016
    - "Sis Anger" live at Tokyo Dome 2016".
Kitsune up and see you next time.🦊🤘🔥

Hell yes! I love this song and performance. One thing easily missed: the lighting as well. I love the “light cage” imprisoning Su during the marionette portion as she gives in and gets caught by the nightmare.
Another Su-metal solo suggestion: Akatsuki (Budokan 2014) and Amore, both are epic, and while no band intros, both does feature instrumental duets.

Sugoi! Excellent reaction. Also, "Rondo" refers to the musical style of the song.
As per Wikipedia: "In rondo form, a principal theme (sometimes called the "refrain") alternates with one or more contrasting themes, generally called "episodes", but also occasionally referred to as "digressions" or "couplets". Possible patterns in the Classical period include: ABA, ABACA, or ABACABA."

Also, what do you find more impressive, Su-metal's beautiful, haunting vocals 2-3 meters above a rotating stage, the KAMI Band's display of virtuosity, or that Moametal and Yuimetal were below stage working on their homework assignments?

I would argue it was less than 2 meters if you're going by her feet are, but then about 3 meters if you mean her perception is. Also, is that true that Moa & Yui were doing homework under the stage at that moment? Talk about multitasking!

Great reaction! Not sure, but I believe that you enjoyed this one. 😁
And I can't blame you for that, cause this is a top tier performance. One of my favorites to be honest.
"Rondo of Nightmare" is probably their darkest song lyrically. It's about Su being trapped into an endless nightmare, without any chance to escape, where she's chased by a dark entity as she tries to run away and hide. Finally she asks the entity to reveal its real nature before giving up.
This was just the second time they performed it live (the first one was just the previous night at the same venue) and Su-metal, being 16 at the time, was standing by herself on a relatively small and elevated platform, without any safety and probably not being able so see a thing due to the spotlight. This is so freaking metal!
And yes, as you found out, the "rondo" refers to the musical refrain form. The typical feature of any rondo is the return to the main theme after each digression giving the song a dark feeling of moving in circles without any possible way out. One of the best known rondos is Beethoven's "Für Elise".
    Until next time!

    ⚡ / 🔥 😱 🔥
That was a sixteen year old Su-metal.
She premiered the song the night before, at Budokan Red Night on March 1st, 2014.
Rondo is easily in my top ten BABYMETAL songs.
Su performed three solos that night.
She did 'No Rain, No Rainbow', followed by 'Akatsuki' earlier in the set.
Yui and Moa (as Black BABYMETAL) did two songs without Su that night ('4 no Uta' and 'Onedari Daisakusen'), and of course they performed a bunch of songs together.
That Black Night Budokan concert is still one of my favorite BABYMETAL concerts.
Not only is Su brave enough to sing and dance on a tiny elevated platform in the dark, but she also has the confidence to follow those blistering Kami Band solos.
    That's real courage. : )

Kamiband : We're gonna blow your minds with our awesome solos!
Sumetal : Hold my matcha latte....
Love watching Hideki in this, when they pan to him in the beginning, he looks like he's just casually drumming and not responsible for the pounding in the solo. Most singers might get intimidated having to follow the spectacular performance by the Kamiband, but 16yr old Su just gets up there, and shows you why Babymetal was built around her. 🤘🦊🤘

Okay so you've now witnessed some babymetal. Let's go back ten years when they were still tweens. Basically two of them still kids. Start with the show opener- Babymetal death from the 2013 live concert called Legend 1997 (the year SuMetal was born) this song was always at the beginning of their concert. So you aren't going to get a lot of singing. They will be introducing who they are. B..A..B..Y..M..E..T..A..L.. and each one introducing themselves. If you're a Christian you might get a little bothered, there's crucifixion involved. Babymetal Death is about the rebirth from their previous selves to become Metal Godesses. Just roll with it. After that watch Headbanger from the same concert (Legend 1997). How they command the crowd, the crowd participation, etc.. Imagine Sumetal was 16 years old at the time (referred to now as The Queen) and YuiMetal and MoaMetal were just 14. Just kids and they were Generals commanding! Amazing. The band was the legendary Kami band from the east. From the same concert watch Road of Resistance the last song they play at this concert. Very anthemic and positive! Their message basically, never give up! Crowd participation in this when all instruments stop and the crowd goes on gives you chill bumps and may make you emotional! Kitsune up! 🦊

There is another live version of this with the first guitarist of Mikio R.I.P. (different one from this, and was actually a guitar teacher of the second guitarist Ohmura) His play is more intense and innovative than this. But I believe this one is totally awesome and superb production as one of the pinnacles of metal music history. Thank you for reacting to this! I always enjoy your reactions.

The song is an allegory of fighting depression and finally loosing the fight. Imo it's one of the deepest and best BM songs. It was released shortly after Yui left the band for "undisclosed health issues". I suppose (?) it's a homage to her. Check the visuals under this aspect:
-- The Kami Band (= kamis are the spirits of deceased persons on their way to eternity) does not play in the dark background, but encircle Sue
-- Sue (the soul) hovering on the platform in the air, so not standing on solid, sain ground
-- the flames as a symbol of the poor soul which fights depression
-- the cage formed by the spotlights which Su, the soul, can't escape
-- until she finally becomes a marionette, still alive, but incapable to make her own decisions.

Even if you think of the classic Kami Band lineup as Mikio Fujioka, Takayoshi Ohmura, BOH, and Hideki Aoyama, not a single one of those great musicians was part of the original Kami Band.
They were Hiroki Arai and Shiren on guitars, RYO on bass and SHIN on drums.

I don’t really think it’s fair to compare Kami members. There has been many who has taken up the the identity of the Kami Band. All have done a great job backing BabyMetal. Yes, everyone has their favorites. But comparing members is as unfair as people comparing Momoko to Yui. Someone could say Barone is vastly superior to Hideki if you watch what Barone has done in the past. But I’d push back on that opinion too. Both are great in what they do.
Lastly, you notice that Mikio isn’t part of this performance. By your reasoning this lineup is better without Mikio.
