Yeah 40i was not much different from m50 for regular person (not sure about new M60) plus the gas mileage on 40i is awesome! Performance is really not necessary in family SUV and rather go for comfort with smaller wheels (great ride quality)
@@bryandsouza9905 I always want a bigger engine. That said, the B58 is stellar and the 375/398 (HP/Tqe) is pretty darn fun. Plus you can always tune it after warranty expires to get much, much more. Very little to complain about with the 40i.

Pretty sure the cooling components are not the same so tuning it to high HP not only voids warranty but is also not supported as it is for the X5 M. Not to mention that body roll.
@ the cooling components on the M60 are upgraded from factory, tuning does not always void warranty because if you do it right there's no issues tapping into extra HP safely, its been done since the 2018 when the N63T2 was released then N63T3 in 2020 and now S68 for the M60. BMW's over-engineers their motors especially their Top of the Creme. Body roll is fixed with the Dynamic Handling Package or the Adaptive M-suspenson "PRO" found in the V8 models.

If you have the updated X3 M40i with 382hp, they run very similar 1/4 mile times. The X3 is even quicker off idle when you floor it. It has a different powerband rather than the V8, so you'll feel the main power in the mid high rpm range, whereas the M50i is more focused on low-mid range power.

I have just ordered the 2025 X5 m40i and i test drove it 3 times, comparing it to the m60i.. in my opinion I don't think the m60i performance justify the price/reliability/fuel-con vs 40i. B58 engine is a beast i would not need more Power especially for an SUV. Unless you really love the exhaust sound u get with M60i.
The 40i has a 0-60 in under 5 seconds (per C/D) which is very quick for an SUV. But if that’s not enough for your needs, then go with the M60i. Other than that, they’re basically the same. A similarly-specified 40i with the same M Sport options as the M60i is about $16K less. What that $16K buys you, other than a 3.9 second 0-60 time, is S68 bragging rights, a sportier exhaust note, and a couple of M badges.
With m rear diff and upgraded suspension plus a few other goods but if that’s not what a persons looking for keep the saving as both are awesome vehicles 👍
It also gives you the option of the Bowers and Wilkins diamond stereo. I wish BMW hadn’t shifted all of their top tier stereos to the M models. I’d rather have a more plush ride *and * the BW Diamond system.
Great review Anthony. The m60i is the hands down choice for sure. That exhaust note and the growl of the engine are just amazing. My X5 had the non turbo 6 and it was slow I did not have the extra 10 grand for the 8. We only hit 101 here but we are going to have what's looking like a really nasty heatwave. It looked like some rain was coming on your side and I hope that you are doing great!
My brother bought the m50i right before the m60i came out which I tell all my friends and family talk to me before you buy lol. I would go m60i but it’s expensive 😁. It was 96 today and the rain came around 4pm but not as much as yesterday. For the rest of the week the weather looks cooler and rainy. Hopefully it cools down for you guys that is hot. I own a G80 M4 comp and a 2024 X5 M60i. My wife has the X7 40I and there is a big difference in the performance, but you really cant go wrong with the X5 40i for that money. Only thing better than the X5 M60i is the Cayenne GTS that is about to release, but thats another $35k.
Does the 40i here have M Sport Diff option ? I am current owner of 2020 X7 M50i with DAP and Rear Axle Air Suspension + IAS... 55k miles for those that think the N63T3 (came in 2020+ ) is not reliable you guys have no clue what you're talking about. Been owning bmw's since 2015 (N20, N55, S55, S63T4, S58-1, S58-2) and N63T3, never owned a B58 because for the same price i got the Big Brother.
G80 m3 owner. I daily drive a 5th gen 4 runner . Most x5 drivers seem to drive pretty slow. Whether you have the v8 or inline 6 if you drive like a grandma it doesn’t really matter. Be realistic save some money . If money is no option and you want to brag about your horsepower that is an option. Seems to me most people with fast cars very rarely drive fast . More times than not the slowest drivers on the road . Usually the dude in the honda civic flying .
I drive slower because I have no need to race knowing I’m faster so I drive it hard by myself. This way I don’t have to worry about the other vehicle or Honda hit me 😁. No need to prove anything as I enjoy my vehicle on corners and long drives.
@ I’m all for people driving at their speed. However on the highway just get over… I will be out of your life shortly . Rather than the person getting prideful and creating traffic. I also see a lot more people driving slow that are way more dangerous on the road than the guy speeding. Sure there are reckless drivers which is ridiculous. The M60's hot V engine is a ticking time bomb to start burning oil and causing other problems due to all the heat. If I were leasing, the m60i... if I'm buying, the xdrive40i all day (the b58 engine is just way more reliable).
Me too..just had a choice between a 22 X6 M50 with 30k miles or a 24 X4 M40 with 13 miles 😮..both $69k...the B58 will give me yrs of worry free fun..but damn that V8 was sweet..chose the x4
I have a 2023 X4 M4OI it came with a service agreement. The last service they gave me a X5 40i. On paper, my X4 had 7 more horsepower on paper. Under my foot, there's a major difference in acceleration.

Because the x5 had the m sport it was very close. If you option it more base the xdrive is smoother but not by much as BMW is normally a sporty luxury drive.
Great review. Wish they still made the five series sedan version of the M60i that they sold 2018 and a few years after. Make me one with conventional gauge cluster and infotainment controls instead of the goofy screens and some reasonably sized wheels that can survive urban roads (20 in, 19in better) with non run flats, and I will be glad to sign up.
Maintenance is about the same and gas consumption just depends on how much you’re racing. My family has an M50i and when driving regular we’re getting over 20 MPG‘s combined 👍

What are you going to with the extra hp? I don’t live near a race track and I value keeping my drivers license. The 40i is actually plenty quick for “real world” driving. That’s opposed to delusional world driving. Beam me over to the autobahn Scottie!
@@HawkeyeRidesyes same engine, but handling is different universe. I tried both M60i and X5M and it is not even close. X5M is very stiff but handling is perfect, does not feel like a heavy SUV. Price-wise I cannot justify paying premium for M60i which is not a real M car, product of marketing
@vladovsiannikov1059 I have a comparison between the two, finishing up the edits and from driving all of them for a few years now I didn’t see that much of a difference beside it being the most firm ride and the seats are not as soft. The Corning is so close but because of the extra power off the line, you feel it but it’s a huge price gap for little difference which I don’t think anyone will ever use on a track.
How on earth a tall man like yourself and with family, would go with X5 over X7 when second row space is almost null??? It is an unusable vehicle for more than 2 if you have children in their child seats. A passat for example has double the leg room in the back
@HawkeyeRides I have the same height, two children of 5 and 11 and my 5 years old boy sits behind me with his feet on the back of the seat. It is exactly a palm between backrest of the seat and the bench . I m very upset because I really like the X5 . For comparison the GLE has 10 (TEN!!) cm more legroom than X5. Thanks for replying me.
@@donwilber1628 no you're not. I had 2 X5 at extensive drive test for over a week in total. Also a X7 for two days. The difference is massive. Also, the x7 seemed to brake more linear and the auto braking system(adaptive driving) was more intuitive. Also, the X7 is a quieter car. Both have issues with seats sat because they give arse pain, even though they had comfort plus seats and both X7 and X5 have issues with aircon. just my 2 cents
Got the 40i and passed on the m60i despite the V8 to save money and 40i was fast enough for me.

I traded my M4 comp in for the 2025 BMWX5 60i. Don't make me regret it BMW! Plus I needed something that I could drive in the rain,snow,sleet,hail.

That’s a tough call but I have the N63 M50I and an x3M40i and that V8 is pretty dang sweet and the B58 felt great before I got the M50I

@ The B58 doesn't fall off of top. It's a high revving engine... The V8 tops of around 6000-6500 rpm.

From the x4m40i yes it is a major difference as well as the x5 base. The x5m60i is a v8 twin turbo with over 500hp the others are under 400hp 👍

No more third row, I state it in the review, the m50i uses the n63 engine and the m60i uses the m engine s68 which includes a mild hybrid.
Yea but the m60 fuel consumption will be a lot more than the 40i including maintenance fees

Unless your driver and back seat passenger are 7' tall, you'll still have plenty of room in both the front and back.
