But he did not need a complete 180 redemption that he did not earn or need, his feud, and relationship with Kakashi is compelling if he died in Kakashi's arms Vader Luke style, sure fine. But forcing a situation where Obito switches sides and Naruto forgives him as easily as fuckface Sasuke is stupid.

listen. i finished the naruto manga. i didn't enjoy the last few years, but i'm glad i did it. because now i can come down from the mountain with the stone tablets for all of you, and inform that yamato, a major character who was being used as a monster factory to produce the white zetsus that obito used for his army, was kidnapped at the start of the ninja war and was just never rescued. he appears in the epilogue unharmed, but the series literally forgot he existed and nobody ever saved him.
he's not only not in chains, he's continuing his experiments. the albino kid on boruto's team is orochimaru's test tube baby, and orochimaru is wearing a new skinsuit when we see him, meaning he's still doing his body-snatcher/immortality thing.
Fuck that, he could still potentially escape confinement. Set the dude on fire with Amaterasu, trap him inside the Kamui, and leave him in that pocket dimension, writhing in flames for 15 years then bring the corpse out and disintegrate it on the molecular level Tsuchikage style. With how many times Orochimaru has survived deadly attacks, I say take no fuckin chances with that creep.
I think my biggest problem with this show is how everything needs to be a parallel to Naruto's own life, or else he won't be able to relate to it. From about 90% of the antagonists, to a handful of side characters, everyone needs to have had a sad childhood, or have been mistreated, or have experienced loss, or all three at once. And when that happens, all the horrible shit you've done regardless of context or impact just gets swept under the rug. Who cares that you started Ninja ISIS and hunted people down like animals because they had demons sealed inside of them, all because your friend died? It's fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.

The entire first half of series has that idea caked into almost every crevase. The problem isn't that one of these ideas(hard work and bonds) isn't a main focus, it's that one basically cannibalizes the other to the tune of very poor conceived plotting, kneecapping one message of the series to the point of contradiction and overstating the other to the point of ridiculousness. So yes, you are right, bonds and friendship are a core part of the series, but they are done very poorly and at the expense of the other core theme that IS hard work and determination.

Unending serial stories either become sitcoms over time like Dragon Ball, or begin falling in on themselves by straining their premise and cannibalizing their own themes and history to keep chugging along.
It's not just Chinese cartoons that do this. Any serious-toned TV show that outlives its freshness ends up this way. Examples include X-Files and Supernatural.

Letting Sasuke, the guy who tried to murder the war criminal world leaders go is one thing. But letting Orochimaru, the man who created factories to produce children so he could hollow out said children in order to always be young just run around with your children is another thing.
And it's sad because you are super right. If Might Guy would have beat Madara and ended everything for everybody, he would have been the living proof that the initial message of the series was right and that hard work and tenacity surpasses any and all birthrights. Sure some people would be upset, but I think having that one change would probably have Naruto seen as a flawed masterpiece, because Kishimoto would have spent over a decade building up all these prophecies and birthrights only to knock it all down at the end to reinforce the original message of the manga. It would have been seen as a stroke of genius for some people.

HALLELUJAH, THANK YOU GOD!" then he turns himself into a nuke and tries to atomize sasuke. him being revived as an edo tensei only has him going "i'm alive again? and also immortal? fucking sick, that means i can turn into a nuke as many times as i want!" every other villain gets watered down into utter nothingness, madara's only notable because of his power, obito apparently did nothing wrong and kaguya's personality consists of the traits "aloof" and "is a space rabbit". at least deidara stood for something and fought for his art to the end.

For the most part what was said about the justification syndrome was on point however the Akatsuki did have some proper just evil assholes. The core problem with Naruto is that the, "Hard work beats everything." concept only works out when the talented people aren't working out just as hard the whole time. Also he gets forgotten because he was the start of the mess that was the Ninja war, but Kabuto and in turn Orochimaru are the embodiment of the flaw. They're literally the people working hard and trying to steal away the special people's powers and making their own, and he gets pretty damn close to succeeding only to get overshadowed and forgotten because of the TRUE MOST SPECIAL.
The fact that there are awesome characters that were exceptions to the Evil Is Genetic rule, and My Nakama Give Me Strength rule, that are swept under the rug is just as frustrating.

One of the things the series never brings up and I'm honestly surprised it doesn't because it probably would have been one hell of a Character moment... How come Rin never got revived during the Ninja War? I could see Obito telling Kabuto not to do it, but if Obito outright knows the technique how come he never did it before hand even during an period of intense grief. The dead can revive with full consciousness/identity in this series and at one point Madara outright gets fully revived so why not just do that for Rin... it doesn't even have to be something that "fixes" Obito, it could have even been a greater catalyst for his insanity, having the "real Rin" call him out on his bullshit and he just reject the truth being unable to overcome his emotions of revenge thinking Rin's pleas of desperation were just that of a naive child.Just saying the whole "death" aspect of the series seems inconsequential when sentient zombies are a known thing. Then again it's kind of sad that as outside of I think the one time Zabuza re-fought Kakashi and Garaa meeting his father, this whole revival of the dead barely had any character moments (excusing anime filler of course).
Because I think the idea was that Obito didn't even care about Rin at that point in the story. Her death was basically just the catalyst to "Welp, gotta trap everyone in the Gurren Lagann dream dimension now"
TO THIS DAY I don't understand why kishimoto changed madara for kaguya as the final big threat.It was a perfect way to end up the series.Madara uchiha was the character that saved the final arc of shippuden and that's what kept me going to the end.
One of the main issues with Naruto is that outside of all of the wacky bullshit with aliens and chosen ones and stuff, you know things that you wouldn't expect to be in any series like this since there's no setup to it, the story is incredibly predictable. Everyone knew Tobi was Obito as soon as they saw his sharigan, everyone knew the series would end with Naruto fighting and beating Sasuke because of how the first half ended and that wouldn't be so bad if the story didn't drag out getting to those points. Naruto reeks of a story where the publisher artificially dragged it out to wring as much money out of it as possible, so Kishimoto had to keep adding new elements and trying to tie them in to things that were actually supposed to happen to the point that it became over-bloated and burnt him out so when he was finally given the okay to end the series, he gave up on the story entirely did the Naruto/Sasuke fight and cut out. I'd honestly not be surprised if we found out Kishimoto made a deal where he could end Naruto so long as he set-up suspiciously similar children of the main characters to make into a spin-off he wouldn't have to work on.
It also doesn’t help that attack on titan doesn’t have the dragging out problem naruto did because that author was smart and thought in advance also the anime doesn’t really have filler because they take breaks let the manga catch up etc

Madara has been underground for years wakes up suddenly knows every goddamn technique developed while he was underground because he was getting juiced.
As someone who has only experienced Naruto by being told about it, it really sounds like the creator uses good ideas as training wheels then teaches himself to use the mediocrecycle.
Naruto part 1 is similar to My Hero Academia or Harry Potter in its academy setting and school-like plot. The problem is, the story then dissolves into rivalry between two characters who are the be all and end all of the franchise. At in least MHA and HP it’s not a Midoriya and Bakugo or Harry and Draco fighting it out as the centre of the universe.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Naruto would’ve been better if Rock Lee were the main character and it was about him getting around all the other character’s nonsense.
There's a LOT of things that could've made Naruto better. Kishimoto going with his original premise of Naruto being the Kyuubi's son, making the village's distain for him actually make sense. Kishimoto actually being able to write romance in the slightest, making Sakura not a complete waste of time and space. Kishimoto having a plan for the series passed the Wave arc besides "I WANT NARUTO AND SASUKE TO FIGHT, AND SOME KAIJU FIGHTS TOO," So people get the real thematic point of overcoming differences, and not hard work overcoming genetics, which he pulled right out of his ass... Seeing a common thread here.
I remember reading a proposal for a fix to the Ninja War that would've made it somewhat more interesting. First, no Obito or Madara. Tobi is just some dude from one of the smaller villages that worked his ass off to achieve his level of power. He unites the lower villages under the banner of being fed up of dealing with the 5 greater villages' shit and having to clean up after their devestation with no help from them. So that would mean no white Zetsu army, no Edo Tensei, no moon princess aliens. Naruto has to fight and kill people who are wholly justified in their anger and conviction. It's not perfect, but I like it so much more than what we got.

big detail that woolie is missing here: Kaguya does not just show up. When Obito tries to hand-stab Madara, Black Zetsu forcefully turns Madara into Kaguya and therefore reincarnating her ala Orochimaru with his curse mark shit. Madara is effectively deleted from the story moving forward.
Which reminds me, did Sasuke's grandparents really need to die? They probably didn't have Sharingan, were non-combatants, and weren't having kids anytime soon. There's literally no downside to not killing them and given how rare Sharingan is supposed to be in the Uchiha, there are probably others in the clan who fit that description.

Naruto was unironically never about hard work always paying off and just being all you need, even in the Chuunin Exam. People just saw Rock Lee and assumed it was in spite of him getting clapped by Gaara, the dude who literally stands still and lets his innate Sand powers take the wheel despite his hard work like an hour later. It's that whole "okay but what do you do when the genius is also working hard on top of his natural ability when you have none" shit, it's why Sasuke hit weightless Lee level taijutsu in like a month of training. It's like people forgot what the Land of Waves arc was about.
They couldn't kill Madara because he had all that shit going for him and also knew how to use it. Black Zetsu ganked him by surprise in a way that doesn't really make sense so he could revive Kaguya using Madara as a sacrifice. The good guys were able to beat Kaguya because she was insane and had no idea how to do shit about fuck and was just throwing ass loads of power around. Madara was a super soldier, Kaguya was just a monster. It's all shit.
The only person who id say didnt get redemption and likely wasnt manipulated by madara was Hidan. But hes stuck in a hole forever I guess just forget about the imortal guy

I think my biggest problem with this show is how everything needs to be a parallel to Naruto's own life, or else he won't be able to relate to it. From about 90% of the antagonists, to a handful of side characters, everyone needs to have had a sad childhood, or have been mistreated, or have experienced loss, or all three at once. And when that happens, all the horrible shit you've done regardless of context or impact just gets swept under the rug. Who cares that you started Ninja ISIS and hunted people down like animals because they had demons sealed inside of them, all because your friend died? It's fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.
What's extra bullshit, is how Naruto could've flipped the script on them and call them out on their flimsy excuses. He could've said "This village was treating me like crap ever since I first rode that swing, and I'm still doing the right thing, what your FUCKING excuse!?"

The entire first half of series has that idea caked into almost every crevase. The problem isn't that one of these ideas(hard work and bonds) isn't a main focus, it's that one basically cannibalizes the other to the tune of very poor conceived plotting, kneecapping one message of the series to the point of contradiction and overstating the other to the point of ridiculousness.
So yes, you are right, bonds and friendship are a core part of the series, but they are done very poorly and at the expense of the other core theme that IS hard work and determination.

That's the actual reason why Naruto is barely at home in the sequel. The moment Hinata found out what he said the nights became a lot colder.
Letting Sasuke, the guy who tried to murder the war criminal world leaders go is one thing.
But letting Orochimaru, the man who created factories to produce children so he could hollow out said children in order to always be young just run around with your children is another thing.
And Naruto invited Orochimaru to his wedding. That blows my F'N mind.
And it's sad because you are super right. If Might Guy would have beat Madara and ended everything for everybody, he would have been the living proof that the initial message of the series was right and that hard work and tenacity surpasses any and all birthrights. Sure some people would be upset, but I think having that one change would probably have Naruto seen as a flawed masterpiece, because Kishimoto would have spent over a decade building up all these prophecies and birthrights only to knock it all down at the end to reinforce the original message of the manga. It would have been seen as a stroke of genius for some people.
For all the many many problems with Naruto, I'm happy that it gave us the Hyuuga Eugenics Plan and the Madara Copypasta. That makes it all worth it.

The core problem with Naruto is that the, "Hard work beats everything." concept only works out when the talented people aren't working out just as hard the whole time. Also he gets forgotten because he was the start of the mess that was the Ninja war, but Kabuto and in turn Orochimaru are the embodiment of the flaw. They're literally the people working hard and trying to steal away the special people's powers and making their own, and he gets pretty damn close to succeeding only to get overshadowed and forgotten because of the TRUE MOST SPECIAL.

One of the things the series never brings up and I'm honestly surprised it doesn't because it probably would have been one hell of a Character moment... How come Rin never got revived during the Ninja War? I could see Obito telling Kabuto not to do it, but if Obito outright knows the technique how come he never did it before hand even during an period of intense grief. The dead can revive with full consciousness/identity in this series and at one point Madara outright gets fully revived so why not just do that for Rin... it doesn't even have to be something that "fixes" Obito, it could have even been a greater catalyst for his insanity, having the "real Rin" call him out on his bullshit and he just reject the truth being unable to overcome his emotions of revenge thinking Rin's pleas of desperation were just that of a naive child.Just saying the whole "death" aspect of the series seems inconsequential when sentient zombies are a known thing. Then again it's kind of sad that as outside of I think the one time Zabuza re-fought Kakashi and Garaa meeting his father, this whole revival of the dead barely had any character moments (excusing anime filler of course).

One of the main issues with Naruto is that outside of all of the wacky bullshit with aliens and chosen ones and stuff, you know things that you wouldn't expect to be in any series like this since there's no setup to it, the story is incredibly predictable. Everyone knew Tobi was Obito as soon as they saw his sharigan, everyone knew the series would end with Naruto fighting and beating Sasuke because of how the first half ended and that wouldn't be so bad if the story didn't drag out getting to those points. Naruto reeks of a story where the publisher artificially dragged it out to wring as much money out of it as possible, so Kishimoto had to keep adding new elements and trying to tie them in to things that were actually supposed to happen to the point that it became over-bloated and burnt him out so when he was finally given the okay to end the series, he gave up on the story entirely did the Naruto/Sasuke fight and cut out. I'd honestly not be surprised if we found out Kishimoto made a deal where he could end Naruto so long as he set-up suspiciously similar children of the main characters to make into a spin-off he wouldn't have to work on.
It also doesn’t help that attack on titan doesn’t have the dragging out problem naruto did because that author was smart and thought in advance also the anime doesn’t really have filler because they take breaks let the manga catch up etc

As someone who has only experienced Naruto by being told about it, it really sounds like the creator uses good ideas as training wheels then teaches himself to use the mediocrecycle.
Naruto part 1 is similar to My Hero Academia or Harry Potter in its academy setting and school-like plot. The problem is, the story then dissolves into rivalry between two characters who are the be all and end all of the franchise.
At in least MHA and HP it’s not a Midoriya and Bakugo or Harry and Draco fighting it out as the centre of the universe.
Obito's "redemption" is by far one of the dumbest things I had the pleasure of reading.

There's a LOT of things that could've made Naruto better. Kishimoto going with his original premise of Naruto being the Kyuubi's son, making the village's distain for him actually make sense. Kishimoto actually being able to write romance in the slightest, making Sakura not a complete waste of time and space. Kishimoto having a plan for the series passed the Wave arc besides "I WANT NARUTO AND SASUKE TO FIGHT, AND SOME KAIJU FIGHTS TOO," So people get the real thematic point of overcoming differences, and not hard work overcoming genetics, which he pulled right out of his ass...
Seeing a common thread here.
It's truly sad, every kid outside the main trio is objectively better in every way.

I remember reading a proposal for a fix to the Ninja War that would've made it somewhat more interesting. First, no Obito or Madara. Tobi is just some dude from one of the smaller villages that worked his ass off to achieve his level of power. He unites the lower villages under the banner of being fed up of dealing with the 5 greater villages' shit and having to clean up after their devestation with no help from them. So that would mean no white Zetsu army, no Edo Tensei, no moon princess aliens. Naruto has to fight and kill people who are wholly justified in their anger and conviction.
It's not perfect, but I like it so much more than what we got.
That's what it should've been, but no, Kishi had to make it about parallels and the cycle of hatred bullshit.

When Obito tries to hand-stab Madara, Black Zetsu forcefully turns Madara into Kaguya and therefore reincarnating her ala Orochimaru with his curse mark shit.
Madara is effectively deleted from the story moving forward.
Did Orochimaru ever say any anything on that?

Which reminds me, did Sasuke's grandparents really need to die? They probably didn't have Sharingan, were non-combatants, and weren't having kids anytime soon. There's literally no downside to not killing them and given how rare Sharingan is supposed to be in the Uchiha, there are probably others in the clan who fit that description.
If u go by the early canon like 90 percent of the clan shouldnt have been killed

Ouch, that's a bit harsh even for Naruto. At least the manga ended with a cool fight (no matter how contrived it was). The same couldn't be said about RoS. The whole finale was just a wet fart.

Naruto was unironically never about hard work always paying off and just being all you need, even in the Chuunin Exam. People just saw Rock Lee and assumed it was in spite of him getting clapped by Gaara, the dude who literally stands still and lets his innate Sand powers take the wheel despite his hard work like an hour later. It's that whole "okay but what do you do when the genius is also working hard on top of his natural ability when you have none" shit, it's why Sasuke hit weightless Lee level taijutsu in like a month of training. It's like people forgot what the Land of Waves arc was about.
They couldn't kill Madara because he had all that shit going for him and also knew how to use it. Black Zetsu ganked him by surprise in a way that doesn't really make sense so he could revive Kaguya using Madara as a sacrifice. The good guys were able to beat Kaguya because she was insane and had no idea how to do shit about fuck and was just throwing ass loads of power around. Madara was a super soldier, Kaguya was just a monster. It's all shit.
The only person who id say didnt get redemption and likely wasnt manipulated by madara was Hidan. But hes stuck in a hole forever I guess just forget about the imortal guy
