    This Tiny House is FULLY off grid. I used rain water for the sink and shower, and a gas generator to power the house. The fireplace is ELECTRIC, so the TV is 100% ok above it! Make sure to check out our 60 ACRE Property we just bought! ruclips.net/video/m8fa4XHJYwQ/видео.html

    As a retired Construction Supervisor, I can see a real problem with not using a vapor barrier behind the drywall and the metal interior roof covering if you live in a cold climate and heat the house. If this is so, after about 6 months the insulation will be very wet and will support mold growth.

    • @amyk6453

      What is a vapor barrier?

    • @Chahlie
      @Chahlie 2 года назад +286

      And in the shower. Former insulator here, and the shower gave me huge concerns. I know the brown backing on the insulation may be considered a vapour barrier but it literally takes 2 minutes to hang some poly. Especially since there didn't seem to be provision made for the joins in the wall materials. In my opinion it's worth whatever it takes to get someone out there to do spray foam on the entire envelope.
      This is why I would rather buy a basket case building of any sort than something remuddled.

      I live in Ohio & I imagined water dripping off of the ceiling lol... it looks like they're in a warm climate. If its dry also, maybe mold isn't an issue. It can't be that dry if he uses rain water collection.

      In the South, the vapor barrier is toward the inside of the building envelope, and the kraft face of the insulation, if installed correctly (which they did, with the tabs overlaping on the face of the studs), provides enough of a vapor barrier to meet code in most areas.
      My main concern is that shower, with cedar boards nailed directly to untreated subsurface boards. I see mold and mildew issues in the near future. At the very least a peel-and-stick membrane over the subsurface would have been nice. And the cedar boards themselves probably should have been beveled to shed water. For good measure, after being cut and dry-fitted, they could have been pre-treated on all sides before install, followed by a final treatment over the puncture holes after install.

      @@gizzyguzzi yeah this is exactly what I thought! the tin sheets also make the room a lot more echoey than the wood would have and it looks bad too. Some people might like it, but it just isn't for me. Then the wall in the loft seems, lacking in a way... anyways, my point is that making the wall would have been a lot easier if the roof had been smooth with boards rather than it being covered with the wavy tin (I don't like the gaps left between the roof and the wall)... Now all of this of course personal opinion and they can and will do whatever they want haha, I just like to critique. I was simply interested because I'm curious about home designing 😊

It doesn't have a bathroom nor a kitchen because it's literally across the deck from our tiny house but it does have a mini fridge and microwave if she wants to snack while there. She just wanted and needed a place to have some alone time in and to have quite time for school work while she's here. As she said it's nothing special but it's perfect.

    Seems me and several others can see that the issue with not using a vapor barrier, and pressure treated wood with proper seals, will cause moisture to travel between and cause mold build up. I get wanting to get it done quickly, but might as well do it properly, so you don't have to worry later.

      He did pan the shower floor but newer codes require a pitch to drain before laying pan liner. I've done dozens of remodels for just this reason. A few years and his floor will rot from pooling water under the concrete. Not so worried about shower walls since he ran liner 12" up wall and used backer board before finishing with cedar (mold resistant) and applying a sealer.

    I put a bathtub, sink, w/d in a shed, and had to reinforce the floor, with sistered 2x4 joists. and of course, another layer of 1/2 in plywood, and a finished floor. Quite the project. raising the shed, to put sistered joists in. But, the worst, was this new floorining. I greatly prefer, a painted floor, or sheet flooring The problem with the new flooring, that is not breathable is that it buckles floors in Louisiana (we are not there, but I''m paying attention) . As a tile contractor, I have to say that there are some major problems with that shower. First off, your concrete for the pan was way to wet. It should have been just wet enough to hold its shape when compressed in the hand, not wet enough to literally pore out of a bucket. Next, it appeared you used mastic wall adhesive to set the floor tile in the pan, that is meant for wall application only, never for a pan. Lastly, you used wood to finish the shower walls? Do you know why wood is never used for shower walls? Because its absolutely terrible as a shower wall. They adsorb water, mold and rot, even if you use a heavy oil wood like teak, it won't last.
    Another thing, you laid the flooring straight down to the subfloor without a vapor/thermal underlayment barrier. I hope you like cold floors growing mold under them because that is what you'll have.
