When I was working at Harley we had this issue with a handful of bikes. Dunlop released a bad batch of tires that we had to be replaced. People don't understand just how important tires are on your motorcycle. Properly inflated and maintained tires could be the difference between making it home safe and ending up in the hospital.

I was told by the dealer that regardless how new your vehicle is weather bike or car you should check the manufacturer date of the tire. Every tire has one. Just like you said the vehicle could be brand new and just sitting and the rubber starts to wear. I was told anything over 5 years should be changed.

Recalls are for problems with actual mechanical, electrical or electronic components of the bike itself not tires. Indian/Polaris does not manufacture tires. Recalls are for issues like the high speed wobble brand new 2024 Harleys are having because of a flaw in the design of the bike or software issues with the ECM like new 2024 Harleys are having.

Glad you're ok and it turned out to be an easy fix. I always recommend checking the date on new tires. They might be the first time mounted on a bike, but manufactured several months to years ago. Stay safe!

Great customer service. That's always a huge plus in my book. I would say that geometry coupled with that frame would make the bike more sensitive to and possibly magnify any tire issues. It's an awesome looking machine and I'm glad you didn't have to return it.

(no pun intended) I have ridden tires that I thought were just fine and then at a tire change upgraded to better tires and I am going, Wow! this is like a new motorcycle! I didn't know it would corner so smoothly. Yep, I am kind of obsessed with tires these days.

Robert, Good info. Glad you did the analysis, talked with techs & engineers, and got the right answer. Who would have known? Good thing they didn't push you off with no resolution. I for one can tell you my experience with Indian/Polaris. My 2014 Indian Vintage engine cut off shortly after starting, over & over again, months after I bought it from a private party. I took it to my local dealer, Boston Indian, actually in Revere, Ma. Lots of Indian owners aren't so fortunate since dealers are spaced far apart. So they came back with good news: "It's covered". It was a factory defect on the ECM, the electric control module. Fortunately for me I went to the dealer who was aware of the issue. Unfortunately for those who buy used, Polaris does not (or can not) seek out 2nd owners to send a 'notice recall'. I later found the Indian recall & reposted it on an Indian owners internet facebook site to let others know about this real, known issue. I am so glad you too are concerned about bike owners and take the time to make issues heard. thanx.

I had 4700 blissful miles until the dealer replaced both tires due to a sudden groaning noise that sounded like bearings. It was a moan/groan. The tires were covered at 4700 miles. I get the bike back, and this is what exactly what I have experienced since. Took it back after 50 miles to be told they did not feel anything. Rode it home, found the wobble not as bad, however, still there and a little concerning. Took a video, emailed it to them and waiting to hear back (they are closed for the next 2 days). Dude that bike is sweet!! Glad you got the problem figured out cuz its gonna save alot of people stress. I heard just because a tire is "new" doesn't mean it hasnt been sitting for years and deteriorating. The manufacture date of the tires is very important and ive seen many reviews online including Amazon about "new" tires bought that have been nothing but problems and it always came down to the manufacture date being 5+ years old and tires even splitting once they get some stress on them. That is something I recommend people trying to buy tires look into when buying tires. Try to get the manufacture date of the tires you are purchasing and it should be the last 4 digits of the Dot tire id number on the sidewall. First 2 numbers represent week and last 2 numbers represent year.

It seems to be a Metzler tire issue from what I'm hearing and what I've witnessed. Metzler is the stock tire on challengers and pursuits. I had a Kawasaki Vaquero, also a heavy, fixed fairing bagger. When it needed tires I put the Metzlers on and it did that shimmy shake. It's very unsettling. Always check your tire pressure, helps prevent cupping of the tire on these heavy bikes.
Over 6000 miles on my Pursuit DH Premium Icon and we're G2G.

@@RidingandWrenching I had experienced a similar issue with my 2020 Harley Ultra. once the tire was changed, it went away. So i think maybe this issue goes to how these dealers transport/store the bikes or the lack of tire rotation, especially on a bike that weighs in at almost 1000 lb.

My Challenger has done this with a well worn front tire... it had started cupping and it was the cause of the instability at 45-50mph. With hand off the bars it would shimmy like it was trying to start a tank slapper, just as you stated. Replaced the tire with a new CruiseTec and all is fine.

Tires are so critical. When I bought my 2008 Heritage, I made the dealer check the tire codes even though they looked new and the bike only had 16,000 miles on it. They ended up putting brand new tires on for me. Within a week, on the third ride, my rear tire tube blew out. I was told they put the wrong size tube in the tire, and it was a tire tube that was known to blow. They refused to help me and said I didn't have any warranty. Dunlop wouldn't help, since the wrong size tube was used.
Good thing I didn't get killed. I thought if I bought a used bike from a Harley dealer that I would feel safe. I never had any problems with the bikes I purchased from private sales. Danbury Harley-Davidson lost my business, and my brother will never buy another bike from them either. He has purchased two Ultra Limited bikes from them in the past.
I'm glad you figured out the problem, Robert!

I even pulled over and started shaking and inspecting the front end to see if the axle was loose or if there was play in the wheel bearing. Metzlers are know for "cupping" as they wear out but my tire showed no signs of abnormal wear. I was planning on pulling off the fairing this weekend and check if the goose neck bolt was loose. >>>> Thanks again for researching this issue and then putting it out there. In the past 30 years because some of those tires sit around the tire manufacturer and are bought in bulk . I have the same (exact) motorcycle. I had the same problem with the wobble at 40 mph, when my hands were not on the grips. I thought it was because of the Aftermarket (KST) handle bars. After I checked the TP, it was less than 38. I still have the same front tire, at 12K miles, I had to replace the rear tire. Unfortunately, I was stuck in Tampa, on a Sunday, the only place available with a tire, was a Harley rear tire. :( so far, so good.

I inspected the front tire and it had 2 indents or bubbles in the front tire. When they shipped the bike they strapped it down massively on a metal rack and shipping type metal container, and it was strapped down so tight that it put 2 indents in the tire.

Common issue with the Challengers so it'd make sense that it affects the Pursuits also. I've had 2 Challengers and both had their front tire replaced under warranty, one at 400 miles and one at 1100 miles. Both times there was no issue once the new tire was placed on. My current bike has 14K on the replacement tire, and although it's starting to cup a little, the initial issue never came back.

I just changed the front tire on my '17 H-D RGS for the same thing. The bike has 6,000 miles on it but the problem started at a much lesser degree and has been there since it was new off of the showroom floor. At first it was very minor and I kept telling myself I would just live with it but last week it felt like it was starting to wobble with both hands on the bars so I felt it was now a safety concern. I was being told the same thing that tires never cause a wobble and that it is always in the steering neck or wheel BRGS. I have a lift and know how to test these things and had done so multiple times including spinning the wheel to check for tire run out. This time last week when I put it up on the lift I checked the tire last because of what I had been told by the dealer and an Independent shop that I trust and when I spun the wheel I found the tire had a very minor wonky spot in it that shimmied like a Hula girl on each rotation. I said Ahhaw! and since putting a new tire on it I have a better riding motorcycle than I've had since new. Now I can take my hands completely off the bars. Strait and smooth as silk. The Motorcycle tire Store I went to said the OE tires H-D puts on their bikes are garbage and they had seen lot's of this in recent years. I put a Dunlop American Elite on to match the tread of the rear tire being the H-D branded Dunlop OE tire. I hope the rear one holds up through the tread wear life as it is the same poor quality as the original front. The Dunlop American Elite is an upscale more expensive tire compared to the original.

My 2019 Goldwing DCT does the same thing, I had a new tire installed last year and it went away, however, after wear and use of the tire, it has returned. Not sure why, but, must be something to do with the cupping and how the tire wears on my bike. I've just learned to live with it not let pressure off the bars at 40 and below. Maybe the balancing plates they make for my bike would eliminate the issue with tire wear.

I'm with you - one of the 150 who purchased the 2023 Pursuit Elite. It has the wobble and I researched and found your video. Thanks. Problem I have had is the dealer is oblivious and told me that this is just something this model does! I asked them how they basically blamed design flaw and asked how they came to that conclusion. I was told they test rode their other Pursuits and compared!!! I called Polaris and they told me it was the tire and they were contacting the dealer to get them to change out the tire. I will give the dealership some hell AFTER they correct the problem. Fingers crossed this fixes the wobble for my bike. Otherwise, I love my Pursuit but can't understand why Indian hasn't issued something proactively especially given this is among the most expensive models they offer. I have owned a Victory CCT, Indian Roadmaster 2016 and now this Pursuit. My loyality is shaken not because this has happened but in the way it's being handled.

Thank you for posting. Picked up my bike 2 weeks ago, took it is for the 500mi service on friday and noted a few things and for them to check. I noted the vibration in the handlebars, but did do this test before taking. I asked that they check the tire pressures while it was there and said it was good to go and no recalls. Went out sunday and did this test on a non-congested straight road after being out on some twisties and sure enough it happened. Felt the vibration while riding earlier, but did test it until I was on a flat straight rode. Called/emailed the dealer to request a new front tire. Did you record the DoT numbers for the batch/week of production? Just curious.

I have a 2022 Pursuit Limited that I purchased in September and have had no problems that I've noticed until recently.
Upon getting close to my 5000-mile service, I had my cruise set at 35 mph and removed both of my hands from the bars to adjust my helmet, and I got the violent shaking you're talking about.
While I had it in for the service, it was on the list of the 2 things that I wanted to have checked out. Unfortunately, the technician didn't ride it before he started the service. As I was getting my keys and paying the bill, the technician stopped for a quick talk and told me that he thought it had to do with the fixed fairing and low tire pressure. I keep a constant eye on the air pressure with the TPMS on the ride command, and it was only down 2 lbs.
I also had a Vetter fixed fairing back in the early 80s, and it never shook no matter the speed or air pressure.
It's my belief that there is a problem with the tire. Unfortunately, the dealer that I use is understaffed and always in a hurry. I intend to keep riding it until it gets worse, and then I'll take it back again. Now that there's a record of it and I have the tire warranty, any other problem should be covered.

Glad it worked out for you without incident Robert. What tires do those Indian Pursuits have on them? Just curious..

my new 23 Pursuit doesnt seem to have this problem.. My 20 challenger i bought beginning of 21 did, at around 70 kph. Now, i have seen videos where owners had it happen very violently like you say, well on mine it was sort of mid range.. not aggressive but not lightly either.
Didnt really bother with it as my 20 had other issues as well, so i got rid of the bike asap, traded it in for my new pursuit and couldnt be happier.
One thing to ask, check your diagnostics sometimes. Mine and my clubmembers pursuit here in Belgium both have it from time to time: an "unknown" error will pop up.. my dealer doesnt know what it is yet and i have seen other owners on facebook groups reporting the same code

That's great they took care of you and your bike! I have to wonder if they would treat everyone the same or if they gave you better treatment due to your popularity on social media. Just a thought. Thanks for bringing that issue to light.

When you felt the "bump" at slow speed was it only turning in one direction? Wonder if it sat on the stand long enough o develop a flat spot...

It didn’t sit on a stand long at all. They built it and delivered it and I picked it up.

Are they Dunlop tires? I think I just got a bad one which my belt guard that always fit didn't fit now it's got a knife edge cut on the largest part of my 300 hundred dollar tire. Plus labor at 120 hr.

No it’s not Dunlop, but this same thing happens with other tire manufacturers.

I have the same problem on my Yamaha FJR when I use a light touch on the handle bars and as my tire would wear it would get worse. I tried different tires and some were better and some were worse. I tried different air pressures and that helped on some tires and not on others but as the tires would wear they would get uneven wear and cupping and the shaking would come back alive. Even different types of pavement would affect the intensity of the wobbling shaking. Nothing really totally gets rid of the light touch shaking. I even added a fork brace and it still does it. The one thing that I have not checked is to see if the spring pressure/rebound in the front two forks are equal. Anyway, you will know as your tire wears if its really just the tire.
