I have 2 of those collapsible backdrops, but until today I didn’t know how to fold them. I would struggle for many minutes, with the help of my daughter and my wife, but reached an acceptable outcome only by sheer luck. Thanks for the Taco System! It really works!
The single one backdrop that I use the most in my home studio is my Erin Gray 10x20 cloth backdrop. I get nothing but good, positive feed back with the end results of this particular cloth backdrop.
The custom painted is my favorite.
My parents met each other after the war in the 1940s and my mom, a muralist, painted custom backdrops for window displays, and my dad was the window display designer.
I'm presently using 86" seamless in my small home studio but after watching your sublime background tutorial, I can easily see buying collapsible for on location work. I prefer the earth tone from Savage as a starter. Earth tones seem to offer the flexibility with most client apparel. Thanks for the share Miguel.
That was so timely. I’ve been looking into backdrops over the last few days and you’ve made up my mind - collapsible all the way! Thanks a lot.
I love black background with Rembrandt lighting. Classic dramatic look.
As someone who's still starting into studio photography, one of the things I'm most interested investing in besides the lighting are backdrops. This video fits well for me moving forward. Thanks!
I was looking for a backdrop and was not able to decide. After going through this video, definitely colapsible one. Thank you so much for the valuable inputs.
Thanks for this. I was contemplating what new backgrounds I should get and this helped a lot. Making a order now.
I am very new to photography and therefore do not own neither a studio nor any backgrounds yet, but these collapsible ones are really apealing and seem very practical. Among the ones shown in the picture gallery I liked the pink one the most. Thank you for all the priceless information you give us through your videos!
Love the hand painted custom backdrops ! Makes your portrait really unique. Keep up the brilliant tutorials Miguel !
Love the collapsible background in the blue/grey colour. Easy to use and not too expensive. I've also used these for flat lay work 🤟🏾
I have been looking at different backdrops, I am just in the beginning phase photography. This is the first I have heard of collapsible back drops. I will definitely look into them, Thanks.
I have one of the grey collapsible backdrops and it’s my favorite. I am able to go from pure white to grey to black with one backdrop.
The fold-able back drops are my favorite. Like you said, portability and storage makes total sense. Thanks for your video on backdrops.
My favourite is outdoor wooden thatching panels. The collapsible backdrops you show look very practical and good to use.
I have always been a seamless paper guy but watching you in this video will definitely make me a convert. I am going to assess my needs for the type of backdrop I use most, and start building my inventory.
I’m just starting out and I love the foldable one’s for practicality as you said, but I have found that for full body shots they are not used. Thanks for all your help. You’re awesome giving advice.
I just started looking into backdrops and picked up a couple cheap vinyl ones. Been really wanting to pick up the grey textured collapsible backdrop. Thanks for making the video as it makes sense that the collapsible ones would save space.
Collapsible are by far my favorite. Man you made folding it look so easy. I always struggled with the larger ones. I see it's all in the wrist.
I have one of the hand painted gravity backdrops and love it! I’m interested in these more portable options as well though. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, I always enjoy your videos! I use Savage seamless backgrounds mostly, but will definitely check out the collapsible ones as well.
✨📷✨
Thank you for the video. Just what I needed as I start my photography journey
I agree. The Savage collapse style are my favorite. Portability and wrinkle free. 👍
I have two savage collapsible backdrops that I just love. My clients appreciate that I can set up a backdrop pretty much anywhere and take some studio shots. Great video as always. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to your next video
I really like the collapsible backgrounds too! Thank you for your insight!
Super informative Miguel! Im just starting out and considering my options for a backdrop. Pointing out that the foldables double as a mobile backdrop is a huge plus!
You got yourself a new sub! Thanks!!
Thanks for video Miguel, I enjoy seeing how you work. I use a white background and have used spacing gels to change it up. I love the collapsible ones and the painted one are stunning I look trying them.
I love the fact that they are double sided with different designs. Very convenient and portable for a quick change if needed.
I started using two different collapsible s based on home space for practice and field use. I'm using a B/W and a Grey textured/Rose textured collapsible and sometimes I use gels to change colors but also interested in the printed vinyl for use with my D.I.Y stand. Thanks for the folding tips!
Had my eyes on those collapsible backdrops for a while now. Transportable and good value for money. Enjoying your content! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I like the medium gray backgrounds, so versatile. I tend to use gels or rgb lights to change the back color when appropriate. Great video man, gonna look into those collapsible ones.
Seamless gray background is definitely one I used the most, I have done some custom my self with paint and sponge, they look very good, but most of the time just plain gray.
My favorite backdrop is the seamless paper from savage, really digging the mocha lately for the warm tones.
Great video. As an amateur, lots of things to consider that I hadn't thought of when looking for a backdrop.
thanks for sharing your experience with these types of backgrounds, I liked all the BG, after seeing your final results, but I have choose the savage moonson one, indigo BG was great too!
I just have a few cloth ones hanging up on the wall in my office for when I want to take portraits, but I have to admit that those collapsable ones look amazing!
I never thought about using seamless BG paper attached to my V-Flats. Makes perfect sense. Thanks
Miguel, I been watching your for a few years ever since I purchased my Sony systems. I own the a7iii with a Sony nifty 50 f1.8 and saved and purchased Sony 24-70 f2.8 GM after that Sony 85mm f1.4 GM and stop-but after looking at one of your tutorial and you had the
Sony 90mm f2.8 micro and how you had your subject sharp and crisp WOW!! I purchased it -that lens is the sharpest knees I ever own.
Thanks buddy..So now the flexible portable BACKGROUND I see a few that I really like and.
Ps. My Sony never failed me not once..
Cheers.
I’ve been using a gray cloth background. It’s working alright. But the collapsible ones you showed are really versatile and portable.
Love those collapsible backdrops! Thanks for a great video!
I love the look of painted - need to have a go at making one myself because $
Oh my goodness! Mr. Quiles that first shot is really awesome!!! Like your style. Keep it up!!
Hola Miguel, My favourite background colour is the 50% neutral grey because it makes life so easy to drop in an alternative background in Photoshop. Gracias from the UK.
I agree wholeheartedly with the collapsible backdrops. I noticed long ago that I was using the same gray one you were, lol. I also have a two sided black and white which I have used for professional headshots, beauty, and portrait, in my living room nonetheless. People thought I had an amazing studio for quite some time, but I was likely in my home, or someone’s office or building in the comfort of their own space. The absolute best for portability and on the spot business.
The taco method ! Love it. Great video to help me decide on what backgrounds to try. Thanks Miguel. 👍
I am a big Savage foldable backdrop user myself. Love how easy you can set one up vertical or horizontal. Not to mention the Price of them is very reasonable and you get 2 different background from each one. Plus like you said storage is a breeze and hardly take up any room and easy to take on the road with you. Another thing you can do with the savage backdrop which is nice is you can fold in like v-flaps and put some one in the middle of the fold so you have a backdrop that looks like a corner of a room or it can block out say sun light if your outside from one side and still have the back ground. There also easy to lay horizontal for a portrait of some one laying down. So yes the Savage for the go to for me.
I like collapsible/reversible backdrops for mobility and ease of setup. My fav is a Lastolite white/gray 6x7 collapsible which covers a lot of bases. Easy to make it go white or black or anything in between.
Love your tips Miguel. Your portraits are so amazing!
been eyeing those collapsible backdrops for a few weeks now. just found out savage also made them!
Medium grey, I can make it white, black, or grey with different lighting setups.
How do you transform it in white ?
Thank you for showing us the Savage backdrops. Appreciate your videos as always.
This video came at a good time Miguel! I was just looking to upgrade from my bland house walls to a real background. I'll definitely consider beginning with a collapsible background before I try for a bigger set up.
I really like the white seamless. It can be used white, gelled for any other color, but also use as a grey background as well. I'd like to get some V-Flats though for sure. I have a pop-up with back on one side and white on the other that works great. I've been thinking about making my own canvas backdrops too.
Great video Miguel!! as always!!... I prefer the fabric background with texture... that adds a lot to the portraits!
I do like your collapsible backdrops! I've been looking at them for a while. I have been using reflectors for a while along with some seamless paper. great video
Thanks Miguel. I have a collapsible background that i love also.
At first, my choice was the canvas background, but by the end of the video, you sold me on the collapsible kind! Very informative video!
I am used to cloth backdrops. They work great for families, but isn't exactly pet friendly and takes a lot of maintenance (pre- and post-setup). I will definitely be switching to collapsible backgrounds for their ease of care and simplified storage and to the vinyl background when pets or full-length portraiture is necessary! Thank you for sharing this content with us.
I don’t have a background yet, as only bought my first 'proper' camera last year and still learning my craft with landscape, I had no idea of the types, but thanks to this video, collapsible is the way forward. Thanks!
As I usually work at home and I have limited space available, I also go with the collapsible ones. Easy to store, easy to transport and to handle
Hi! love your videos. Seamless paper for me is my go to options. hand painted- well I always want to make one myself, but haven't gotten to that just yet. i'll have to look into investing into the collapseable backgrounds.
Than you for sharing. Inspiring work!!
My favourite backdrops are my 3m white vinyl and my 4x3m handpainted dropcloths that I have painted myself but they are hard to store and impossible to transport easily. I am definitely going to have to look at getting one or more of those collapsible options now I have seen how big they can be that perfect and quick!
My favorite studio background is my Kate backdrop-Collapsable doublesided because it is portable and easy to set up.
I like collapsible backgrounds too, and also the westcott x-drop system
Amazing video thanks a lot! Does Gravity backdrops comes with pipe inside so you can mount it to background stand easily? or it is just like a large carpet and you need to mount it with clamps?
Nice! I actually love simple paper rolls for most of my shoots. Lots of colors and variety. They can be cumbersome but it’s worth the time to put them up.
I have been using savage seamless paper background and it’s been working out great for me in my small home studio.
Mine is a 3x2 meter portable backdrop with black on one side and white on the other. I love to use the black side. It gives the feel.
I am not trying to sound ignorant or simple. But my favorite best background is probably what you’re recommending. I have just started to get into headshot portrait photography and need to learn all I can. So i am going through youtube to learn. Thank you for all your knowledge.
Love simplicity of seamless but really want painted canvas.. love the look of canvas patterns
My personal favorite that I currently own is the X-Drop from Westcott. I use it because it's easy set up, easy to clean backdrops and of course. Portability!
My favorite backdrop is still simple grey muslin cloth - works for full body shots and I can make it black, white or any colour just by controlling my lights. Good video!
Only the best, for the best! Great breakdown of various backdrop options, and we enjoyed reading the comments to find out what many photographers are finding the most convenient for their use!
Yes! Collapsible backgrounds for the win! I like the grays the best because as far as color goes, they are super versatile. That being said, there is something irresistible about a deep, dark blue textured or dark teal textured backdrop that makes my heart flutter with joy!
Going to check portables out thanks for the vid. They look great..
I use a collapsible black and grey for 90% of my work. The grey is used the most. I do have some rolls but the end up get ruined more often than not.
Thanks for the nice video as always!
Perfect I own the basic black and white, but it’s time to get another one
I do like those custom backdrops, but foldable ones are amazing as well and cost effective as well, I own black and white one, I should really look into getting different patterns if I want to attract different types of shoots.
My go to right now is polar white paper background as im doing more high key fashion and product photography. My favorite is gray though as i can manipulate the color especially w gels. Thanks...Ry from Dubai
Collapsable background is my best choice too. It can actually go with many photo shoot.
My favorite would have to be savage charcoal grey, because with just some lights and a few speed gels you can get multicolored backgrounds. But have been thinking about getting one of these for more on location quick setup shoots.
Love the collapsable backgrounds! I have a cloth muslin background that i also use. Sometime i use a clips ti attach to 5 in 1 reflector when on location so i dont need a background stand.
An outstanding information for portraiture photography quite informative thks
My favorite is collapsible background also, its handy and easy to carry anywhere.
Those portable ones are great! Space saver and they look good also. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Miguel, I prefer natural (outdoors) backgrounds, i.e. forest or gardens because of the multiple options, but with this covid-19 (or a rainy day) the collapsible ones are great for indoor shooting (and you could use them outside too).
Like you - I have room for both so I have both. I definitely prefer to take the collapsable ones on the road. I even use them mostly at the studio but sometimes I have to set up the seamless for the bigger shots(full body, large products etc)
Wow, your models are so gorgeous as well as your photography and your tutorial. The grey one is my favourite.
I have a grey collapsible background-looks good when blurred. Folding a collapsible background-sometimes on the first try, sometimes takes me 5 😂
I like the Savage seamless paper backdrops because they are cheap however I think I'm going to move to the collapsible backdrop like you are using. Easier to transport. Thanks for your videos. Always educational.
For the record... You are by far my favorite studio photography teacher. I like Jiggie too.
I'm a big fan of the pop up backdrops. I ten to use the grey and black one the most.
I like the Savage seemless gray. Its budget friendly, versatile (light, dark or gelled backgrounds) also easy to manipulate in post production (i.e. add texture).
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, (this is my first RUclips comment ever!)
My favorite background is a black anything, seamless, cloth. But for a while now I have been trying a gray one and adding texture to it in photoshop.
Nice Video on Backgrounds but best bit for me was showing how easy it was to fold in the "Pop Ups"... will also be useful too for my "Pop Up" tent too..Many thanks.
I've been using the seamless paper and I find it good for portrait and fashion photography. Now, I am really interested with the collapsible background! Very handy!
Fan from the Philippines!❤
Great content, as usual!
My favorite background is a dark grey 3x1.5m cloth, hung by a π-shaped stand.
I've been considering buying one or two of the collapsible ones though...
Ive got this beautiful smokey brown backdrop that I love! Creates a lovely moody portrait 😊....awesome video as usual dude!
