Gavin, I've been watching your videos and learning from them for well over 10 years. It's interesting to see the differences and similarities in your videos from then until now. I'm pretty sure I learned how to do water drop photos from you, and a bunch of other 'fun-to-do' shoots. Thank you for over a decade of entertainment!
Thank you so much Mr. Hoey. I'm a beginner, but I've learnt so much from you. I was afraid and didn't know how to use a speed light before, your videos helped me so much. I just want to say Thank you. You are the best!
Oh my! I learned a lot with this video! I'm so happy with all the photos that I will be able to take with the few accessories that I currently own. Your explanations are clear and concise, and make sense, so they're easier to remember. Thank you!
After have been watching a Gavin video is before the next one, can’t wait for it. 😅 Awesome hints, lovely models, straight forward and as bonus super entertainment! Guys, love you all ❤
Fantastic results with the minimalistic set-up. Loved it. Videos created by Mr. Gavin Hoey are always meaningful, informative, and full of energy and enthusiasm. 👍
Gavin I love your videos. And this is a video I will be saving for future reference. A word of caution with the c-stand use. Long leg under the weight. Weight should be in the direction you tighten the knuckle.
I learned a lot with this video! I'm so happy with all the photos that I will be able to take one question about you laptop small monitor you use to see your light exposure on the subject
Gavin, I have to thank you for your (and the team behind you's ) brilliant series of videos! Very clearly explained and demonstrated.... I shall be watching more of them and hopefully putting then into good practice. I NEVER write comments.... but you are SO good...I just had to. Thx!!
You know I'm perfectly happy with my Canon 6D but I do envy you one thing..... eye-detect focus. What a game-changer that must be for a portrait photographer. Anyway Gavin, another great video. I'm presenting to my local photoclub in 2 weeks "Studio protraits on a budget". I'll mostly be using information from this tutorial, as it's exactly what I want to demonstrate. I have a nice collapsible softbox like yours but I'll be using an extremely cheap NEEWER shoot-thru umbrella setup. They cost peanuts and take everything to a higher level than the on-camera flashes the club members mostly use. Thanks for the video. If you're ever in the South West of France I'll trade you some accommodation for a 2 hour demo at our lovely little club.
Thanks for covering techniques that use minimal equipment. For a variety of reasons, we might not be able or willing to use a lot of high end lighting gear in a given situation. Being able to do more with less is a clear sign of higher level of talent. :)
Nice job, studio photography with speed lights in my opinion is incredibly useful. Dialing a 600watt main down for these would be difficult. I also have used speedlights outside at night using street lights and lit commercial windows as a background. Fun stuff.
Gavin is such an amazing teacher and photographer...I'm a natural light shooter but I wanna get better at studio lighting just to duplicate some of his photos
Great tutorial, as always. How do you determine the maximum size softbox a speedlight can use? BTW, are you using a new video setup in the studio? I like the camera movement.
I've literally been watching Gavin for over a decade . Thank you sir.
This is a great Thursday; Gavin this afternoon and then Daniel this evening. Could not ask for more.
Your education is a very important step, very important for those entering this profession.
Last images are really magical
You're just super fun to watch, man. Just a GREAT time!
I was so happy when I first heard his voice and tought to my self "It's Gavin!"
I just love Gavin’s videos - no hesitation, no faffing!!
I have actually photographed Jade she is actually a brilliant model and understands and can teach photographic techniques extremely well worth booking
Another excellent, informative presentation full of your usual practical and briliant tips 👍

These speedlight tutorials have given me so much to work on this holiday 🎉
Sounds like a great way to spend the holidays! 😉
@@Adorama yep.. Just got a speedlight so I'm trying everything I can with it.
Amazing what those initial setup changes made - shocking difference!
Simple but highly effective Gavin. Another tip top tutorial 👍
Gavin! Please make albums and post more videos of 1 light 2 light 3 light set ups. These definitely are helping and inspiring.
That would be great!
Yes that would be great
Yes, you're an engaging teacher!
Pwease pwetty pwease?
Thank you so much Mr. Hoey. I'm a beginner, but I've learnt so much from you. I was afraid and didn't know how to use a speed light before, your videos helped me so much. I just want to say Thank you. You are the best!
I really enjoy watch you Gavin your teaching is made simple for me.
Helpful and simple but sufficient, but most of all (for me) to the point and not hours of look how good I am. Thnx.
Love that I can tell it’s a Gavin video just from the thumbnail image! Great video, now I’m already planning a low key light session 😁
Thank you so much Sir! Always a pleasure to look at you. You are an amazing photographer and teacher!
Thank you so much! Looking forward to trying this out. I just recently bought a flash and soft box set up.
Thanks Gavin! Super helpful and thanks for answering my question about the inner diffuser.
Great 11.5mins Gavin, nice images, low key does look good. very informative and engaging.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was very helpful. You're such an amazing teacher.

With Mark gone, Gavin has really stepped up be a true leader in photography education. Thanks so much for your informative work!
Thanks Chad, Mark shoes are to big for me to fill but I do my best.
Another simple but very effective tutorial Gavin makes it all look so easy.
And I see your patented rafter floor has got another outing.
Hi Eddie. Thanks for the kind words and yes another outing for the rafter floor and NOT me being to lazy to return it to the storage barn 😉
Great video Gavin and Jade your a true teacher !!
Thanks Pat 👍
My favorite style of photography. Thank you Gavin for showing more tips.
After have been watching a Gavin video is before the next one, can’t wait for it. 😅 Awesome hints, lovely models, straight forward and as bonus super entertainment! Guys, love you all ❤
You are truly an incredible presenter. Thank you immensely!!!
Great as always! Simple and easy to understand! ❤
Great as always!!! Thank you Gavin and Sam!!!
Love this Gavin especially the later shots, do love a bit of shadow and drama.
Thanks Charlie. Shadows are good IMHO 👍
Hi, Danke Dir, für das Video! Ich habe mal wieder gelernt, dass man mit wenig Aufwand viel bewirken kann.
Awesome as always.
Amazing video, one of the best and easiest to grasp that I've seen 👏
You are such a likable man! I just love watching your videos!
Thank you Wendy 😊
Exellent intro. I'm getting some lighting soon and will try these set ups.
Long time no see gavin! You're the one of my inspiration when I started photography. Keep it up and thank you!
I have a godox V1 flash, it never let's me down, I am impressed how versatile it is.
And love the way Freya has started to film your videoes.
Taking it back to the basics, but so good, great reminder for us all to rewind the complexity every now and again!
Fabulous Gavin! Love your work & great tutorials 😍
Great one. Thanks for all the videos.
Fantastic results with the minimalistic set-up. Loved it. Videos created by Mr. Gavin Hoey are always meaningful, informative, and full of energy and enthusiasm. 👍
Thank you so much , now I understand how to use the light & the soft box
As always Gavin, awesome work!
Gavin I love your videos. And this is a video I will be saving for future reference. A word of caution with the c-stand use. Long leg under the weight. Weight should be in the direction you tighten the knuckle.
Always great content from Gavin.
I have never 'dared' positioning by strobe & softbox at that angle. This is fascinating. I will now try that. Thank you as always, Gavin
Thank you - it’s so useful to see how the lighting looks to begin with and then the adjustments you make to improve it.
Thanks this will come in real handy this weekend.
I would have thought you needed a grid for that but after seeing this it seems so obvious. Thank you!
A grid is an essential tool but it takes away up to a stop of light which was in short supply as it was!
I learned a lot with this video! I'm so happy with all the photos that I will be able to take one question about you laptop small monitor you use to see your light exposure on the subject
Great tutorial! Thanks, Gavin and Adorama! 👍
MJ, so glad you enjoyed it! :)
Thank you again, I go try this too. Learn already so much from you.
Another great video and useful techniques. Thanks Gavin, Jade, Sam or Freya! 😎👍🇨🇦
Thanks Alan 👍
Another great shoot Learnt so much from all Yr video's many thanks, .keep em coming. ❤
love your videos and work! you and daniel norton are amazing teachers!!!
Gavin, I have to thank you for your (and the team behind you's ) brilliant series of videos! Very clearly explained and demonstrated.... I shall be watching more of them and hopefully putting then into good practice. I NEVER write comments.... but you are SO good...I just had to. Thx!!
Thanks for the kind words John and for taking the time to comment 👍
Really valuable learning for me with this video, thank you.
that is just spectular. Thanks Gavin for sharing this
Excellent, I needed this for dramatic shoot in a couple days. Thanks.
Hey gabby I have watched a lot of you videos, my first time saying good job, and oh how you make me smile love your style
Thanks for the kind words 👍
Really enjoyed this video, will be trying some of this out soon as my flashes arrive from Adorama lol.
Love your videos Gavin!

Loved these images. Some had a real "old masters" vibe which I like. And you make it so simple.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Enjoyable and informative as always
Wowww! Amazing!!!!❤ lovely photos!
Thanks for good tips... next high key portraits?
I'm on it Jae :)
Nicely done great presentation!
Hi Gavin! I find your videos so didactic. Thanks so much!!
Really informative as usual Gavin.
Another amazing video. Thank you!!!
Thanks Patty 👍
Rembrandt lighting!
Nice job, studio photography with speed lights in my opinion is incredibly useful. Dialing a 600watt main down for these would be difficult. I also have used speedlights outside at night using street lights and lit commercial windows as a background. Fun stuff.
Very nice looks, Gavin and Jade!
Thanks Mike 👍
Great video. Thanks so much for sharing
This was a great video!! I look forward to trying this technique!
Gavin is such an amazing teacher and photographer...I'm a natural light shooter but I wanna get better at studio lighting just to duplicate some of his photos
👍🏾📸💪🏾Thank you for this. I’ve learned a few tricks from this.
Phelix
Inspiring. Thanks, Stefano
Awesome work as always!!
Excellent tutorial Gavin 👍
You get your “Setups” right, you are gold from there…. 😉📸💯
Como sempre, uma aula fantástica de iluminação!👏👏👏
Loving these videos. But I’d love to know how he gets the light meter to work with the speedlight. Is it on s channel on the flash trigger?
Great tutorial, as always. How do you determine the maximum size softbox a speedlight can use?
BTW, are you using a new video setup in the studio? I like the camera movement.
Love it ! You should come to Florida to do a workshop !
Not been to Florida since Photoshop World 2011, so I'm very much overdue a visit Wesley 😁
Gavin is the Best :)
Another nice video. I am a fan of low key. It might have been nice to see the blower force her hair away from her face as well as over it.
Great tips Gavin!!
Gavin wins again.
Yet another great video. You should do multiple speed lighting videos. And also the use of reflectors and speed lights. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hi, Very nice instruction video. One issue: It's not possible to have this silver beautydish send to the Netherlands. Can you help me?
when feathering the softbox towards the camera and away from the background - how does it not flare up the lens?
thanks for the video!!!
Definitely going to try this setup this weekend! Very inspiring and another great video from Gavin!
How did it go?
GOOD DEMONSTRATION
Beautiful
