I love Sabaton purely because of the power that each song gives off. Each song is a wave of energy and power that threatens to engulf you. ~ This song really showed the beauty of the Christmas Truce. How they put down their weapons and enjoyed Christmas together. no war, no weapons, no violence, just HAPPINESS AND PEACE ~ 🕊️🏳️☮️✌🏼 ThankX Love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
This was awesomely profound and powerful. I feel very emotional watching it on Christmas morning (or any other time). It just reiterates the total and utter pointlessness of war. What it essentially illustrates is that if we can be friends, shake hands and make amends for even a short period of time, why are we fighting in the first place? The only people who profit from war are the megalomaniacs, the armament companies, and the manufacturers of weapons, bullets, grenades and, especially heinous, land mines. I often wonder how they can sleep at night. On the upside, the music was amazing, and the production values of the film were excellent. Thanks, gunbunny. And Mike, I loved the way you started with the first clip. Well done. 👍 Let’s all strive for peace in the coming New Year. Especially for those people on this planet who have no choice in the matter. We know who and where they are. F&!k war! We’ve all had a gut full. 💔💔💔
I'm not sure how to put into words how powerful and emotional this is. I have played it 4 times now, and I likely would never have heard it if not for this channel. I've not heard Sabaton before to my knowledge, but it's a bunny borough that I'll be exploring. The ceasefire was played out on many battlefronts that Christmas Eve. There is a beautiful movie, Joyeux Noel, which depicts one such laying down of arms involving French, Scottish and German soldiers. I tried to attach a clip of the truce from the movie but it made the RUclips gods angry. However I strongly recommend that you watch the movie Joyeux Noel - it is beautifully made (nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign language film) and can be watched on RUclips for free. When the men picked up their rifles again, many of their hearts weren't in it anymore. At this early stage they didn't even know why they were fighting, and weren't battle hardened. They hadn't yet learnt to h*te the enemy. This led to a psychological indoctrination of troops to demonise and dehumanise the enemy, and seeing their mates die around them did the rest. The truce was, of course, high treason for which the penalty on all sides was execution, but there were too many soldiers involved for this to be practical. Instead their units were divided up and the men separated and sent to the most dangerous war fronts to be used for cannon fodder - most didn't survive the war. The soldiers' mail of course was heavily censored and redacted but some stories got through to loved ones. It was decades later that the stories were told and the extent of that Silent Night emerged.
Thanks for this Mike. Bloody fantastic! A truce happened in 1915 at Gallipoli as well between the ANZACs and the Turkish. That truce wasn't for Christmas though. It was literally because the fallen from both sides had amassed so much, the stench was unbearable (because otherwise everything was just peachy.....) and both Commands declared a truce for a few hours to bury the dead. ANZACs were burying Turks and vice versa. Trinkets were exchanged (coins, belt buckles, cigarettes) and just like this film clip, once the truce was over, they went back to their respective trenches and recommenced the fighting. Absolutely beyond imagination. Merry Christmas to you and your family Mike and to all watching. Cheers, Paul.
This highlights the stupidity of War.. for a brief moment they could see each other as fellow humans, with families and lives.... then they go back to killing each other. How sad.
It was widely reported in the British press. The French and German high command tried to hush it all up at the time. They figured it would be bad for fighting morale. Even the French movie, Joyeux Noël (2005) was sanctioned by the French military, over 80 years later. Sabaton are the band that bridge my twin obsessions of military history and metal. I still prefer Motorhead tho. 1916? Ouch!
They only came once the Atlantic had been mostly cleared of U boats..... Saving the day would have been getting stuck straight into the fight, not sitting back for many years......
im an aussie who discovered sabaton 5 years ago. they are now in my top 5 bands ever.
G'day Mike, Merry Christmas. Another song with the same theme is Bellau Wood
A very moving production. Makes you want to hug your loved ones tight. A good thing on Christmas day

U S troops didn't get involved until 1917. The world had been fighting for years before they came in to save the day. 🇺🇲

this was about british and germans buddy ,,there was no americans involved ..usa didnt enter the war until 1917
