There were and still are so many diets and lifestyles being presented to us as 'the best' or 'the healthiest', but I think every single one of us has to make a decision for ourselves taking into consideration our health and our situation so that we can better ourselves. Kindness is a big thing in veganism and we shall be kind to ourselves (and not make food rule our lives) as well!

Thank you for the TW. I'm not gonna watch it because of it but your comments about your relationship to food now are so heart-warming and honestly really important!
Also the background is on point, super calming and harmonious with the colours.

My eating has changed and developed for the better over the past 4 years and I can think back to some times that my eating habits were just horrendous. I’m so glad that I’ve learned how to listen to my body and eat in a healthy way. It’s nice to know that I’m not alone. Thanks for being one of the creators that has helped me learn along the way!

Oh wow, I wasn’t a viewer of yours back in 2016, but I was right there with you on the freelee, HCLF, raw til 4, frying with water, misery bus. I love this video. It’s so important to normalise changing our viewpoint, and holding ourselves accountable. And you did that in such a kind, humorous way. You can see how you’re so much more in tune with yourself now. 😊

When I found your videos, what made me subscribe was the fact that you used oil. I was starting to delve into minimalism and vegan RUclips, and you were definitely the least extreme and the most down to earth

Watching this video, I realized that I went through the same thing. After my eating disorder, I thought I was just getting “healthy”, but clearly looking back I was continuing the disordered eating by placing all these restrictions on what I would allow myself to eat. It took a long time to come back from that way of thinking but you were definitely such a help in that journey! Thank you!

I definitely remember watching these videos back in the day! I was definitely inspired by hclf/wslf myself at the time but I could never fully commit so it was mostly just eating lots of rice and potatoes and frying my food in water. I would love to see you reacting to your Thailand trip videos, I remember all the people in Chiang Mai at the time just making videos of the loads of fruit they bought, haha.

Oh my god, this took me BACK! HCLF was such a wild ride, I used to be on the massive smoothie train and brown rice only, and it's crazy how relaxed I am now a days. Loved this - reminded me of how crazy RUclips was in 2016 haha.

While watching this it kinda klicked in my head - I had an eating disorder years ago, since than kinda struggling to find a balanced diet - for the longest time I always felt guilty eating chocolate, sweets etc. At the moment I’m trying the high starch one as well and while watching you speak and react to your old videos I realize that I’m restricting myself again. I have a balanced breakfast but for always coming home hungry after work cause I don’t eat enough. I’m afraid using oil, and I’m tired of eating Brokkoli with potatoes all the time.I know now that I need to change something, I don’t want to restrict myself my whole life anymore, I really want to start enjoying food again. Thank you for speaking so openly about it - it really helped me reflecting my own food choices. 💚

I really liked this video, and you have really helped me to look at food in a more positive way. Would you consider doing a video about how you changed your mindset from seeing food as good/bad to just seeing food as food? It seems like such a simple thing, but it isn't!

Just found your YT channel again, was curious how youre doing now when it comes to this. I found this vid, i know its some years ago already but im so so soooo glad to hear your relationship with food is better right now!! 🙏 ❤❤

OG subscriber here, I remember these videos! When I first went vegan, it was during the hclf era too, these meals are so similar to what I was eating in my early 20s. And I can totally empathize with feeling hungry but experiencing guilt about snacking because of volume of carbs I was eating at my meals. Lovely video as always Madeleine! Sending love from western Canada.

I loved this video! Didn't we all fall for the trap of 'healthy eating' back then. I totally recognize the replacing your eating disorder with other disordered eating, so happy I got out of that trat and allow myself to really eat whatever I (truly) want. By the way, what lipstick are you wearing? It's gorgeous!

It's crazy how diet culture has made us change our relationship with food, and even believe that we were feeling "better". I think that we have to be aware of these types of unhealthy practices, and to be conscious of that it's a huge step for us as a society. Thanks so much to share your experience and make us see how much we can learn from our mistakes!!! ♥️ I love you! Send you a lot of love 😊

Thank you so much for this video! I have so much respect for you for not leaving those videos on your channel and for calling out your old disordered eating behaviours. I’ve been through a similar journey with an eating disorder, “recovering” from it, then spiralling into a WFPB strict oil free diet way of eating. Life is so much better cooking things with oil and actually eating them too!! Like I used to feel so jealous of my family eating shop bought biscuits or things I’d baked while I just snacked on fruit. I’m so much happier and feel so much better in myself now that I eat the biscuits and actually have a balance of all (vegan) foods. Also recently had proper pesto with oil not homemade oil and salt free stuff and it’s so much better. I stopped watching lots of youtube because I didn’t want to just watch what I eat in a day videos because theres just too much comparison there that I don’t think it’s ever healthy or helpful, but I’m starting to get back into your videos as you rarely post what I eat in a days anymore and I love your content. It’s nice to have someone to watch on RUclips with a healthy relationship with food. ☺️

Wow, I remember all these old videos. I could tell something was very wrong so I distanced myself from your channel after that. I'm so glad to see you're doing so much better! The amount of fad diets around vegan youtube at that time was a real problem, but people just seemed to kid themselves that they'd found the 'perfect' way of eating. As a whole, I think we've moved on from that now (apart from Freelee, obvs) and we're all better off for it.

Oh gosh it was like watching myself in your old videos! Why did we do this to ourselves?! Its such a ridiculous way to eat! I remember going to aldi and buying a whole case of bloody bananas! Not enough bananas whack a load of dates or coconut sugar in to some orange juice 😳 I now can't eat another smoothie, I hated it then and I hate them now!
Why did we try and convince ourselves that it was making us feel good when we felt awful!
I've followed your journey as it was so parallel to my own, you've helped me so much. thank you for your honesty and sharing your journey. I'm sure you've helped alot of people like myself.❤
