Yeah, i had the feeling of sincerity too. We all do small and big fck ups. This was a bigger one. They noticed, they apologized and retracted the legal inquiries - thats basically the best they can do. Now we have to look out for them either learning or repeating, but atm i guess they will learn.
It takes a lot of courage and humility to admit when you are wrong. So kudos to the Mini motorway ? Devs for reaching out to AQR admitting they dropped the ball. And I always thought imitation was the highest form of flattery. They are both unique in their own right and should be proud of their own unique take on this new genre.
I agree. Not only are "clones" okay, but personally AQR is so different from Mini Motorways that I didn't think of it as, "which one should I buy?" but rather have bought both. If that makes sense.
For your unique buildings, bring in separate roads from each network and select "no through traffic" on them. This keeps the networks separated. This also avoids unnecessary junctions. For more tips, you want to avoid trading as much as possible to limit wasteful spending. Using your bulldozer on the red building at the end would've saved you. Another trick is to delete everything at around 12k-15k to construct a proper network and maximize your resources. If you hold down the right mouse button to remove about 6 or so roads, the options to delete all will appear on the left. Just wait for the traffic to clear out before starting over. I scored 37,583 AQR on New York using this strategy. I also take a picture of the trading menu to know the value of the rewards :D
Cloverleaf *needs* 4 roads. No more, no less. This is why you were still getting cars stopping in cloverleafs. Cuz the intersection is just a normal intersection if there's more or less than 4 roads. Silly Matt
In his defense cloverleafs are extremely rare in the UK being that there is only 2 true cloverleaf junctions, as roundabouts pretty much are used at majority of intersections instead.
I bought the game when the big announcement came in about it going away, so I'm glad things got sorted out. I still haven't played it, but I intend to sometimes soon. I have a few ideas...
This makes me really happy to hear that AQR will live on. I hope the dev can keep doing what they love. I think you did a good deed here Matt, you raised awareness and played probably a good part in it that the dev's of Mini Metro and Mini Motorways corrected there mistake. Good job, pat on the back.
This is awesome! I absolutely love this fantastic news! It feels like the first time I've seen a peaceful resolution after an issue gained attention. Well done community! 🙌🏻
This seems to be a trend! Baronvongames saved guns up and now Matt is saving AQR! Great to see RUclipsrs( and their fans) defending the games that we love.
I've REALLY feared the makers of Space Invaders would now take down every space game. and imagine, i mean JUST IMAGINE, what Nintendo could and WOULD do with this....
Realistically it’s really hard to fight clones, even if I make a game with near identical mechanics or even identical mechanics, so long as I didn’t use your assets or source code there’s a very high I’d be in the clear. Effectively you can’t patent a game style, only the things that make your interpretation of it unique. (characters, universe, etc)
@@austinestep8461you say that but WB did patent the nemesis mechanic from the shadow of games Wich is a shitty move and ironically they didn't made a new game in a very long time now.
@KingJohnMichael They patented the name and unique form. They do not own the idea of hostile NPCs with memory. If a developer made a near exact copy of the mechanic without using any of WB's code and called it the Rival system, WB would have nothing to enforce against that person. They would fail if they tried to sue him.
As a New Yorker: I am amused how accurately the high traffic on the left reflected the crappy traffic of the New Jersey Turnpike. And I'm not at all surprised that tge cause of your failure was in Staten Island.

I'm surprised just the mere mention of the Statue of Liberty doesn't make Matt feel sick. Not only is a very obvious piece of architecture, it's FRENCH architecture.....That should be offensive on virtually every level :P

7:47 You put a roundabout in the middle of two motorways?😱 No civil engineer would be so machiavellian enough that they'd force nonstop motorway traffic to stop*. Are you architecting again? * Unless the junction is called Sherrifhall, Black Cat, Switch Island, Lofthouse or Rownhams.
I saw 'London, New York, Paris' and i thought it was The Porridge Pot song intro 'London, New York, Paris, Norwich Everybody talk about... Hot Porridge!'

i am so happy they settled the dispute and to hear it was the lawyers and not the actual devs who came up with the idea in the first place i actually bought AQR and have done all achievements, because it felt like the right thing to do when it seemed it was going to end
Is this spawning actually semi accurate, or is it a coincidence? That airport is just about where JFK is and the stadium is where Madison Square Garden is. Incidentally, the locations of Matt's bridges into New Jersey are about where the PATH trains cross from WTC and Penn Station.
I'm proud that the developers to the other game realized their mistake, amended it, *and* apologized for it! It's not all the time you see dev teams, large ones especially, actually respect smaller groups, be it their community or other devs.
This is fantastic!! I’m glad I went ahead and bought it before but it’s awesome that you made a difference like this. And people in Texas say activism doesn’t work!
I love AQR. I honestly thought I could do better than RCE with this game, but - just as with PolyBridge - I am learning a great deal about knowing my limits.
Whens motorway matt gunna come around again? Was pretty entertaining to watch you panicking about as traffic piles up. From watching the video it looks really easy, but i know it cant be, i feel like the pause button is your friend in this game tho.
8:42 help me out here with something Matt, or anyone from the UK: Matt says "just about" a lot, like "I just about missed that," or "I can just about afford that," and he seems to mean that he barely missed something, or barely can afford that. Is that a UK/British English vs. American English kind of thing, where the phrase "just about" means the same this as barely? Or is that just a Matt thing? In the US, when we say "just about," we mean almost, as in "I almost missed it" or "I can almost afford it." If you were to use that phrase on this side of the pond in the context he does, you'd confuse people and they'd be like, "what do you mean you just about missed it? You did actually miss it. The square and triangle in the centre that were set to no through traffic early on actually caused more problems, they would have been a good shortcut for airport traffic.
I actually paused the video at 0:32 to read the statement from Dinosaur Polo Club and I gotta hand it to them, that felt like a really good apology.

In a city designed and built by architects, an Engineer has to design an efficient road network to connect everything well
When things get busy, you should pause, wipe out ALL of your roads, then rebuild every road using highway rings (outer loop) and maybe an inner loop.
