- All Quiet Roads 4743 is a game heavily inspired by Mini Metro and Mini Motorways, developed by a single person, but brimming with addictive and fun gameplay! As I was a highway engineer for a decade, it seemed like a great game for me to try out and see how it compares to real life! This is part 3 where I use segregation to beat high scores and discover the secret of why AQR 4743 uses that number!

About All Quiet Roads 4743:
Build roads between various neighborhoods. Congested roads turn amber and then red as traffic slows down. Build more roads. Add cloverleafs, ferries, bridges, and tunnels, getting all your vehicular traffic to where it needs to go.
A vehicle trip is completed when a vehicle reaches its desired destination. Each completed trip adds to your raw score. The raw score is the count of the number of vehicle trips completed. Additionally, your All Quiet Roads score ( AQR ) updates to your current raw score only if there are no roads currently in a red warning state. Your raw score will continue accumulating but it will not become an AQR score until the moment when no roads are red. Red roads can be noisy as motorists honk their horns. All the roads are all quiet only when no roads are red.
All Quiet Roads 4743 is somewhat unique in allowing players to manage traffic on roads that turn red, just like realtime maps we use on real world roads. Red roads are dangerous, because as traffic backs up it will eventually cause neighborhoods to become jammed. When the neighborhood can no longer hold any more newly spawning vehicles the game is over.

So we finally found the story behind the game name, what a cool Easter egg!!

I still wonder what the ufo's are.
Hi
Hi hi
Hi hi there
"I want to try a bit of segregation" -RCE 2022
Just like things should be.
Dont we all?
Segregation IS the key. All the circles and triangles need to be segregated into neighborhoods (using cloverleafs), with each neighborhood going to all 5 semi-unique destinations. The more neighborhoods you make, the longer you'll last
We have to segregate the garbage to seperate the plastic and organic material.
Same tbh
you need to give more alternate options since everyone is going onto 1 central highway which causes problems late game
I wonder if halfway through the game you could delete the whole layout and redo the whole map now that you know what buildings are where. Then you could make a giant round about to divert traffic. Would also be cool if they added a city planner icon that lets you move an item like the airport or stadium to a different part of the map.
I like the city planner idea. Something related, in a whole different game mode, is currently under development.
That could work. Almost like the two stages of Factorio gameplay. Your first factory is a terrible mess whose only purpose is to help you accumulate resources, and your second factory is a beautiful well oiled machine.
Does anyone else want to see RCE play geoguessr and see how often he gets distracted? Probably a bridge review overload.
YES

It is certain.
Yes
More priority needs to be given to the rare locations like the school, hospital and airports.
Less priority should be given to circles and triangles since there all over the map.
Needs to just bulldoze the rare locations when given the opportunity
@@nolanryan2234 no because then that just puts more strain on the already existing rare buildings🙄
Since RCE was playing the Rio level and since he mentioned that in some countries the drivers in the circulatory bit of the roundabout give way to who’s coming in, I’ll add that here in Brazil there are some roundabouts with traffic lights to regulate who gives way to whom. Obviously, this completely defeats the point of the roundabout.
A lot of people call those "traffic circles", and only use "roundabout" for the free flowing kind
In all these traffic games, I have occasionally found it useful to (if the game allows) just delete all the roads and recreate everything from scratch. At that point, things like segregation and problem points suddenly become much more easy to implement (or, at least, to identify).
I feel like you could make good use of Ferry Terminals by making routes to unique/rare locations like the airport and stadium
that wouldn't work, the airport and stadiums are the most demanded buildings
@@alexpym8216 exactly, so you don't have only roads going there, but also ferries, especially for far away sections of the city, so they don't have to cross your entire road system...
You mean *_Faery_* Terminals?
as someone with a WA license plate who now lives very far out of state that easter egg made me so happy & nostalgic
My qualifying exams are in a month and I'm addicted to mini metro. The fact you have shown me this game exists has put me in a precarious position where I want to buy it and play it for hours. But needs over wants. Please continue to make these videos so I can live my engineering joy precariously through you.
I always love this guys vids. Always end up liking it before I even start watching
I believe the solution once you hit that unfixable congestion point is to step back and re-evaluate the network as a whole and try to redesign it from a more logical perspective. The airport and stadium were your main congestions, so having more than one route dedicated to them would have been a major step towards fixing it. All of your highways stopped working when their demand became too high, then everything else clogged up at the same time. More entrances, less intersections.
In essence, it's a fractal funnel. Start with as many arms as you can from the core areas and move to slower routes as you spiderweb out. Two or three highways with minimal intersections and localized roads to "hotspots", like a square to circle road with no through lines. One dedicated cloverleaf highway to the school with one or two smaller entrances for the lower "local" demand. Using roundabouts only on local/low demand areas would help.
He needs to use the damn bulldozer to delete an airport, or stadium and it will clear up as well. Didn’t even use the bulldozer
@@nolanryan2234 There was only one airport and stadium on the map and you can't bulldoze unique items. There has to be a matching shape in the city to bulldoze something.
the airport symbol on the road looks like a X-Wing, so we have proper X-Wings v Tie Fighters on the roads
Complete honesty, you have amazing charisma and you make engineering very understandable and interesting, you should be a teacher irl
"I've got 28 tunnels"
*Schmichael zooms in on 28 highways*
No raise deserved!
14:38 great, now tom scott is gonna show up to make a video about the shortest highways
Tries to use segregation.
2 minutes later.
Abandons segregation and orders spaghetti again.
In germany we have 2 types of roundabouts, 1 where incoming people have to wait and 1 where the people in the roundabout have to wait. The second type is pretty rare tho and is probably caused by historical development and not modern planing
And then there is the Oststadtkreisel in Karlsruhe, which combines both in one roundabout.
@@auser9791 oh that looks like hell
Coming in at 11am right when the vid drops. This is becoming an addiction.
I love how he did a bridge review for a 2d bridge going directly to a school
I'd make a joke of the title, but I think we've extracted all possible funniness from it by now, so I'm just gonna comment for the algorithm
0:19 no wait that’s still just Mini Motorways, you should have said “it’s like Mini Motorways but you have to engineer the noise away and there’s TIE fighters”
I was just watching your last vid and you have already posted again I am pretty sure your the only youtuber that is posting this fast ps I love your videos and hope you keep up the good work
@RealCivilEngineer In italy we have some roundabout where people inside have to give way to people entering the roundabout, ant they works just fine. They are used where one major road is crossing a smaller road. In this way the majority of the traffic just go straight without give way to anybody, and how needs to turn left or right can, or join the major road, can do it thorugh the roundabout
One thing I've noticed is that it seems as though roundabouts cause more problems then they solve when the majority of your traffic at a junction is turning left, rather than going straight or right. They also seem to suffer more when they have more joining roads. As some other people have pointed out, it may be better to just wipe the map clean of roads after a while and rebuild your network, to more thoroughly implement segregated traffic. For instance, the airport seems to be a unique location, meaning you want a good number of connections to it, but also no through traffic if it can be avoided. Reducing the number of junctions you have in general would also probably help, as junctions always slow down traffic flow.
Blitz called you an ARCHITECT!!! Highly insulted by that
YAY I LOVE MOTORWAY MATT!
ME TOO!
WOW THESE GUYS MUST REALLY LIKE MOTORWAY MATT!
OMG ME THREE!
blitz wants war i think, he called you a real civil architect i can barely say the name
I honestly wanna see this game so much more
So in my country, roundabouts have normal traffic rules, so you have to give way to the one coming from the right, which is any car entering a roundabout (because they're counter-clockwise), but every roundabout except for one specific one in Vienna has give way signs at every entry so people tend to believe that cars inside the roundabout have the right of way, but they don't
I just watched a half an hour video of a man building roads and I have no idea what's happening or why I'm so in love with this.
Finally a lore about the game where you build roads
Matt: Someone has built a house on this little islandy thing. It's not really and island, it's connected on the left.
Me: *facepalm IT'S CALLED A PINNINSULA!!!!!
wrong. it's called penisula
RUclips is very smart. This is definitely Mini Motorways, RUclips.
Maybe on some future day when the game is snazzy and polished might suggest AQR on a Mini Motorways video! 😊
you should call the airports the X wings when they're moving around xD
if the people on the roundabout have to give way, it's not a roundabout, it's a rotunda
Mat, you destroyed the most efficient set of trees at 4:02
Pickup Trucks and Bulldozers, the death throws of RCE on All Quiet Roads, you know the level is soon coming to an end.
I am liking these longer videos
ahh yes, segregation at its finest.
You made it so efficient that everyone wanted to use your roadway, even architects. Lol
If people on the 'round-about' are giving way, then it is not a roundabout. Then it is a Traffic Circle. And the reason that Americans hate Roundabouts, cause they don't know the difference between the two. (The roundabout and the Traffic circle)
Lost opportunity. Could have given the bridge to Hogwarts a rate of 9.75.
Gee... it's almost like this game proves that you can't fix traffic by increasing the amount of traffic! I wonder if there are any efficient forms of transportation that condense traffic into a smaller, faster form... 🤔
I love how you're using real life engineer degree stuff I don't know what they give on basic video games.
Regarding the roundabouts. In Germany (and probably many European countries) left has to give the way to right, which means that in a simple roundabout without any traffic signs, the cars on the roundabout would have to give way to the incoming cars. However I have never seen a roundabout without traffic signs that make the incoming traffic wait. So actually I stopped looking at those signs.
Hey Matt, at 12:00 you mention how other countries have roundabouts where the people in the circle have to give way to people entering. Is that a roundabout, or is it a 'traffic circle?' Because when "roundabouts" were introduced to us here in the USA, it wasn't actually roundabouts, but traffic circles, and that's why Americans don't think roundabouts work, nor do most of us like them (I'm not one of those who don't like them FYI, I prefer them over four ways with lights).
I was thinking: RCE should do an AQR bridge review. And my goodness he did it. Thanks RCE!
You need to bridge review the latest forts video from Blitz… you will enjoy it, honest 😇
The fact that in the description there is game: "Mini Motorway" is really strange 😅
Hydroneer devs r fuming rn cus 2 lines got a higher bridge review score than the Bridgepour bridge which who knows how long it took them to make
Segregation is always a great idea isnt it
depends on the context
That's a lot of people leaving school to go to the hospital, and it's not even an US city.
Best RUclipsr ever also you are inspiring me to go to college to be a civil engineer 😁
Bliz called mat a architect in his latest forts video around th 12 minute mark
Blitz called you Real Civil Architect in his latest video. You must start a WAR!!!
The line has been crossed!!
War cry!!!!!
G wagon G wagon G wagon
On the other hand he did do a bridge review
@@lazydroidproductions1087 nop he didn't
So cool that there exists a game based on graph theory!
RCE! Blitz called you an Architect! lol
I’m sitting here like the hospital is the problem just destroy the hospital lol
You should watch Blitz's video today for the bridge review
Can i just say that u r my go to sleep channel not that you r boring but u r playing games that r not hard to understand so my brain sleeps and ur voice is rly calming and ur humor is perfect when u put pp everywhere 😭😭 i love you content keep up the goodwork
So a quick search on that plate AQR4743 (WA) says:
2014 Subaru Legacy
VIN: 4S3BMDN60E20041** (Public info, but I took out the last 2 numbers anyway)
3.6R engine, so that's at least a little fun, but an automatic :(
RCE makes these roads quite efficiently, using clove leave junction , highway , motorway etc but for what , for those architects of people to drive on road and mess up Matt's progression points .....
All Quite Roads can't remain quite for long 😂😅
RCE just made the Rio-Niterói bridge, how accurate lol
Try a bit of like one center interchange and make it a cloverleaf
Blitz said you do bridge reviews as like real civil architect i think am i in the right place?
We should all shout our war cry “G WAGON G WAGON G WAGON” on blitz his channel cuz he called RCE an architect
That AmongUs sound clip scared the hell out of my dog 😅
In the place I live Germany Berlin spandau we have a raund abut with traffic lights so ider the people outside drive first ore the people inside drive first quite interesting
i was already on youtube and saw the vid as soon as it came out
14:08 who the freak wants to go to the stadium from the hospital
I enjoy watching your videos.
This looks like a good game
I’m gonna predict the Easter egg is the worlds strongest road
Here’s a suggestion
Turn everything into road pieces and cover the entire map with road just like what you did in mini motorways
if every junction was a cloverleaf this could be interesting to watch, but very expensive to do
But the cars dont slow down when they're at a junction and since they can take whatever route they want since the whole map is all roads there should be no problems
RUclips 'Blitz' just called you Real Civil Architect in his latest video while doing a bridge review
I like that RUclips thinks that this video is about Mini Motorways
RUclips thinks this is Motor Miniways….. I was thinking is motor miniways more white than green?
Please play “The Enjenir” it was literally made for you!
It is not a roundabout if you have to give way to the people entering. It is a circle intersection or whatever.
"Dragonfly Lady Thing" - RCE 2022
I.went to a roundabout in Paris where people on it give way! Roundabout review........... I GIVE IT 4.20 out of 10!
Real architect move not know what a peninsula is lol
It's a peninsula
If I had a personal plate, it would be either T-65b or Red2
I'm a different type of engineer, but, hear me out. How about, and yes, I know this is rather wild. How about, just for the hell of it, how about creating main veins of double highway that everything else feeds in and out of? Just a thought.
WOOOO 1 MIL AND A QUARTER OF A MILLION NICE
RCE!!! THERE WAS NO DING WHEN YOU SAID THE GAME'S NAME!!!
Try playing MINDUSTRY, it's a 2d base building game with turrets and LASERS
This is a weird mix of metro and motorways
(Me being a sixth grader, future civil engineer or aerospace engineer)… yup! I understand everything he says!
They should add the strongest shape.
Matt please play hostile mars I want its video so badly like now!!!!
Its a very good game no matter if its progress is slow I will watch it even if you post 100 episodes
My faforets are planet crafter, timberborn and hostile mars.
i just downloaded that movie... i never knew it existed.
You rebuilt rio-niteroi bridge hahaha
Blitz called you "Real Civil Architect" in his new video
congrats on winning fps chess lol
Cool vid
