- All Quiet Roads 4743 is a game heavily inspired by Mini Metro and Mini Motorways, developed by a single person, but brimming with addictive and fun gameplay! As I was a highway engineer for a decade, it seemed like a great game for me to try out and see how it compares to real life! This is part 2 where I try using ring roads!

About All Quiet Roads 4743:
Build roads between various neighborhoods. Congested roads turn amber and then red as traffic slows down. Build more roads. Add cloverleafs, ferries, bridges, and tunnels, getting all your vehicular traffic to where it needs to go.
A vehicle trip is completed when a vehicle reaches its desired destination. Each completed trip adds to your raw score. The raw score is the count of the number of vehicle trips completed. Additionally, your All Quiet Roads score ( AQR ) updates to your current raw score only if there are no roads currently in a red warning state. Your raw score will continue accumulating but it will not become an AQR score until the moment when no roads are red. Red roads can be noisy as motorists honk their horns. All the roads are all quiet only when no roads are red.
All Quiet Roads 4743 is somewhat unique in allowing players to manage traffic on roads that turn red, just like realtime maps we use on real world roads. Red roads are dangerous, because as traffic backs up it will eventually cause neighborhoods to become jammed. When the neighborhood can no longer hold any more newly spawning vehicles the game is over.

Roundabout tip:, if all connected roads are highway, the roundabout will be fast too. Especially important for roundabouts on continuing highways, like at 19:05 and 21:09 above the triangle. Just add 1 tile of highway to the side road and it will improve the traffic flow significantly.
I love to think of what it actually means for a circle to spawn without you noticing. Like, someone built a neighborhood and never informed any one, people moved in, and started wanting to go to the stadium but couldnt.
the housing department never informed the traffic department that they approved and built a new housing district
Even though you've lost your leaderboard ranking I have to admit, it's nice that more people are playing. You've made it Matt, you're an influencer, and you've used your platform to make an Indie developers month! Good on ya mate!
RCE's exposure of this game has kept it afloat. That, and any of his videos just make my days go better.
For the issue you were having with the roads connecting to the shapes when too close, the button next to the crafting button allows you to disable that location by location. It also allows you to disallow through traffic!
I’ve been told by a classmate of mine that the traffic of Paris is basically: ‘look mom, no hands!’
we have a shitty mayor and she makes paris traffic terrible
but at least we have a very good public transport
And not American
@@Skibidi_Fortnite11 yeah but fr*nch is worse than american

Commenter: Hey here's a funny little joke about a city
You: AMERICA BAD
Like dude, not everything needs to be about America.
I really like the look of this one more than Mini Motorways. Since there are fewer flashing indicators and clocks counting down, it looks less panic inducing which something I greatly prefer. I also like the different tools available: cloverleaf junction, tow-truck, and bulldozer. I'm gonna end up getting this one and actually play it for more than an hour.
I wish it was less panic inducing! Sadly, it can become pretty frantic. It was unbearable before implementing a pause button.
I would believe this is the 4743rd installment of a game
it would just mean, what, a new one would come out every couple days or so, right?
Either that, or this series is literally the longest-running story game in the history of the earth.
4743 days is two days shy of 13 years,
If a new game would come out every other day this has been an ongoing development for nearly 26 years.
Impressive really, and I also see this as the only logical explanation. You have to appreciate the dedication and passion from these devs.
So Bioshock Infinite is an infinite part of infinite series then
4743rd game?
i remember the first game where u just had to connect caves to other caves, good times
AQR 527 -- this is the minimum AQR necessary for each city's Quiet Roads achievement. If no road is in a red warning state and your raw score is at least 527 you will earn this achievement. AQR 527 is also the threshold for unlocking any following city that was locked when the game first began.
AQR 1581 -- this is the mid level AQR for each city and unlock's the City Flourishes achievement.
AQR 4743 -- this is the highest achievement for each city. Once you accomplish AQR 4743 for a city your AQR score for that city will be added to the leaderboard. Each time you replay a city is another chance for you to post a higher AQR score for that city.
I wonder if that was just the best the devs managed during beta lol
@@xxportalxx. I would think so
Either that or they used a random number genorator.
@@daymonvoisin7153 idk all the numbers are strangely specific, so either they used some obscure statistical analysis, they used their own (or tester's) score data, or yeah I suppose they could have used a random number that felt right (but idk why they wouldn't have rounded them to something nice to look at if they were randomly chosen)
@@xxportalxx.
The other numbers don't really matter. If you want to know how they were chosen.
4743 ÷ 3 = 1581
1581 ÷ 3 = 527
@@ghostderazgriz oooo nice catch, that might mean the whole thing is flipped actually: they may have started with 527 for whatever reason and then designed the difficulty progression off multiples of 3 times that. Idk really hard to speculate off so little info tbh
I was hoping for more of this game! Such a cool twist on the mini metro like mechanics.
I thoroughly enjoy seeing you play all these Indie games, glad you're returning to them! Hope this one can become a full series perhaps.
You can build roads right next to the cities without it connecting and deleting the road by changing the city settings. There's a button for it next to road exchanging.
Matt... you have beaten my Paris score. I take this as a friendly challenge between a civil engineer and a chemical engineer. May the best engineer win!
This game seems kind of like the missing link between Mini Motorways and Freeways. And I really like the weighted amounts of traffic from different types of development as well.
Only slight disappointment is that you don't to see what the cloverleaf actually looks like, and the traffic pattern seems more similar to that of a stack interchange...
tbf, if we were to see an actual clowerleaf, they would have to take up WAY more space than just the single intersection point, meaning there would be a lot of places where you just wouldn't be able to fit them at all then, Intersections like that are big
I think that still makes sense in the game, since highway projects in real life are all about balancing traffic flow and cost/land usage, so it would be helpful to include it in the game.
Once the more important things are done I will make the cloverleaf fade to under the roadways and show a stacked exchange of numerous one ways. It's going to be pretty complex, so I've delayed implementing it until things that affect fun or beauty are all under control.
Oh, good to know that it's under consideration - thanks for the response!
I can imagine Biffa having a field day with all these roundabouts 😂
This game looks interesting. I’m a huge fan of mini motorways so I may give this a try one day. Although, I do wish this game was more esthetically pleasing. It could certainly benefit from a defined color palette and visual continuity in future versions.
9:15 : a ring road you say? Oh my, it's almost like you're recreating the Péripherique! :p
You can control if roads connect to a shape when your roads are really close by clicking the button next to the trade button, it also allows you to stop through traffic on shapes
Quite a few US cities have motorways (highways) that loop around the higher-density downtown areas with a couple motorways cutting through the center. Columbus, Ohio is a good example of this, (I'm from Ohio which is why I think of this first. Certainly are better examples out there).
Indianapolis too. We're called the "Crossroads of America" for a reason! 😜
You play the games that interest me most. Time to go back and finish my engineering degree.
If you click the button next the the trade menu button, you can set up "orders" for the destinations, like not allowing traffic to pass through them, or not auto-connecting to nearby roads
I wonder... With the bulldozer... can you delete the airport or the stadium and those completely get thrown out of the game? I mean, it would take longer to get a score, but you'd have lost the tiles which only one access exists...
You can delete it as long as there's another one in the game. So if you had two stadiums you could delete one. Which is why he couldn't do it in this game. Also I'm not sure if it would lessen the demand, so now he just has all the people going to one destination instead of two and clogging up the roads more, maybe.
If you wanted to make an accurate representation of Paris, you'd have red roads all day every day. And way more honking.
And a small forest full of prostitutes.
Next to the trading-icon, there's a button which will enable you to block traffic going through buildings, which will then make you able to continue to use highways in stead of slow one-way roads. Also, next to the "block traffic passing through" option on a building, there's an option to disable roads automaticly being connected to a road, unless you specificly draw a road towards it. This will make you draw roads closer to buildings. Some of the road tiles will then get a red dot, which will indicate the points which would normally be automaticly connected to that building. Give the options a try. You can thank me later.
4743 is the score that enters you into the leaderboards, since you wanted to know what it meant
The button next to the trade button allows you to stop specific instances of shapes from autoconnecting to roads next to them and it also allows you to stop through traffic for specific instances of shapes too. No need to use oneway roads to stop through traffic.
At 6:02 there are a bunch of triangles and circles at the right site. because it literally doesnt matter where they go, you could just habe 1 road without crossings ect from a triangle to a circle, and then 1 road from those to leading to the other more unique shapes.
Day 7 of asking RCE to play satisfactory
I think he would love this game.
Yh but it probably wont
Dont worry bud ,,i am with you ,lets push the like button
Same
day 1 of agreeing with you
These kinds of games are really fun but they remind me how hard it is to stream games, because you always end up with big traffic backlogs because a new node appeared and you didn't notice until it had substantial buildup, and then when you connect it, all the outflow overloads a system that might have handled regular traffic flow.
20:26 Here I would have made a bridge bypass for the traffic from the right towards the roundabout on the left, maybee with oneway-road since only one direction was really causing problems
Fun drinking game: every time he’s says “roundabout” you take a shot
Awesome! I was hoping you would play this again after seeing all the updates it got since I bought it after your first video about it!
According to their steam description:
AQR 4743 -- this is the highest achievement for each city. Once you accomplish AQR 4743 for a city your AQR score for that city will be added to the leaderboard. Each time you replay a city is another chance for you to post a higher AQR score for that city.
As for why they chose to use 4743 I have no idea. The other achievemt levels use similar arbitrary numbers as well: 527 and 1581. Perhaps there is some meaning for the creator of the game but nothing I can see myself.
Someone above has pointed out that 1581 is 4743/3 and 527 is 1581/3 so they involve tripling your score each time, how they picked the 527 or 4743 to start with, who knows?
So, I noticed that there was only one airport and one stadium that spawned, but both were associated with considerable traffic. It might be worth testing if using the bulldozer to delete a unique building that has lots of traffic will cause another one to spawn, or if it will reduce the traffic.
I think 4743 stands for GRID, based off of the number pad thing you used to have to do to type on phones
Today, sorting out France, tomorrow, Stralburg! I hear they have an Open Sewer that needs taken care of.
Could one ways be used to create dedicated on ramps? That would allow you to create some form of dedicated airport/stadium roads next to frontage roads going to the other items.
the way that you can trade resources adds a new layer of planning
in the US there are alot of houses on highways in suburban/rural areas. just no houses on freeways
Your vids are AMAZING! Continue the great work. 😃
TOTALLY AGREE! I was laughing like crazy while making notes.
everytime i see matt post i have to see if its new become his thumbnails look so alike lol
Look up houston tx. 3 ring roads. They just completed the biggest one
0:41 I wasn't expecting to see my name pop up in this video, that's for sure.
If a housing or any common building spawns very far away, do you even have to connect it? Maybe it would be smarter to wait until your city grows and the house that used to be very far away from everything is now closer to the rest of your road system and it's less effort to connect it.
Obviously a unique building like an airport should be connected right away. But for housing or business I don't think you have to.
you know hes british when he puts roundabouts everywhere
4743 is telephone code for grid?

7 - pqrs

Nope doesn't seem like it. Would have to be 47774443
@@Fay7666 depends how picky you are being, there is (was?) a food supply company in the UK called 3663 which telephone translated as food.
And in the US, at least according to movies, they would give phone numbers as 555-joyous or whatever, with each letter representing a single press of the key on which that letter appeared...

i live in a city where we just finished construction on our ring road. My city sadly has a low Engineer count... lol
A game you might like to look at playing; Power to the People. Plays into your civil engineer/city building game penchant. Just about finished it all on hard. Getting competitive high scores can be quite the challenge. Check it out!
i swear i've seen more roundabouts in this video than in my entire life
21:30 wow, that's a lot of vechicles!
One way roads are used to free up traffic. The one way road are two lanes instead of one so it’s like a better motorway but made manually with the two roads.
They really made a lot of improvements since AQR 3862.
you made my day, well technically night but whatever
I think the lack of multiple means of egress make traffic in several places. Having at least two roads from each shape should relieve the issues too, right?
If you haven't already, I'd love to see you play Oxygen Not Included!
Can you cluster then together in 3s? Like a square circle and triangle all joined and group them like that? And with the other "shapes"? I dunno
I miss the old outro :( Why'd you get rid of it?
(Also the suggested videos cover up the last 10-20 seconds of video now)

This game is surprisingly intense.
Wouldn't using one way roads to make circling ring roads work well? You could save on motorways that way and have relatively faster traffic since there's no opposing traffic?

What happens when you use each individual shape as a junction with no more than 4 roads coming off of them? Kinda like using slip roads to connect each individual shape?
THANKS RCE, you f**cked up "el palacio de cristal" to me, literally the glass Palace, a beautiful glass construction in "Retiro" (a park in Madrid). I'll NEVER AGAIN enjoy the expositions they do inside such an architectural monument
This game looks good but it has such an inconsistent artstyle that it really bugs me.
yup. it's a work in progress. I either had to release it as-is and try to get some sales or give up and take a regular job again. Some parts of it are downright ugly. Other things are just starting to look good, It's still iffy which solution to generating income is best but I really hope to continue development of aqr4743.
@@allquietroads4800 Oh hey dev! It's okay, don't pay attention to Jam, real gamers know that the uglier a small game is, the more likely it is to have a robust system. Some people are blessed with both programming and art skills, but most are not! I mean, just take dwarf fortress as the prime example! You can focus on the art when and if you get around to it ^^
yeah ring roads are great and all, doesn't change the fact that i hate driving on them over here with a burning passion

I felt that this game has something more realistic than "mini motorway", I don't know what and I don't know why xp
Castle of Glass? Sounds like it was designed by an Architect.
Apparently, 4743 is the amount of monthly users in June 2022
Who knew?
4743.. look at an old phone and it's "GRID", maybe? Like road grid? (I'm old and used to have to text that way)
they should make it 4347. It's a multuple.of a nice number, 69
also, no cloverleaf=sadge
If you are using 1 way roads you only need one at the beginning and end because they cant turn around half way through
I mean if you want to talk about how things are done IRL, I don't see a whole lot of roundabouts in the middle of motorways ;)
It’s a very fun traffic management game? Is there another kind of traffic management game?
4743 is the highest score you need on each level to gain the achievements. It was likely chosen arbitrarily.
I was waiting for a bridge review
Version 2609 will always be the best it really when down hill at 3378 and we don’t speak of version 4569.
So mini motorways but visually more like mini metro?
Hey Matt, will we get a new video on the airplane/airport game again? Also curious about how Lawn Barber is doing? Is Kiss My Grass still a viable business?
Matt will be pleased to learn that the dot over the letter i is called a tittle. (The stroke underneath is the jot.)
You mean as it says in the video?
@@DerekHartley I didn't notice that - I heard Matt wondering what the name for the dot was. I must have blinked and missed it.
What happened to RCE? No bridge reviews while having multiple bridges…
It sucks that it has to be only after the need that a ring road is viable, I'd be having rings everywhere... & IRL
Did the graphics change?
