  • All Quiet Roads 4743 is a game heavily inspired by Mini Metro and Mini Motorways, developed by a single person, but brimming with addictive and fun gameplay! As I was a highway engineer for a decade, it seemed like a great game for me to try out and see how it compares to real life!

    About All Quiet Roads 4743:
    Build roads between various neighborhoods. Congested roads turn amber and then red as traffic slows down. Build more roads. Add cloverleafs, ferries, bridges, and tunnels, getting all your vehicular traffic to where it needs to go.
    A vehicle trip is completed when a vehicle reaches its desired destination. Each completed trip adds to your raw score. The raw score is the count of the number of vehicle trips completed. Additionally, your All Quiet Roads score ( AQR ) updates to your current raw score only if there are no roads currently in a red warning state. Your raw score will continue accumulating but it will not become an AQR score until the moment when no roads are red. Red roads can be noisy as motorists honk their horns. All the roads are all quiet only when no roads are red.
    All Quiet Roads 4743 is somewhat unique in allowing players to manage traffic on roads that turn red, just like realtime maps we use on real world roads. Red roads are dangerous, because as traffic backs up it will eventually cause neighborhoods to become jammed. When the neighborhood can no longer hold any more newly spawning vehicles the game is over.

    The Tow Truck option looks like a trap to me. You boosh the trapped cars out of existence, which also means you don't get points for them, and you don't solve the issue causing the traffic, leading to your network clogging right up again.
    The Bulldozer is a brilliant feature though. That one actually lets you control your network and remove a pesky problem causer.

    • @sintanan469
      @sintanan469 2 года назад +85

      The tow truck is a quick fix when making adjustments to your network because you can't remove roads that are occupied by vehicles. The problem is Matt didn't try to fix the network.
      It also allows squeezing out those extra points at the end because you cannot bank points if you have danger or warning traffic.

    • @normalchannel2185
      @normalchannel2185 2 года назад +23

      the tow truck could be used as the last stand. if you think that your game's over, then just nuke every thing, and convert it all to tow trucks to gain maybe a 1000 more score

    • @GummieI
      @GummieI 2 года назад +11

    • @drowzypollinator640
      @drowzypollinator640 Год назад +2

      I know in mini motorways, you often have the problem that a road change solution is too little too late because there's already a stack of cars that will inevitably cause you to fail. So even if your change would theoretically succeed under normal conditions, the current traffic can cause you to fail. The tow trucks allow you to clear those abnormal conditions, so that you can get your solution up and running quickly. If you were in a disadvantageous position before you made a change, it allows you a chance to catch back up, instead of having to stay ahead of the curve almost always. Of course, you can use it wrong, and there are a limited number, so it's not OP.

  • @Nalehw

    You figured it out a bit toward the end but you had too many single locations (Hospital, Airport, Stadium, and Office Building) with only one lane of access. The producers (circles and triangles) were trying to get to those single locations from all directions. Without multiple paths (preferably segregated) they were all filing into the "main line" highway which meant that you had N sources of production cramming into one road. Even with highways you would eventually tap out the maximum capacity and by feeding everyone into one main line you reached it quicker than desired. A few groupings of places with dedicated lines to the airport would have made things a bit easier since the ones on their way to the airport could go there and the ones that needed to get to the other single places could bypass the airport and go direct to the other places. A pairing of circles and triangles would mean that the only ones trying to come out of there would be the ones going to the single places so maybe having a group of 2 or three triangles and circles each piling into a motorway junction with direct motorways to the main receivers would have eased your burden a bit.

    • @agilemind6241
      @agilemind6241 2 года назад +2

      Another big mistake was leaving the highway to the single locations in the middle so the local traffic was stuck mixed in with the single location traffic.

Iono if this would work. I'm assuming you can avoid connecting everything together to limit the number of intersections.

    • @stevieinselby
      @stevieinselby 2 года назад

      Definitely don't connect all the circles together and then funnel *all* the circle traffic through a single junction - that would be catastrophic!
      Ideally for segregation you would have separate networks each containing one of each type of building ... but that doesn't work if you only have one airport and one stadium compared with dozens of houses. Maybe try to have neighbourhoods that connect houses and offices etc, that then only link to the airport, stadium etc and don't link directly to other neighbourhoods?

Perhaps having to design specific paths for them as well and how to intermingle them as they try to journey their way across the town, add in public transit lines as well with bus routes and you'd get a mess of complexity in terms of the game as a whole but it would actually be a true enjoyment for people who like this genre. From the looks of it, if the majority of your traffic is going to be going more than halfway around the roundabout, it's probably better to use a cloverleaf, while a roundabout it better when the majority of traffic at a junction is moving half or less around the roundabout. Hey RCE I just found out the game places markets if your score is not yet high and start getting harder in 1000 points so at the start make the road but don’t yet connect it to the market shop then wait til timer half way because you will have a chance to get more houses I always get more houses so after timer half way connect it and you have a free upgrade with only 1 market spawning and connect the road to the market but connect the road as well to the timer market

    I think the trick is to actually understand to use the passovers as often as possible.
    you have so many streets left, so you could easily add way more streets with the passovers and that way you can also force them to take the route you want.
    Your routes dont have to be fast, they only have to not clog up.
    Step one play the game you did as you did before
    Step 2 delete the entire system and make as many self sufficent systems as possible, connecting them all to the major points seperately using the passovers so they cant connect to each other

  • @ruud9761

    I doubt that making roads into freeways frees them up. It just makes the cars travel faster, but the capacity of the road is the same. I'm not an infrastructure engineer though so I might be wrong.

    • @beastateverythin
      @beastateverythin 2 года назад

      It helps get cars through the intersection because they need to wait until there’s enough space to move. Faster cars means it takes less time

    • @ruud9761
      @ruud9761 2 года назад

      @@beastateverythin But that does not help when intersections clog, cause then they are as fast as any car on a normal street. So highways seem to only help when there is no clogged up intersections, which goes against the principle of the game considering this is meant for you to lose eventually.

    • @beastateverythin
      @beastateverythin 2 года назад +1

      @@ruud9761 that’s a good point and well taken. I was playing this game a lot yesterday and another benefit that I’ve found from highways is the ability to control the AI pathfinding by using road hierarchy. But that is only useful if you don’t make every single road a highway.

    • @ruud9761
      @ruud9761 2 года назад

      @@beastateverythin Yes I can see that, since this is faster the AI would probably prioritize this over normal streets. So that seems like a good use.
