Congratulations on your semi retirement. I retired with the help of my NHS pension at 59 and best thing I ever did. Love retirement. Always busy but a lot of the time busy doing things I want to do like sewing. Enjoy. You deserve it. Xx
Congrats on the retirement. I'm still working at 67 😢,but one day. Looking forward to seeing the cassie dress,SOI patterns are very generous with fabric requirements, may be you won't need that much fabric, just a thought.❤❤
gorgeous makes! looking forward to the Margo being finished and the pink Jackson suits you perfectly and I love a high neck so will remember that! The retreat sounds amazing< I love Alnwick, have a fab time!!!
Congrats on semi retirement. I just finished week 2 of retirement. I thought I would get more sewing accomplished but I ended up doing other things with friends and hubby. I worked at a childcare centre for 20 years, and while i love being home, I do find I miss the little ones and many of my coworkers. I am going to do some occasional supply work. I really hope by the end of 2024 I will have used up a big chunk of my stash, fabric and yarn. The ironic thing is that I've put myself on a new fabric ban for the year, and between Christmas and retirement gifts, I have over $300 in gift cards to my local fabric store. Good thing there is no expirery date! I think your pinafore is going to be lovely!
Congrats on the semi retirement Alison hope you enjoy it. I retired at 64 at Christmas after 42yrs, not missing work at all Your pinafore looks great as does your Jackson top, although I don't really like what I term sweat shirts, I know I'm weird!!! Looking forward to your next vlog x
Congrats on the retirement and the new washing machine! I got a new machine in the autumn and it's actually slower than my old one but it washes much better. And it has a glass door so I did indeed watch the first load with fascination lol.
Exciting times ahead for you. Congratulations Alison. Enjoy the retreat. You had me smiling about watching machine. No sewing going in here just now but have lots planned. Have a great week
It’s okay if you can’t sew anything for the week really I don’t know how you do it 😊 You're funny about the washing machine watching the new machine 😂 have a great weekend
Well you're a tonic as always. Well done on your semi retirement. As I've discovered "retirement is hectic , busy and certainly enjoyable "🎉🎉. It's great to see someone as experienced as you makes a few mistakes!.
lovely to watch your chat and hear what you have been up to - looking forward to seeing you in your Margo but I think you are right don't put pressure on yourselves to finish something just to show us - we can wait lol just enjoy the process x
Hi Alison, great vlog as always. Exciting news about your semi retirement, I’m sure you’ll love it. I left work 15 months ago, I’ve no regrets at all, hence my new sewing hobby which I’m loving, I do feel a bit isolated but I’m still trying to pluck up the courage to attend a sewing social. Happy new washing machine!! ❤😊
Congratulations on your up and coming semi retirement. I was fortunate enough to be able to give up work in 2012 and I have no idea how on earth I ever found time to fit in a full time job 🤣. You made me laugh with the new washing machine. I can remember the first automatic front loading machine my mum and dad bought. Mum and I did just sit there and watch the first cycle from start to finish. 😃
LOLwith the washing machine head roll 😂😂😂. Yes we all do it! 😂😂. I loved the high neck on the pink top - great tip. Looking forward to seeing your finished Margo. Congrats on the retirement plans. You are so right about maintaining social contact though. I retired just before lockdown and that was not easy. Sounds like you will keep yourself busy. Have a great week. 😊 Lynne
Thrilled for you about your news. I retired at 58 and is the best thing ever. I agree the Margo is a complex make, it’s such a worry as it has to be made up before you can try it on. I love mine and have worn it a few times already. X
Any progress is interesting to hear about. I’m making slow but steady progress on the patina blouse in a beautiful silk. It has tested my patience and nerves!!!
Oh wow! Enjoy you partial retirement! I just ordered the Jackson tee as it’s unisex so I can make for my son, I enjoyed the arbutus robe so know it will fit him nicely! 😊
Happy semi retirement you will wonder just how you had time for going to work. Thank you so much for not having tons of makes, I honestly don’t know how people do it. I have been trying since beginning of January to complete one wearable garment😮might be third time lucky and I am retired too😅. I don’t have an overlocker well to be honest not that friendly with my machine, but can you put ribbing on with just a machine. My inside therefore not very tidy. Who is Granny ? Who helped you with the Margo ❤
In USA I retired at 65, then worked part time until 68…. I enjoyed working, should have continued because I don’t get out much and really need less clothing 😢
Semi-retirement sounds good. I think you said you will leave your current job. Is that not full retirement? I enjoy my job and still have a mortgage so not ready to retire yet, but it isn't that far off. I look forward to following your journey. Maybe some elements could fit into the Dotty Lifestyle vlogs? The dungarees look great, as do your plans, sewcial and otherwise. I am making some gifts - oven gloves, tea cosies, lap quilts. I like making and giving them, but there's more hand sewing (bindings) than I like, so it's slightly slow progress, but I think my hand sewing skills are improving, which is nice.
Thanks for taking the time to make the vlogs, I really appreciate them. Lovely news that you are going to get more time to yourself to do what you want with :) What is that top you are wearing? I'm sorry if you've mentioned it in a previous video, but it looks really lovely. Which pattern is it?
I did the same kind of worry in this week. But mine was... Was it going to be to tight? And then was it going to be... too big? It was too big. I was going to accept it and then I changed my mind. Stop over and see that video because it's a little funny to me.😅
Congratulations on your semi retirement. I retired with the help of my NHS pension at 59 and best thing I ever did. Love retirement. Always busy but a lot of the time busy doing things I want to do like sewing. Enjoy. You deserve it. Xx

You can put ribbing on with a machine use a stretch or super stretch needle and use Maraflex thread :)
