OMG! K.K. was frickin destroying it on this version!
Yes KK obliterates it!!
Kk does what every EVERY guitar player, kid or adult, dreams to do on stage!!!
Incredible
One of the most insane vocal performances I’ve ever seen. It would be impressive at any age, but Rob was around 60 at the time I think?
On this live Rob is 54 year old
@@AdrianBumbarov I think that here he was 58 or 59
He was 58 here
Rob was 58 here, so yeah, basically 60
Yes,58... It's from the 30 anniversary of British Steel in 2009.
"Rib of Adam all other Metal vocalists are made from" .... Exactly. That earned my subscription!
Same. Best comment ever on Rob's voice.
One of my favourite versions of this fantastic song. So powerful in every dimension and just completely charged, what a performance from the whole band! No other metal band can compare with JP over 50 years.
Heavy Metal Master Class
He's so good at singing my jaw is on the floor together with yours Charlie
You need to get a winch ready to get your jaw off the floor! KK's solo, Glenn & Ian's guitar and bass, Metal God Rob, perfection!
If youre impressed with this...You NEED "The Sentinel" Live in Dallas Tx 1986
Soon maybe he will check this...
I heartily endorse "The Sentinel" from that night as well. He made insanely high notes look so easy that entire show.
Love that one!
The sentinel in 1984 at some shows was even better but all of 1986 and 1988 had constant unbeatable performances.
I've seen Judas Priest twice and they blew me away both times. Just amazing
I've been a huge JP fan since mid 1970's and this performance is freaking outstanding. KK's best solo ever..
KK’s GUITAR SOLO DID ANYBODY NOTICE
KK's best solo ever hands down
Best solo I have ever heard to be honest.
When Rob screams it is like a bomb exploding ! Love this band so much xx
And this was actually during a period of time that Rob was having trouble with his voice. He is a consummate frontman and I don't think most folks were any the wiser but yeah he talked about it after the fact. This vocal delivery is much more compressed than it was in the decade prior. It is mind-blowing that he even chose to put vibrato on that gut-wrenching scream at the end.Rob truly is the metal god.
Back problems caused the vocal issue.
Yeah, he couldn't take the very hight tones as clear as he used to, but the low tones were still as clean an smooth as ever.
Actually he sings this song even better now!
P.S: In this version he's more on pitch than he's ever been in the early 80s during the first verses! He always seemed to strain around the G#4 area in performances such as the live vengeance, donington '83, and US festival
I was quite happily surprised at how good he was singing on the Firepower tour.
@@skovol007 Definitely. When he sang Saints in Hell I was like what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw priest live in Hamilton 2 months ago I couldn’t believe how good halford sounded. I saw them around 2014 and 2018 and by far the best he sounded was 2 months ago
I'm reading Halford's book atm. And he was drinking way too much from 80-85. After he stopped drinking he got compliments from Tom Allom on how great his singing was. He also sounded fantastic this month when I saw him in Finland.
Gents, check out his live performance of Beyond the Realms of Death in Moline from a few weeks ago, dude's still killing it
This song is from Sad Wings Of Destiny from 1976. Listen from where this song came to where it is now. Always been a masterpiece
Rob is KING. do some of his early live stuff. Epic.
This is actually my first time hearing this version of the song and now I enjoy it just as much as the version from unleashed in the East.
Rob is the metal god! Oh my that voice!
Metal God. He earned the title.
Hahahaah, man! Precious watching you losing your mind to how good this is. Incredible! At every level! Hahaha
best live version of this song ever!!!
I give you 10/10 for choosing THIS live-version,with them :.Judas Priest at their FUCKING BEST ..! Thumbs up to ya ! Cheers from Stockholm,Sweden & Priest-fan since 30 yrs back.
Have you heard the original studio version? He hit high notes that no one thought possible. I highly suggest you do that to hear the difference and the amazing notes he used to it.
Rob prowling the back of the stage like a caged beast.
I've seen just about every hard rock and metal band live, and no one touches Judas Priest. The instrumentals are so thick, heavy and loud but at the same time so clear, tight, and precise. Halford's screams are actually physically painful. It shreds your ears. But the most impressive thing about a Priest concert is that even though it's SO fucking loud your ears do not ring. It's because the sound is high quality. There's no white noise. If you leave a concert and your ears have that swooshing sound, it means the sound sucks
What a performance. Saw them live in 2018 and it’s was bloody unbelievable
Now you know why he is called "the metal god"
I do believe Rob actually has that term "Metal God" copywrited. ©
06:10 Yes they can play great guitar solos.
I love that "speechless" look man! I've seen them Many times in my life, from the days of Screaming for Vengeance in 81, to Fire Power in 2018! Unlike most of "popular" (poser bands), during that era, they still headline. I mean the "pretty glam" looking bands, you know bands like Poison, Motley Crew types. Sure they were good, but those bands try to re live their old glory's. Where as The Mighty Judas Priest, is still trudging along, and still mowing them over.
saw them a few month back before Richie Faulkners heart attack and Rob looked sharp as ever. Blew my mind.
Rob Halford The Metal God himself!!! 💣💥
DUDE THIS IS PURE MOLTEN METAL
It's insane that he still has the ability to do that, even Halford himself admitted he can't sing like he used to
Saw them so many times and I love them. Halford was an opera singer and he's amazing
KK was wild for this lengthy guitar solo that night - freekin brilliant - pity he left the group.
You picked a great version of that song. I would however almost prefer if Rob Halford kept more of the clean screaming you can hear on the original or even on the ‘live’ version on their early live album, Unleashed in the East (which may well have been ‘unleashed in the studio’).
He does scream more cleanly live now
I thought screaming as a form of distortion? How could it possibly be “clean” which is the exact opposite?
@@Rosannasfriend It's a matter of degree I supposed. If you have the version of Victim of Changes on Unleashed in The East, and listen to Halford's scream - "Victim of Changes!" - after the breakdown and build, and before the 2nd guitar solo, it is a much cleaner scream than this. Whether by choices or because 'changes came over his body', Halford has modified the scream. Of course, that was over 40 years ago (I can't believe I'm saying that!). Bother are great - Priest and Rob Halford are great - but I loved the way he used to use that scream.
@@Drinckx2 Unleashed is still one of the best versions of this song, live or otherwise IMO. TBH, it's how I still judge every version of this song. As you said, I'm sure there were some studio touches added to that album (as most live albums). But for the most part, it was recorded live. I worked a Preist show when he first returned and he still sounded as he did on the album. One thing I've noticed from him (and a few others from that era) they know what, when and where notes to hit that everyone is accustom to hearing. That's what makes great performers great. This band is one of the greats. Not many of those old guard left that can do what they do live. Not at their age anyway. Maybe a handful.
@@bettyrose959 Thanks for your informed comment. I think ‘Unleashed’ is still a high watermark for great live albums and, when I want to listen to those Priest songs, those are the versions I listen to. Same with early UFO and Strangers in the Night, or Thin Lizzy with Live and Dangerous. Those performances capture something extra over the studio versions.
You should listen/watch him do this in the 80's or 90's. They put this performance to shame.🤘😎
"Rib of Adam." I like that. Or maybe that friendly snake?
But I DO try this at home...with the original studio recording :)
agree
You know been nominated for the rock n roll hall of fame numerous times. Again nominated this year. Why not? I mean come on. Should have been there along time of go. What a shame!
I agree totally. Seen these guys 20 plus times and they are one of the best bands all time. Killer live. All the bs that's been getting in HOF and they aren't in Fn joke
They are in now!
@@jonmallek7746 yes sir they are. About time.
Black Sabbath came up with the first of RAW (heavy metal) materials....
Judas Priest chiseled and polished the heavy metal statue!!!
it's kinda crazy to me that he still sounds this good at his age considering his singing style, from the 80s and especially 90s onward was and is anything but healthy. The man is inhuman.
I 100% do try this not at home, but in my car everyday omw to work and back haha.
This is Rob in his 60s, check out the live performance in 1983 from US Fest to see how it sounded in his prime.
Excellent!
Awesome reaction 🤟
What's crazy is that he sounds better at age 70 than 58.
look up live version of this song when they were young ,that high note is unreal :o LOL
Black Sabbath made the blue print and Judas priest perfected it.
Nice to be so early to such a great video
Wow! It's been quite some time since I played that record. The late 80's I think. Very different from when they were young though, of course. Btw, a syringe of adrenaline will probably lead to a numb feeling. It's used as local sedative when operating on the skin and direct sublayers. Well, I'm nerding out on you! :D Thanks again.
One of the funniest things about Judas Priest is that when the band was first formed back in 1969, none of these members where in the band. Not even Rob. It was 5 different guys. It was surprising to me when first found this out. Then when their first album came out in 1974 which was titled Rocka Rolla, none of the founding members were in the band anymore. By then it was Rob, K.K. Glen and Ian. My favorite drummer Dave Holland didn't join until 1979 and then that same lineup was together for 10 years, which that's what I always thought was the original lineup.
1981 I found a discount cassette titled Sad Wings of Destiny. The rest is history!
It’s very loud kick ass Seen this tour WOW
He will never be duplicated. He is 70 and still touring.....wtf. Sorry, but he is the standard every other singer in this genre needs to judged against.
Wish I was at this performance OMG
You mention Ian Hill being the 'founding member,' which isn't true. Formed in '69, the original Priest had a completely different lineup, featuring Al Atkins on Vocals. They went through several member changes, but, finally, broke-up when their record label (the one that had signed them to a three record deal) imploded in '70. Later that year, Atkins joined a band called Freight (which had k.K. Downing and Ian Hill), which would later take the Priest name. Atkins would leave in a couple years, and Tipton and Halford would join.
Someone type in the chat for Ian Hill..But most people dont know the story around Al Atkins and how Priest was formed...But this is good information.
I had the same look on my face during that guitar solo
I can't listen the original version anymore, KK's solo is just too fucking amazing here.
Halford is now 72 and he is at the top of his game still. Super-natural like Manowars Eric Adams (same age)
And this is why they are Metal God's 🤘🤘🤘
Why not? Only issue I have are my neighbors so I try to keep it in the lower register when they're at home.
Then I hit all the notes!!!!! 😲
I don't buy into what is said about Ian being the only original member, KK, Rob and Glenn were all on the first album, that's where their true legacy began.
My personal Judas Priest favorites are the following:
Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance

Judas Priest - The Sentinel

JUDAS PRIEST RULES!!!!!!!!!
perfect🤟🤟
In my opinion, and I have been a Priest fan since 1980, is that vocally this is not Rob at his peak. Do live videos from 74-79 and 84-88. That is Rob at his peak for Priest.
Have a listen to Run of the Mill, off their debut album, Rocka Rolla, Written by Glenn Tipton to showcase Robs vocal range, amazing stuff, also off that album Dying to meet you and Hero
Please remember I believe this is an encore and he had already been singing the whole show and it was at a time when he was having trouble with his voice.
To good 👍😊
If you want to see a completely different side of this band check out Run of the Mill from their debut album Rocka Rolla. It's a pretty complex composition and I think you would find it worth your while. In ROTM song they are at the beginning of their career but even there they exhibit virtuousity. It's a moving and fascinating listen. I can say without hyperbole that it's a masterpiece.
This reaction in a nutshell: "*stunned silence* uh... no notes.*
Rob is probably in top 3 all time metal vocalists
5:36 KK starts his rampage
It sounds like Rob is really straining on some of the high notes here, which is to be expected when you get older. You should have heard him in his younger days and you would really be able to tell the difference between the two. He would go into those screams and they would be clear with no rasp at all and he could go really high. Quite a difference.
Check out the version on Epitaph Blu Ray. His high notes are better than here.
There s rasp in some others versions .
Beign more hard edged as they often do maturing ( Dio, Biff , Coverdale ...) isn't a crime.
We talk about heavy metal , agressive music .
Não falo inglês mais seu enquadramento e perfeito a imagem da banda em destaque em primeiro plano ok Parabéns
Crunch crunch
You should listen to Painkiller, Free wheel burning , beyond the realms of death., riding on the wind, turbo lover, blood red skies, and judas rising. To get a complete idea of his range. And
There is only one god, the Metal God🤘🏻
Like fine wine they grew better with time.
JUDAS PRIEST THE GODS OF METAL...
If you had to show aliens what metal is, this is the clip.
Lemmy always said how the fuck referring to Rob
that was a compliment
rob halford is an original member,so is ian hill....and glen tipton is stil in the band......his sickness dont let him tour
Please try Desert Plains live 1982 from Priest Live Vengeance. His vocal is out of this word good.
Good Reaction. You shoul'd react to judas priest - beyond the realms of death live
🤘🏼🤘🏼
Black metal scream version Rob.
So demonic from hell !
thank you Lord for bringing me up in this 80s/90s generation
Rob is the best Heavy Metal singer period.
KK Hil and Tipton best team combination
Drummer first to double base heavy.
Watch Rob before 86 when he still took drugs, even better 👍🏻
Rob halford glenn tipton kk downing ian hill scott travis amazing heavy metal gods!!!
Freewheel burning
Rapid Fire
Painkiller
Turbo Lover
Love Bites
You Got another thing coming
The whole British steel album
Defenders of the Faith
Rob Halford completely lost his voice nowhere near what it used to be so sad😢
Listen to Victim of Changes on Unleashed in the East album. Way better,of course he was much younger.
Beat this dare you
Rob was having some issues with his vocals at this time, but it's still an amazing performance. Not what it was 30 years earlier, but that's to be expected.
You should have watched this Live in San Bernardino 1983, fantastic version, way better than this in my opinion because it was more raw.
Rob is God. Ozzy great 👍.. Lemmy.. awesome.. but Rob is the best voice in metal
When he eas younger he was of course better
