1st time I saw Judas Priest, Iron Maiden opened for them. How cool is that?

Screaming For Vengeance/Number Of The Beast. Saw them in September '82 (don't remember the exact date) at Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo MI.
From what I understand, Iron Maiden had played various dates in the US prior to this, but hadn't actually done a proper US tour until the tour with JP

sopwithsnoopy The first time I saw Priest was on their Defenders of the Faith tour and a band called Kick Axe opened for them. Not nearly as cool as what you saw. My coolest concert was a New Year’s Eve concert in Phoenix called New Years Evil with Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth and was headlined by Black Sabbath. Awesome!🤘🏻

Memorial Day weekend, 35 years ago. I had just graduated from High School and to celebrate, my friends and I went to see our hero's perform on "Heavy Metal Sunday" at the US Festival. It was about 105F degrees out and we were 15 feet from the stage, center. The lineup was; Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osborne, Triumph, Scorpions and Van Halen. It was a day I will never forget! Thank's for the flashback.

I was 12 years old living in Orange Park, FLA listening to the US Festival on my tiny am/fm clock radio around 10:00 pm back in May 1983.. Feeling like I was missing out on life. Waiting for Van Halen to come on, VH was everything to a young man circa 1983. But as I have gotten older this version of Judas Priest Victim of Changes is what metal was all about circa '83. Priest in there prime.

Having seen Priest several times in concert, the first of which was way back in July 1980 (5th row seats!), I can honestly say there's no such thing as a bad Judas Priest concert. In fact, JP sounds truer to their album versions than any other band. Always entertaining!! And this song is always one of the highlights of every concert I've seen of them!

  • @jakekenny3399

Truly a golden moment in their career....what Donington solidified for Priest in the UK back in '80, this show did for them in '83 in the States. When you're that big to be in front of 300,000+ doing almost a whole set, you've made an impact that won't go away anytime soon!

Hey guys good job. Just had to comment about what you said about what it is that Judas Priest has that makes you go wow that's it and gives you that balance. I truly believe Rob in particular just has a gift from God and his music is literally anointed. I saw them in '83 or '84 and it was just the best concert I've ever been to.

totally agree ...nothing worse than trying to have some one listen to metal song and all they do is play with their phones (no attention span) and you ask if they listening and with out looking up and still typing they say yes...Their not listening, they are hearing but not listening....Drives me nuts.....then they have nerve to say nope don't like it, it is to loud and can't understand them and all you can do is roll your eyes as they put on the mind numbing music of today....yep no attention span rather listen to computer generated song with max 3 chords on loop and basic drum beat and lyrical content that involves again a dozern words repeated over and over...with no imagination or inspiration to be found.....METAL IN THE BLOOD!

Love your comments. Thank you both. I think Rob had a very traumatic childhood. In his case, he was able to deal with his life through his musical creativity. In music, as in any art, there is a purging which can take place when that energy is expressed. Halford and his band are masters at their craft and Rob is one of those earthly singing angels, who has truly reached god-like status as a human being. Truth!!!

I was there that day in 1983. Judas Priest kicked @ss. That festival was held at an Glen Hellen Regional park that was considered to be out in the middle of the nowhere desert back in those days. It is probably all built up with houses and strip malls by now. I use to spend a lot of time there dirt biking, camping, and drinking beer around the camp fire. When I showed up, and saw how they transformed it into a giant music festival I was amazed.

Was lucky enough to see the Priest in Tacoma last April. My girlfriend hadn't seen them before and she couldn't believe Halfords Screams. She looked back at me like Holyshit what just happened. His scream was so loud that my ears clipped. That's never happened to me and I've been to at least 100 or more metal shows. The best song for her was Painkiller. Me I loved that they brought out Saints in Hell for the first time since 1977.

If you haven't listened or reacted to #Judas Priest Beyond the Realms of Death (studio version) it is a definite MUST! I was in high school when it came out. It is to this day, mind blowing! It's like a melancholic feel, because the song is about venturing into suicide (a touchy subject) but JP pull out all the stops and create a blazing collage of molten metal. Not to mention the incredible lead guitar. Whew!

True Love with a soulmate heals all. Even music can never have it's impact. But .... when you pair the two together, as you guys have, man ..... life begins. The crazy part is when music is created WITH love, that elevates you even more. As this does, the human element, the story it tells, the intensity it is performed with, IS LOVE.

Kel & Rich, I heard what you had to say about the darkness and how each and everyone of us must push on through to the other side. It isn't the destination that makes who we are; but the journey in which we arrive there. I have found that mankind is unique in that we are the only animals on this planet that has an understanding that we can achieve our full potential when we learn to harness our inner power, our creativeness.
A singer sings, a poet dreams, a word smith writes, and a musician plays; all of which is one pathway to our inner creativeness, our souls, our pathway towards our full potential. By watching Kel's reaction for the first time listening to various forms of music reminds us of ourselves when we too heard for the first time these various forms of music. Knowing what Kel has discovered for herself reminds us of the path on which we are traveling upon and that there is still hope for us yet as we continue on our pathway towards enlightenment, which we owe you both a debt of gratitude and Love.

Like you channel. I like to recommed 3 different songs from motörhead birthday concert from 1985 London Hammersmith . Mean Machine, Bomber and motörhead. One of their best lives if you ask me. Songs keep on rolling like iron locomotive and also have a great energy. You should try those songs..stay metal and much love from metal capitol of the world, Finland \m/

Kel- at 27:24 you summed it up with one complete thought. "This music makes me feel like when I'm with you." Music to me is a point in time, a feeling whether good or bad. Music is an emotion of ecstasy, of love, of anger or even hatred. If you have an open mind your heart will follow. Love watching you guys. I saw Slayer open for Judas Priest in 1986. Mind blown

emotion and music are inexplicably tied together, it is something that comes from our history, from sitting around the fire hitting stumps to the modern day music, it invokes emotion and a inborn need to experience emotion with a group of strangers. that is what it is about.

It's not the U.S. Festival, it was the US Festival (as in we).........3 epic days (plus a country day the next Saturday) featuring different genres of modern music....this was "Heavy Metal day". Unfortunately, I didn't attend, but I know several people that did! However, there were substantial portions of it broadcast on TV!
I HAVE seen Judas Priest, though, at the Long Beach Arena...on their Screamin' For Vengeance" tour.....COMPLETELY FOR FREE! A friend showed up at my door and said "I have 2 tickets to see Judas Priest and no one to go with...I'll pay for everything and I'll drive...wanna go?" Ya think?! Haha!
Here's the lineup for the '83 US Festival:
Saturday, May 28 (New Wave Day)
    Divinyls
    INXS
Wall of Voodoo - Stan Ridgway's last appearance with Wall of Voodoo
    Oingo Boingo
    The English Beat
    A Flock of Seagulls
    Stray Cats
    Men at Work
The Clash - Mick Jones' last appearance with The Clash.
Sunday, May 29 (Heavy Metal Day)
    Quiet Riot
    Mötley Crüe
    Ozzy Osbourne
    Judas Priest
    Triumph
    Scorpions
    Van Halen
    Monday, May 30 (Rock Day)
Los Lobos (on a side stage only)
Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul
    Quarterflash
    Berlin
    Missing Persons
    U2
    The Pretenders
    Joe Walsh
    Stevie Nicks
    David Bowie
    Saturday June 4th (Country Day)
    Thrasher Brothers
    Ricky Skaggs
    Hank Williams, Jr.
Emmylou Harris & The Hot Band
    Alabama
    Waylon Jennings
    Riders in the Sky
    Willie Nelson

I've seen them live in Manchester, England a few years back and they were amazing. When they played The Hellion followed by Electric Eye (They're both connected, 1st leads into the 2nd song), I was pumping my load out because they're my favourites songs and also it was a fucking amazing performance. I cant remember much from that night but I remember them playing them songs and also painkiller. I'm really glad I got to see them live because they're in my top 5 of favourite bands.

@16:29 to 17:40 best comment ever about what music and any artform is about. Feelings. You can not force it. There are som many good "robots" out there that can play any piece flawless but where is the soul. I take Gary Moores Parisienne Walkways live at Montreux 2010 any day with all feedback, fiddling with the tone and volume knobs etc instead of that he would play it like the record. That is life. Expression etc. I am a part time musician from Sweden that never had my living out of music. I have always just played because it is fun. Thanks for yourexpressive channel and love to both of you./Torkel Bäck
