Bought this in 76 when it was released, because the cover looked cool. Took it home... it was love right away., 40+ years later still give me goosebumps.
Taped it for the car ride to and from high school in 76. Still gives me goosebumps too. Great musicians. Dio's lyrics are always spiritual, and he gives it his all.
Possibly the greatest song ever written. "My eyes are bleeding And my heart is leaving here..." I love that you guys just listen to the whole songs, and comment afterwards.
This song is a masterpiece. I have to argue, one of the best rock/metal songs of all time. A pure performance that showcases how amazing this band was. The peerless vocals, the awe-inspiring guitar solo, the incredible drums...the entirety of the band as a whole as they craft something pure and flawless all wrapped in a moral story.

This song created a whole subgenre within Metal. It completely changed music for the better. Dio's mark on Metal was more than he get's credit for; same with Ritchie Blackmore, Cozy Powell, and Jimmy Bain, in reality.
Ritchie's solo is The Wizard climbing the tower (the notes get higher and higher), and diving off at the end. (the slide guitar bit). That's how i see it. x
After Deep Purple's Child In Time; this is my (second) all-time favourite song. Blackmore (Deep Purple guitarist) met Ronnie Dio when the latter opened for a Deep Purple US Tour in 1972 (with Dio's band "Elf") and when Ritchie Blackmore wanted out of Deep Purple he contacted Dio to do some recording sessions. Dio agreed but wrinkles in the Deep Purple camp were ironed out and the couple of songs that were recorded stayed in a drawer until things finally came to a halt and Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1974 (of note is the fact that Roger Glover; Deep Purple bass player, used Ronnie Dio for vocals on several of the songs of his 1973 animation movie called "The Butterfly Ball". The latter had a worldwide hit with "Love Is All" that was sung by Dio). Ritchie recruited Elf again and the 1975 album "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" was the result. For the follow-up "Rainbow Rising", Blackmore fired everybody except Ronnie Dio; the late and great Cozy Powell was recruited on drums, Jimmy Bain on bass and an unknown by the name of Tony Carey on keyboards. The "Rising" result was a bit of a shocker at the time, with two memorable songs in the guise of "Stargazer" and its continuation "A Light In The Black"; both clocking-in at over eight minutes. Best album of 1976 for me. Thanks for another wonderful reaction. EDIT Wrote the above before actually watching the vid, so I missed the fact your calendar turned a full cycle. I knew you looked a bit different. Happy birthday Rich ;)

A great reaction! And so good to see you enjoy the opening thunder. That, as you probably know by know, is a much lamented guy called Cozy Powell. Now Cozy, apart from playing in same of the biggest bands on the planet, made a solo single. Yes, a solo single by a drummer. Its called 'Dance with the Devil" and you want to hear this. Trust me guys!
Cozy also had two albums, the first of which 'Tilt' was and still is stunning. Such an array of talent on it and great songs. Jekyl & Hyde, the Right Side, Sooner or Later, The Blister. This is not a drums showpiece, this is great stuff........
So glad you had the opportunity to listen to this epic song and that you enjoyed the experience. You folks just opened yourselves to a ton of music that will blow you away. It's a fun spider web of music you will expose yourself to. Have fun, and Rock On!
Wow. Hearing your experiences of having parents who would only allow you to hear classical music just brought it home to me how infinitely fortunate I was to be raised by a very open-minded father who introduced me to all kinds of great music; from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rainbow through Tchaikivsky, Beethoven, Liszt, Vivaldi via John Lee Hooker and Alexis Korner, while also encouraging me to find my own tastes, and embracing all of that too. So, I've listened to a hell of a lot of music in my time, attended a lot of concerts with my Dad and appreciated all of it. I hope these suggestions and first listens bring you as much joy as I've experienced in my life with these tunes.
The guitar player Ritchie Blackmore described it as a sort of “Turkish” feel, particularly on the solo. What an epic jam. Dio’s vocals are insane as well
So awesome you discovered Rainbow, the best of Rainbow was with Ronnie James Dio on vocals, he also sang with Black Sabbath if you haven't heard it, check out Heaven and Hell or Sign of the Southern Cross from Black Sabbath with Dio on vocals. We are all blessed to be able to experience such talent and artistry. It doesn't matter these songs fall into such and such a genre or style of music. Life is short. We are all just lucky to be able to experience it. And make no mistake - rock music is as legitmate a form of music as any classical or jazz form. in this case, with just 5 musicians, the song is as evocatiove and emotionally challening as any clasical piece. And the musical talents of the performers are the equal of any. The band is tight and focussed, every perfomer contribting to the overall sound. I have heard this song probably a billion times. I actually wore out 2 cassette tapes as a kid listening to this whole album, but I don’t think I have ever heard it on the radio. Such a shame because it really needs to be heard by more people.
"The Last in Line" or "Don't Talk to Strangers" are a couple of good first songs to start listening the solo career of Ronnie James Dio, the singer of this band.
Oh yes! I also loved "Caught In The Middle", "Straight Through The Heart", and "Egypt (The Chains Are On)" as well. With Dio's first two there are really no bad songs, it's a question of whatever mood you're in.
Richie Blackmore Left Deep Purple in 1974 And formed Rainbow in 1975. This Song is from Rainbow's second album called "Rising". Stargazer is One of the greatest Songs ever made
That’s the incredible Cozy Powell (RIP) on the drums and that awesome intro. Of course we have Ritchie Blackmore in Guitar and Ronnie James Dio (RIP) on the unbelievable vocals. This is probably Ronnie’s vocal masterpiece, at least in my opinion. Some of his best vocals are in the outro, as it fades out. “My eyes are bleeding my heart is leaving here” is just incredible. So much talent in this band, it’s a shame they didn’t stay together longer and create more great music like Stargazer. That’s the way is often is when so much talent tries to work together in a band. Just like UFO, who didnt stay together with Michael Schenker long enough. We just have to enjoy what music they gave us while together. BTW, the song is mostly done in the mixolydian scale which gives it that middle eastern sound. That was a very good catch by Kal. It is definitely played I’m scales to give it a middle eastern sound, a sound that Blackmore was very familiar with. You will hear the same vibe in another Rainbow song named “Gates Of Babylon”.
When it comes to reaction videos I have a few favorite channels but your channel is the best. Many channels spend to much time talking about shit that don't matter or has bad quality to the music. Happy birthday Rich! Ronnie James Dio was my all-time favorite metal singer, and he was an irreplaceable presence in hard rock and heavy metal. Looking forward to watching this. That said, Russell Allen, the singer from Symphony X and Adrenaline Mob, might be the next best thing in hard rock today. Symphony X, who you briefly mentioned in your intro, in particular is worth listening to.

Agreed. Two good choices.
Oh yes! I also loved "Caught In The Middle", "Straight Through The Heart", and "Egypt (The Chains Are On)" as well. With Dio's first two there are really no bad songs, it's a question of whatever mood you're in.
Please also react to the live version of Rock Bottom by UFO. It's a classic epic rock song.
Alan Alanis amazing song! And “Doctor Doctor” as well 🤟🏼
They have. Their reaction, especially Kell's is awesome.
Absolutely epic song. Just takes you off to a far away land a long ago time. I guess 1976 was a long time ago now....
Richie Blackmore Left Deep Purple in 1974 And formed Rainbow in 1975. This Song is from Rainbow's second album called "Rising". Stargazer is One of the greatest Songs ever made

I didn’t know you guys did this one! I just clicked this so fast!!!!
This is the best channel. You two are great :)
For a really cool and darker song with some Sabbath influences and Dio singing, you should check out "Strange Highways". One of my favorite tunes from Dio's solo stuff.
Dio - heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath 😍😍😍😍😍
Rest in peace metal god \m/

Happy birthday Rich! Ronnie James Dio was my all-time favorite metal singer, and he was an irreplaceable presence in hard rock and heavy metal. Looking forward to watching this. That said, Russell Allen, the singer from Symphony X and Adrenaline Mob, might be the next best thing in hard rock today. Symphony X, who you briefly mentioned in your intro, in particular is worth listening to.
