***** Rocking song. Could have been done by anyone and it would have been cool, but Spandau stepped up. Agree that it was their best. Pity that they went all........mainstream?.
@@robicenco1 I can't decide whether this or Instinction is my favourite. Trevor Horn's production on the latter is spectacular, as it usually is on anything he produces.
Right at the heart of the brit funk scene..a great time for me just leaving school into the big open world..you guy's along with many other brit funk bands made my teenage years brilliant..thank you ..🙏
Loved your work especially when you guys were working as Light of the World. “London Town” is still one of the greatest tunes ever written about London. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Beggar & Co. Thank you, your gr8 work on this brilliant track. I doubled back & got into your work too from this. Thou after a house party got your LP's kniked, only got MULE Chant No 2 12" left of your's.
Just checked Google and l find it hard to believe that chant No1 never got higher than 3 in the UK charts. As far as l'm concerned this is SB's best song. This 40 year old song could still be played in a club in 2022.
Haven't heard this song in ages Still sounds good today in August 2024 as it did when it was released back in the summer of '81 July 1981 Musclebound was also released by spandau ballet in '81
Light of the world......alias Beggar & co and Incognito ....were the force behind the instrumentals and backing of this song ......more than a good contribution to this jam.
Absolutely fantastic ...i personally dont think Spandau were given enough credit for this funk classic...not to mention Beggar and Co,s brilliant contribution

This video was filmed at Le Beat Route club at 17 Greek Street, Soho, London. The club closed years ago and is now a bar I think. At the start of this video Tony pulls up in the car and walks in, the person who greets him is, I think, the real owner. The final scene in this video, where the screen freezes, shows Tony running down (I think) Peter Street - that is the small road at the bottom of Berwick Street, which is part of the sleazy district of Soho. Apparently the band would travel down from Islington, where they all lived, to Soho to play and to hang out at Le Beat Route club - they would travel to Leicester Square tube station and walk to Greek Street from there. In this song you get directions from the Tube station to the club. From 3:37 in this song you hear: You go down down, Pass the talk of the town You go down Greek Street, Then its underground Well it's Soho life, For this mobile knife It's the place to shoot, Friday night Beat Route 'The Talk Of The Town' was a club in Leicester Square, which became The Hippodrome later I believe. 'Down Greek Street, Then its underground' is a reference to how 'Le Beat Route' is a basement club. A bit of Tony's venture into the venue is edited here, he walks in off the street, he's then greeted by the owner, then heads into the interior. There is actually a staircase he would have walked down prior to being greeted by the owner.

The Last Guitar Hero I'm quite intrigued of their origins as a punk band. I'm quite a fan of their style of music but mostly their most notorious songs like 'Round and Round', 'Gold', 'Through the barricades' etc, this sounds quite different but this song has a nice vibe to it. I like it.
Magnificent. Not just a New Romantic boy band as some called them. This is a funk/soul classic
Some listeners have no idea what they are listening to.
Some igits called the Beatles a boyband😅
More onz
Absolutely 💯 I love this song! It's very similar to Culture Clubs - Dance like an enemy.
Love this song
This is definitely THE coolest song they ever did!
Best think Spandau ever did. When they came out with this low down dirty piece of funk it just blew me away.
***** I agree - this is their best song.

Yes, just watching the story of how he wrote it and the 'pressure' he was under to write another good song while they were touring
Loved working with these guys...legends, and real gentlemen too:)

Beggar & Co You guys were all brilliant. Early 80s Brit Funk was the best! And this was by far, Spandau’s greatest hit.

Boring compared to cut a long story short
Really boring

What a riff and funky ass beat!
Summer 81 huge favorite at the discotheque's it became a popular anthem. Fiorucci jeans & Spandau

Well said !!!
They were given lots of credit. Look at their sales, dude. Underrated comments are highly irrelevant on this channel
They should just have done SO much more like this. The collaboration with Beggar & Co was inspired. But we want more!
We are buying the club with this one
Brilliant collaboration with Beggar & Co. Best. Spandau. Song. Ever!
Best spandau song in my opinion😎
All day long and every day
Le Beat Route, early 80s.. Soho, what a time to be on the club scene and so many stars spawned from a few clubs back then 😊
groovy AF! this one, To Cut A Long Story Short and Glow are their best tracks!
I thank god I was a teenager in the 80s best time for music ever , loved this song , I wish I could go back in time , really was time to be young 🙂
It really was . We were blessed and don’t actually appreciate it at the time but we sure do now x
I know the feeling...been blessed too... I wish those days could last forever
To me this is Spandau Ballets best ever song early 80s Brit Soul funk
Can't keep this pressure on Chant no 1 feat the underrated Beggar + Co
Classic
Always loved this song. Never knew it was Spandau Ballet! Well done!
Watching a documentary on Spandau Ballet on Sky Arts and Gary mentioned this. Incredibly modest guys for whom the sky's the limit
Less than a million views. This is Spandau's best song - ramp it up - amazing stuff
ramping it up! i heard this on the bbc radio today and i absolutely loved it.
And the fantastic trumpet solo too!
Only about 100 views away from 1 Million!

The only song I like by Spandau Ballet, it is funky, jazzy, exotic. Still great 👍😘
I think so too
Yes one of their best too. They changed their rhythm by true of course. I liked them a lot but by the barricades time I went off them so too alas.
Hipshaking classic from the Spandau lads.
Oh and another 80's master track. What a decade!!!
This must have been the best work of Spandau Ballet. This one pops regularly up in my head.
I was the only one out of all my friends that thought Gary was the sexiest guy in that band - He still is to me lol .
I think this is Spandau's best. Meaty new romantic funk, before they went too poppy
I agree. It has a slightly manic quality which makes it brilliant to dance to.
+Colin Stop being lame. Ya meant before they gave up and took the $$$.
100% with you
I cant help but agree, what a tune!
Agree. Top tune
This song has really stood the test of time, maybe more so than True and Through the barricades. It's always being played on the radio.
Tony Hadley the biggest James Bond miss of all time..ha ha....met these lads in Bournemouth 1980...great down to earth blokes to be fair..
Beggar and Co made this song special..
Still sounds great July 2021, perhaps they should re release this, such a good tune, just have to dance to it
Totally agree with you! Great dance track love it 😀
Excellent.
June 2023 and sounds great!!!
Great, well written piece of music. 🤙🏼
Still FUNKY as Hell and without Nile Rodgers help!!! 😍👏👏👏
Cheers,
Hans.
Much better without Nile Rodgers. Just funky, effortless
Who needs Nile when you can do funky so naturally and effortlessly? Oh that's right Duran needed Nile's help, afew times
But with the help of Beggar & Co - Tottenham's finest, who provided the groove for a few other bands at the time.
This Kind of area was so Phenominal, you can see how create Spandau Ballet was, with that tune 👌
The New Romantic era was fun in 1980! I also liked their Dance track "Glow" and "Paint me Down" extended mixes.
Yes, I loved this era

No better tune to get hot and sweaty on an 80's dance floor.

Oh, the early 80's..this makes me feel like homesick. If only I could travel back in time! and do it all over again.... 🎶🎵💋💋
Room at the Top Ilford High Rd, 1980 something, this song was massive, the place just went mad for it, always reminds me of those days.
The music/song is absolutely fantastic!!!!!!
Finally found what I was looking for. One of the Best from the New Romantic genre.
Second hit single for this band in the Netherlands. Before the real big success came with "true" in 1983.
Yep😊
Best album, Diamond (alongside Journeys to Glory), best songs, best era of SB. 💗
I LOVE this. Turned up nice and loud! One of Spandau Ballet's best songs.
