"How to remove the broken part" would be helpful. Why is a part that's only two years old and infrequently used breaking so often that there are multiple videos on how to fix it, anyway? They should really look into doing something about that.
Thanks for the video, though.
Worked perfectly. Now if only Toyota would quit making that part of PLASTIC, no one would need to do this! But thanks for saving me what would have likely be $400 at the dealer ;)
Metal would definitely be nice! Glad we could help.
Made out of plastic for job security lol...I had to replace my sisters on her 2019 rav 4.
Seriously! Fucking stupid thing for them to do
Wow, thank you so much for posting this! Literally a five-minute fix for my ’95 Corolla, including the time it took to watch your video. I backed into that flap at the gas station and bashed the piece off. Couldn’t figure out where it came from or how to get it back on! Google - and you - to the rescue. Cheers from Canada.
Thanks for sharing the replacement process! It's wild that Toyota makes such a key piece out of flimsy plastic, but at least this saves me from a pricier service appointment 👍
Just what I was looking for! THANKS for posting!!!
Thank you for sharing this efficient and direct video, it helped me solve a problem on my RAV4 gas door.
Thank you so much this helped me a lot just got a part at the dealership they looked it up and I got it and installed just like you said , had to be a little bit firm with it because it’s a new part. Thank you!
Very good! I found mine on the ground after opening the fuel door. With the help of this video, it went right back in. TY
Glad it helped!
Thanks... it helps me to do it on my 2005 4Runner.
Excellent video worked great for me
Great video!! Thank you!
Thanks for the help!
Mine lasted 12 years! Just replaced, thanks!
Great help - thanks so much - the moron service guy at our Toyota told me I had to buy an entire new lid, and then have it painted by the Lexus stealership across the street.
Gotta love Florida 😂
Wow
Love your hat sir! Great video.
Thank you, I just fixed!!
Brilliant!
Thank you !!!
Thank you 😊
Life saver
thanks!
Luckily my customer recovered the broken spring, while at the gas station. Once i got the car, to figure it all out, i elected to zip tie the spring to the hinge. Seems like its a solid fix, only time will tell.
Can you show me how to replace a fuel door spring for a 2014 Toyota RAV4? The spring I have looks different so I'm having difficulty putting it in.
Older models? Try in about 2-3 years after purchase of a new vehicle. This part has a massive design flaw with how the spring is held on to the clip. Thanks for the info, since warranty does not cover this "mechanical assembly".
Same here, 3 year old rav4.
Me too, 3 year old rav4
Yup mine just broke off and I have a 2021
I have a 2020 got it used (18k miles) in 2021 and mine broke off today. Hoping superglue will be good enough to fix lol. It’s able to say in place up until I open the gas tank, then it falls and I’ve got to find it a place it back until next time.
is this the same on the Toyota yaris 2005 my fuel door is jammed shut
But how do you get the door open if the spring doesn't work?
Just found myself at the Costco gas pump and couldn't get it to open, sigh....
Pull the handle and stick the fob and use your card to open the trap door
Ask someone else to simply push on the fuel lid’s left side while you hold the release handle …
I had this same issue but no one to assist in opening the door while I pressed the open button. I though, there must be a manual release in the trunk and low and behold there is. If you pop the trunk there is a small panel cover on above the indent of the left fender. Take off that cover and there is a manual release for the fuel door actuator. I was able to pull the release level and open the fuel door with my other hand.
We ordered the clip and all seemed easy as you said but it will NOT click tight on the one end! Pops off, any ideas???? The piece is identical to the one you show, ordered on line.
3rd party fuel door springs in my experience do not fit as well as OEM parts. Order the fuel door spring from a local Toyota dealer's parts department. More $, but much less frustration at install. The other option is to use sandpaper and sand down the edge of the part that is too long, shave off just enough where the fit is good, but still tight. This is what I had to do to get my Dorman made replacement fuel door spring part to fit the first time. Good luck!
It shouldn't be made of either plastic or metal. It should be a push action on the lid like many other models. No lever, no button, just a slight push to pop it open.
You show how to replace the part but absolutely no information on how to remove the old plastic piece. BTW when I did get it off it flew out of sight. My cap was off for easier access and I was afraid it had gone down the filler. (Didn’t) but put rag in filler if cap is removed.
Can u pls tell me how to buy it?
Where do I buy this :)
Any Toyota Certified Dealership should be able to get it for you or a local auto shop.
I have a 2020 Rav4 and today the fuel door wouldnt open. The car is just 3 years old and this sort of issues are happening. I think the quality is starting to fail.
Why don't you show us how to open manually when the fuel door is locked because the spring is broken ❓❓❓ thanks
Happened to me. Had to have someone push the gas button while using a key to open the cover door.
@@andrewscasualmtb thanks for the informative video 👌👌
This is for a floor mounted lever, I simply put an eyeglass case under the lever and opened it.
You have to prop the lever open in the cabin then press the fuel Door on the opposite corners to open it. You will then notice the Spring Clip is missing. Glad to help❤
This is not how to replace this is how to fix it
"Occasionally on older model Toyota’s, the fuel door spring will become faulty and the fuel door will no longer pop open. In this video, we will show you how to replace that fuel door spring."
Please add: "And occasionally on less than two year old Toyotas, the fuel door spring's faulty design will cause you ultimate consternation at the gas station when you realize you have about of gallon of gas left in the tank, and and the fuel door will no longer pop open. In this video, we will not show you how to remove the faulty designed original fuel door spring."
Tips:
1) Carry a shop rag or other item you can roll up and stick under the fuel door release lever propping it up, then the fuel door will pull open easily manually by hand. And then you can at least get gas before going to the parts store or ordering a replacement fuel door spring online.
2) If the door will not open by hand after propping up the door release lever, the cable to the fuel door might be broken or out of place. This cable might need to be inspected by a mechanic. The door usually can still be pried open (make sure the release lever in the cabin is still propped open first) using a credit card or a gift card, or less desirably a screwdriver shaft, on the upper right corner of the fuel door to force the fuel door open so you can at least get gas before taking the car to a shop. Also search for and watch this video: "Opening a Fuel Door That Doesn't Pop Toyota 4Runner (Fuel Door Spring Replacement)"
Be nice if you should how to take the broken one out
I just literally did this today. In the hinge area, I simple used a blade screwdriver tip and hit the plastic "hook" a few times. It will fall out behind the hinge and should come out the bottom. If more plastic material than that exists, a chisel it a file should take enough off. If you have a "moto-tool" you should be able to cut enough of the plastic away.
So you didn't show how to take off the broken one...
Part number?
The part number can vary from vehicle to vehicle
@@HeywardAllenToyotaScion Part number for 2018 Camry XSE?
I have a 2003 Lexus ES 300 and dealer gave me part number C13868SP Dorman part # 47208
Dorman part # 47208 fits a bunch of Toyota models. Anyone curious can search this part number at online parts retailers and they will provide the matching vehicle cross reference.
I wonder if you're a Christian
