Thank you so much for this video ,this evening I pulled up at the gas station and my gas tank won’t open,I struggled for long inside the COLD and gave up ,and drove home with almost an empty tank.Then I broke down in tears,and then came to RUclips and saw your video,I followed the step on my Toyota Venza and boom the tank opened .THANK YOU SO MUCH .
I wasn't so fortunate. I was at tbe fuel island as well with the light burning bright. I was hamfisted and forced the fuel door open and I have to replace the entire cable and spring.

Ah for the good old days when you had a key operated locking filler cap ! And a key for the boot or a internal boot lever.

This video definitely baled me out of bad situation on a very cold night. I'd just gotten gas and slammed the door shut before I put the cap on and couldn't get the door open. I drove the mile up the hill to my house with the gas cap dangling on the outside of the car and after a failed attempt to pry the door open I found this wonderful video. My Hyundai Santa Fe actually had the access door imprinted with an image of a gas tank and once I removed the door I found a pull cord labeled Emergency Gas Door Release/PULL. I pulled, it opened and problem solved. Why did I not notice this in the 14 years I've been driving this car? Thank you for posting this video!

It seems to be spring tension , not release pin in my case.... I need to see how to increase spring tension... nothing is hampering the free movement of panel... seems to have no UMPH !

Thanks! I found another trick by sticking an ATM or credit or business card on the furl door and go back in front your truck and try to open the fuel door again as you used to. It would pop right away.

Any idea how to access a Toyota sequoia release pin from the inside like this? Mine is a 2002 if that helps. I do not have the same panel
Hello we don't have a local release of Sequoia here in PH so we aren't that familiar BUT I did a quick Google search and found out that there's a rear quarter panel cover which might give you access to the release pin. If not, you might remove the the while rear quarter panel.
