As I was a special needs kid in every grade in school, I was always observant, messy, stayed up late, sensitive to my surroundings, not very social, yet pretty organized. As in I could keep my thoughts in check if I had the time to write them down. I was also a very neat writer and still loves writing. The “normal” kids that I knew or tried to get to know, didn’t have the same qualities, or if they did then they didn’t have each quality as much as I did. I’m so glad I’m outta high school!
Do not skip your kid a grade or let your kid get held back. No tracking, AP credit, gifted program, or private school. If your kid is a dunce, teach em to work hard, if your kid is smart, teach em to help the class. Every other solution has been tried and doesn't work. No gifted program, no AP courses, no tracking, no private school, no extra classes, no clubs. Separating kids out by, ability, learning style, value to society, behavior, interests, etc. It's all been tried and does not work.
As I was born, I was perfectly healthy. And I also started talking at a VERY young age. Per se, 1 y/o or under? And I started reading everything at four. And when I joined kindergarten, I was top of my class! Everything seemed so easy, as though I had already learned them. Although when it came to 4th grade, I wasn't very productive. I was 2nd in class, and I needed to do better. I'm planning for my application to go to Harvard. Wish me luck!
The reason that I'm not going to skip a grade even though I'm very smart is because I like my classmates and I don't want to go to a grade where I don't know anyone.
I started talking when I turned 3 but was talking in complete sentences instead of sentences like "Mommy, play, play!" I am 13 and am interested in medical and scientific learning. I skipped a grade for ELA / LA when I was 5, meaning skipping to 1st grade, and skipped to 8th grade for math last year (I was in 7th grade and 12.)
I hit every single one of those check boxes (plus a few extras!) but skipping a grade was never offered to me. I was given extra library and computer privileges in elementary school (a big deal since it was the mid-80's) and placed in the only two AP classes my jr high and high school offered, but that was it. Now that I think back on it, I don't think my school ever skipped any of the advanced kids. And, the worst students would get held back only so many times before the school just started passing them in an effort to get rid of them. There was this one girl who was about three years older than me. She dropped out of school her freshman year after she turned 18. I was a sophomore when this happened. Smh...
Teacher: would you like to have a cookie now or two cookies later Me: due to high doses of sugar that breaks down into fruktose I would most likely not prefer receiving any cookies, thank you
Just because this video has a lot of things that have reason for you to move up a level doesn't mean you should. If you move up in school, you'd normally be missing all the things you'd learn the year before if you didn't research them yourself. If you didn't, you'd be struggling massively in school and be moved down. That means that you'd probably think lesser of yourself.
Skipping a grade is almost always a terrible idea. Nothing is more likely to make you a social outcast than being way younger than your classmates at a time when a year is a huge fraction of your life. There may not be much difference between a 39 or 40 year old person, but there’s a huge difference in physical and mental maturity between a 9 and 10 year old. And what’s the payoff to graduating early that you’re willing to make your kid a social outcast that’s smaller than all of their friends and less mature? Nothing. There’s no prize for graduating at 16 or 17 other than not being as mature as your class mates and now you’re off to college before you’re even a legal adult.

Why would you encouraging people to skip grades? There was a ten year old kid in my gifted class in 8th grade. He still carried a lunch box. People I've met in college who skipped grades didn't seem well adjusted, either. Mensa has stated that the correlation between personality type and IQ is at best weak. Messiness (Ne user types) and delayed gratification (associated with Ni dominance) are actually contradictory traits.
