    I tried this technique in August 20th on my client She has a Bob style. It turned out sooooo pretty, soft and blended. It took me 20 minutes and I charge for a partial highlights. On my note I put JHL. James highlights. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏

    That leave open foil I should do more to save time. It gives more oxygen as well. I think we get stuck in our habits that cost time and this one is a biggy I already fold under and have since hair school 9 years ago at 45. I haven’t worked with many experienced stylists so these techniques are refreshing to watch so thank you so much for that.

    • @TheLifeOfHair

      Yes Josie it definitely saves you time passing unfolding always takes way more time than you would ever imagine it saves me about 10 minutes every set of foils not folding. So pleased that my videos have been helpful to you Josee

    Iv'e been a hairdresser 32 years, wow things have really changed in that time, these fast new techniques are great.
    32 years on and you never stop learning, so many qualify and think they have learnt everything there is to know. Also in all this time I am now starting with back, hip and hand problems so anything that is easier and quicker is good for me and the salon 😁

    I am taking notice of how the music in the background is so peaceful for a change. You can focus on the work High techno music is jarring and competes with the speaker

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 года назад +8

      Wonderful yes I have change the background music that I put in my videos I much prefer it hey I don’t know why I was put in such stupid music in my videos I guess I was caught in the trap of doing what everybody else does I’ve been watching this brilliant videographer on RUclips for awhile now and they really liked music he was using so I thought well must give the girl in my videos and I much prefer it I have to say I’m glad that people have noticed and commented

    • @diannadeerodriguez3718

      The Life Of Hair I wasn’t directing that you played jarring music I meant other you tubers play this harrowing music and that your kind is more soothing. It sounds like they’re in a nightclub and it’s not even good music

    Thanks so much James, I really love your videos! Last night I used your technique for a root melt from another video and it helped me so much with the blending and application. The same girl is coming back to me on Tuesday and I’m going to do this foiling technique and placement. I was depressed thinking of all the foils I’d have to do until I found your vid. She doesn’t need very many and it will be so nice and subtle. I rarely ever, ever comment on any videos on RUclips but just want to thank you for your help 👏🏼🤩 so thank you!

      I hope your family and loved ones are all okay, this pandemic is scary especially for older loved ones and those with health issues. How is the pandemic in the uk now? Don’t forget to get some sunshine while you guys are in summer so get out in the sun as it boosts the immune system and is good for us in moderation of course. It’s best to take vit d supps in the uk too though esp in winter etc as I read the sun isn’t as strong in Northern Europe and any other northern or southern countries that are further away from the equator.

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 года назад

      It is possible and previously highlighted hair but what I would say is if you’re going to do it on previously highlighted hair it does need to have quite a long route on it or you need to put a root stretch in between the packets to achieve this affect. I have a video on how to turn I highlight client into a Balyage client check it out it’s more akin to somebody that is already got highlights

      The Life Of Hair.. I qualified nearly 20 years ago, and I think the flair never leaves you if you’re passionate enough about it 🥰
      I haven’t worked in a few years due to I’ll health, and whilst I never forget, it’s easy to get a bit rusty 🙈
      It’s wonderful to continue to learn in an ever evolving craft and trade!
      I had a wonderful teacher, he was just like you, ever so professional! ..I love your tutorials, because of how you take the time to break everything down, answering any questions that I have in my head whilst I’m watching and listening. You have great teaching skills, (not something that every teacher actually has).. not to mention your insane skills.. you’re a true artist! ✨
      your passion for doing hair is infectious and you’re an inspiration, especially during these difficult times.
      I hope to learn so much more from you in the future.. many kind thanks again!
      Keep up all your great work! 👌🏾

    Once again amazing informative and super helpful videos!! I do have a questions I make sure to evenly saturate the hair in the foil, however I seem to get those fold marks. Is it too tight or not enough product???

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 года назад

      Hi wonderful thank you for your question so yes it Could be a combination of both of those things really I never thought my phone was too tightly and I always put lots of products in there if you sold your foil to tight then that can cause bleeding because there is nowhere for the bleach to go apart from out the top 👍🏻

    I think the shiny side... Which I would say reflects light off each other... But not sure how exactly it works but it does get brighter on the shiny side. Yes make a video please!

    Thanks James, would this work on an overhighlighted blonde if also adding in a low light to break up the old a bit? Or would it not be enough coverage overall?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  2 года назад +1

      No worries Natalie glad you liked it yes you could use this technique to add depth back in but I would recommend to use anything like a skip slice or quite a chunky weave if you wanted to get depth back into the hair using baby find sections like we do in this video really wouldn’t work to add depth and break up over highlighted hair

    Great video - thank you for sharing your expertise. I am wondering what stops your bleach from bleeding out of the top of the foil when you place the product so close to the hairline? Thank you.

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 года назад

      Thank you for your comment glad you enjoyed the video to things that I do to prevent bleeding are usually use a 1 to 1.5 mixing ratio so 30 g of powder to 45 g of peroxide and I use the flat at the back of my foil to secure and make sure that there is no chance of the product escaping

    Thank you so much for your videos! I've seen a lot of hairstylists leave a section uncoloured then a coloured section when weaving the hair to bleach, if I'm going for an ombre look is this necessary to do, or is it better to just bleach all the sections instead of alternating?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 года назад +1

      You are very welcome, if you’re going for an hombre luck then I would suggest that you do all of the sections the reason that you would breach a bit and leave a bit on the beach a bit and leave a bit is to create more of a contrast look more akin to a Balyage.

    Thank you for this video! I'm so glad you brought the time problem in discussion. I am convinced my customers will be asking to cover their grey/ dark roots with a base and then, for the ends, do some highlights and lowlights!!!! And I am very aware that I am charging far too little for that time I spend. I have been to terrified to tell them it's just taking too much time and I am charging only 60 per cent probably. As you said now, maybe their gonna accept it easier after the lockdown, because they have no choice. I definitely do not want to offend my ladies, by saying" I don't have that much time for you" .
    I don't know if other hairdresser can relate to this, but most of my customers think they are " the customer", the rest of the people being..."the rest of the people".

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 года назад +1

      AB I would go as far as to say That 70% if not 80% of the hairdressing industry under charges for what they are really worth this is the time to make those changes and flaw back all the years you’ve been undercharging. And of course you don’t have to say it in the manner that I would to my ladies because I had a very different report to a lot of hairdressers with my client and I will be that honest with him but you know how to best treat your clients/guests in the salon and one thing I will say to you is that it won’t always be met with positivity But think of this if you charged 60% more than you were previously you could do 60% less clients and earn exactly the same money for AB do yourself and the biggest favour ever done yourself in your life and make your time worth it 😁✌🏻

    Hi James👋 so I know in cooking the shiny side of foil is to deflect heat (I think) and the matte side is suppose to absorb heat (I think) (I’m no chef), so based on this I think that the matte side is suppose to be where the hair sits so that the lightener heats up to get its best result... I think... I think of your lessons daily when at work in the salon! Would love to have more of a chat about the Wedge or Bowl cut. I’m probably calling it the wrong cut, but I think you know what I’m speaking of. Have a great day!

      Hi FaceApp that is so wonderful to know that my lessons help you on a daily basis. And I’m going to make a video all about the foil so keep your eyes peeled for that. The best way to chat to me about any specific topic is to add me on Instagram send me a DM @Thelifeofhair1

      The Life Of Hair
      I am going to look now for video on foil. If you haven’t done it yet maybe this a reminder BUT I wanted tell you the story of highlighting a text book is to highlight the “and” not the whole paragraph or page was a BOOM yes yes moment for me.. and if you keep going over and over the same chapter highlighting a diff word each time eventually there is more highlight SO what do you suggest or do you not agree since possible low lights or due to regrowth that wouldn’t exactly be accurate to use a book example at that point?
