I think 4/16/1983. What a night. Stephen Stills showed up at the Grateful Dead show at Meadowlands in New Jersey, came out by surprise after Drums/Space. Etta was playing somewhere in NYC that same night and after the Dead show, Steven headed over to the Etta gig after the Dead show. The Etta gig was being broadcast live on TV and we just happened to turn on the TV back at our hotel room and there's Steven playing with Etta! I'd never heard of Etta, at that point, and I've been a huge fan ever since. Wow!
I suppose you've seen the post midnight set then, where she joined GD and the Power of Tower horns for the '82-'83 NYE show at the Oakland Auditorium (aka Henry J. Kaiser), also on RUclips. Aint nuthin betta than Miss Etta, and among the best I've seen her in, is 'A Night of Blistering Blues with B.B. King and Friends', featuring Eric Clapton, Paul Butterfield, Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dr. John, Etta James, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan & others. ruclips.net/video/yOSnUmLt5VQ/видео.htmlsi=_D9Ef24Y9ujlffau

One Bad Ass Blues Musician is Mr. Stills,,,, Only wish his Back Catalog had more blues on it. One of the finest Delta Bluesmen in the Business,,,,, Looks very much at home in this lineup!
I have always loved Mike Finnigan's B3 play. Has played with Stephen from the early days. Look up Stephen Stills live at the Capitol Theater. Also has Bonnie Bramlet of Delaney Bonnie & Friends.
After gig entertainment? Loose, knock it loose! Ms. ETTA! (She could dig down in the gravel, then raise it demurely into gentleness... 0-70 in 30 seconds.)

CSN is boring, in comparison to Stills' solo career. David Crosby and Graham Nash aren't the most charismatic of people, either. In fact, they were his backup players, especially considering how Stills played ALL of the instruments on their debut album.
@@CooManTunes Don't dis Crosby and Nash. Stills was the most talented in CSN, but the reason he played all the instruments on their debut album was that he refused to leave the studio when everyone else was beyond tired. There are plenty of videos showing Crosby and Nash playing guitar and keyboards with skill, and their songwriting and vocals are amazing.
This woman can hang with the fellows down and dirty that's my girl.i just wish that I had known about her talant sooner my mom,use to talk about her.when mama pasted I started listening to her music and fell in l love with ms etta James the world has lost one of the greats.RIP
In a just world, Etta James would have been as big as Celine Dion, Mike Finnigan would be famous instead of just one of the best sidemen ever, and Stephen Stills would have not got sidelined by fame, coke and booze, and would still be tearing it up with Dallas Taylor on drums. Oh well....
Claudia - "Sidelined"??? I guess you've never heard of The Rides? Stephen with Kenny Wayne Sheppard & Barry Goldberg of Super Sessions fame. Great music & they're having fun. Look them up.

Oh Etta, reverts to the growling of words when she cannot reach the notes. Disapointed. Stills as ever honours Etta voice by being utterly perfect in his support.
Stephen Stills can play the Blues as good as he wants...
Oh boy yes :)
and those Etta James vocals, magical.
What a tremendous duo...love it!
Indeed, And he is damn pretty good!.
But only as loud as a deaf dude at the board allows him to, which is not loud enough in this case.
@@JohannesLabusch yeah, what up with that?
OMG....LOVE these two together. ❤️❤️❤️
A couple of my favorite people =)
A legend in her time. One of the most influential voices of all times. RIP.
2 of most favorite artist. Go stephen!!

@@hectorgonzalez9170 Never heard his Crossroads? Never heard him on Super Session? Listen up.
Black Queen is definitely blues.
IMO, Black Queen is the finest acoustic Blues song ever.
It's Mike Finnigan on B3. You should hear him sing!

So fortunate to have seen Mike Finnegan once or twice. I think both times with Dave Mason.
Better than making love. Those two just conceived.
After gig entertainment? Loose, knock it loose! Ms. ETTA! (She could dig down in the gravel, then raise it demurely into gentleness... 0-70 in 30 seconds.)
Looks like Stills is playing in stereo! two jacks in that guitar
Possible Neil Young has a Gretsch white falcon set up to play in stereo.

I thought Stephen Stills was a folk singer CSNY, I’m shocked!
He's even said that at heart he's a blues player. But I love most everything he plays.

I think they've passed the audition.

in 1974 I saw John Lee Hooker at Hunter College. It came to me to name my guitar, a Yamaha dreadnaught, 'Etta.' So i did.

Etta James IS as big as Celine Dion, in her own musical blues styling.
no...it is a just world...you play you pay.
Claudia - "Sidelined"??? I guess you've never heard of The Rides? Stephen with Kenny Wayne Sheppard & Barry Goldberg of Super Sessions fame. Great music & they're having fun. Look them up.
Sidelined no-temporarily preoccupied w/substances-something that happens to so many. Stills has had the most wonderful career, & we are so grateful!!!
...was this with Etta's ROOTS BAND?
When was this concert?
1983
1983.
Sang it white guy on the B3..that's the truth and you know Etta be bringing it..that's alright
The guy singing looks like Alex Tribec
Who's playing B3?
Mike Finnigan.
what year is this?
1983
