I have an awful lot of musical influences.......... Larry Carlton, Ry Cooder, Clapton and the Allmans, the Beatles, .. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Morse.. ad infiituml... but, at the end of the day, Stephen Stills has been the greatest influence on me..and I'm much better , musically, for it. Thank you , Stephen!
And think he performs deaf for years. His time with Buffalo Springfield and C,S,N&Y were the best years of my youth. Their music spoke to me and expressed how I felt.
Stephen up there singing all alone on a piece he wrote for a 3 part harmony. I love his voice, it has always had such impact, but I couldn't help but take the middle harmony (Crosby's part) and sing along with him. Of course that leads to tears and joy by the end of the song. I'm not religious, but let's bless this man with our human spirit for all he has given us.
Such a great and complete musician - guitarist, singer, songwriter, member of wonderful bands (Buffalo Springfield, CSN, CSNY) and solo. Will always love Stephen’s music.
The man is a musical genius. In his younger days he had the voice of an angel. Much respect and gratefulness for being alive to have seen him come onto the scene and we’re both Still going!
couldn't agree more- Just wish Stephen received full recognition for his amazing lyrics and precise guitar playing. Music & words that evoked emotion hen & Now.
The biggest musical influence on my life! I'm an englishman and heard 4 way street in 1971 for the first time. Everything changed. His voice was incredible and I bought Stephen Stills on cassette then SS2 then Manassas which is my favourite album of all time as it introduced me to a collective sound of instruments and styles. I saw CSNY at Wembley Stadium in 1974 (Joni Mitchell in support). Fast forward to 5 or 6 years ago and we saw CSN in Bristol in UK. Still brilliant! As well as playing the best acoustic guitar and having the best voice .. he is a great human .. a friend of mine was staying with a neighbour of his in the mid 70's and he invited them over to his house and played an impromptu session after dinner. It's just unimaginable that one of the greatest music stars in the world at that time would be so unpreposesssing and egoless to do such a thing!!
@@streyper I think this performance is from 2007. He wrote the song for three voices, and is trying to do it alone. It was a valiant effort, but age catches us all. He was one of the very best in his prime. The song was recorded in 1968 and released in 1969. Try this video ruclips.net/video/kyquqw6GeXk/видео.html The song has been covered by a lot of artists. Recently, a group called "A Girl Named Tom" did a beautiful rendition for a TV talent show here: ruclips.net/video/oR4IlkM6b-U/видео.html
I remember watching this when it was broadcast and thinking to myself, “Why couldn’t he get two other singers to fill out the harmony?” The song is empathy without it - and Stephen’s voice was well past its prime. Mind you, I’m a lifelong CS&N fan!
No, his voice isn’t the same. But , I can hear and feel the experience, wisdom , blues in his voice. It’s a sound that only comes with time. And, he can still smoke on the guitar!
I grew with this man. He was adopted and lived in Tampa, FL. Great music and he has some really nice guitars. My wife wonders why I have so many guitars.......
Stephen is so brilliant & as good as he ever was when he was a younger musician back in his hey day. I love this acoustic version of a song that means so much to me 🎄❤️⭐️🕊️ I love his voice & always his spirit. Real musicians never die or get old & tiring.
One of the greatest musicians of our time - and I think sadly one of the most underrated and under appreciated, though why I can’t understand. I love his voice and his amazing abilities on the guitar
I think underrated and underappreciated applies to a lot of musicians from the 60's and 70's. The newer generations of music fans have their own favorites that overshadow the accomplishments, contributions, and awareness of their predecessors. However, having been around during those years, I can tell you that Stills was highly appreciated as a songwriter, musician, singer, and especially as a guitarist. The bands Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and Manassas were in the A league in their time, thanks mightily to Stills' contributions.
I think it’s a bit of because of Neil Young’s success. Many people see CSN just some Neil’s early career friends. They don’t have a clue that all of them were absolutely great musicians, and especially Stills is the one who wrote the classic songs. And Buffalo Springfield also!
I always listened for his harmony line: butter with the teeniest bit of rough, soothing…thank you for the songs, thank you for the music, you still bring me to tears. No one today with the lyrical poetry.
Such a perfectly crafted song. I'm always struck by folks stating he is an under-rated guitar player. He's rated extremely highly, especially amongst other guitar players (i.e. Clapton! Jimi back in his day!) And he's a multi-instrumentalist - so gifted.
I think it is just the best version of the song ever!! It is pure and tells the whole story in melody, lyrics and sound!! Thank you Stephen for all you have done for the music
I love this version, very haunting version. The album this was in promotion of "Just Roll Tape" is very VERY good! The tour behind this one was fantastic because he broke out 'So Begins The Task' almost nightly which is the sequel song to this one according to Stephen.
I've always admired the raw talent of a guy by himself with only an acoustic guitar. Stills is amazing. Now imagine Stills with David Crosby, Graham Nash and Neil Young. Mind blowing raw talent. My only wish is that they loved each other as much as themselves. MONEY changes people. When they had their very own fortune they didn't need each other any more. Sad
Steven at this point is hampered by his deafness near complete in one ear ..... this song needs Graham and David on harmony to complete the three note blend and fullness ...... I wish he played BLACK QUEEN or another of his songs. Best player ever.
Masterful job Stephen, I always thought you played with a thumb pic but I don't see one, I'm a huge fan of your music and spent many an hour practicing your technique, I'm a friend of Dave Zimmer and if you're ever in Pacifica Ca, and you feel like exchanging a few chords I'm your man
Its weird how Stills, Crosby and Nash voices sound mediocre solo, but put all 3 together and its magical. They very lucky they stumbled upon each other.
He sings here alone yet I hear the harmony. One of the best.
I recall the harmony with CSN, but I hear him alone, here. It's magnificent both ways!!
Steven is one of my idols, along with David Crosby and others.
I have an awful lot of musical influences.......... Larry Carlton, Ry Cooder, Clapton and the Allmans, the Beatles, .. I agree many many more. Just happened to see and hear it come one up here.
I’ve been kinda obsessed with the music of CSN
CSNY of late.
much better musically--finding performances like this must help with that, right?
I can totally dig it.
And think he performs deaf for years. His time with Buffalo Springfield and C,S,N&Y were the best years of my youth. Their music spoke to me and expressed how I felt.
Stephen Stills has touched my life in such a profound way. He's the reason I play the guitar, and his music lifts me up when I am down.
What a wonderful man!
The ultimate of talent and grace! So very amazing!
His voice touches the soul
I feel ya.
Same 🙌❤️
That Martin D-45 !!!
His music was always truth
The absolute G O A T. 🙏
Stephen Stills is a great guitarist, and he takes himself seriously when he accompanies only himself on his wonderful acoustic guitar.
Stephen up there singing all alone on a piece he wrote for a 3 part harmony. I love his voice, it has always had such impact, but I couldn't help but take the middle harmony (Crosby's part) and sing along with him.

He wrote this song before he was working with Crosby and Nash. The three part harmony came well after the song itself.
@@Chris.from.1950
So you agree that the song I originally heard on the radio was in 3 part harmony.
Thank you.
@@charlie-obrien Just admit that you made a mistake. It won't hurt. I might actually make you feel better. At least you will feel less douchey.
He is an elder statesmen of the music of his youth and of his time. God bless him!
I absolutely love Stills voice when singing!
I love stills.
This is stunningly beautiful in Still's voice alone. His tone is impeccable. God bless you Mystic visionary Stills. Peace

Stephen Stills un génie comme son pote Neil Ypung.
Stills esta un genius! He cannot hear to sing. What a music leader though
IMO he lead a movement of music.
I don't need to be reminded that he is a very gifted soul among us. He has made that clear.
Man, he is a real treasure! Deep and meaningful . . . heartfelt.
Just respect, whatever it sounds! THIS IS THE MAN AND THE HISTORY. His voice tells all the history……respect, respect
When 1st heard Stills with Buffalo Springfield he immediately became my favorite guitar player and singer. Great career. Keep it up, Stephen.

Manassas is definitely one of my desert island records! And So Begins The Task is one of the best songs he's done.
He is a treasure.
In his prime one of the greatest voices ever.
It's heartbreaking to hear that voice get old.
@@robertsparling any idea when this was made? He sounds beautiful here, but I'm guessing it is at least ten years old.

Really needs the harmonies to truly work but it's still a masterpiece. Long live Stephen.
Strange enough, I can hear the harmonies though they're not there .....
Stephen, you are a TREASURE- the soundtrack of my life. Thank you for the gift of your talent, songs, voice, and heart.
All my love, respect and admiration to Stephen Stills.
Oh, that beautiful guitar 😊

He is a paragon of his time, the most creative and diverse time of popular music and this now feels like a swan song... Only the tears are missing.

My god I grew up listening CSNY and even longer Neil. But seeing this boots me to the head as a reminder of how amazing Stills truly is.
A true gentleman and verifiable LEGEND!

Correct indeed
Agree too. Brilliant guitarist, in fact, he can do it all…✌️
Just recently got his new Live at Berkeley 1971. Amazing recording and 2 songs with Crosby. Excellent!
