Suggestion, when backing up, don’t slide your tandems till you are aligned with the dock. This will make a better pivot point and backing in a tight area so much easier. Enjoy your travels.
Just a tip when you pull paper or any product slide your tandems so the mud flap is lined to the back of the freight at the back of trailer. That should either put you right or only need to move a small amount. Pulled from Wabash for three years and that method only was wrong once because the loader loaded wrong. This method is applicable for stuff that is 42000 and over and is loaded to the 48ft mark in trailer.
I love Alex's vlogging style. No b.s. just straight to it. He doesn't beg for likes or subs. He doesn't have an annoying intro nor does he spend the the first 5 minutes of the video explaining what the title of the video already says
Hey Alex, Been watching your videos for a long time now. You do a great job at both trucking and documenting your travels. Thank you for being Alex. Stay safe..
To get air in the trailer to slide the tandems press in the red brake button. That will start supplying the trailer then hold about 1500 rpms till the air dryer purges. Should be able to slide after that.
Alex please keep showing exactly what you do when sliding the trailer and how it works with different weight. I’m trying to learn so I can hopefully get my cdl and start trucking 🙏
I'm from Africa and I'm enjoying your trucking trip around America, am also a truck driver and i'd suggest that you put a front facing camera next to the rear facing camera so that we can see a wide angle of the road.
16:47 it’s kinda hard to explain, but if the holes are further apart, like at least 3 or 4 inches away, you divide by 500, if they are closer together, you divide by 250. So what you do is subtract the lightest from the heaviest, then divide it in half, THEN, you divide by 250 or 500, depending how far apart your holes are.
Whenever you drop a trailer, whether it’s loaded or empty, you should never put the sand shoes directly on the ground you’ll be able to put your foot on the list to see if shoe, then pull out slowly from the trailer and let it calm down. That reason is because the next time somebody gets a little bit loaded trailer. They won’t buster There are balls trying to crank it up because when you pull out from the trailer to drop just now only thing you’re doing his pack, a grease of the chef at landing gear and that’s what makes trailers hard to crank
Hey there I want to remind you if you are going thru southwest Virginia be careful on I-77 Fancy Gap Mtn. BEWARE of the wind and fog.Godspeed Virginia.
Use your warning diamonds or whatever you use to divert traffic on the side of the road. Put two down in the rear to show how far you need to roll. But the third one just outside your window and ahead of you. Mark it out with steps between the two rear ones then some point on your truck and step it out to place the third market. Get in and move up or back and done....
17:50: 4 holes on your tandem slider is 2 feet. Put a yard stick down on the ground next to your door, and move the truck 2' forward. It's that simple. Don't overthink things.
U are so lucky , I see the same 4 walls every nite and do the same freaking job . I'm going out of my mind. So I really hope u stay and look at the beautiful scenery every day . Good luck and I hope u have better days .
Hey Alex! Been watching your videos for a few weeks leading up to today. It's been a enjoyable experience watching you in your every day life trucking. Today I took my "A" Ministry test at a drive test center in Ontario and passed, gaining my CDL 🎉 :) I'll be following up employment with my training company in the dry van devision open board long haul. ❤ This step today is life changing for my financial situation. Looking forward to many more videos of yours 😊! Be safe buddy and remember what you're driving for. You have a growing family who thinks about you right here. 😎👌
Alex! Why not pack a bike or electric bike on the truck so you can explore interesting places you find yourself in on layover.? Surely you could stow one in the trailers or behind the cab somehow.
If your at a truck stop during the winter ( especially) when it's icy. Weigh your load on the Cat Scale first, go to a area at that's not covered with ice. Then slide your tandems. If your in a certain area near the dock in residential area, Before you slide your trailer tandems, make sure away from the dock an that your on level ground .
Thanks for your videos, it is interesting to see the work of a US trucker. I suggest you buy a wireless reversing camera that will also show you when you have set the wheels of your trailer correctly. You might build some kind of housing for it. Maybe there is also a good way to mount the camera on the trailer as well, so you can easily remove it to mount it on another trailer. I'm sure you could run into many situation in which a remote camera can become useful. Ebay has a lot of wireless reversing cameras.
I don't get why there isn't a wireless magnetic temporary backup camera that you can stick on the back of a trailer so you can see what you're doing better when backing up.
Watch "Riding Shotgun" trucker, he is excellent and he teaches as he drives on highway as well. All we ever see is you opening the trailing and backing up
You truckers should have a removable wireless cam that you could attach maybe magnetically to the back of the trailer then view from the cab to see better when backing up to keep from having to get out and check. 😉
On a mono scale as appose to the CAT scale, you drive on steers first then take the weight. Now you drive up onto it with the tractor and take the weight again. Now you drive the whole rig on the scale and take the weight. now all you need to do is some simple math and you are good to go in most cases.
You should invest on a shoe called Vassi they are pretty dope am a truck driver myself and these shoes are AMAZING. Waterproof and they keep your feet cool in the summer time
Alex, I enjoy your videos. Thank you. FYI sometimes when I blindside back I use the motor mirror function on the right to aim out to see the blind side better. Just me. If any help great.
That was the worst when I was OTR. Those unknown backwoods drives. Specially if you missed your turn and now the GPS would take you down backwoods roads for miles before you could turn around! Ugh!
You really gonna talk to your dispatcher about giving you some straps to secure them loads because the two loads I see you pull neither one of them was secure whether you know it or not if Something Happens it will all fall down on you not the company because you are operating the truck. Just a piece of advice from a 55 years driving experience driver good luck
You don't need to do laps or drive to build up air on trailer just push the red valve and leave it like that for 3 to 5 min and pull it out and then try to slide tendems.
Never trust 'scales' at locations. They don't tend to calibrate them, etc. And can be horribly inaccurate. Always go to a CAT scale if possible. Though if your company has a dedicated scale, it may be better. (Though depends on the company either way) And always remember, depending on where and whom, you may get pulled in and get that A-Hole scale master that wants to make sure EVERY SINGLE AXLE IS LEGAL. Just because you're legal on a group doesn't mean you're legal on every axle. (I've seen it before when bypassed, specifically in Oregon) where they were weighing every single axle, drop axle of a log hauler to make sure every single one was legal limit. Keep on trucking and drive safe. I see your companies trucks here and there here in Washington. Though considering the freight, if it's rolls of all the same type of product it's evenly distributed more or less vs hauling varying types of similar product that can be heavier or lighter. Makes evening out the weight easier at least! And final bit, they don't call em Freightshakers for nothing (Freightliners) :P
I pick up in Miami Florida and take the load to Blaine Wa.Every 2 weeks I do that or Weston Fl. to Port of Los Angeles.Seams like you just make short runs.
FUNNY I HAD A DELIVERY THERE LAST YEAR WHEN I DROVE FOR VL TRUCKING! MY TRUCK WAS 73 MPH DONT THINK ID LIKE DRIVING SLOW. NEBRASKA SUCKS! I remember several trucks from your company there must be their direct customer. been driving 8 years and blind side backing doesn't get any easier.
20:58: Why bother paying for ANOTHER CAT scale weigh? Diesel weighs 8 lbs/gallon everywhere on the planet; there is no mystery as to how much it will add to your truck's weight! Less money spent on pointless re-weighs means more money in your pocket....

Yes sir. That's the way to do it. You can even slide them all the way forward before you back in if it is really tight.
I say this out loud all the time lol. I learned this early on.
Truth
I agree with you I do the same thing when I backing up into a dock
Don’t they teach you that in school? Lol 😂

Pretty much every trailer made in the last 50 years has slider holes spaced at 6" apart. Don't know what you've been driving...
@@alexclement7221 I don’t know the exact measurement but I know some trailers have closer holes and some noticeably apart.
If it's a 1000 lbs and 2 inches apart then move 4 holes if it's 4 from hole to hole then move 2 holes.its not that hard.

If you have a electronic bike. It has to be stored in Side the truck. So it doesn't get wet.
