I laughed so hard at this video. Karma tried to take a giant bite out of your ass, and you just avoided her at every turn! Literally! 🤣 Great driving. You truly are an inspiration to us new drivers. Thanks a lot, Dave! 😂
I've had them days.... Little podunk places in little podunk towns, roads you think you're not supposed to be on... On days like that, I am so glad to see an Interstate.😂
Sheeeeesh...I realized that my body was tense watching this, LOL! I had to take a deep breath and I'm just sitting here in my living room watching. I can't imagine how you must've felt. But, damn, you handled it well! Kinda makes me upset when you, as a truck driver, get angry faces/gestures from folks in their cars. Do they not realize that they would not be able to get ANYTHING from stores without you all bringing it to us!! UGH! Thank you Dave and all the drivers out there!!!
good luck . 3 Pieces of advice. #1- Breathe. If you feel like you're getting in a situation. Stop and breathe. Everyone can either go around or wait. Otherwise you're likely to stack mistakes on top of mistakes and have a bad go of it. #2- Backing- If you want the rear of the trailer to go left, grab the bottom of the steering wheel and turn it left. Want it to go right. Turn the bottom of the wheel right. For some reason courses want you to do this mental gymnastics of where should the hood be pointing, or which way to turn the steering wheel ( normal grip), just remember grab the bottom and turn which way you need the back of the trailer to go. #3- Everyone from day one to year 40 has days where they can't back for crap. It's not a race, nor is every back the same. Pull ups are your friend and USE them.
I think you did a excellent job at backing up to the dock. I was a truck driver and I really miss it had to quit because of having to go on disability for heart trouble and also had to go on dialysis but I really enjoys your videos. So just Keep on keeping on big time trucker.
You have a much more positive attitude than I do. That's just a giant pain in the ass from where I'm standing. So damn stressful with no accommodation for their own business practices.
Tight places like that need to tell the dispatcher also make a note to yourself if ever get that customer again. (I'm sure you know, just saying my thoughts) Thanks for sharing I learn something on the problem solving in that position. Truckers what the drivers have to deal with.
I’ve done a lot of backs like that in little po dunk towns. Try getting your trailer angled ahead of time, turn your steers to straight when you back and let it drift in
That's a terrible place for a big truck like that to be on that's crazy but I'm glad you maid it out safely the things that truck drivers go through lord hav mercy great video dave.
I found the same road in Rocky Mount NC and it looks open on Google Earth. Google Earth doesn't update the photos for street view very often so the photos are at least 5 years old or maybe even 10 years old.
I’m in trucking school right now and I’ve just starting backing like this (on the left side)…and frankly I don’t find this real easy! I can do a straight back up but that one…let’s say it’s taking me some time! 😂
On the positive side: (after just watching the intro) 1) it was daytime and not pitch dark! 2) dry and sunny vs pouring rain or snow and ice 3) it wasn’t a curvy road 4) and not on a downhill.. That’s a few things that made it better than it could have been!
ahhhh ole rocky mount I live 30 mins away from there in Nashville. I try to avoid going there because of the traffic looks like you were in the out skirts of it but rocky mount is very city. but anyhow great video Dave glad you didn't let that back get to you !
Hey Dave, we all get these kinds of drops and pickups!! I've been twice to a drop at John Cole Spas, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, it's on Wilks and it is a narrow dirt driveway with no place to turn around! The business is a home type operation with a secured gate and almost no room for a 5 ton box to get in and get out. I've done it twice and it is a tactical game to line up with the drop box in the yard. Secretly, I love the challenge, but I hate the risks involved...so far, 2-0 for me!!! Life is simpler if we get to one of these situations and the dispatch is not constantly hammering our devices!!!! I almost want to chime back at them, "FUCK OFF!! Do you not see where you put me?"... Thank GOD for Timmies and a hot bevvy! Keep a cool head and think about what you need to do before you actually move the truck.
Lol, I dont miss driving but no two places are the same, unless your doing dedicated, or local. I remember having to back up like a whole football field lol good times.
Yeah, you've gotta be careful with that. Google Maps isn't always on par for updating it's map information when a railroad decides to close a grade crossing. Satellite view may show the road as still being open, but once you pop open street view at that intersection, you'll see that it's closed. Makes it an absolute pain in the ass.
So far not had this issue, and while i drive a box truck it is still around 30 feet long, i have had gps route me over a bridge with a no trucks and 3.5 ton weight limit, i was close to 10 tons, and i another instance the bridge was 3.5m tall and i was 3.85, had to make a u turn in the first instance and reverse against traffic in the second, fun stuff for sure :)
F**k her not being happy. Four wheelers piss me off multiple times a day, every day. F 'em!...I say that all the time, too, dude: "I don't want to be here any more than you want me to be here". 😁
Why does it always sound like your power steering is struggling? Also......may want to remind and revisit the button hook. Will save you a lot of indigestion in those tight areas.
Your dispatcher either loves or hate you so much Very busy town for its size and not truck friendly AT ALL lol. Glad you got your mirror fixed. Did they tell you what hit you?
“Put it in reverse terry!!!” 😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
BEST MEME EVER 😂
“Oh Lawwwd!”😂🤣😅

THIS is why we need a trucker version of google maps. Where truckers can submit road closures or truck routes etc. Thanks for the video Dave!
We have that called Trucker Path and Hammer

Bummer man that dead end thing has happened to me many times. No way you could’ve known either. But you stayed cool and got out of it safely 👌
I started as a company-driver. The VERY fist load i had was blind-side at receiver.
Good job with that back-in.
Loved the adventure, Dave, Stay safe.
Oh no not the dead end 😂😂😂😂😂
At the dead end at least you had a nice place to turn around.
You did good. I've seen worse.
Safe travels, Dave. Thank you for trucking.
They love watching truck drivers back in to docks: it happened to me a few times
Kind of reminds me of Mickie from the old commercials - Your dispatcher is just giving these runs to you because "Give it to Dave - he can do it!😆😆😆
they backup the entire way out and bystanders watch to see if you fuck it up.
Always a relief once you leave small places like that 😅
Looks like you got your driverside mirror fixed Dave. 👍
Google maps be like “make a u turn in a quarter mile” to take you back down that same street 😂
Dang son you’re in my hometown, I know exactly where you’re at, I haven’t been on that side of town in years. Happy travels!!
Retired OTR here since 2021. Me and my laughing. We have been there, done that.
That little town threw every trick in the book at Dave lol. What a weird place to get around!
One of the first things I learned in trucking school was don’t use google maps lmao
You have a much more positive attitude than I do. That's just a giant pain in the ass from where I'm standing. So damn stressful with no accommodation for their own business practices.
This one week and a half everywhere i picked up or delivered at, i had to blindside into the dock they gave me. Frustrating week and a half!

Why is it that everytime you need to back on a street or unload on a street, every car in existence decides to go down that street
blind side is no preblem if you have a day cab. it's not ideal but no issue.
