@grubermotorcompany, Doug; There are several replies here asking where to get the tool and bit used. I can't find a link, model, nor part number. Please provide.
Funny thing is I’ve been using a harbor freight oscillating tool with a small custom made bit to open DC/DC converters to change the PTC & a/c fuses for awhile now. I was gonna make a bigger attachment bit if I did ever have to open a main battery. Just never had to yet. It is also great tool to get damaged glass ( front, top, and rear) out of cars. Thought people knew this? 🤷🏻♂
Before watching this I enisioned a horizontal hydraulic press with long arms mounted on a jig that holds the battery. But I think with the stiffness of the caulking this tool is exactly what is needed. A press might warp the panel because of the strength of the caulk.
Now how do you do the middle? Anyone who has actually removed a lid that has to be reused knows that's the hard bit, those side seals are really not that difficult in comparison!
@@tbarrera1833 about an inch, maybe a little more, but starting it is hard as there's nothing to lever against to get it started, and there are bits of box sections between the cells that make it hard to get to anything
@@grubermotorcompany nice, that's a good option for sure. I tried windscreen cutting rope as it was non conductive as it was my first lid, and ended up prying it with heat and a wooden wedge that worked surprisingly well by myself

I love how excited the tech looked! I would be happy too considering the manual labor part got easier! That's a great tool for the job.
Awesome! Every little step to make these repairs more affordable is great 👏👏👏

Impressive! Great to see industry leaning into the third party repair aspect of the EV market.

I was talking about Gen 1 dc converters on last comment BTW. Not sure on newer converters after that.
What are the blade models? Numbers or designations so I can order them, thanks!!
Well I bet you wish you had those blades a long time ago now!
The tool has been around for years, good deal will make packs so much easier to work on!
As Brian mentioned, "Much easier on the shoulders".
Good work Pete, my Tesla may need this. Good thing we're neighbors . JIM

Cannot find these cutters on the Fein web page.

I'm using windshield removal Equalizer 😊
Fein tools are pretty awesome.
Hopefully this lowers the cost of repairs due to less manual labor!
We are already shaving hours off an open pack repair.
Great video.
Thanks George
and you both had the Gruber shades. Very cool.
How about using some radiant heat to help soften the sealant?
The old dudes wearing sunglasses 😂
Perfect

We use a 4' Cheese Cutter and two guys alternating back back and forth,. Not easy.
