Followed these instructions from start to finish and swapped out my handlebars last night. I'm a 61 y.o. disabled woman that knows how to use tools. LOL I have a set of PARK multi bike tools and used them to do the entire project. I even used my "potbelly" compressor with the nozzle to get the grips off. Worked like a charm!!!
That’s Awesome! I’m glad you were able to get it all together!
Pancake compressor
TIP: use hair spray to put the new grips on! IT's very slippery until it drys, then it is sticky and holds them on well.
Great tip thanks!
Just like your wife i wanted the grips a little closer. I considered getting a replacement handlebar. Then i took a good look at the stock handlebars and noticed they had a bend that made them about 1 1/2" higher. at the grips than at the stem. I simply rotated the handlebar 90 degrees then loosened set screws and adjusted position of brake handles, throttle, display, and power control button. In just a couple minutes I had my grips 1 1/2" closer, and more comfortable. The loss of height was easily fixed with the adjustable head tube latch. The hardest part of the job was rotating the hand grips which were really tight on the handlebars, but that was accomplished with the help of channel lock pliers.
Just did this for my wife's XP2.0 and she's all smiles! She says it takes the pressure off her hands which were stretching to reach the brakes and shifter with her small hands and minor arthritis in the thumbs. She feels it is a more relaxed position in general and since she is mostly street riding rather than trail, she appreciates the more upright position. Thanks Jeremiah for the tip!
Thank you. Glad she is enjoying a more comfortable ride now! Happy trails!
Great idea… thanks for sharing. My wife is having the same issue… 👍
Can you still remove the handlebars for travel? I can't take mine out anymore, though there should have been plenty of cable. Shop put them on, and I wonder what went wrong and if I can fix it. Can't get it in the car now!
Try folding the stem down some then try removing them, it will give you more slack in the wiring.
@@JeremiahMcintosh Ah! Discovered shop had removed cable covers and bunched up all the slack under the cage the bike sits on while folded. I pulled slack back up to top, replaced cable cover and folded stem some and was able to get the top stem out! Thank you. Now I should be able to get it through the back seat car door!
I love the stock grips... You don't need to hold the handlebars tight if your on a smooth road. You actually turn a bike by pushing on the the grips over 2mph.. push the right grip to turn right. I know this from my motorcycle racing days. Its all about pushing and pressure to turn at riding speeds.
Thanks, game changer. I am a 59 year old female. Those new handlebars should come standard. Because of you I was able to install them myself.
I can sit straight up on the bike now and because of that, my field of sight has improved. Much safer as well as more comfortable. Means a lot.
Awesome Joann. I’m glad I was able to help and thanks for the feedback I appreciate that!
Jeremiah, I appreciate the time, effort and details you provide in your Lectric Ebike accessory reviews. Thanks.
Thank you.
I just changed my handlebars. It was easy following your video. Thanks!
I'm liking this video for the perfectly timed bell chime synced with the pop.off of the grip. Bravo.
Watched your video and didn't have any problems changing out the handlebars. I did feel the throttle cable was a little tighter than before because of the extra reach so I changed how they were wrapped up to give a little slack in the wire. Appreciate you videos.
You can buy grip glue but I prefer hair spray! Just spray it in each grip and that's it. It's a lube when putting on the grips and sticks them tight when dry. I'd let them rest over night to let the hair spray dry. Almost no residue when the grips are removed. I always use "ultra hold" for this purpose. I have put on 10's of thousands of grips using this method and it always works.
Awesome tip! Dang that’s a lot of handgrips!
@@JeremiahMcintosh yup, I was making a product that had handgrips. They were 25" long and even had to slide over two 90 degree bends. I compared with grip glue and the hairspray worked best.
I really appreciate this video. I have a Lectric XPremium and I will be changing the bars and the hand grips. I am glad you showed how the new bars work when you fold down the bike. I will be using different grips but I liked how you showed how easy it is to replace them. Thanks again for all your videos on the Lectric bikes. I have had mine over a year now and really love it.
Loved it. Another entertaining and educational video like always Jeremiah! Good job!
You’re the best uploader for Lectric Bikes. I enjoy watching and learning, it’s really helps with my confidence in modding my bike.
Thank you glad you’re enjoying them!
Wow! The grip removal tip is GREAT! Now I won't have to cut the old and install new.
Thanks for mentioning the ring near the throttle. Sometime after replacing my handlebars for some a little wider about two months ago , I found a ring on the garage floor and couldn't figure out where it came from. I hung on to it, knowing I'd figure it out sooner or later, and today I did!
Glad I could help!👍
Good job! I changed mine as well to a little taller and about 2 3/4 wider bars. Very nice difference. Even better control.
Great info Jerry thanks!
I replaced my handle bar's just like this video. It made my seat more comfortable when riding. This made it when my back hurt a little I could still ride. my bike became easy to ride longer and i wanted to ride more often.
I’m really enjoying your videos hopefully I’ll be getting one in the spring.
thanks for the nice Vid....we just purchased two & decided to rotate the main handlebar shaft around gaining at least 5 inches right off.. As beach crusier people Ill probably do this change as well & never knew the air compressor trick . thanks for this.
Award for best Lectric XP tip: using air pressure to remove the handle bar grips!
Lol thanks 👍
That's how I did it. They were so tight that I could not rotate them on the bar, even with a big set of pliers, but the air pressure popped them right off.
the info for what I was looking for. Wife needs the handle bars set back closer to her. Will be ordering a new handle bar. Great Job. thanks for all the info
Hi jeremiah. Good video.. I changed out my straight bar for a swept back style about a month ago. My bike is an ecotric. So much more comfortable and the hand numbness has disapeared on long rides. Definately recomended and especially so if you have been having discomfort in the wrist, hand and back areas..
Excellent video! My wife has mentioned that she wishes the handlebars were a bit closer as well, so this is an upgrade that we will look at as well.
I had to adjust my handlebar, as the hand grips were pointed downwards. This put everything that was mounted on the bars out of position. When adjusting the shifter, it took an impact driver to loosen up the Phillips head screw. I’m sure others will run into the same problem.
Thanks for the great demonstration and tips!
Thanks Rik!
I had a similar problem the other day my whole handle bar got loose on my commute. And had no tools to fix it that time. Just want to tell everyone to tighten the handle bar before riding at least once a month cuz it might come loose.
I replaced the Phillips screw with an Allen head screw because I couldn't tighten it enough when adjusting.
Awesome video. Enjoying my Step thru alot, this probably will be my next upgrade.
Awesome. My wife likes them!
Great video! I want to replace my ebike handlebars as well and this gave me the confidence that I can do it myself!
Great video very well explained. Thank you¡
Thanks for this very helpful video, this old man appreciates the tips.
My pleasure.
Thanks for the information.
Great job Jeremiah. Nice retro fit video.
Fantastic video. Really learnt some good stuff here.
Awesome dude. Great video. I thought about fipping the handle bars to gain 5 in but a new bar will give me more room for accessories. Thanks.. Great Video !!
Hey Jeremiah. I got my lectric xp Tuesday. Its beautiful 😍. I got a black step thru. I changed the handle bars just as you did. It has made a big difference. Much more comfy. I did not remove the stem. I loosened everything and just slid it right in the stem. I only remove the dipay. Thanks for making good videos. Love your videos.
Awesome! I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos and the Bike! Thanks!
Thanks J
Great video 🤙🏽. This some great tips to work on a bike.

how smart...thank you
I'm so glad to see a woman's perspective of these Lectric bikes. And thank you , thank you, thank you for showing the new handle bars and the installation!! I'm 5"1' . How tall is your wife? I bought a commuter ebike and it's way to big. The seat has to be all the way down so I'm looking to sell it and get a Lectric xp 2.0 or Doheny step through. Good to know about changing the handle bars because I have a shoulder issue and with the longer reach with the bike I have, it limits my time on the bike. GREAT VIDEO!!!
Thank You. She is 5’ 3”
I just did this job, and your video was a great resource for advice. Love the new look and improved feeling of control!
When it warms up some around here, I will watch your video again and change out the brake cylinders. I already have the parts.
Thanks a lot, Jeremiah
You’re welcome. If you bought the same calipers as me and they came with organic pads just be cautious if you go down long steep hills because the braking power will be greatly reduced when they heat up.
@@JeremiahMcintosh How do I tell if they are organic? And, what is the alternative?
Making another video of course 😁
Your reviews and information are always great. Thumbs up and subscribed.
Cool video! Thank you.
THANKS WOW REALLY HELPFUL BW
Very helpful. Thanks
Good video, thank you
Good job!! here are a couple more tips for you. If you blow air on the edge of the grips on the bars that will move them also. but for most people we do not have a compressor so rubbing alcohol works great. I got mine off with a small screw driver to lift up the edge and squirting in rubbing alcohol . remove the screw driver and 2 twists per side and the were off, quicker then you did using air. but air on the other side of the grip would have been quicker for you too. That is how they remove open end grips since there is a hole on the end. When I did mine I put the grips on before I tightened the brakes and shifter. Made it much easier to get the spacing and my make sure the throttle still moved freely.
Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for making this video.
Your welcome. Glad you liked it!
I really enjoyed your video. Thanks for the step by step on how to change your handle bars it really helps to take the mystery out doing the job. So helpful thanks for sharing.👍😀🇨🇦
You’re welcome. Thank you!
I would like to know where I can order a
@@robertbilmer2624 Hi I bought the same handlebars and I bought them on Amazon. I am very happy with how they feel and perform.
Another great video! Got my wife a used Volt Urban so she can join me on the road. Keep on truckin’!
Thank you!
Looking to purchase two Lectric bikes looks like a great upgrade !
Love your videos. We are retiring to FL as of November and getting two of these bikes to ride all over Punta Gorda.. Thanks for all your videos on this bike.!!!
Thanks John glad you are enjoying my videos!
Going to be a blast to have those bikes in Punta Gorda! You're going to need two kayaks too!😎
"Basically..." thank you for these Lecktric videos.
You are welcome!
He does say "Basically" quite a bit. I play a drinking game and take a shot every time he says it. I'm shit faced on the floor drunk by the end of the video !
😂 I’ll make sure to throw a few extras in the next one lol.
I am waiting for my bike to arrive. I enjoy watching your videos on tips accessories..
Thank you Debbie I appreciate that!
Waiting on my xp to be delivered; feels like an eternity and it’s only been a week!I’ve been watching your videos every day, itching with anticipation.
It is a long wait but well worth it!
Your right :)
Nice video dude .. thanks!
Thank You!
Hey Jeremiah, you do the best analysis on any reviewers have come across. Just a thought dude, I would love to see you accomplish front suspension. Views on that would top any you have done so far...n 1️⃣.
I sit here and watch all your videos all day long long story and I'm no mechanic great job
Thank you!
For the price and time it took to change the handlebars, I think it was a worthwhile investment for that smile. Beautiful yard too. Happy riding!
Thank you very much!
Coulda measured from the seat post? The grip removal tip is gold! 👍🏼
Jeremiah, you give us 👍 advice on how to get the most out of the lectric, keep up the good work dude.
That looks good!. Looks like you got more mounting space too👍
Yeah maybe just a little but not too much more if any
Great video. I am about to buy a Lectric XP 2.0 and will probably make the same mod. I see we shop for tools at the same place (HF). One handy tool from the web i(not HF) s a "Y" shaped 4/5/6 mm allan wrench.
well done mate
Thank you!
Perhaps Lectric fellers should pickup on your idea and make the handlebar look like the one you installed, it's a much better fit for that bike.
Pedro Fernandez or Lectric should offer a choice of handlebars as part of the order.
Good presentation…helpful…thanks…be safe…
Thank You Norman!
Thanks for all the great videos and this one in particular...
My question is with the stock straight handlebars steering is a bit wobbly for me.
Do you think steering is a lot better and better steering control with these new handlebars.?
Thanks for answering me in advance and keep posing new videos.
Richard
Thank you for this video! Ordered new bars, but realized I ordered the wrong size after watching your video, so I ordered from your link. Hoping this helps the numbness and pain in my hands & wrists!
It’s a nice upgrade and more comfortable in my opinion. Let us know what you think after you get them installed!
@@JeremiahMcintosh the handlebars are much better than the ones that come on the bike! I took it for a spin tonight & didn’t have any numbness or pain. I feel I’m sitting more upright, which will also help my back.
Great to hear and thank you for the update.
Hey man really enjoy your work . I recently got an xp , totally dig it . You are far more knowledgeable than I . Have you fixed the odometer accuracy yet ? I made a change on one of the settings , and would like to share that with you , and get your opinion please .
Love it! I know it makes a huge difference to her back. I have lower back issues and I think I’ll get my handlebar changed WHEN MY BIKE ARRIVES. Hopefully, not much longer. It would be nice if that was an option when you purchased the bikes. Thank you, Jeremiah, for all your reviews and accessory choices. You have helped me in deciding a lot to be ready when my bike arrives. Hello to your wife son. They are blessed to have you to take such good care of them. Your skills are priceless. You have a beautiful family. If I could ride as many miles as your son, I’ll be very happy!
Oh yes, I hope a sponsor sends some of those communication helmets to review so you and your family can communicate while riding. Then we will know which ones you like. I saw some that up to four family members can communicate with. I think those are so important to have.
Thanks again!
Thank you Donna! I would love to review some communication helmets! Like you said maybe I will get lucky and someone will send me some🙏
Jeremiah Mcintosh I know I didn’t call them the correct name, but I think you know what I am speaking of. I heard you mention them before. I hope you get to review some. Have a lovely day.
Ps. I enjoy all of your reviews. Hello to your family.
Jeremiah Mcintosh thank you for mentioning the LECTRIC XP OWNERS GROUP in one of your reviews. I tell other owners about the group as well. It’s a wonderful group. Have a lovely day.
@@JeremiahMcintosh hi from Georgia. I finally got 210 miles on my eBike! I haven’t been able to ride since last Sunday because I started a spinal cord stimulator trial on Monday, November 30th. I will return to the doctor to have the lead removed from my back on Monday, December 7th. It’ll probably be awhile before I ride again, unless I use throttle only, because I will have the stimulator implant on December 22nd. Then, I most likely will just wait until the spring of 2021 to ride again, depending on how my back heals after getting the spinal cord stimulator implant.
Hello to your beautiful wife and son.
Oh wow Donna I wish you the best! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Hopefully you’re back out riding soon!
Just got an xp. The headset bolts are smaller than 5mm but 4mm is loose. Any idea what size they are?
Nice
Great stuff! Fine job. Can you also link the allen wrench key set? Most of what I see on Amazon is too basic (no 2.5, for example). Thanks
I am worried about the reach on the Lectric bike, I can see just from the videos of people riding that my 5'2" height might be a problem. Now I see there is a solution! Thanks for sharing.
WOW, that was a HUGE difference, just HUGE....!!! LOL...
lol not a huge difference but definitely feels different.
Nice ebike!
Thanks!
Hey Jeremiah, another good video...remember “happy wife, happy life”
Exactly!😁
@@JeremiahMcintosh Always informative. Your wife should be very happy with that three inch improvement.
Is there a way to change out the throttle to match new grips? It's hard and unforgiving, i am thinking of going with a yellow and black theme.
Thanks
Hoping this switch will do the trick in making me comfortable on my new black ST 2.0. I haven’t been on a bike in many years and didn’t do well on my first attempt ( no motor- just wanted to try the bike first and down I went). I was so uncomfortable and a bit afraid but I really want to learn to use this bike and get out more at 70. I waited 12 weeks for it so I’m not giving up easily! I love your videos!
Awe sorry you fell over hopefully you can get out there soon!
Glide down a slightly down sloping longish driveway while steering gently towards the right onto the roadway at end of driveway; do this repeatedly a dozen or so times till one gets the hang of it and is comfortable gliding down the driveway; and then simply when one is confident enough the simply gradually add in some pedaling to the routine gliding down the driveway onto the roadway exercise till one is fully confident in controlled pedaling of one's Lectric XP bike; do not rush the process and simply proceed at one's own self actualized pace and progress; soon you will be Lectric XP biking without any problems whatsoever; also one may want to upgrade one's flat style handlebar that comes stock with one's Lectric XP bike with one that is also a flat style handlebar but who is about five inches longer across in the width dimension; this will add even more control and stability to one's overall biking experience; simply have the local bike shop handle the actual needed details of doing the upgrade work for the best positive outcome so they can also recommend and work with you to make all the major and/or minor optimal anticipated or needed adjustments to the upgraded handlebar as well as the remounting of all the original handlebar mounted components back onto the new upgraded handlebar also as well; that way you can more optimally and readily start enjoying your new Lectric XP new found safe highly enjoyable biking experience; the local bike shop that I use locally is very pro bicycle customer modification friendly and so should the one that you select to use also as well; keep searching for the local bike shop who will work with you in terms of being bicycle customer modification friendly as they are likely to be needed for any potential future bicycle modification project upgrade work that you may have in mind to add even more overall optimal enjoyment of your new Lectric XP bicycle.
I’d like to get the same mirrors as you installed, but my grips seem to cover a handlebar that terminates with a plastic plug/cap. That plug is covered by the contoured grip with just a small hole in the rubber to see the plug capping the tube. It does not appear easy to remove the grips without damaging them. Would a solution be drilling out the small hole in the end of the rubber contoured grip to open up the path past the plastic plug/cap to the hollow tube of the handlebar?
Have you considered the Kenda Kraze tires sold through Rad cycles? Seem pretty sweet.
Thank you for the detailed info. I just ordered an XP 3.0 Black Friday Special. I also ordered the bars through your link, I hope they used the same gooseneck on the 3.0.
Thank you for the support Scott! For the 3.0 use the link in the description of my 3.0 video because the handlebar is bigger where it mounts than a 2.0.
@@JeremiahMcintosh Crap, thank you for the quick response, I will try and cancel the Amazon order and go find your 3.0 link.
Lol your welcome. I did mention it in the 3.0 review video.
The two bolts on the top to get the handlebar loosened were extremely tight. I tried everything to get them off but I was afraid they would strip so unfortunately I found is not doable, any suggestions would be helpful.
Cool mod. I'm hoping the wider 2.0 handlebars will be ok, but now I see I can change them out if need be. Nothing better than brownie points with the wife!😎
Happy wife happy Life lol.
I just got the 2.0 for my wife and she's complaining about the handlebars, having to reach too far. I'll order the handlebar shown here and see if she likes the change, and return them if they aren't better.
I think she will like them a lot better. Please Keep us updated after you get them.
@@JeremiahMcintosh I should have them on in a few days. I'll post the results.
I don't have an air compressor so I pried up the edge of the grip, sprayed in some WD-40, waited 30 seconds and the grips twisted right off. Since I put new grips on, all I did was wipe the bar, clean with alcohol and slide the new grips on.
Glad the recommendation worked for you.
So,all in all there not really wider but just swoop back instead of straight across? Right
You have 2 other handlebars listed. What is the difference between the two?
I'm thinking of adding throttle to my Aussie edition Fortis fat bike (has same tyres as Lectric), Aussie law has something against throttles, have also unlocked the higher PAS levels, it now goes to 35kph
Just bought a thumb throttle, I did check that the controller has the 3 wire connector for the throttle before ordering, I heard that the later bikes don't have the throttle wires
Ummm neighbor. Yes you are a mechanic. Does Lectric know you're their best salesman? Waiting on 2.
What was the width of the stock handlebar?
Jeremiah, will i have to cut a hole in my stock lectric grips to get the mirror on?
Yes you would.
Ordered on 10-18-20.confirmed next day.shipped day after. My first bike was a rr5 which I had to send back as it was too big.ikm 5 10 and the lock has ticked past 80. I am not the man I used to be lol. I think that the Lectric should be more my size.lookslike less than a week wait.lucky? Hope so.
Great video on changing the handlebar, much appreciated the hint for taking off the grips. Question for you Jeremiah. Have you seen anyone selling an indoor trainer for stationary riding on the Lectric? We live in Wisconsin and want to be able to ride indoors during the winter. I saw your video on riding in the snow, and agree I don't want to get meted snow (water) on the working or electric parts of the bike. Plus, it is just too damn cold to ride outdoors...... Thank you for any help.
Thank you Rick! No I haven’t seen anything like that sorry.
@@JeremiahMcintosh Thank you for your quick reply. I will keep looking. No one in the Lectric Owners Group on FaceBook has yet to respond either.
Great video Jeremiah! Any plans to put a suspension fork?
No I don’t plan on doing that at all.
The e bike I got after selling my Lectric, also has swept back handlebars and all my hand discomforts went away for good.
I agree they do feel a little more natural in my opinion.
Hi my husband and I just ordered two Lectric XP Step-Thru I’m excited can’t wait but there pre- back ordered for October :( I started to watch RUclips about these bikes I saw your video thank for the tips Do you have a video to set them up?
Check out my playlist I have a lot of different videos that should answer most questions. ruclips.net/p/PL_IKMv6nDehbb-eKdHAUeucu9gCJ8XsXq
Jeremiah Mcintosh thank you!
Hey Jeremiah, really enjoy your videos, great content. Question for you and your subscribers. I looked at the bike racks in your links but they are "Prohibited" for RV Use. I'm looking for a 2-Bike Rack to fit in a 2" Hitch on my Class C RV. The ones I've saw are "Prohibited" from RV Use. Any suggestions?
Thanks Roy gonna check on it.
Get J not sure if it’s been said but I just went to the link and it says currently unavailable. Maybe I’ll try putting it on my wish list or searching for a similar style. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for letting me know I’ll try to update the link if I can find another similar one.
All this adjustment looks great but are they also applicable to the new 2.0 xp? do they share the same dimensions?
Yes the handlebar upgrade is the same for the 2.0 as in this video.
Jeremiah, does these mirrors work on the original handgrips that come with the lectic bike. Do you have to cut out the rubber on the end. Thanks
Yes they will work with the factory handlebars and yes you will have to cut a hole in the end of the grip.
Looks to me like the bar end mirror is completely blocked by your arm. I ordered a Meachum brand because it's bigger and maybe higher up. If not I will buy the same Meachum upright mirror I had on my KBO Breeze
Soapy water helps slid the grips back on. It eventually dries out and disappears.
