    I wasn't going to replace my 1gen til 2022, but I caught wind the G56 was going away and ordered mine just before they shut 2018 ordering down. It was built in late October and delivered in December. Surely one of the last G56 trucks ever built. I love it to bits.

      I got my 2018 w/g56 in November of 18.
      I got lucky, it was a cab and chassis tradesman and that's exactly what I wanted.
      Was 500 miles away and the dealer went and got it from another dealer for me.

      I came insanely close to trading in my 2013 Silverado for one in Sept 2018. I was looking at Rams and decided I wouldn't get serious unless I saw one with white ext, cocoa/dune interior, manual, and leather seats. Damned if that 2018 didn't have every one of tbose features. Ultimately, I bought an engagement ring instead. I think about it now and then, but now being married and not having any payments (Silverado been paid off since 2014), is not a bad place to be.

    From the first day I bought my 2020 Ram I adjusted my mirrors in the vertical position and never thought twice about. I tow a travel trailer once in a while, but I daily drive with my mirrors vertical. You can see so much; which is safer. I never once thought about what others might think about them. I never knew that was a thing. No one has ever said anything to me about them either, so ride with them up man.

    Had an 06 6spd with a TST computer advertised at 500hp and 1000ft lbs torque. I had to replace the stock clutch with a South Bend to stop it from slipping, even then I usually had it set on the 4th level out of 9. Best towing truck I ever owned.

Deleted with DRD, plus 4 inch straight pipe. after I install the clutch ill run the 90hp tune. 35x12.5 in Nitto ridge grapplers. love my truck as I can update any part of the dash whenever I want. Beautiful truck! Never should have sold my 06 3500 G56.
    I did a 3.42 gear swap in mine and it made it so much more enjoyable to drive. You could actually get some speed out of the lower gears and it lowered the cruise rpm 150-200 rpm, and gave an honest 1+mpg increase. Your truck has a slightly taller 6th gear already, so with a gear swap, taller tires, fully deleted and an economy tune, the mpg would be incredible. I bet empty cruising at 60-65 you'd see 25 mpg. I plan on doing a build like that in the future.

    So with the mirrors being a Laramie you should have memory seats, with that if you put the mirrors up and set your memory again it will remember the position they're in (minus blind spot mirrors) and if you click the memory button after moving them it'll move to the proper angle. That's what I've experienced on my 16 2500 limited so I'd assume they kept it, also your blind spot mirror for the right side shouldn't need to be moved if it's set at the correct angle when folding the mirrors up or down.

    Love the 4th gen trucks. I think this review was pretty good. Sad they have phased out the mansmission from all the diesel trucks. But that's the world we live in. Oh and you were on point with the mirrors. That's one thing I hate with my 2001 also but at least you have power adjust mirrors. Mine are manual. Some day I'd love to get into a 4th gen but for now I'll keep chugging along in my stock '01 2wd 3/4 ton ext cab long bed nv5600 Cummins. Hopefully mods will come along for it next year.

      And the 4th gen mirrors have a way better blind spot piece. The 2nd gen mirrors have a small square in the top left/right when down and then when folded out it's the bottom left/right. It's not the worst and it does its job but the full strip like the 4th gens have is a million times better. Whether they're up or down.

I put in LED bulbs in the headlights and the fog lights put out just as much if not more light then they do.

    Remote started?! Can you doe that on manual transmission?!

  • @WTFChuk
    @WTFChuk 4 года назад

    The clutch isn't the reason the engine is derated, the trans is. Sure, you can drop a dual disk South Bend clutch with a solid flywheel and crank the truck up to the Aisin power levels or more, but you will eventually hatch the trans. The factory tested these transmissions and they know how much torque they can take and survive. Manuals are also hard on downstream parts compared to automatics, especially if the driver sucks or just plain abuses it.
    The ZF S6-650 6 speed manual that Ford and GM used ia actually a better, more durable transmission vs the G56, but even they won't hold up to current stock power levels if used hard or abused. Ford and GM also had to eventually derate the models with the ZF, and because of that and the general lack of interest in manual transmissions by most buyers the sales numbers dropped to the point where it was no longer worthwhile to keep making them. You had an Allison in your Dmax, so you know why most buyers would opt for it over the manual, especially considering you get an engine with full rated power.
