25 years as a firefighter and never saw a structure fire put out from the outside. If your not going to get in, fight it from the inside and put it out just call it a barbecue and pack up and go home.

I love nothing more than good offensive firefighting and getting inside and knocking a fire down but there is no justification in getting someone killed when the building is as good as destroyed and can be replaced.

That's because you don't know anything about firefighting. The group of 4-5 guys on the right is the Rapid Intervention Crew, their job is to immediately be available for any firefighter who's injured or trapped. And there's a lot of guy around the back too.
First lesson in fire fighting put the fire out. ( you can put as much water onto a tiled roof as you want and it will run off that's what they were designed for.) get some jets inside.
Had they opened that gable and put that master stream in it they the attic, they would have had it out in 90 seconds, and not pushed everything down into living space! Done it a hundred times, I know it works!

I question the logic of pouring water on the roof for it to just run off. Why wasn't there more effort to get the hose into a hole made in the attic? The fire is inside not on the roof. Plus, I understand that the owner's dog died in the fire. Was there any effort made to save the dog? Or,was the thinking, "Oh, it's just a dog. He can get a new one."? For many seniors their pets are family members and have greater emotional attachment. They are the answer to loneliness.
Interior attack I assume is for the paid city guys ... Never saw a PD fire with front door shut... Life and Property here .. I get it how it’s done and the boys are still risking there lives it’s just odd to see ..
