Dammit, why do you have to make me cry... I was really sad when Thatch died, then when Mary died I cried my eyes out, I stopped playing for a few days after that, I was really depressed... and the ending when Anne was singing and all the others showed up was just so beautiful....

Ubisoft, like most modern developers, seems to have mistaken political ideologies for good storytelling. And they lost everything that made this series what it was in the process, even the gameplay.
"But since it falls unto my lot, That I should rise and you should......" - The fade off and the silent "not" chokes me up every time. Those two lost almost everyone in a span of a few years, Edwards being forced to kill some of them and Anne lost her baby right after losing her friend. It just gets me every time that these two lost broken souls loved each other (platonically) and took care of each in their darkest times, later to part ways as friends. No assassins creed story has ever affected me so deeply.
@@disgustedcharlie6679 No, definitely Anne Bonny, the chick singing this song. They were both to be executed but pled their bellies. Mary gave birth a few months into imprisonment and due to the law, had her child taken away. Edward and Ah Tabai comes to rescue them right after Mary's birth to find Mary in a bad way and Anne pleading for the guards to help her. Ed helps them escape but Mary succumbs to infection before she makes it out. During the rescue Anne goes into labour and after being taken to an assassin settlement in Tulum she gives birth to a boy who dies not long after. Or have I missed the point you were trying to make?
There is only one thing ive'd learned on AC:Black flag.... DON'T LET WORRIES STOP YOU FROM BELIEVING IN YOUR SELF, WE MUST KEEP MOVING FORWARD, FORGET ALL THE TEARS AND FEARS,
That's pretty far away from the message of the game. Its message is that you should value the time and friend you have now instead of chasing a dream you can't reach. Edward realize that he missed everything only after loosing it.
Best ending of any game I've ever played. Him looking at the table and imagining all his friends and then looking again and realizing they're all gone. The song itself about loss and the realization that he needs to put this all behind him. That was the moment that Edward Kenway stopped being a pirate and started being a father.
Altair may be the OG, and Ezio may be the fan favorite, but to me the Kenway saga will always be the heart and soul of Assassin’s Creed. The story of Edward, Haytham, and Connor is so tragically brilliant.
I'm not one to cry, especially for a video game... but I cried at the final cutscenes of Black Flag. The song with Kenway's daughter coming to him for the first time, that broke me.
When I first played this game I couldn't get over that the music I grew up with and still listen too, was in it. I still remember my reaction to hearing The Star of the County Down playing in the Nassau tavern. Then got to the end of it I heard The parting glass sung by Anne Bonnie. It was more than fitting and brought a tear to my eye. One of the best games I ever bought.
I can't help myself. I heard many renditions of this song. Many... but this one feels just perfect for me. It carries the spirit of the song like none other for me.
Replayed Black Flag recently and forgot how emotional this game was. Especially when you think how many people Kenway lost. Edward Thatch, his mentor, was killed in front of him. Charles Vane lost his mind and was found broken and forgotten in a cell. Jack Rackham, betrayed him and his crew, found lifeless in some cell. Burgess and Cockram, fellow sailors, forced to die by his hand achieve his goal. Benjamin Hornigold, his friend and fellow privateer, severed their relationship and pitted them against each other. Stede Bonnet, his most innocent of allies, lost his life on the path Kenway sent him on. James Kidd, to be revealed Mary Read and his closest friend, died in his arms unable to be saved. Anne Bonny, who would survive her wounds, but not without facing immense suffering and loss. Caroline Scott, loving wife and mother of there child, passed away before he showed her how he's changed. Adewale, quartermaster and advisor, gave up on him and left him behind to live his life his own way. Not to mention countless pirates and crewman he knew that would face the gallows from the approaching empires. The collapse of their safe haven in Nassau. And the near destruction of the Assassin's Brotherhood in the Caribbean because of his selfish deeds.
I've never been one to get emotional over anything really but black flag was one of the few games I really got into and for the first time in my life I cried over a video game when I heard this song. it describes Edward kenway so perfect it seems surreal. I myself liove the game and love the story. the feels were too strong for me for once
The part where he looked at the table and the six random dudes were replaced by Thatch, Mary, Vane, Hornigold, Bonnet, and Rackham was the part that got me.
got tears hearing this, such a great game which I connected with on a different level. Felt like a true family with not only the characters but the RUclipsr playthroughs and streams. I want this song played at my funeral
This game was the first one to ever make me cry (and is still one of only two). It's such a beautifully-written story, and when Edward sees all of his friends sitting at that table at the end, it gets me every time!
The game has a good moral to it. Also, it's interesting when Black Flag's lessons are compared with Rogue's and one begins to notice the extremes of both ideologies.
I cried when black flag ended, and i got Rogue on a giveaway, so i just happily killing people as always, and then j went into a tavern to play somd drunk checkers, and halfway into the match, i just fall silent and tears start rinning down my face as the band starts playing this sonf, after that i just stopped and walked away.
kamj2003 Its crazy how these games can hit home for some people and give you a reality check or some sort of awaking I loved this game when she started singing diff had me in my feelings
Jonny Bravo yeah I was never a fan of black flag because of the sailing. but the story....that's completely different. but the ending has to be the best part as it wraps up Edwards character perfectly. started off trying to get coin and have nothing to do with the assassin's but then slowly force himself to join their cause and save the world. not to mention how, if I remember correctly, he has to assassinate hornigold leave rackham witness blackbeard die and Mary aswell. he has the best storyline due to how sad it is.
Ryan Hart....it is sad but all these pirates were real (except kenway) and thay all died the same way....the real thatch died in combat the real Mary of a bad fever....(all the people in ac games are real people if you didnt know most of them at least... never the person you play as though and they all died the same dates)and all that...personally I think ezios is the saddest having his family killed in front of him and once he's finished it all he dies not many years later in front of his wife and child.....honestly that made me shed a tear ...and this is still really sad too I love the AC games
My older brothers was Buried today, and while they sang a Christian song, all I could think of was this song. So I dedicate this song to my older brother Giovanni.
Lynxiies :3 Yes but you forgot the other part...He was later killed by mercenaries just like Edward....They both died in a same way - outnumbered and weaponless
Connor defeated an entire army but lost for some mercenaries, =( there must be a good reason of why he died, probably he was done with life and was like " You know what, just fucking kill me!" my favourite assassin
Unpopular opinion but this is my favourite version of the parting glass. Most videos I found were acapella versions and sounded a lot more cheerful while in this one the melody and the singer make it sound beautifully sad and fitting for the lyrics.
I played ac4 for years now and everytime I hear this, it breaks me. The scene where Edward looks at the table and sees his friends that were all gone made me cry and this song made it even worse.
This game was so impactful for me, I’m not ashamed to say the ending made me cry. By far, this was the best assassins creed game Ubisoft put out in my opinion
I played this game for the first time the summer before my senior year of highschool, 5 years ago. Now, 4 months out from gruauduating college, I find it again, with much the same sentiment as before.
You'd see all of mankind neatly herded, sober and safe... But dulled beyond reason and sapped of all spirit. So yes I do believe it. You wear your convictions well, they suit you ...
Rest in peace: Edward J. Kenway Edward "Blackbeard" Teach Charles Vane Jack Rackham Mary Read Stede Bonnet Jennifer Scott Haytham Kenway Connor Kenway. "In a world without gold, we could've been heroes" -Edward Teach They did not go gently. Goodnight, and joy be with you all.
Scratch Beats True. If Reginald Birch hadn't killed Edward, Haytham would be growing up in the Assassin's way taught by his father, instead of in the Templar's way as taught by Reginald.
Just bought a switch for the black flag once again and damn, I Just finished this tonight and Damn i can't get over this game ever in this lifetime. Thank you Edward and all the privateer fam.
I liked Anne, she was quite badass. She is nothing compared to Mary tho. I'd rather Anne die than Mary in that prison, but Marys death made Edward a better person. AH I WISH THEY HAD BABIES TOGETHER :c
Pyology X All of the Assassin's Creed games are based on real history. And in real history, Mary Reed died in prison just as she did in the game. No one knows exactly what happened to Anne Bonny, just that she wasn't executed (and probably got out somehow, either by bail or escape).
Sure the game is based on historical events, but not every single thing. If they didn't let Mary die, I don't think people would be like OH NO, BUT THAT DIDNT HAPPEN IN REALITY
Fun fact about my life: When my friend told me on discord he will spoil me the ending i turned off the discord and played from sequence 10 to 13 in 1 night
The scene with all of the characters sitting around the table at the end never fails to move me. Seeing them all having a good time together reminds you of how well Hornigold and Thatch got on at the beginning, Bonnet's good intentions, Vane before he went mad. Very sad ending for Edward as everyone he got to know is gone
it took one game for Edward to be the best protag, Ezio was just a stereotype Italian that had multiple games to tell his story, its the only reason he was so popular, plus nostalgia for when the game was super new and popular.
I’m ngl i really felt this song and the ending scene I’ve lost a few friends along this path and I i couldn’t help but cry and think that 1 day I’ll be able to see them again
I literally shed all the tears I could possibly could. At this moment. In the end. Where you see Kenway's friends, their journey, on the sea, travelling, plundering, stealing, it was really a very fun time.

I think its a beautiful irony that a video game exposes young people to their past and heritage through beautiful folk songs.
This goes to show that video games aren't bad if you haave responsibilities and not abuse it to much
They're a creative and beautiful medium through which young people can connect with characters and tales from the rich and storied pasts of their ancestors.
People tend to view video games as nothing more than childish distractions when they are every bit an art like books and movies.

Weak point and you missed the metaphor.

And now we have Odyssey which doesn't even look or play like Assassin's Creed.
Odyssey is $13 on ps4 and I’m still not buying it
At least Odyssey didn't retcon the whole series cough Origins
The Dank One except the parts where it did, which is most parts. Odyssey retconned more than any game in the series I’m pretty sure
Mary*
@@disgustedcharlie6679
No, definitely Anne Bonny, the chick singing this song.
DON'T LET WORRIES STOP YOU FROM BELIEVING IN YOUR SELF,
WE MUST KEEP MOVING FORWARD,
FORGET ALL THE TEARS AND FEARS,
True dat
You forgot you only need your fists to fight of an entire army
That's pretty far away from the message of the game.
Its message is that you should value the time and friend you have now instead of chasing a dream you can't reach.
Edward realize that he missed everything only after loosing it.
Also true love is tested everything is lost
that ending broke something inside of me :D
Agreed.
It did the same to me.
My ass.
Broke? Or ripped the bandaid off so you could properly heal?
@@Dethilion what?
"Kenway! In a world without gold, we might've been heroes!"
The thing that broke me was to watch how Edward imagined all the fallen ones drinking and celebrating there.
yeah man, me too.
Yet when I turn around and look at the course I’ve run, there’s not a man or woman I love left standing beside me - Edward Kenway
That's true ! Im so happy that i played this game !
Does Anne Bonny and Edward have died?

I cried a lot when i finished this game, one of the best games of the serie :')
got tears hearing this, such a great game which I connected with on a different level. Felt like a true family with not only the characters but the RUclipsr playthroughs and streams. I want this song played at my funeral
That ending really touched my heart... really...nuff said.

"You're a good man Edward, and if you learn to keep settled in one place for more than a week, You'd make a fine father too."
"In a world with out gold, we could've been heros"
Ryan Hart Facts really epic tho
Ryan Hart....it is sad but all these pirates were real (except kenway) and thay all died the same way....the real thatch died in combat the real Mary of a bad fever....(all the people in ac games are real people if you didnt know most of them at least... never the person you play as though and they all died the same dates)and all that...personally I think ezios is the saddest having his family killed in front of him and once he's finished it all he dies not many years later in front of his wife and child.....honestly that made me shed a tear ...and this is still really sad too I love the AC games
The Wandering Dovahkiin Which AC game he died in front his wife and kid?
This song still gives me goosebumps, especially when Edward looks at the table and sees everyone he lost
My older brothers was Buried today, and while they sang a Christian song, all I could think of was this song. So I dedicate this song to my older brother Giovanni.

Yes but you forgot the other part...He was later killed by mercenaries just like Edward....They both died in a same way - outnumbered and weaponless
Oh, I didn't know that. Very interesting
Connor defeated an entire army but lost for some mercenaries, =( there must be a good reason of why he died, probably he was done with life and was like " You know what, just fucking kill me!" my favourite assassin
As I Grow older this song reminds me of all the friends that I loss though out the years makes me cry Love this song and this game
Unpopular opinion but this is my favourite version of the parting glass. Most videos I found were acapella versions and sounded a lot more cheerful while in this one the melody and the singer make it sound beautifully sad and fitting for the lyrics.

I'm not much of a fan of Anne but dayum she can sing a perfect end song for ac XD
I liked Anne, she was quite badass. She is nothing compared to Mary tho. I'd rather Anne die than Mary in that prison, but Marys death made Edward a better person. AH I WISH THEY HAD BABIES TOGETHER :c
Pyology X also history.
What?
Pyology X All of the Assassin's Creed games are based on real history. And in real history, Mary Reed died in prison just as she did in the game. No one knows exactly what happened to Anne Bonny, just that she wasn't executed (and probably got out somehow, either by bail or escape).
Sure the game is based on historical events, but not every single thing. If they didn't let Mary die, I don't think people would be like OH NO, BUT THAT DIDNT HAPPEN IN REALITY
