Stan shops at my local Mitre10, but I was too star struck to talk to him when I saw him there... 😅Instead, I told his wife/partner what an absolute legend he was! I've already done a couple of projects after watching his videos, I've learned new ways to use some of my tools, and I know this one is going to be a godsend on my retaining wall project. Love your work!
The man’s a national treasure
I am grateful for hardworking people that take the time to share their experience with home and property maintenance.
We're so stoked to hear this Vincent! Have you got any projects on the go right now?
This is a genuinely good tutorial. Hard to come by these, deserves more praise.
Boys down under making it all look easy! Cheers for the tips, I'll be doing my best to recreate this in the UK with equivalent materials.
Nice work, let us know how you get on ^Charlie
Excellent video and presentation, Professional and clean jobsite. One of the best videos I have seen yet and I am a General Contractor. Good job cobber.
Great video, as usual. Yours are the best.
Good stuff mate. Much appreciated from the Adelaide hills. Like your concept.
Beautiful work 💕👍
Thanks. Very clear and helpful. Like all your tutorials
Cheers! ^Matt
Thanks mate, your educational videos are very easy to understand the tasks and step by step guidelines, I am building soon my retaining wall I am fully confident now after watching this video, great work..keep it up, if possible can you please create content on decking on concrete slabs backside of home?...many thanks
So glad to hear our videos helped Ajay, good luck for your upcoming project! I'll be sure to pass your suggestion onto the team for you ^Cam
True professional thanks for the useful hints
Awesome Video!
Wow, great advice boys!
I love this guy!
Very helpful. Thank you
Well done! Wish I had the skills to confidently do this!
Confidence comes through doing. Do the reading, watch the vids, talk with people who know how to do stuff, go slow, learn from your mistakes.
awesome explanations
Thanks for doing this video
That video is pretty helpful. My retaining wall is leaning over. I’m gonna put some drainage behind it just like in your video.
Awesome! Let us know how you get on, and feel free to flick us a DM if you have any questions during the process at all 👍 ^Billie
Great video. Thanks
Thanks so much for the support! ^Cam
What happen to the Geo textile fabric around the PVS pipping?
Exactly how i would have done it but i would have used alot more swearing and beer. The empty bottles go behind the wall, [its called drainage].
Is there a video on how to install that green plastic meshing as a fence? I need some privacy when i walk around naked in my backyard.
Not at this stage but that's some great feedback for the team Sean, cheers ^Charlie
This was really helpful, thank you!
Not a problem, glad it was helpful 😊 ^Charlie
@@mitre10nz I have a picture if y'all want to see, just not sure how to post it. Going to pour concrete tomorrow
Wait, I've seen this same video before. Is it a re upload?
can you do carpet laying video?
" TOP CLASS " VID CHEERS
Very good tutorial.
Thank you ^Charlie
Nice Bro 🇲🇦✌
Hmmm - we don't have any boundary pigs (1:07). Cheers and thanks for the vid from across the 'detch'. ;-)
Nice job. Cheers kiwi
Thanks Daniel 👍
Sweet as bro
Great vid. Just one question: How deep should the post holes be?
As a rule of thumb, your hole should be as deep as your wall is high 👍
His outfit is so Australian lol Thanks for the video!
He's not Australian tho
Can we put the posts at the back instead and get the nice looking flat face to the front?
No, they are structural
The soil presses the boards into the posts, which are firmly fixed in the ground. If the boards are on the front, the soil will eventually push them off the posts ... but for appearances, you can always add another (non-structural) layer on the front, either thinner boards or exterior-grade plywood, forming a cavity wall. @@timaustin917
should have used metalex on those raked cuts you made on the retaining wall boards
What post spacing did you use?
These are 1.2m apart ^Charlie
1.2m centre to centre
Cool
Should the section of the post embedded in the concrete be painted with any sort of protective coating?
Hey Chris, we'd suggest checking in with the team at your local store to see what they'd recommend for your area and your particular project ^Matt
I would not place drainage coil on 100mm of Scoria rather lay the coil on the clay with a 1 percent fall then Scoria or drainage metal on top, that way the drainage will actually carry the water away through the coil.
yup, also I would have used some geo fabric and being picky weathered the back of the wall swell
@@Turbocorksta I heard not to use geo fabric because the water and mud collect behind the wall, cause pressure, and causes the wall to bow.
I might have missed the link provided in description but to confirm are post at 1.2 meter center?
Hey there, yes Stan has done 1.2m centres for the post holes 🙂 ^Meg
I am wondering the post is fixed using cement, next time when you replace the post, how do you pull the post out?
Hi There, you can pry it out. You can do this with a long lever or a car jack. In either case, nail some wood to the post first to pry against and then get to work. Pry until the post releases from the concrete and comes all the way out. ^Ryan
Looks so easy till you try it 🤠
Take it step by step, and remember you can always refer back to the video or have a chat to your local Mitre 10 team for advice ^Matt
How do we lean the post to 10 degrees?
You lean the post 100mm per 1m 😊 So if your posts were 1500mm you would lean your posts 150mm.
@@mitre10nz thanks, I didn't know it was that simple lol
@@ericcyc1 I'm not from New Zealand so the building code doesn't matter
So many experts in the comments lol why did you look this up if you know already
Maaan he's good.
Pretty slick, right? 😎🔨 ^Billie
The council will never say yes to anything you to do unless you pay them thousands of dollars
The Mitre 10 instructions on PDF and video omit how far apart the post holes should be. Placemakers suggest 1.2 M apart and ITM suggest 1.3 M apart
and I would do 0.9 - 1m
Yankee here. Millimeters make me blood red mad! 🍻
lol yeah imperial sooo much easier....
I millimetre is 6 yankee doodle marzipans.
US good company with Liberia and Myanmar as only fully imperial countries. Change will come.
Don't worry, you'll join the rest of the civilised world one day. ;)
I’m sending this to Trump for review.
Trump 👍🏽
Well he's been right about everything else.
Trump 2024 or bust. 🇺🇸
ma si , un bel getto di cemento direttamente sul legno , cosi in meno di 5 anni marcisce
Bastava riempire le pbuche di sabbia e ciotoli e si otteneva stesso risultato , con un affetto drenante , permettendo al legno di non marcire...
is this expensive
Hey mate, check out the full guide here: www.mitre10.co.nz/guides-and-advice/guide/how-to-build-a-timber-retaining-wall and have a chat to the team in store at your local - they'll be able to help you cost that out.
Need to win the lotto before you can buy cedar in 2022.
Oh yeah.. easy! Hahaha
Did he really just say "easy as" at the end of all this!!
'Easy as'.
It looks nice and all that, but the lumber will rot where it meets the soil. An old neighbor with a big, beautifull garden told me that. I would have used brackets in the concrete with solid screws or bolts so that I could remove the post and put in new ones when they start to rot. The lumber will not rot under ground, it will not rot above ground, but it will rot in the transition between the soil and 'the air'. Eventually it will also rot both under ground and above ground, but that will take much longer time. To protect the concrete you could also have poured it into plastic sewage pipes or something similar with the right dimension.
the lumber is so massive, it will take long over 10 years for them to rot away.
The timber is h4 it has been treated with chemicals so it will not rot.
It took my grandparents 50+ years to rot, ain't no lies
Are you okay Annie?
@@michaelmyers1548Old wood is much better and will hold up much longer . This pressure treated crap won't last worth beans.
Too hard..check this check that....im buying a pot..
Safety barrier, council regulations, engineering, drainage, boundaries, Fk it its too complicated.
Jpgundarun I thought the same thing
Just skip most of them and you will be fine.
Nah its the redbands for me
Can't beat a classic!
@@mitre10nz facts bo!
Why can’t you pronounce the word important?
Won't the rain rots the post at the concret junction ?
