    To help some others decide on this project, I priced it all up, using Mitre 10 NZ. The total was $541 and that does not include all the basic tools he used. If you owned nothing that was used or required in this video, then you would easily be up for $700.

    We just built this today! Great video, made it so easy. Mitre 10 has been sold out of the Firth Ezi Blocks it seems at most locations but we were able to pick them up at Bunnings. One improvement over the design in the video I would recommend is leaving one or two bricks out at ground level to create some air flow, for a hotter fire and less smoke.
    edit: The price about a year about when I made this was closer to $800-$1000 NZD

      @@23wiski We've only really had to remove some of the ashes once with a shovel. It takes a long time to fill up. Rain isn't a problem as long as we use dry wood to start it.

    Mmmm, - are "Firth Easy Wall" retaining wall blocks - manufactured to construct low level retaining walls - fire proof or will they be safe at, possibly, high heat levels & not explode????
    + in Auckland this would probably be deemed an incinerator & illegal???

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  4 года назад +8

      Hi Mate,
      Good question!
      Firth Ezi Wall blocks are made with tiny air pockets throughout the blocks which allows moisture to escape (moisture is what causes explosions when it gets trapped and builds up pressure) so due to the porosity of the blocks there is no explosion hazard.
      You must check with your local council on the regulations for firepits in your local area to make sure that you comply which is highlighted in the video. For Auckland, a great starting place is here: www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/licences-regulations/outdoor-fires/Pages/default.aspx
