That cleat idea is EXCELLENT. Much better than the support board that goes all the way across, which is hard to measure exactly to hold just the ladder frame and not block the door
The Screws or nails should be in the center of the peckers! not inches or mm's away. these things need to be installed TIGHTLY peckered! I love this guy! Also, the actual door thickness plywood has to be accounted for and not flush with the "plaster board" so cross braces attached to the ceiling across the opening won't work, The unit will be too high.
When you cut the bottom you should of moved the steps over so the steps could be pushed back.so the angel they come down at would be the same on the bit needing cutting.then made the mark for cutting.i know it not a lot out that the wood take out the 10 to 20mm cut out.

many thanks, just done this today, but to my delight, the cut I had to make was exactly where the step was 😭 so it still have 5mm gap at top stair joint. only took me 90mins to do and 4 cuts later 😀
Is it just me or should those stairs have been installed the other way around so that you are stepping *into* the ceiling space and away from the roof at the top? The way they are positioned at the moment it looks like you would be stepping *away* from the ceiling space and into the roof at the top of the stairs.
He did it that way because he wanted it facing towards the access to the house, he said this 1 min into the video, If he did it the other was he would have to go around it every time he entered the attic, he also covers placement considerations about 2 min 5 seconds in ;D
Gnuthad haha you are exactly right!! He even said specifically that about the head height choice when he was in the ceiling space making the reference holes.2:09
Hi Silvana, you can find our range of attic stairs and their pricing on our website here: www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/hardware/ladders/attic-ladders/c/RF5139 ^Frank 😊
I would have made all those cuts and layout from up in the attic. no dust in my face or over extending my arms to make measurements. why do it the hard way when the easy way is hard enough?

If the ladder box was right up against one joist wouldn't it automatically be square. Rather than adjust screws and batten both sides.
great vid buddy
