Underground Tech Hi I just want to buy this for someone to mainly to watch Netflix and seldomly use Words to type documents.
Would u recommend it?
I'm glad there's a new model because I have had this thing since Christmas 2015 and it's lost it's luster
Pros:
- Great price.
- Very good for videos, connect the mini-HDMI to your flat screen and you can watch TV from all over the world (I use Dolphin browser for the flash support).
- It has two USB ports: a micro-USB to use as a secondary charger, and a full-size USB for a mouse or keyboard or just transfer files to the PC.
- It takes a micro SD up to 32 GB. That is plenty, giving it 64 GB which, for Android, is a lot of space.
- Easy to root. You do it and you basically got a Linux computer, capable of running samba, shutdown, minidlna, etc. smoothly.
- If you're the power-user type, you'll get a lot out of this tablet.
- Also, it's great for reading books.
- Battery life, I can use it to watch videos for over four hours before it dies.
Cons:
- No magnetic sensors, so no compass, no star maps, etc.
- No GPS, so you better are good at reading maps.
- It's at best ok for games.
- Docking/undocking interferes with programs.
- Headset when unplugged may fail to reconnect speaker, you may need to go through a few connect/disconnect cycles until the speaker comes back to life.
- When battery goes all the way to zero, it may freeze the tablet. It will look dead until you charge it all the way back to 100%, but won't give you any clue it's charging or alive. Some people have assumed the tablet died on them, when in fact it just needed a full re-charge.
- Touchpad gets in the way of typing, and the keyboard can lag behind if you're a fast typist.

+TRONICVISION I use an app named "Network Browsing" by Brandon Stecklein. It integrates with the "Helios File Manager," so you can copy/move files from your tablet to any computers in your network. Tried many others, but it's the only one that seems to work perfectly with this RCA tablet.
To access the tablet from the computers, you need "Web Server Ultimate" by Ice Cold Apps. It creates a web server from your tablet, that you can access from Windows/Mac/Linux easily. For Windows, assign a port under 9999 to have fewer problems (you'll get what I mean when configuring; don't forget to set /storage/emulated/0 as the root for the web server).
Finally, remember you cannot integrate a tablet into a Windows Network until you have a samba server running, but to do that you need to root the tablet. The three utilities given above will do a good job until you decide to root the tablet, which in turn causes trouble with some other apps. I don't recommend rooting unless you're truly familiar with Linux/Android.

+Underground Tech Hello again Underground Tech. got my tablet today and stuff works OK. The only problem I see is that this Tablet won't communicate with my computer thru USB. Can't load/download files from USB. I searched net wise and RCA but found on solutions. There is a windows version of this tablet which I'm sure would sync with a computer, but they are alittle pricy. Buddy, if you hear of any solutions for the Viking Pro, please let me know. Great review! I'm actually planning to buy this tablet, it seems likes a great device.
Your review of this product was much, much better than the last review I watched. The poor guy was stumbling all over himself and couldn't even describe anything well, whether it was a good remark or a bad remark. I actually felt bad for him, so I wrote up a quick, half-assed sound description in the comments in case anyone had the misfortune of stumbling on his video like I did, and was actually curious about the product. I thought I'd share my opinions about it here as well.
For those that are curious about the sound quality, here are my personal thoughts:
Both the speaker volume output and the speaker sound quality are exceptionally poor in my opinion. There is one speaker on the opposite side of the screen. So along with the sound pointing away from the user, music that's mixed in stereo, listened to through the lone speaker, sounds almost swampy and muddy from both channels being smashed together. Conversely, the headphone volume output and the sound quality are okay depending on what type and brand of headphones you use. Naturally, the better the quality of headphones, the better the sound quality and volume output will be. Lows, mids, and highs are fairly and equally represented via headphones. The headphone volume output hovers between tolerable and okay, depending on the headphones used.With that said though, what it lacks in speaker and sound points, it makes up for in numerous other areas. Overall, and especially when compared to the economical price, the quantity of features, the processing speed, and its multi-usefulness should far surpass any low expectations or worries associated with a >$100.00 device. Please feel free to rebut or ask any questions.

Does the keyboard work for games or are you stuck with your typical touch screen controls? And despite the minor stuttering, how intensive can the games be when played before it becomes a problem? Hopefully it's not much of an issue at all.

Works great! Extremely durable. One of the top tablets for under 90$ the settings and adjustments you can make to run at optimized is simple. 8/10 star's for me .
Do you know if it charges while it's in use (while plugged in)?. I have a rca 7 inch and the charge icon shows but it continues deplete.

Hey Underground Tech, recently i acquired an Viking Pro for myself. Now, it's a nice tablet and it runs well, but there i one minor problem. Everytime i try to do a firmware update for it, it downloads, but then goes to a screen saying "Update Aborted" do you have any idea why this is and if so, how can i fix this issue?

I bought mine at about (less than) two years ago. And I find it most helpful. When the main computer crashes and needs repair/maintenance, an alternative becomes important. The computer is not a luxury item; it is now a needed fixture like a TV or the bathroom sink. One has to keep connected to email, banking, bill paying, etc. These are things we now do on the PC that we used to do by mail or personal visit. I don't think it would be possible to write a term paper on it, but in a pinch it could be done, albeit with a certain discomfort. I don't think Google Docs is nearly as flexible as Microsoft Word, using a foreign language, for example. But it works great for RUclips, even if auxiliary speaker is needed. And I Chrome cast my RUclips videos to my TV. And there really is NO excuse for the speaker; if HPStream 13" can make a decent audible speaker, so can any other company make a decent audible speaker. i don't play games on mine, so I cannot speak to that.

My mom got me one and it should be here tomorrow, I use my tablet mostly for games and watching youtube or netflix so I think this will be perfect for me. The keyboard wasn't a big thing for me but I thought it was worth it for the price, thank you for this video it helped me get an idea of what I'm gonna be getting.

If the keyboard is something you're not planning on using then I would've recommended the Viking II because it's near the same price and performs better in games. This tablet was enjoyable to watch videos and play simple games so i think it should be good enough for that.
Bought this for my son, but I cant seem to use the USB port that connects to an external drive so he can watch movies. I already reviewed their manual and on RCA youtube tutorial and there is no "file explorer" only file manager (this still does not work), it also says that you could access this through the Gallery, and nope. Every time I connect the USB it says its blank and if I want to format it. I just want the kids to watch some movies. Any advice?

Well I do have the same RCA Viking Pro Table and Laptop 2 in 1 which was over $100 dollars. Which it is good.
Can't get mine to connect to my TV which is one of the main reasons I bought it for the HDMI connection. I connect , turn my non-smart TV to HDMI - it says " Retrieving data " then goes black . I tried powering everything on and off - I have zero problem watching youtube on the tablet but it won't cast to the tv - any ideas ? I KNOW it is something minor : (
i just bought this and the screen is very dark. I have brightness turned all he way up & fully charged battery. It looks like it's on save battery mode but it isn't. Am I missing something or is it a defective tablet?

Hey, does the speaker work better w/ headphones or earbuds? I know I've had laptops that have crap speakers, but work well with my earbuds. Well, the Camera is horrible, but screen recorder apps work well, ESPECIALLY DU RECORDER
Dropped mine a week into ownership and though it survived the top left corner button popped off. I've got 2 things to hook the key back on, but have no idea how to do it or how to even try! I don't know what the u-turn button does anyway, so guess I'll leave it off and if it's ever needed then I'll push on the remaining button. Still bites me that it happened, but better that I did it myself and not any other way.

Has anyone used Flashdrives with the unit? I read on Amazon reviews that RCA has failed to remark against the "stagefright" HACK, how to disable HANGOUTS and/or remove same via "rooting", which is where the hack occurs. Has anyone experienced this?
